Jay hands couldn't stop shaking violently.
No matter how hard he tried they just wouldn't stop.
Lighting was coming out of them at random intervals.
He hated this.
He hated it so much.
And the worst part is... he couldn't stop looking at them either.
He tried not to look, he really did, but there wasn't much to do.
Even after washing them, after tossing changing his Gi he could still see and feel the blood.
It was definitely not helping him, at all.
He didn't think he could see the colour red for some time without feeling nauseous.
Which was unfortunate considering the job.
The worst part was being alone at the monastery.
He wasn't even allowed in the same place where one of his family members was dying.
And it hurt.
He usually really enjoyed having lighting powers, one of the hest powers in his opinion.
But it also made him dangerous when having outbursts.
Him having them wasn't something new, on the contrary, they were far more common years ago when he had little training.
But he had managed to get them under control... mostly.
It didn't mean they couldn't appear under extreme stressful and emotional situations.
Like right now.
Which is exactly the reason why he found himself sitting in the darkened room that was the monastery living room.
He hadn't trust himself to turn on the lights, nor the TV, and there wasn't anyone else at home so he was just... There.
Besides the TV would just make it worse. He felt useless, as if he hadn't done good enough.
Letting out a shaky breath he looked up at the dark ceiling, waiting because what else could he do?
Every now and then a lighting would shot out of his body or the lights would flicker and he couldn't help but curse.
This is why he wasn't allowed to stay at the hospital, his ourtbusts could damage the building or machines and that would be far far worse.
It would mean civilians might get harmed.
As much as he wanted to be there he couldn't allow that.
He let out a shaky breath and sniffled, he wasn't going to cry.
Trying to even his breath he closed his eyes.
"... Jay?"
Despite the softness of the voice he still jumped, heart racing up again. Lightning shooting out.
"... Oh, Jay" So soft.
The namesake looked up, it was Cole.
He looked so tired, in a state of alertness despite it.
"Cole" It was barely a whisper.
"Hey buddy"
The bigger man tried to smile but it failed, coming out as a grimace more than anything.
Yeah, Jay could relate to that.
Without another word Cole sat down alongside Jay, maneuvering then until the blue ninja head was resting on his shoulder.
Jay stiffed for a moment at the sudden contact but soon enough welcomed the heat source and company, snuggling a bit more into him.
Carefully, Cole took one of Jay hands on his own, massaging it, trying to reminder Jay that he was there, that he was not alone.
If he was bothered by the shocks that ran through him he didn't say anything.
Jay hummed, he could feel how tense Cole was as he buried his face on the others neck.
None knows how long they were like that but eventually more footsteps were heard.
Quite heavy, with a small rattling metallic sound, it wasn't only one person but two.
Zane and Pixal.
As one pair faded onto the background the other became louder.
Eventually it stopped at the doorway.
"... Hey Zane"
Despite probably coming to the room searching for them Zane still jumped slightly, Jay opened his eyes to see the Nindroid pale blue ones shining in the darkness.
The Nindroid didn't say anything, taking his spoken name as an invitation to join them, sitting on the other side of Jay and taking his other hand.
None say anything for a few more minutes, only being surprised when there was a sound and the door that led to the hangar opened.
"... Is she?" Asked Jay.
Zane let out a sad sigh.
"She's... Fine" No she was not. None of them were. "Just shaken"
Yeah, just like all of them.
Pixal was... weirdly close to the fire Ninja, after having to spend a few days together alone at the monastery (Kai had gotten hurt and they had to go on ab emergency mission, Pixal ended up babysitting him) both had become incredibly close friends.
Back then it had been such a weird sight to behold. Now they hoped to see their bickering again.
Zane sat closer to Jay, before snuggling up to him.
There was... He was cold, more than usual and Jay figured his powers were acting emotionally, just like theirs, he looked down for a moment before taking one of the metallic hands onto his own, tried to ignore the dry red stains stuck to his joints.
Jay tried not to think about it.
The silence was broken once again, this time by Cole.
"Zane..."
"Uhm"
"How... Are you?"
