Chapter 8: Denial
Hey everyone I'm back with a new chapter. I'm glad all of you enjoyed my last chapter. Sorry about the wait, I was really into my other stories for a while but I'm back. I hope you like what I have planned. Please Review and Enjoy.
We find ourselves in the beautiful vibrant city of New Orleans as an elderly man with a cane was walking down the street until stopping at a place called Madam Xandu's.
Taking out a gold pocket watch the man opens it to reveal a portrait of a woman before walking inside.
Behind some beads, a woman with brown skin walks out.
"Bonsoir monsieur. How can Madame Xanadu be of service?" She asks walking up to him. "Ah. There is someone to whom you wish to speak. Your wife." She assumes.
"Yes, my Inza." The man said gripping the watch tight.
"Then Madame will make contact if fate be kind." Madame Xanadu said.
"Oh but he so rarely is." The man sighs sitting down.
Clearing her throat Madam Xanadu holds out her hand hoping to be paid.
"Oh of course." Taking out some bills he hands it to her.
Taking a deep breath a bright light engulfs Madame Xanadu as a strong wind blew out all the candles and the table rose.
"Oh, my darling, how I've missed you. I'm so lonely here, and cold." She said causing the old man to laugh.
"That's the best you could do?" He smiles making everything stop.
"Imbecile. You've interrupted the spell. Your wife is lost forever." Madam Xanadu scolds.
"That was supposed to be my wife? Heck, my little spitfire would've kicked my can for throwing away good money on you." He chuckles.
"No refunds for non-believers." She said standing up.
"I think we both know you're the non-believer, madam. A wind machine. Tire jacks under the table." He said exposing all her tricks. "A shame too, you have the perfect aura for the work. And nothing would have pleased me more than to be reunited with my bride."
Almost on cue a large muscular with black hair in a ponytail, a beard, and a goatee grabbed the old man. This was Abra Kadabra.
"You will be with her soon enough." Abra Kadabra declares as they were both transported out of the shop much to Madame Xanadu's surprise.
As she ran out in fear, none of them noticed the old man's cane was glowing.
At Mount Justice, we see a sparring match going on between Superboy and Kaldur while M'Gann, Artemis, Wally, Gio in civilian wear and the turtles watched from the sidelines.
"Initiating combat sequence!" The computer said as both boys attacked.
"Come on Superboy knock fishboy out of the water!" Raph said.
"You got this Aquadude!" Mikey cheers.
"Kaldur's, uh, nice, don't you think? Handsome, commanding. You should totally ask him out." Artemis suggests.
"He's like a big brother to me. But you know who would make the cutest couple? You and Gio." M'Gann said pointing across to see him, Wally and the turtles eating a pizza. "You're so full of passion and he's so full of—"
"Pizza." Artemis finishes.
"Give him a chance. You two might have more in common than you realize." M'Gann suggests.
As Wally opened the box, he saw all the slices were gone.
"Ugh seriously guys?" Wally groans.
"Here." Taking one of his slices Gio hands it to him.
"You the man Gio." Wally smiles eating it.
Seeing this Artemis smiled softly.
Ever since the two of them were stuck together and had that kiss things had been a little weird between them.
Moving in Kaldur tries to tackle Superboy but at the last second, he sweeps his leg during the grapple and throws Kaldur to the ground.
"Failed Aqualad."
"Oh yeah! Take that Mikey!" Raph said.
"Aw man." Mikey groans as Raph takes his pizza.
"Nice moves Superboy." Leo said.
"Black Canary taught me that." Superboy said proudly.
"I can't wait to learn from her now." Donnie said wanting to do moves like that.
Suddenly a hatch above them opened up to reveal Red Tornado making his leave.
"Hey do you have a mission for us?" Wally asks super speeding over.
"Mission assignments are the Batman's responsibility." Red Tornado informs.
"We know but he's off with Robin doing the whole dynamic-duo thing in Gotham." Wally said.
"Not to mention the whole Kraang situation is quiet in New York and we need to stay occupied." Leo said.
"But you're headed somewhere, right? Hot date? Or a mission? If we can be of help." Wally offers.
Seeing that they all were eager, Red Tornado brought up a screen showing the man from New Orleans.
"This is Kent Nelson, a friend. He is 106 years old." Red Tornado said.
"Whoa, he aged well." Gio said.
"Yeah wonder what his secret is?" Wally asks.
