Not many people know that the connection between Greece and the supernatural world was different from what some of the myths suggested. Two thousand years ago when life had to make some concession to her brother death due to her servants' action in his domain twice within a few hours of each other. To understand the concessions death would get over the body of a ten-year-old girl who would become his only servant with prize gifts from his sister life or as her servants called her mother nature. One would have to go back to the past year as the young ten-year-old witch used her gift of sight to try and warn the clans around her to not go through with their plans to engagement and even warning her half sister to stay away from the young warlock, but none listened. The girl was named Kassandra and she even tried to warn the witch afterwards to not go through with her plans for revenge because the aftermath would not be what she wanted and would cost her greatly, only to have the witch steal her to the mountains outside the village and use her to fuel her expression circle to create the other side and curse the ten-year-olds halfsibling as the anchor to hold it in place before leaving her body to continue her plans with no one else able to warn the clans of what punishments would await them for helping her in her revenge scheme against Silas and Amara.
Life and her brother death stood before the young soul as the concessions were made and a deal struck that would allow the young girl to be rewarded by mother nature before she was given to her brother to become his one and only servant she would not be a witch since she would no longer belong to life but she would keep her seer abilities for her service and eventually would be gifted her soulmate for completing a few more tasks before becoming Death's oracle. Kassandra agreed to the missions knowing she would only live a few more years from her original visions knowing her job was to be the oracle for life and warn the clans what the consequences for their actions were.
Kassandra's eyes flew open as she scrambled to her feet, trying to recalibrate. She remembered being in so much pain that she passed out. She was scared, but she also recalled hearing two soothing voices and the deals that were made in front of her. Her vision blurred as she saw a group chanting and the clans screaming as they received their punishments. Coming back to herself she began walking away from the circle she was left in and headed down to the village. She gave her warnings to the clans but was once again ignored and threatened to be killed if she mentioned her visions again being called a false prophet.
After the death threats she left and headed a few villages over where she came upon a temple and watched as a young woman stood in front of the alter. The longer she watched, the more she felt the need to enter it. Deciding to do so, she stepped in and the feeling that overcame her was amazing. She hadn't felt so safe in a long while and allowed herself to sink to the floor. Hearing the something behind her, the woman at the alter turned around in surprise. She thought that was alone. Her eyes came upon the person and was shocked to see a Kassandra. She quickly rushed over and picked up Kassandra who had collapsed from dehydration, carrying her deeper into the temple, wondering what had happened to her. An older woman who was also in the temple, gathered her supplies to help care for the injured girl.
pThe women bathed her, and after making sure that all her injuries were taken care of, they gave her something to eat. They tried to ask Kassandra some questions, but she remained silent, refusing to speak, as she was distracted with visions swimming in her view now that she was somewhere safe and people would listen to her warnings.
Once the women were satisfied that Kassandra was fed and healthy they took her to a small room for her to sleep in that night, promising that in the morning if she wished to stay, she could. Though she still hadn't spoken to them. They seemed like nice people and as she drifted off to sleep, she couldn't help but hope that she had finally found a place to call her home. That night, she dreamed that she was in a field that seemed never ending. As she looked around, she heard the soothing voice as it greeted her again and more explanations were given. Life explained that since Qetsiyah had interfered with her brother's domain her brother was owed a concession so he asked to be allowed to have a race under his domain though it would be a while for them to come into fruition, Life had agreed. Life could see that his creations would help with keeping the human population under control in the future. Life explained that Kassandra had earned her brother's death respect for trying to stop the witch from interfering in his domain even if it resulted in her death before her time. Life then explained she had bargained with her brother for her return to life to finish the work she needed to do, being one of the few true seers who lived with that gift, who did not abuse it. Her brother agreed only if she would be his only seer and servant when she finished her work for life who had agreed which is why she was brought back.
When Kassandra woke up in the morning, she knew that she would remain in this city for her remaining years but did not wish to have the attention her work for Life would bring to her. Before she got up for the day, she took a moment to think and decided that she would have someone else be her face to the population. As she thought this her eyes once again turned green, and she saw the older woman that helped her being her face and voice to the people that came for help.
With a small smile she set out to do what was asked of her. When she greeted the women in the temple, they asked for her name. Deciding she would be dead to her clan and start a new she named herself Dafni and that is the name she gave them before coming to know she was in the city of Delphi. From then on, she worked hard every day, gaining the trust easily given by the women of the temple. She became close to the older woman that would be her voice, and learned that her name was Dasha, meaning gift from God. The newly named Dafni found it ironic, and after telling the older woman so, she went on to explain the gift that was given to her and told of her wish for the woman to be her face and voice. Dasha could tell that the child was speaking the truth and agreed to her wish.
Dafni knew that a group would come to her at for help at some point, so she and Dasha planned what it is that they would need to do. A year had passed before she saw the group from her vision enter the temple. Dafni sat behind Dasha with her face covered, and as the group described their troubles, she whispered the answers that would help them succeed, Dasha in turn relaying the answers to them as though they came from her. When the group left, word spread of an older woman who could have visions of the future and was correct in what was needed to be done. Years passed with people coming from all over to speak to the Oracle of Delphi, a woman who was a gift from their gods.
