Disclaimer: I don't own Fruits Basket, but I do own Izumi Honda.
Authoress Note: I kind of got into Fruits Basket once again and decided to write this story out. I thought that it would be something fun to write and something a bit different than what I had been writing before to break up my writing schedule a little bit to put a little bit of Manga stories in here since it was one of the reasons long ago that I enjoyed writing. Without further ado, I hope you like this book Sparkle which is the whole Fruits Basket series in one book. Without further ado Chapter 1.
Chapter 1
"Tohru we're going to be late for school if we don't hurry up." A short-haired teen poked their head into the tent, their black bangs falling into their eyes.
Tohru slowly came out of the tent gripping onto her bag. "Sorry, Izumi." She said, offering her older sister a small smile. "Whoa… Looks like we're in for another hot day."
Izumi ran her hand through her hair pushing it back from her face to keep it from sticking to the sweat that was slowly beading on her forehead. "You're not forgetting anything?" She questioned looking at her younger sister.
Tohru looked at her bag to make sure that she had everything. "Nope." She said, offering her sister a cheerful smile. She looked back at the tent. "Well, Mom, hold down the fort while we're gone." She said looking at the photo of their mom.
Izumi took a sharp breath knowing that this past year had been tough on the two of them after losing their mom in an accident and nothing was quite the same since they had lived with their grandpa up until the point of renovations that needed to be done. "Tohru are you sure that we should be doing it this way living in a tent?"
"Hana-chan and Arisa-chan are busy, Izumi-nii. Arisa-chan has a small apartment with no room for us. And Hana-chan has a large family… we couldn't bother them."
Izumi let out a soft breath.
"I thought you were alright with this O nēchan."
"I'm fine with it, but I feel bad that we haven't let anyone know about this." Izumi said as she slung her bag over her shoulder. Izumi wore the boy school uniform compared to what her younger twin wore. She had special permission from the principal to wear the boys' uniform, the only problem was with her name she was often mistaken for a boy in the school. Which honestly she didn't mind.
The two girls began their walk towards the direction of the school.
"I know you feel bad, but we can do this."
"I know we can, Imōto. I just feel bad that Arisa and Hana don't know about us being out here… I know they wouldn't be too pleased with the whole idea."
"Look, O nēchan," Tohru said, pointing out into the distance.
Izumi looked to where Tohru was pointing to a house that was in the middle of nowhere. "Huh… odd. I didn't think there were any homes in this area."
Tohru began to walk towards the house.
"Tohru we can't go on trespassing on someone's land," Izumi said quickly following her younger sister knowing that this probably wasn't a good idea. She followed her sister to the porch only to see her sister stop to look at little knickknacks that were the Chinese Zodiac. "We really shouldn't be here." She said, grasping her sister's arm. "We've never been late for school and I'm not about to be put down as late. I wouldn't hear the end of it." She thought to herself as she sweat dropped knowing that there would be a few people who would be rather upset with her
"This is something you don't see every day." A man's voice spoke out causing the twin siblings to look up.
Tohru's cheeks flushed in embarrassment. "Hello." She said, bowing her head, her face flushing even more.
"We apologize." Izumi said, lowering her head.
"Look all you like." The man said, offering them a small smile. "They're drying in the sun. I doubt they'd interest two teenagers such as yourselves."
Tohru looked up at him shyly. "On the contrary. Your Chinese Zodiac paperweights are adorable."
"My sister has a point." Izumi said with a small smile. "They are rather cute."
The man smiled at the two of them. "I agree with you there. I'm fond of them myself."
Tohru looked down sadly at the paperweights. "But just as I thought, there's no cat…"
"Cat? Oh do you mean the cat from the old zodiac story?"
"Yes, our mom told us that often to us."
"My sister has wanted to be year of the cat for years ever since hearing the story." Izumi said as she crossed her arms looking over at her younger sister with a small smile. She had to admit when Tohru was young it was something that she adored in her younger sibling. It was something that the two of them could remember fondly of their mother.