"And he has been missing for 23 days. Kent was a charter member of the Justice Society the precursor to your mentors' Justice League." Red Tornado said as Kent's image changed to a man in a gold helmet and suit.
"Of course. Nelson was Earth's sorcerer supreme. He was Dr. Fate." Kaldur said.
"Wait you mean to tell me this guy used magic?" Leo asks.
"Exactly." Kaldur said.
"Cool! A real wizard!" Mikey said with stars in his eyes.
"Ha! Good one guys. There's no such thing as magic." Donnie said.
"Yeah I'm with Donnie. Dude probably knows Advanced Science and Dumbledores it up to impress the babes." Wally said whispering to Gio.
"Kent may simply be on one of his walkabouts, but he is caretaker to the Helmet of Fate, the source of the doctor's mystic might. And it is unwise to leave such power unguarded." Red Tornado informs.
"What do you think guys?" Gio asks turning to his brothers.
"If this guy is missing he might need our help. I say we go." Leo said.
"Meh beats seating around doing nothing." Raph shrugs.
"I don't believe this whole magic stuff but I guess I can help." Donnie said.
"Count me in!" Mikey said.
"Well looks like me and my brothers are in." Gio said.
"Don't suppose any of you guys want to join us?" Mikey asks.
"He's like the great sorcerer priests and priestesses of Mars. I would be honored to help find him." M'Gann said.
"Me too!" Wally said quickly raising his hand. "So honored I can barely stand it. Magic rocks."
"Yeah sure dude." Gio rolls his eyes.
"You'll need this." Red Tornado hands them a strange-looking key. "It is the Key to the Tower of Fate."
"Hmm don't suppose this has an address on it?" Mikey asks.
Soon they were all in the bioship, the Turtles and Gio strapped their weapons on as Gio reached for his mask Mikey swipes it.
"Hey that's my mask!" Gio said.
"Come on Gio, I always wanted to try green." Mikey said.
"Mikey all of us our green." Leo said.
"Not Gio." Mikey said.
"Give it to me!" Leaping at him, Gio tackles Mikey to the ground and tries wrestling his mask out of his hand.
"Come on Gio hit em! Hit em!" Raph said as Leo and Donnie separated them.
"You guys never let me have any fun." Mikey said as Gio took his mask.
"No Mikey if anything we let you have too much fun." Donnie said.
"Ugh is this pizza grease?" Gio asks noticing a stain on his mask.
Turning to Mikey they saw his fingers still had pizza grease on them.
"You really need to wash your hands more often Mikey." Superboy said.
"Man what would Master Spinter say if he knew I got this dirty?" Gio whines.
"Oh stop whining you big baby." Raph said yanking Gio's hood over his head to cover his face.
Looking at M'Gann, Artemis rolls her eyes at their behavior.
"So juvenile." Artemis said while M'Gann just giggles.
Meanwhile, at an old abandoned theater, a small orange cat wanders in to join a young boy in a black suit with pointy black hair. This was Klarion.
"Grant us access to the tower and I promise an end to your suffering. Continue to refuse and..." Abra Kadabra said as Kent's screams echoed through the theater.
Meowing the cat looks to Klarion.
"Shush, Teekl, I'm watching the show." Klarion said looking at the stage where Kent was tied up and being interrogated by Abra Kadabra.
"Enjoy it while you can. Soon enough, my friends will come to help me." Kent pants before he was zapped again making him scream.
"Encore! Encore!" Klarion cheers.
Hissing Teekl got his master's attention.
"What?" Klarion asks as Teekl meows. "Oh." He said interested.
In a large park just outside the theater, the Team waited as Wally ran back to them with the Leo and Raph leaping out of the trees.
"Anything?" Artemis asks.
"I think your robot nanny had a few screws loose. There's no sign of any kind of tower here." Raph said.
"No sign of camouflage either. Are you sure this is the right place?" Leo asks.
"Yeah this is what Red Tornado said. What do you think?" Wally asks looking at Artemis and Donnie.
"It could be Adaptive micro-optoelectronics combined with phase-shifting." Donnie theorized.
"Absolutely…" Wally agrees until M'Gann walks over. "Not. Clearly mystic powers are at work here."
"Okay what the heck is his deal right now? He's acting dumber than…well Mikey." Gio gestures.
"Wally has a not-so-secret crush on her." Artemis whispers.
"Sheesh could he sound any lamer?" Gio said.
"I know right." Artemis agrees.