"I'm...fine"
"Zane"
"I'm... shaken up"
Jay hummed, that was one way to describe it.
The again, the inhumanely trembling cold hand that was cradling his left one and the dramatic drop on temperature of the room said a lot more.
They knew this had been so stressful, but especially for Zane and Pixal since they were the designated medics.
It was not the first time they've treated one of their own nor the first time they've had to do so under dire or life threathening circumstances.
But it never got easy, especially not then this one was particularly so so close to a bad outcome.
Remembering Jay hands shook a bit more and electricity rand through all of them, none said anything.
"Cole?"
"Yeah?" His voice was so unbelievable soft.
"Is... Is he... Do you... What...I... "
"Take a deep breath"
And so he did
"Is just... I... So much blood, there was so much blood and I.. I"
A sob wrecked through him.
"I couldn't do anything, I couldn't do anything"
"Jay is not your fault..."
"He was in front of me Cole, he was right in front of me and I couldn't do anything"
"..Jay"
A cold hand made circular motions on his back, he sobbed again.
"He's gonna be okay Jay, we're gonna be okay"
"You don't know that" He wailed.
That's when someone bright him into a hug, it felt warm (Not as warm as Kai's) strong arms and muscles practically holding him together.
Cole.
Someone joined the hug from behind, muttering something about "He's gonna be fine", the embrace was firm but it too was warm, it made Jay feel a bit better.
He doesn't know for how long he sobbed but eventually it he did calm down if only for the tiredness he felt weighting him down.
"Zane" He murmured from his place against Coles chest, who was combing Jay's messy light brown hair with his finger.
"Uhm?"
Jay separated, looking up to find Cole looking back, despite his apparent calm behavior the orange eyes that almost seemed to glow in the dark were on the brim of tears.
Jay squeezed his arm, before looking above His shoulder, meeting Zanes shaken expression.
"How... How was he?"
"... Stable"
The lightning ninja sighed, resting his head on Coles arm, said guy hands going to hold him by the waist in a protectively manner.
"Please don't sugarcoat it" He murmured.
Cole too looked back at Zane who faltered a but before giving in, sighing.
"Will saying every little detail really help you in this state?"
The smaller ninja grimaced.
"I just want more information" Jay mumbled "Stable doesn't say much"
Right, okay.
"He's... The surgery went fine" Jay hummed and Zane took that as a cue to continue "He got another transfusion"
Jay shuddered at that.
"I'm... Not sure about the rest" He admitted, voice heavy. "I can tell you he's still out, recovering, the medics look optimistic about it"
Jay went back to hiding his face in Cole's neck, sighing.
"Okay"
See that wasn't a lie, however, Zane decided to omit one little but and that but was the condition of Kai surviving the night. Only then they would know if he would be able to recover or not.
But they didn't need to know that, not at the moment, the only one that were told this were Nya and Zane, and both had chosen not to say to the others. Was that a wise decision? They would find out in the morning.
"Don't worry Bluejay" Cole spoke, playing with curly, messy hair. It pulled Zane out of his own spiraling thoughts. "We're talking about Kai, he's gonna fight the First Spinjitsu Master, the whole cloud kingdom and departed realm alone with his own bare hands if it means he can come back to us".
Jay huffed a smile.
"I hope you're right"
All three went back to being silent, comforting each other with their presence until finally, all three fell asleep on the couch.
Lloyd felt drained.
Completely and absolutely drained, he was tired so so tired and yet he couldn't find a moment to rest despite having been in the same hospital chair for hours.
Nya was hugging him tightly, both were still soaked in blood.
The nurses had come and tried to attend them too, they cleaned their wounds and gave them some food, especially for Nya who had to have her blood drawn back in the bounty.
She needed as much rest as she could get despite the current situation.
Lloyd sighed, playing idly with his now clean hands, he could still see the blood, he could still feel the blood.
It's been some time since he had felt so scared, so helpless so... useless.
But seeing one of your older brothers and one of your father figures choke and die on their own blood so far away from civilization will do that to you.
Lloyd sniffled, he told himself he wasn't gonna cry, despite the tightness in his throat and the water in his eyes. It was just unfair. So so unfair.
