The day she married the second love of her life, she felt like it wasn't real, she felt like nothing was real. She felt she was dreaming, that any second she'd wake up and she'd be alone in bed and Will would be dead, that he was killed in the courtroom.
She felt like she was dreaming when her mother, daughter, Diane and Kalinda came to her bedroom in their lake house to help get her ready. She felt like she was dreaming when she had her hair curled and her makeup applied to her face. She felt she was dreaming when she put on her white, strapless, sparkly wedding dress. She felt like she was dreaming when she slipped into her heels. She felt like she was dreaming when she presented with a daisy, encrusted diamond tiara from her soon-to-be- husband.
She felt like she was dreaming when she saw her little girl in her bridesmaid dress. She felt like she was dreaming when a knock came at the door and Peter and Zach entered the room in their tuxes. She felt like she was dreaming when Grace and Diane hugged her and left her alone with her two boys. She felt like she was dreaming when Peter asked if she was ready to do this, to marry Will. She felt like she was dreaming when Zach told her he had his car on standby ready to make a quick getaway if she wanted to. She felt like she was dreaming when they walked out of her and Will's bedroom, which they would enter as husband and wife. She felt like she was dreaming when she walked down the stairs, her heels clicking loudly.
She thought she was dreaming when she walked to the back open door that would lead her to her soon to be husband. She thought she was dreaming when Zach and Peter both held out their arms for her to take. She felt like she was dreaming when Zach told her to focus on Will and nothing else. She thought she was dreaming when she felt the sun on her face as Peter and Zach walked her down the aisle. She thought she was dreaming when she saw all her old college friends, Will's lawyer friends from his basketball games, Diane, Kurt, Cary, Kalinda, Lana, David, Julius, her mother, her brother, Will's mother, Sara, Aubrey, and Grace who was walking in front of her, and saw Finn Polmar, the AUSA who helped save Will in the courthouse shooting at Will's side as his best man. She thought she was dreaming when she locked eyes with Will when she saw him at the altar.
She felt like she was dreaming when she reached the altar and saw Will's outstretched hand. She felt like she was dreaming when both Peter and Zach hugged her and kissed her cheek before putting her hand in Will's. She felt like she was dreaming when Peter nodded his head at her, silently telling her that he'll be okay, and that she can marry Will. She thought she was dreaming when both Peter and Zach told Will that he better take care of her or else hell would be raining down on him. She felt like she was dreaming when Will's fingers wrapped around hers. She felt like she was dreaming when their eyes were locked together like magnets. She felt like she was dreaming when it felt like it was only her and Will in the garden
She felt she was dreaming when Will started to say his vows to her.
"Alicia, I've loved you for 21 years, that's just over half of my life. The day I met you in Criminal Law 101 sitting in seat 35L, I knew I would marry you one day. You saved me a year ago when I got shot, I was meant to be dead but I knew I had to fight to get back to you, to tell you I loved you so I fought to get to you. You awoke a strength in me that I never knew I had. You're the only woman I've ever loved, and the only woman I ever will love for as long as I live.
We were meant to be together, no matter how long it took, no matter how many heartbreaks it took us, no matter how many fights we had, no matter how many years we had apart, no matter how much bad timing we had. we were meant to be together and now we are, we finally got our good timing. I want you and only you, forever, and I'm going to fight like hell to ensure we always keep our good timing, no matter how long it lasts because you deserve the good timing, you deserve our good timing." Will said emotionally as tears fell from his eyes and landed on their joined hands.
Alicia felt like she was dreaming when she said her vows, the vows she didn't need to write down or think about, the vows she just knew what to say, she had for years.
"Will, you're my best friend. You have been for 21 years. From seat 35L, to our first pool party, to thousands of study sessions, to holidays spent together at college, to trips with our friends, to the hugs, the tears, to consuming a lot of coffee, to graduation, to our last pool party where you and I both jumped in, to taking the LSAT and passing the Bar, I did all that with you at my side. I became a lawyer with you at my side, because you wouldn't let me quit when I wanted to. You've never let me quit because you never gave up on me, you were my strength when I needed it. Through the good and the bad times, you've always been my strength. With you by my side, I can do anything I set my mind to.