In the back near the theater, Klarion, Kent, and Abra Kadabra appear out front having overheard that.
"Hey, Abra Kadabra. Aren't you using adaptive micro-optoelectronics and phase-shifting?" Klarion asks looking at him.
"Yes." Abra Kadabra said with humiliation in his voice.
"Ooh if it's magic maybe it just requires some magic words." Mikey said turning to the park. "Open sesame! Abra Kadabra! Hocus Pocus! Bippidi-bobbidi boo! Shabalabadingdong!"
Groaning all of Mikey's brothers facepalm.
"The only ding dong around here is you Mikey." Raph said bonking Mikey on the head shutting him up.
"Anyone else got any ideas? We're open to suggestions." Gio asks.
Looking at the key, Kaldur noticed the words INSERT were engraved on it.
"A test of faith. Stand behind me." Slowly walking to the front, Kaldur held the key out and turns it like he would a door and suddenly a giant stone tower appeared where Aqualad put the key much to everyone's shock.
"Whoa! What in the?!" Mikey gasps.
"It can't be." Donnie said.
"Donnie, I think magic is real." Leo said.
Slowly they all made their way in and the door shut behind them before disappearing.
"Uh where'd the door go?" Superboy asks.
Appearing in front of them a projection of Kent Nelson appeared.
"Greetings. You have entered with a key, but the tower does not recognize you. Please state your purpose and intent." It said.
Pausing Wally looked to the others and stepped forward.
"We are true believers, here to find Dr. Fate." Wally declares.
Hearing this, the projection narrowed his eyes before disappearing.
"So uh is he going to get the real Kent or what?" Mikey asks when suddenly the ground under them began to break.
"I'm gonna say or what!" Gio said as it broke under them revealing a giant pool of lava.
Taking out their weapons, Leo, Raph and Gio stab their swords, tonfas and sais into the wall to stop them from falling.
Taking out his kusarigama, Mikey throws it up grabbing him and Donnie.
Flying in, M'Gann caught Wally while Artemis drew a crossbow and grabbed Kaldur.
"Superboy!" Gio throws a chain down for him to grab making him stop just inches over the lava.
Panting heavily Superboy looks up in thanks.
"Thanks Gio! I owe ya one!" Superboy said.
"This Kent guy better be worth it." Gio said as he struggled to hold on.
Just outside the tower, Kent, Klarion and Abra Kadabra approached the tower which opened immediately for him.
"The tower may not appreciate trespassers." Kent points out.
"Mute." Putting a device around his neck, Kent was silenced.
Entering a large sitting room the projection of Kent appeared.
"Hello, Kent. How unlike you to bring guests to the tower especially one with such potent mystic power." It said.
Suddenly Kent's collar beeped and began talking for him.
"My friends came to help me." The collar said in Kent's voice.
Raising an eyebrow the projection opened up another door for them to walk through.
Back in the trapdoor, M'Gann was beginning to sweat.
"Come on guys pull him up." Leo said as he, Raph and Gio pulled the chain upwards to get Superboy further away from the lava.
Looking around Donnie noticed M'Gann descending down.
"Hey what are you doing?" Donnie asks.
"Having trouble maintaining altitude. I'm so hot." M'Gann said.
"You certainly are." Wally flirts.
"Are you being serious?" Gio glares.
"Wally!" Artemis scolds.
"Hey, inches above sizzling death, I'm entitled to speak my mind." Wally said.
"Hey maybe instead of fighting we should try figuring out how to escape before we're all fried." Leo said.
"Agreed, my physiology, and M'gann's, are susceptible to extreme heat. We must climb out quickly." Kaldur said.
"You're telling us this now?" Raph said.
"Hello, M'gann. We never truly answered the question. Red Tornado sent us to see if Mr. Nelson and the helmet were safe." M'Gann calls out and instantly the floor closed over the lava allowing them to drop down.
"That was way too close." Superboy said.
"What the heck? This platform is cool but on the other side is lava." Donnie said feeling the floor.
"Don't worry, M'galicious, I gotcha." Wally said helping M'Gann stand up straight.
"Enough! Your little impress-M'gann-at-all-costs game nearly got us all barbequed." Artemis blames.
"When did this become my fault?" Wally asks.
"When you said we were all true believers." Gio said.
"Yeah everyone heard Donnie say there was no such thing as magic." Raph blames.
"Yeah…hey!" Donnie said.
