Penelope was having lunch with Furrball at a nearby cafe.
"Salmon has grown on me quite a bit." Penelope informed.
"This is real good." Furrball replied. "Dip some in the tartare sauce, it tastes even better."
She took some of the salmon and dipped it in the tartare sauce. When she tried it, she started scarfing it down.
"Whoa, calm down." Furrball said.
"I'm sorry, son." Penelope replied. "It just tastes so- hic!"
She hiccuped.
"Oh dear." She said afterwards.
After they went back to Penelope's house, Furrball instructed Penelope to stand upside down.
"For how long?" She asked.
"Maybe ten seconds will do." Furrball replied. "I'll time it for you."
Penelope stood upside down on the couch while Furrball counted with a timer. Seven seconds in, Penelope fell and hiccuped again.
"Have anymore ideas?" Penelope asked.
"How about holding your breath?" Furrball suggested.
Penelope started holding her breath.
"Hold it for as long as possible." Furrball instructed.
After twenty seconds, Penelope's face began to turn purple and she exhaled deeply before hiccuping again. As Penelope regained her breath, Furrball approached her with a glass of water.
"Try drinking this while leaning to the left." He said.
Penelope sat on the couch, and began drinking the water while leaning left, only to hiccup yet again, spilling water on Furrball's face in the process.
"Oops." She said, sheepishly. "Sorry, sweetheart."
After cleaning up, Furrball gave Penelope a stick of bubblegum.
"Maybe chewing will help?" He guessed.
Penelope took the gum and chewed it. She blew a bubble which popped on her face before she hiccuped again.
"It might be hopeless." Penelope sighed, cleaning the gum from her mouth. "But what else can we try?"
She didn't see Furrball, but she did hear the sound of a paper bag being blown into behind her. Before she could turn to see it, Furrball burst the bag with one of his claws, scaring Penelope and causing her to jump to the ceiling.
"Sorry if I scared you, but scaring is another good tactic." He informed.
Penelope waited for a few seconds and realised that she didn't hiccup.
"Furrball, you did it!" She exclaimed, releasing herself from the ceiling. "You've cured my hiccups!"
She picked him up and gently kissed his cheek in gratitude, causing Furrball to blush.
"I tend to blush whenever I'm kissed." He said.
"Oh really?" Penelope smiled.
Then, she put Furrball down and began to write a text to Shirley. What Penelope texted to Shirley will be revealed in another story.