You said I saved you a year ago, well you also saved me. You saved me when I needed to be saved, because I finally let myself love you, and only you. I fell in love with you 21 years ago. But I believe that we were meant to go through what we went through in order to get where we are right now: our forever good timing. That's all we've needed: good timing but it took us a few bumps in the road to acquire it.
We finally have our good timing, forever and I can't wait to spend it reminding you how much I love you because I do and I will love you for the rest of my however long or short it might be because you're my good timing."
Alicia felt like she was dreaming when she and Will were handed their rings from Zach and Grace who were on either side of them. She felt like she was dreaming when he slipped hers on her finger. She felt like she was dreaming when they were pronounced husband and wife. She felt like she was dreaming when Will's arms snaked around her waist and kissed her for the first time as his wife. She felt like she was dreaming as her smile got bigger. She felt like she was dreaming when the cheers of their guests reached her ears. She felt like she was dreaming when she and Will were announced as Mr and Mrs Gardner. She felt like she was dreaming when she walked down the aisle with her husband at her side.
She felt like she was dreaming when she and Will entered their lake house. She felt like she was dreaming when he kissed her away from the prying of their guests. She felt she was dreaming when she saw the smile on his face. She felt like she was dreaming she looked down at their joined hands. She felt like she was dreaming when it finally hit her: she was married to Will Gardner, her best friend. She felt like she was dreaming when she was suddenly wrapped in her new husband's arms. She felt like she was dreaming when the photographer entered the house. She felt like she was dreaming when she heard the click of the camera. She felt like she was dreaming as every picture was taken. She felt like she was dreaming when Will led her back out to the garden as the DJ announced them. She felt she was dreaming when she heard the cheers as they walked onto the dance floor. She felt like she was dreaming when she was twirled around the floor by her new husband. She felt like she was dreaming when she stared into his eyes. She felt like she was dreaming when he suddenly lifted her into the air, a squeal left her lips as he put her back on the ground and continued to dance, being joined by Grace and Zach, Diane and Kurt and Kalinda and Lana. She felt like she was dreaming when she was spun by Will and caught by Kurt while Will caught Diane. She felt like she was dreaming when she met Diane's eyes. She felt like she was dreaming when Peter tapped her new husband after Kurt had let her go. She felt like she was dreaming when the main men in her life shared a smile. She felt like she was dreaming when Will kissed her softly on the lips, slapped Peter on his shoulder and went over to ask Grace for a dance. She felt like she was reaming as Peter held her in his arms again.
"You know I'm damn proud of you, don't you?" Peter had asked her.
"For what?" She replied, Peter gave her a smile.
"Alicia, you raised our two kids, you stood by me when I put you through hell, you picked yourself up when you fell, you got a job at one the top law firms in the city. You followed your heart even when your head was telling you not to, you told Will you loved him after denying it for years, you're married to Mr Georgetown. That's why I'm proud of you." Peter told her.
She felt like she was dreaming when he kissed her on her cheek. She felt like she was dreaming when Zach suddenly appeared in front of her and wrapped him in her arms. She felt like she was dreaming when her eyes filled with tears as Zach said 'I love you, Mom, me and Grace do.' She felt like she was dreaming when she kissed his forehead and was twirled around by her son.
She felt like she was dreaming when Zach and Grace stood up, watched to the DJ booth and started hooking Zach's laptop to the projector. She felt like she was dreaming when Grace took a microphone and started to speak, looking at her mother and stepdad.
"First of all, this whole thing was Zach's idea and I'm only doing it because I love the two of you, and that my brother told me he'd finally get me a puppy if I did this. But Will, thank you for making our Mom so happy, we couldn't be happier for the two of you, or that Will is joining our family. Mom, there's not enough words in the world to tell you how much me and Zach love you, so we'll just show you instead."