"I bet even you don't believe in magic either!" Gio accuses.
"Wally, you don't believe?" M'Gann asks as they all looked at him.
"Fine. Fine. I lied about believing in magic. But magic is the real lie. A major load." Wally said.
"He's not wrong there." Donnie said.
"Oh no you too Donnie." Raph said.
"Hey I'm with Wally. Everything can be explained by Science." Donnie said.
"Wally, Donatello, I studied for a year at the Conservatory of Sorcery in Atlantis. The mystic arts created the skin-icons that power my water-bearers." Kaldur explains.
"Dude, you ever hear of bioelectricity?" Wally points out.
"Heck people used to think Fire was magic." Donnie adds.
"Says the talking turtle and guy who can break the sound barrier in sneakers." Artemis points out.
"Hey I'm this way because of Mutagen." Donnie said.
"I recreated Flash's laboratory experiment and here I am. Everything can be explained by science." Wally said.
"Ugh give up guys you're arguing with stubborn know it alls." Gio groans.
"Hey!" Both snapped at him.
"Let's test your theories, shall we?" Kaldur said grabbing the trapdoor.
"No wait don't!" Donnie yells but it was too late.
As Kaldur opens the hatch snow came out instead of lava.
"Snow?" Wally said confused.
"Ha ha! You both were wrong!" Mikey points.
"Shut up Mikey." Artemis said.
"Sorry." Mikey said as they climbed in to see a large snowy mountain range.
"First lava, and now snow. Donnie you ever get tired of being wrong?" Raph asks.
"A little." Donnie admits.
"I don't know why you felt the need to chime in. I had it completely under control. It was so easy." Artemis said.
"Oh please. You told 3 morons to shut up. I do that at least 5 times a day." Gio said.
"Why you." Artemis growls.
"Talk to me when you actually do something worth bragging about." Gio said.
"Hey what's that?" Leo points ahead to reveal Kent's staff floating in front of them.
"Ooh, maybe it's Nelson's magic wand." Wally mocks.
"Magic wand?! I got it!" Mikey said but Leo smacks his hand out of the way. "Ow."
"Don't touch. Bad things happen when you touch things." Leo said.
"Name one time." Mikey said.
"Every time." Leo, Raph, Donnie and Gio said.
"I said one." Mikey whines.
"I got it." Gio and Artemis said grabbing it at the same time causing it to glow. "Hey I can't let go!"
Lifting them up into the air both teens disappeared.
"No Gio! He was so young!" Mikey panics.
"He's not dead you moron…he's not right?" Raph asks looking to the others.
"No I can sense they're still in the tower somewhere." M'Gann said.
"Well then let's find them and fast." Leo said.
"Hang on Gio! Whatever you do stay away from the light!" Mikey yells.
In another part of the tower, Kent was leading Klarion and Abra Kadabra through a wild and crazy staircase room.
"Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?" Klarion whines acting like a little kid.
"Tell us how to find the helmet." Abra Kadabra orders taking the collar off of Kent so he could speak.
"Can't. Having too much fun." Kent smirks.
Growling Abra Kadabra takes out a wand and zaps Kent.
"Still having fun?" Abra Kadabra mocks.
"I am. I am. Zap him again. Or dump him off the side and watch him splat." Klarion laughs when Teekyl meows telling him something. "Ah, yes, yes, I suppose we might still need him."
Back in the artic room, Wally, M'Gann, Superboy, Kaldur, Leo, Donnie, Raph and Mikey were on the lookout for Gio and Artemis.
"Gio! Gio come on bro! If you can hear me say something!" Mikey yells.
"It's hard to ignore that's for sure." Raph said as Wally super sped ahead.
"Artemis!" Donnie calls out looking in another direction.
"What's with Donnie? He and Wally were acting so stubborn back there?" M'Gann asks.
"Because nerd talk is all Donnie has. He loses that and he's miserable." Raph sad.
"Excuse me?" M'Gann asks confused.
"The only thing Donnie ever had that made him different from us was his brains. Science was what made him really stand out from the rest of us. I guess Magic is kind of takes that away from him." Leo said.
"Sounds like Wally. Wally uses his understanding of science to control what he cannot comprehend. Acknowledging the existence of magic would be to relinquish the last vestige of that control." Kaldur assumes.
"Wow maybe those two are more similar than we thought." Mikey said.
"Yeah I guess so." M'Gann said.
