Chapter 1 Winds Orphanage,
Dumbledore stared down at the potter twins in his arms: Harry and Holly. He was standing outside of number 4 Privet drive. He knew it was cruel to do, but he would have to separate them. One of the reasons was that it was unfair on the Dursleys to force them to care for both siblings.
But the other was due to the events of the previous night, Harry had defeated Tom. And he was known as the boy who lived. Tom would return one day, and when he did there was no doubt that killing Harry would be one of the first things he would want to do.
Holly, on the other hand, was not included in the prophecy, nor did she play a role in defeating Tom, so she was at less risk then her brother. And by making them live separately, they would not grow as close as they would have, making her less of a target for Tom and his followers.
He slowly walked forward and placed Harry on the Dursleys' doorstep, and placed a letter in his blanket that would explain why Harry was being left with them and that his twin would be living in another place. Dumbledore took one last look at the muggle household before glancing at the child in his arms and apparating away.

It was around noon the next day when Dumbledore found a suitable home for Holly. The small village was built around a castle called Hedingham which was where the village's name came from. It was not too far from London and was around an hour and a half drive in one of the muggle automobiles. He took a quick look around the village and was satisfied with what he saw. The community seemed kind and welcoming with everyone seemingly knowing each other. There was a Primary school that would enable Holly to easily get a good education. And just on the outskirts of the village was his destination.
He waited until night time until he made his approach, he walked down the roadside and passed a sign that read Winds Orphanage. He had not been able to see what the place was like for himself, but from what the locals had to say about the place, it seemed like the perfect home for Holly.
He set the child down on the doorstep, placing a warming charm on the girl due to the biting cold of the evening wind. He placed a letter in her blanket just like he did Harry's. It said the basics of the situation. Satisfied with his work, Dumbledore popped a lemon drop into his mouth and left the village. Never releasing the mistake he made.

Amelia Evelin the matron of Winds Orphanage heard a knock on the door right before she was going to go to bed. With a huff she put on her dressing gown and made her way to the front door. Muttering curses under her breath she fumbled with the lock and opened the door only to find no one there. She poked her head out of the doorway and looked around, not finding anyone who could have knocked on the door.
With a scowl growing on her face, she went to close the door but froze as she looked down at the doorstep. A baby with red hair was laid in a bundle of blankets on the doorstep. The scowl on her face deepened as she saw that there was a letter. She hated it when this happened, parents abandoning their children without a word to her or anyone else. She resigned herself to the fact she would be getting little sleep tonight and took the baby in.
She placed the sleeping baby in her lap as she took a seat in an armchair and picked up the letter. She frowned at it. The letter was made out of parchment and not its more common counterpart paper. She turned it over and saw a wax seal on the back. It didn't have a crest on it, but it was still odd. She broke the wax seal and began to read the letter.
Dear Miss Evelin,
I apologise for leaving this child in your care so unexpectedly, but she had nowhere else to go. Her name is Holly Lily Potter and her parents have tragically passed away. She has no family able or willing to take her so I thought this place would be the most suitable.
Before their deaths, Holly's parents signed her up for a boarding school she is to attend after she finishes primary school. She will receive a member of staff will arrive on her eleventh birthday which is the 31st of July to talk about the school and her place in it.
Miss Evelin turned the letter over but it was blank. Why would they not leave their name? She glared down at the paper, and it soon turned to the girl who was still sound asleep. She could already tell she was going to be in trouble.

