I paused for a second. I had gotten this far, but what was next? I didn't really want to spend time with Jessica or Angela. I knew that sounded horrible, but I was miserable and their happiness made me feel so much worse. They could so easily enjoy small things like inside jokes and boys and the weather. Those felt pointless to me. Nothing could ease the pain I felt, not even my friends. But I had promised Charlie I would try, and with how much that man put up with, I couldn't let him down.