"Huh. I wonder what his reaction would be." The man mused softly.
Izumi blinked a few times. "Say what now?"
"Excuse me?" Tohru asked rather confusedly of the whole thing that the man had said.
"So you both are the year of the dog, then? Do you also sense some kind of bond between us? See I'm a dog…"
A loud thump was heard and the man slumped forward holding onto his head.
"Do you really have to ogle the poor girl in front of her brother?" A familiar voice rang out.
Izumi looked up seeing it was none other than Yuki Sohma, the prince of their school. Her brow raised slightly as the other man slowly got his bearings back.
"That hurt! Do you have a dictionary or something in that bag?" The man questioned as he rubbed the spot where he had been hit.
"Yeah two of them." Yuki replied before turning his attention to the two girls standing there. "Are you okay Honda-san? My cousin didn't harass you or anything?"
Tohru bowed her head in greeting. "Sohma-kun good morning."
Yuki smiled a small smile at Tohru and then looked at Izumi. "Good morning. Good morning Honda-san."
Izumi offered Yuki a small smile. "Good morning Sohma-kun."
Yuki's cousin let out a breath looking at Yuki with a solemn look on his face. "Don't talk about me like I'm some pervert. I'm Shigure Sohma, Yuki-kun's cousin."
"Nice to meet you. I'm Tohru Honda."
"And I'm Izumi Honda."
"What are you doing here?" Yuki looked at the two girls.
Tohru's face flushed. "Ah… our house is nearby."
"Nearby? Huh…"
Izumi looked over at the cousin with her brow raised. She looked over at her sister. "We should get going before we're late. I wouldn't hear the end of it if I'm late."
Tohru looked at her sister with wide eyes. "Oh my gosh, that's right… You need to be on time for…"
"Student council duties. That's right." Izumi said with a small nod of her head knowing that Tohru never liked making her late for these things. Especially with all the trouble that she could get into with the student council president who was a thorn in Izumi's side ever since she had joined earlier that year. But it gave her something to do while at school besides the countless school work and the job that she had outside of school.
"Since you're both here, why don't we walk to school together? " Yuki questioned, offering them both a small smile.
Tohru's cheeks flushed. "Oh, you don't have to."
Yuki smiled at both of them.
"Tohru… we're going the same way… I don't see a problem for Sohma-kun to walk with us." Izumi said, running her hand through her black hair and offering her sister a small smile.
"Okay, Zumi-chan," Tohru said, walking alongside her older sister.
"Besides… It's a nice day to walk with others." Izumi said with a small smile as they walked down the path to head to the main street that would lead them toward the school.
FRUITS BASKET
Izumi was on her way towards class when she heard a commotion about Torhu walking with Yuki by one of the fangirls that adored the prince. She saw Arisa hugging Tohru tightly to her chest.
"Thanks for the assist." Tohru said rather muffled by the hug that she was getting from Arisa.
"That was a close one. Don't really send out your vibes, Hanajima." Arisa said, looking over her shoulder at the dark haired girl.
Izumi walked up to them. "I take it Sohma-kun's fan club was all over Tohru again?" Izumi said, letting out a soft breath and crossing her arms.
"Izumi," Arisa said with a small smile. "I knew you would have been here if you didn't have student council duties."
Izumi nodded her head slowly. "Yeah, sorry Tohru that I couldn't help. What were they even going on about this time?" Izumi said, letting out a soft huff and crossing her arms.
"About Sohma-kun walking with us today," Tohru said softly, looking up at her sister.
Izumi let out a breath and shook her head. "Of course… they seem to do that with every girl here that tries to get close to him."
"They're also part of your little fan group, Izumi," Hanajima said, looking over at the short-haired girl.
Izumi groaned, rubbing the palms of her hands against her eyes. "Not like I asked them to be a fan club for me."
"You really should tell them that you're a girl… but the boy uniform certainly hides everything." Arisa mused with a smile. "The whole fan club would break down if they truly found out you're a girl."
Izumi shrugged her shoulders. "I don't see why gender has something to do with what type of uniform you wear."