She felt like she was dreaming photos of her with her two babies slid across the screen. She thought she was dreaming when she heard the words 'we love you Mommy.' before she was tackled in toddler kisses. She felt like she was dreaming when pictures of her and Will in college slid by. She felt like she was dreaming when she saw a video of her and Will jumping into a pool together, holding hands and screaming with smiles on their faces. She felt like she was dreaming when a picture of her holding a three year old Zach in the air with a smile on her face. She felt like she was dreaming when she saw herself laying on her stomach in the middle of laughing as Grace jumped on her back, her little arms around Alicia's neck. She felt like she was dreaming when a graduation picture of her and Will showed up. She felt like she was dreaming when she saw a black and white photo of herself and Will dancing in his office. She felt like she was dreaming when she remembered how she had convinced Will to dance in the office with her. She felt like she was dreaming when she smiled when an old picture came up of her on Will's back, they were both smiling at each other like they were the only people in the world. She felt like she was dreaming when a picture of Will, Zach and Grace appeared. She felt like she was dreaming when she took her husband's hand underneath the table and leaned her head on his shoulder.
She felt like she was dreaming when she stood up and embraced both her kids after the slide show ended and cupped their cheeks. "I love you both, so much, so do your dad and Will." She said. She felt like she was dreaming when Cary, Diane, Peter, Kalinda, David and their college friends stood up and spoke about her and Will, and how about they got their good timing after 20 years of having bad timing.
She thought she was dreaming when they cut the chocolate wedding cake and Will fed her a piece. She felt like she was dreaming when they finally said goodnight to their guests at 2 am. She felt like she was dreaming when Zach and Grace hugged her and Will goodbye as they would be leaving with Peter and staying with him until they got back from their honeymoon in two weeks.
She felt she was dreaming when it was just her and her new husband alone. She felt she was dreaming when Will led her upstairs to their bedroom. She felt like she was dreaming when Will kissed her before he lifted her up in his arms and carried her into their bedroom before he set her down on her feet in front of their bed. She felt like she was dreaming when he kissed her again, his hands going to the back of her dress. She felt like she was dreaming when Will peeled her wedding dress from her body. She felt like she was dreaming when she started to undress her new husband. She felt like she was dreaming when she was pushed back onto the bed gently.
She felt like she was dreaming when her husband kissed her over and over again after he had pulled out of her. She felt like she was dreaming when Will said 'Mrs Gardner' over and over into her hair. She felt like she was dreaming when she couldn't stop staring at his face in the dark which had a permanent smile. She felt like she was dreaming when she lay her head over her husband's chest as his arms wrapped around her waist, protecting her even as they slept.
She felt she was dreaming when she looked beside her and saw her sleeping husband just two hours after they had fallen asleep. She felt like she was dreaming when she watched his eyes slit open with the same smile he wore the previous day. She felt like she was dreaming when he said 'good morning Mrs Gardner.' She felt like she was dreaming when she said 'good morning Mr Gardner.' She felt she was dreaming when Will left their room in nothing but his boxers to get their breakfast before they had to get ready to leave the airport. She felt like she was dreaming when her husband re-entered their bedroom with a tray full of coffee and two plates of pancakes topped with strawberries and sugar.
She felt like she was dreaming as they walked hand in hand through the airport. She felt like she was dreaming as they boarded their flight, hands still locked. She felt like she was dreaming when Will ordered them a bottle of red wine. She felt like she was dreaming when she was handed a glass of red wine. She felt like she was dreaming when she threaded their fingers together. She felt like she was dreaming when she felt the metal of his ring against her finger bone. She felt like she was dreaming when the sunlight hit her engagement rings, causing it to sparkle around her.
She didn't feel like she was dreaming when Will leaned over and kissed her for what felt the millionth time that morning. She smiled into the kiss.
"I'll love you forever." She said. Will blinked a few tears out of his eyes as he tightened his grip on her hand.
"I'm okay with that." He replied as they both looked out of the window inside what was going to take them to the start of their forever good timing.
