So. Dying wasn't fun, like at all. Especially when it wasn't quick, but that's what happens when you get the big 'C'. It's a slow, painful, and unrelenting death. It kills without remorse, and it doesn't discriminate. So imagine my surprise, when I wake up again...only this time in a completely white room. As I blink my eyes several times, to try and get rid of the haziness and adjust them to the light, I notice the room is littered with medical equipment that looked so...alien to me. Shaking my head, I tried sitting up but found that there was a weight on my chest. When I took a quick look at what it could be, I saw a young short haired redhead sleeping soundly upon me. That's when my hands snapped to my head, and a short sharp pain erupted from my skull. As memories shot through my mind, of what my former life had been. From reading stories people had created, to playing the games of my favourite franchise. Mass Effect. Then memories of the body that I was now inhabiting shot through my mind, from who this young girl sleeping on me was...to just where I was, and my face paled at that thought. I was in Mass Effect, and the girl sleeping on my chest was Jane Shepard. Yes, THAT Jane Shepard. Oh, and she was my TWIN SISTER. What the fuck was going on?!

"J-Jane, can you get off of me...please?" Hearing my voice for the first time unnerved me, it was so...innocent and childlike. Mainly because I was a child, 10 years old to be precise. Jane slowly began stirring...but only after I started nudging her with my hands, when she saw I was awake she snapped to her feet, before lunging herself at me. Wrapping her arms around me, as she quietly began sobbing. "I'mSorryI'mSorryI'mSorry..." Was all she kept repeating to me, over and over again. Then another person entered the room, and this person, had an air of authority and respect about her...and the same red hair as Jane. "Mother." Was all I muttered, before Jane quickly let me go, and stepped back from the bed. Our Mother gave a long, scolding look. Before turning her attention back to me. "I assume Jane has apologised for almost killing you, but then again. Judging by the look on your face, you don't remember what happened. Probably for the best." That's when for the first time, I placed my hands upon my body...and could feel the stitches across my chest through my bandages. Then one of my hands reached up to my head, and felt the bandages on my head. Must've smacked my head at some point, which would explain the lack of memory from what happened.

"Don't try to remember anything John, just be thankful you're alive. As for you young lady, you'll confined to your room for the remainder of this trip. Once we touch down at my next posting, then you'll be confined to your room there, until I say otherwise. Is that clear Jane?" My sister looked away, before giving a simple nod of her head, in acknowledgement of our Mothers words. "Good. Now, as for you John...you'll be confined to your room once you've been cleared from the med bay by Doctor Chakwas. This is as much your fault, as it is your sisters. You two, shouldn't have been fucking around in the cargo hold the way you were. Once we arrive, you'll be free to explore the settlement." A low audible chuckle emanated from the doorway, as a much younger looking Doctor Chakwas entered the room. By younger I mean, she was smoking hot kinda young...sucks being older than this body. But it is what it is. "I think what your Mother is trying to say you two, is that you scared the crap out of her, and that she never wants to think about the fact, that she very nearly had to bury her child." That caused silence to fall upon the room, before I decided to speak up finally. Seemingly having found my voice. "S-sorry Mom, and sorry Karin. We won't do it again, I promise." Jane looked at John, her eyes slowly beginning to fill with liquid. Before she quickly rubbed her eyes, and looked at him with those piercing eyes, that she would become famous for. "Yeah. What John said, we've learnt our lesson, and we won't do it again."

With that Hannah simply nodded her head, and exited the room, followed by Jane and Doctor Chakwas. Leaving me alone to my thoughts, and boy oh boy...my thoughts were running wild. Judging by our ages, we were about 20 years away from the start of the original Mass Effect game. Which means, we had time. Time to properly prepare for what was to come, but for right now...I needed to get better. Get stronger, faster, be an expert marksman and find out what my abilities were. Was I a simple soldier, a techie maybe even a biotic? Only time will tell, and right now time is what I had. So for now I trained, and began to work out how best to prepare the Galaxy for the battle that was to come. "The Reapers, ain't gonna what hit them." I squeezed my hands tightly together, just thinking about what those machines did. I would be damned, if I let that happen in my new home. "What's a Reaper?" My head snapped up, and looked across at the doorway, where my sister stood. Arms folded across her chest...well shit.