Holly hated it at Winds orphanage. She was 8 years old and had lived at the orphanage as long as she could remember. She enjoyed reading and tended not to try to make friends with the other children at the orphanage. Or well, most of the children tended to avoid her. She knew why. She was different. Different from the other children. Sometimes odd things would happen around her,and that made the children scared of her, spreading rumours about her. She could make things float, or make things burn. Once because another child called Wilson Bensworth had ripped her favourite book, the window next to them had cracked. Her fingers traced the scar encompassing her right cheek, one of the older children had seen her do that one and had pinned her down and burned her with a candle. It was the only time she could remember Miss Everlin showing concern towards her, she even helped Holly style her hair to conceal the scar. But she guessed that she also didn't want to make a bad impression on the other villagers.
Miss Evelin, or Evil Evelin as she internally called her would always call her brother the worship leader for the local church to do an exorcism on her whenever something odd happened around her which resulted in her being locked in the basement of the orphanage for days on end with barley a morsel of food and the man coming down every hour to 'exorcise' demons from her. Which translated to being strapped down to a table and being subject to Mr Evelin screaming at her demanding a 'demon' to leave her body. When she came out Miss Evelin made sure to give her the worst chores for the rest of the week and punished her with a belt if there was even the slightest flaw in her work. But there was one thing she could do that no one knew about and it gave her the only friend she's ever had.
Holly ran across the field rushing to their meeting place. She came to a stop at the base of a tree on the edge of a field. She sat at the base of the tree and with a grin she whispered, " I'm here." she waited a moment before she saw movement out of the corner of her eye. A grey snake with black markings emerged from a hole in the base of the tree, "Hello mistress. You are late." Holly Frowned down at her companion, " Sorry Zmeya Miss Evelin held me back to do some cleaning." She could speak to snakes. Holly had figured it out when she sat at this very tree after some of the children had stolen a book that she had been reading. She was ranting to herself in what she later learned to be the snake language. Zmeya came from her den and, after scaring Holly half to death, they started talking and had been friends ever since and Holly named her Zmeya. It was Russian for snake.
Zmeya flicked her tongue in annoyance, " You should let me bite her." Holly laughed at the snake's insistence to bite people for Holly. It especially wanted to bite Miss Evelin for being so cruel to her. " You know you can't do that. They will take you away if they do that." Zmeya rolled her eyes but nodded her head. Most of their conversations didn't really have meaning, they just talked about anything and everything, and they both enjoyed the company of the other.
After around half an hour of talking with Zmeya, Holly got up from the grass and stretched her legs, " I will see you tomorrow, Zmeya, I need to get going." the snake nodded its head in acknowledgement and slithered back into its hole.

Holly opened the door to the village library and gave a small wave to the librarian who ignored her completely. Most of the villagers tended to do so after word got out that the reason Mr Everlin visited the orphanage so frequently was not to see his sister. Excluding the librarian the library was one of Holly's favourite places; it was rare for the other children to go near the place and it was always quiet. But most of all she loved reading the books. She always tried to read at least one fiction book and a nonfiction book. She loved to learn but it was always fun to read cool stories.
She had finished her last pair of books so was here to browse and find more books to read. She headed to the nonfiction section first and, after skimming lots of books – some of which she had already read, she finally came to a stop and pulled out a book on the times tables – she was learning about them in school and was enjoying it so decided to give it a read. She then went to the fiction section and after browsing the shelves for a moment a book caught her eye, "Molly Moon's incredible book of hypnotism." Holly had never seen the book before and it seemed like an interesting read.
She took her books to the librarian who barely and reluctantly glanced up from her own book while checking Holly's out. She made her way back to the orphanage and put the times table book in her bag and started to read her newest book. And she was hooked. Molly (the main character of the book) was an orphan like her, who had a cruel matron like she did. And had powers like she did, although Molly had a book explaining how to use them. Later that night after cleaning the dishes in the kitchen until they practically sparkled Holly lay in bed, her mind racing. Molly was able to use her new found powers to improve her life in the orphanage, maybe she could do something like that too.

Holly stared at the rock in front of her unblinkingly, trying to make something happen to it, anything. She thought back to all the times she made odd things happen, they only seemed to happen when she was emotional and the odd things seemed accidental. She was grasping at straws, but she guessed that she needed to try and summon up the similar emotions and find a way to trigger her powers.
She thought about the matron, how she would always punish her for the smallest things. Forcing her to do the worst chores and locking her in the basement without dinner. And forcing her to endure those exorcisms. She hated it. She thought about the other children in the orphanage, she remembered how they spread rumours about her, told lies to the matron to get her in trouble, stole her things, ripped her books. She hated them.
Holly shuddered as she continued to focus on her hatred; it felt like something was bubbling to the surface. It felt odd she had never felt anything like it and yet it seemed familiar somehow. She felt her anger spike and at the same time the bubbling feeling erupted out of her hands and the rock she was staring at shot across the room and shattered against the far wall.
Holly blinked. She did it. She used her powers. Holly quickly rushed over to the rock and examined it, the rock had shattered into tiny pieces. She grinned to herself she was on the right track.