Kai didn't deserve this.
The young Ninja growled remembering that had they been faster or more careful this wouldn't have happened. It was his fail, had failed as a leader and as a sibling.
"Is not your fault Lloyd"
Lloyd jumped, feeling Nya move on his shoulder, where she had been resting for some time now.
"I... I know that"
Nya straightened up, sniffling and cleaning her face with a sleeve, Lloyd noted it was the one that had less blood on it.
"Lloyd" She said softly, carefully taking his face and making him look at her, usual reddish marron eyes all bloodshot. "This is not your fault"
Lloyd hiccuped and before he could be aware of it he was being hugged by Nya, Lloyd rested his head on her shoulder and started to sob.
"It is!" He whined, tears falling down his face and making more of a mess on the grey Gi. "I'm the one that came up with the plan, I'm the one that told Jay and Kai to go ahead! I... I...!"
He cried loudly on Nya's embrance, his older sister rubbing his back in soothing motions and if she started crying too he didn't said anything.
The ordeal was even more exhausting to their already tired bodies but none wanted to let go, thought the position of hugging while having the armrests eventually became too tiring and painful to hold that same position so relunctantly they let go of each other.
It didn't take much for Nya to hold Lloyd's head again, this time with both hand and press their foreheads together, Lloyd hesitantly hold her wrists.
"Lloyd Montgomery Garmadon"
He flinched slightly but keep his gaze on Nya's eyes.
"This is not your fault, is not yours, not Jay, Cole or Zane either"
"Is not yours either"
Nya closed her eyes for a moment "I know" She muttered.
Slowly Lloyd moved his hand upwards, so he could hold Nyas hands which were still holding his cheeks.
"He's gonna be fine... Right?"
Nya opened her eyes, dark red looking at his own purple and green ones.
"I... Yes.. Of course he will. This is Kai, he promised it didn't he?"
Lloyd smiled, sadly, it wouldn't be the first promise someone had broken to him. Nevertheless this time he chose to believe it, he wanted to believe it.
"He did, that's our big brother, isn't he?"
"That he is" Nya hummed, bumping their foreheads in a small playful motion before separating from him.
"We're going to be fine Lloyd" Nya looked at the door of the room, before putting her hands together as if deep in thought "We're gonna be fine" she muttered.
They fell into silent company, eventually Lloyd resting his head on Nya shoulders as she idly played with his brother braid, deep in thought.
He didn't know what time it was and he didn't want know, rubbing his tired eye he wished the rest of the team would be able to rest, somehow.
And they hadn't contact Wu and Misako yet.
This had to be one of the worst nights of his life hands down.
Entering the top of the tower to find Jay screaming his lung out not only for Kai to stay in this realm but for the rest of the team to just hurry and do something all while kneeling down in a pool of blood as he frantically tried to just try and keep Kai alive had really been an experience.
Internally he wished that the plane the villain was using this time around would just crash and burn.
That would be the best outcome for this whole mission.
He closed his eyes, hoping Jay wouldn't be plagued by this experience (He knew he would, they all would).
And hoping hard he wasn't blaming himself (They all were)
Imagining being surrounded by all of his family the tiredness of the day finally started to catch up with him and he started to doze off.
Wishing his sleep wouldn't be plagued by dreams nor nightmares, just a dark, comforting void he snuggled more onto Nya, she took one of his hands.
They were going to be fine.
Kai was going to be fine.
As both siblings started to finally have some sort of rest an alarm went off.
Nya almost jumped out of the seat. Lloyd almost fell down.
Both looked up. Horrified.
Just in time to spot the doctors running towards where their brother room was.
Entering.
So, what happened? Villain and Ninja team were searching for an item because #genericvillainplan, Ninja get separated, Kai and Jay are together when they're ambushed (as does the rest of the team), they're aprehended, villain takes item and to gain time cuts Kai throat, deeply.
You can guess how the rest goes, btw when Kai drops to the ground Jay is still aprehended, and the rest of the team (who are quite far) can only hear Jay whailing and screaming Kai's name