Dasha was the oracle of Delphi for many years, with Dafni remaining the woman behind the visions. When she was of age, a marriage was arranged with a wealthy young man named Bemus. Though they were married, and they shared children, they never fell in love, only becoming close friends. As Dafni looked at her children, she knew that each female from her bloodline would receive a small talent, until she was eventually reincarnated. Centuries came and went with the family growing larger and larger with the females from every generation carrying a clairvoyant trait that they used to help their family whenever they could. Eventually, a descendant of Dafni married a man named Charles Swan and they had a son. Unfortunately, Charles passed on just after his son's first birthday. Having been named after his father, the boy was called Charlie. The family had settled in Washington state and would soon mix with a family from Mystic Falls when a young woman who was traveling the country fell into a quick romance with Charlie and they married to not have the child outside of marriage. They had a little girl who was named Isabella Kore Swan-Salvatore, her first name honored Renee's grandmother and her middle followed the Swan's Greek naming traditions it was one of the few compromises involving Bella Renee choose to follow through with and didn't just do what she wanted anyway.
It only took two years for Renee to decide she didn't like the small town anymore than her own hometown and she also did not like being tied down in marriage. To make sure she got her way in the divorce she waited until Charlie was at work and left with the then two-year-old Bella and headed to her brothers to get out of her marriage. In doing so she got her way in the divorce the only other goal she had other than no longer being tied down in marriage was to make Charlie as miserable as she could by using Bella to do it. Renee had noticed the weird happening around her daughter when she turned five and the night terrors started or the random comments, she made that would come true. Renee, in her bid to get away from the supernatural aspect of her family, decided that ignoring it and in turn neglecting her daughter was the way to go. Renee eventually learned to ignore the comments even the teachers made about her child's oddness, which she took with a grain of salt anyways since they usually moved on in a month or two.
At the age of twelve Bella was a bag of walking contradictions and labeled an outcast often by people her own age. She had tried to emulate her mothers outgoing personality and it would work at first but one weird comment about things she sees or something she mentions off hand coming true even though she didn't remember saying it had her on the outs with friends quickly. Over hearing one too many times that her mother should have been sent to a mental facility with a nightmare of what would occur if she was sent had Bella withdrawing into herself. Bella learned to write what she saw down and stopped speaking it out loud except for when she was very tired from a bad night of vision dreams. Bella had also taken to reading every chance she got so she was always reading instead of interacting with others, so it did not improve her social skills much. Charlie noticed the behavior over one of the few visits he had with her, and he called Renee's brother Zack to get an opinion on what was going on with Bella and if he would have to retry for custody.
Zack Salvatore was one of the few who knew his older sister's behaviors well and realized something supernatural had to be going on with Bella for Renee to be reacting the way she was so he convinced her to visit sighting it being years since she had in fact been home and she could catch up with some of her friends with him being a free babysitter. Day three into there visit and Zack had seen enough interaction between mother and daughter and the comments Renee was making about listening to her friends and wanting to get Greyson Gilberts opinion had him calling the uncles that Renee liked to pretend didn't exist for help. He confirmed it was the right thing to do when shortly after instead of hiding in the library and only writing down her comments Bella had started sitting near him and mentioning a raven being present soon when Renee wasn't within ear shot. He also noticed she was spending a lot more time outside on one of the benches and looked like she was waiting for someone to arrive even if she didn't know it. Bella was just listening to her visions they had never led her astray before.
As Bella followed one of her urges and headed out the backdoor of the boarding house to the back garden as she came to a bench, she noticed a raven sitting on the branch of the tree. Sitting down she stared the animal down wondering what other secrets her visions were leading her too now. After a few minutes the raven gilded to the ground in front of her a fog rolled in and in a matter of minutes instead of a raven in front of her, there was a male with raven colored hair and icy blue eyes kneeling on the ground and as their eyes meet, he smirked in greeting. Bella came to know him as Damon and though technically he was her many times great uncle they went with cousin to anyone who asked. Over the next week Damon made significant changes to Bella's life for her protection. Renee was compelled to never think or act on Bella being given to doctor's and to ignore anything supernatural about her daughter. When Renee got the urge to travel again after a few more days Damon followed them to Arizona where more compulsions were placed on Renee which reigned in her flight reflex to staying with in the city allowing for Bella chance to settle.
Over the years Damon who had grown up under his Italian grandmother who taught him his true family history about their witch background though they had not had a witch in their family in years Damon knew what signs to look for. Damon spent the next two years helping Bella figure out exactly what her gifts were and their limits and how to keep her gifts from drawing attention to her since she could not defend herself like witches with her gift could since she was not a witch and not a servant of nature which made them witches in the first place. They learned together that she was what they were calling a seer since it summarized everything she could "see" nicely. She had visions for lack of better description of the past, present and future though she did not have the memory of a vampire to remember every detail of the visions she received. She also seemed to be able to see if someone was not human and when it came to the few werewolves, she pointed out to Damon even tell when a vampire had their switch on like or off like in Damon's case. She also was able to see if a witch had done something to someone if the curse or spell was on the person though she didn't necessarily know what it did. They both thought the gifts would get stronger as she got older though neither one voiced their thoughts to each other.
Over the next few years Damon would pop in on and off to check on the compulsions and had easily become Bella's best friend. Being a bibliophile himself he encouraged her book obsession and Bella now had a small library of her own and was obsessed with learning languages so she would not need translations to read certain books. She knew Italian and Greek thanks to her father who used it to connect with her over the phone since Renee was back to trying to keep them apart having figured out, he was the reason Zack had reached out in the first place. When Bella reached the age of seventeen, she had started to remember bits and pieces of her first life which encouraged her obsession with languages wanting to learn the dead ones she remembered speaking and wanting to know her family history on her father's side. It took Renee remarrying and Damon using compulsion on her and her new husband for Bella to be allowed to spend her last two years of high school with her father in forks.