"Well, you did get permission from the principal. I'm surprised he even allowed it." Hanajima said as she walked with the three other girls towards class.
"Told him it would help keep my grades up," Izumi said with a shrug of her shoulders. "Plus my short hair and being a bit you know." She said gesturing towards her uniform top. "It's easy to mistake me for a guy. Not like I mind it."
FRUITS BASKET
"I sense strange waves coming from him." Hanajima said as she held a knife that she was using to cut up some vegetables.
Izumi looked up from her work as she helped Tohru with cooking the meal that they were learning to make.
"There it is. Hanajima's info waves." Arisa said, looking over at Hanajima.
"What do you mean strange?" Tohru questioned, rather confused.
"I'm not really sure." Hanajima said simply.
"But he is kind of a man of mystery. I hear he never talks about himself. Recently this second year girl confessed her feelings to him and then she goes to hug him and he shoves her away scaring the crap out of her." Arisa said, running her hand through her blonde hair.
Tohru looked rather surprised by the whole thing. "I… I didn't know that. I wonder why he did it."
Izumi thought about it for a moment as she put more food onto a plate deep in thought. She had heard stories of Yuki and how he avoided being hugged. She didn't fully understand why someone wouldn't want to be hugged unless he didn't like people touching him, which was more plausible than what Arisa and Hanajima were thinking.
"Like I said, he's strange." Hanajima said as she grabbed the rice spatula to get the rice out of the rice cooker.
"Well, that makes girls even more interested in him." Arisa said with a simple shrug of her shoulders.
"You three! Can the chatter and get to work!" The teacher snapped looking at the three girls and Izumi.
Izumi let out a soft breath. Of course it always ended up this way. Tohru, Arisa, and Hanajima always got caught talking while she just listened in on everything.
Arisa looked up at the teacher. "We already finished."
"Don't give me attitude. I know both Honda-san and her brother made the whole thing."
"The rice is ready too." Hanajima said as she began to fill the bowls with rice.
Arisa looked at both Honda siblings. "Oh yeah. Hanajima and I are going shopping after school. Are you working again today?"
"Yes." Tohru said with a small smile.
"Same." Izumi said looking over at Arisa knowing that both girls probably missed them shopping together as a group.
"Man you two… you got it rough promising to pay your own tuition. But I doubt the two of you need to work everyday."
Tohru thought about it for a moment before replying. "But Izumi and I both decided that we want to live on our own after graduation. So we better start saving now."
Arisa tried to wipe the tears that formed in her eyes. "Dammit, you're making me cry. Dig in the both of you. Build up your strength."
Tohru looked up at her friend. "Okay…"
Izumi let out a soft chuckle, shaking her head lightly as she picked up the rice bowl that Hanajima put before her.
"You both are still staying at your grandfather's place right." Arisa questioned Tohru and Izumi over with a careful eye.
Tohru's heart went fast in her chest as she reached for the rice bowl. "Yes." She quickly answered knowing sooner or later that Izumi would let the so-called cat out of the bag ratting out on them that they weren't living with their grandfather.
"Is he feeding you properly? He better not be cheating you out of the money you both are earning."
"Arisa-chan…" Izumi said, looking at her friend with a pointed look. "Grandfather isn't like that." She put her chopsticks down in thought. She knew that their grandfather would pay for their tuition if the two of them hadn't decided to make it easier on the old man by paying their own schooling to make sure that they were able to get a good education.
Arisa let out a breath running her hand through her hair. "I know, I just worry about the two of you."
Izumi swallowed the lump in her throat. "When we have a free day, the four of us can go shopping."

This is the end of Chapter 1. I hope that this chapter turned out well. I split the first chapter in half because it was way too long. I hate having long chapters that seem to go on forever. Please leave a review and let me know what you think of this chapter. Reviews will help me keep going with this story. I have a long way to go with this story, I know that and it'll be interesting on how Yuki and Izumi's relationship grows. I can't wait to show you guys what happens next. Until next time.