Looking at the turtles and her friends, M'Gann smiles realizing there were definitely a lot of reasons they all got along and why some fought so much.
"We really are quite the team." She mumbles softly.
In the other area, Artemis and Gio teleported onto a staircase right above Klarion, Kent and Abra Kadabra.
"Whoa what's this?" Gio asks grabbing a Tonfa.
"Abra Kadabra." Artemis growls grabbing her crossbow.
Seeing them Kent grins. "Well, would you look at that."
Breaking away, Kent flew towards his cane which he used to cut himself free.
"In here." Using his magic, Kent made a magic doorway for them to run through.
"No, no, no! I want that helmet. I want it, I want it, I want it!" Klarion snaps firing a blast of dark magic at them but the door closed.
Catching their breath the three of them found themselves in a magic elevator.
"I'm Kent Nelson by the way." Kent introduced.
"Yeah we figured." Gio said as Artemis elbows him.
"I'm Artemis. This annoying ninja is Giovanni." Artemis said.
"Well, Artemis, we're up against an opponent with tremendous mystic power." Kent warns.
"Let me guess the little kid who was yelling about a helmet?" Gio assumes.
"He obviously meant Abra Kabdabra." Artemis scolds.
"Nope he's right." Kent said.
"He is?" Artemis said as Gio smirks.
"I don't even know these people and I can tell who the real threat is." Gio mocks.
"Abra is a charlatan but Klarion the witch-boy the kid with the cat, he's an actual lord of chaos. The ultimate enemy of a lord of order like Dr. Fate." Kent explains.
"But aren't you Dr. Fate?" Gio points.
"Oh, no, not me. I'm just an old coat Fate used to put on until my wife, Inza, convinced me there could be more to life. Ah. She was a real pistol, that Inza." Kent said showing them his pocket watch.
"She's very pretty." Gio said.
"Yeah she was. Anyhoo, Klarion's after the helmet. If he gets his sticky little mitts on it, he'll turn the planet into his own personal playground of pandemonium." Kent explains.
"And that's why he kidnapped you 23 days ago?" Gio assumes.
"Correct again kid." Kent said as the elevator came to a stop.
"See it's all about knowing what to ask and what to say." Gio smirks.
"Yeah well how about knowing when to stop talking?" Artemis scolds.
As the door opens the three of them approached a giant bell.
Looking to his right a door opens on the ceiling and seconds later Mikey fell out first before Leo, Raph, Donnie, Wally, Superboy and Kaldur fell on top of him with M'Gann lowering herself down with her flight.
"Friends of yours?" Kent asks as Artemis ran to help them.
"And family." Gio admits.
"Really? That's surprising." Kent said.
Suddenly a magic attack narrowly missed them. Looking up they saw Abra Kadabra and Klarion heading towards them.
"Better than the company you keep." Gio said.
"You got me there. Come on." Kent said leading him to the bell.
Heading towards the group, Abra Kadabra fired from his wand but the Turtles were too agile for him.
"Missed me missed me now you gotta kiss Donnie." Mikey said.
"What?! I don't wanna kiss him!" Donnie said.
"Focus guys!" M'Gann said as they dodged fire.
Grabbing his cane, Kent banged it against the bell making it ring.
As the bell glowed Kent and Gio entered it with Klarion following behind.
Appearing on the roof of the tower, they see a floating helmet hovering above them.
Kent reached out to grab it when a magical blast struck him in the chest.
"Mr. Nelson!" Gio said catching him.
Chanting a spell, Kent slams his cane down and makes a barrier around them and the helmet.
"No!" Klarion yells in anger.
"Not bad for a former Dr. Fate huh? The bubble will give you just enough time to do what you need to do." Kent said weakly.
"To do what?" Gio asks confused.
"Have a little faith." Kent said before closing his eyes and dropping his pocket watch.
"Mr. Nelson? Mr. Nelson? Come on Kent don't do this." Gio said trying to shake him awake but it was useless.
Frowning, Gio hung his head. Kent Nelson was no more.
Before he could give him the respect, he needed Klarion fired multiple magical attacks at him.
"I want that helmet and I want it now!" Klarion yells.
Looking up at the helmet Gio remembered Kent had tried to reach for it. That helmet was important to everyone here, but why?
'Gio we're in trouble!' M'Gann calls out using her telepathy. 'Tell Kent we need Dr. Fate!'
Down below Abra Kadabra trapped all their friends making them unable to help.
It was then that Gio realized what he had to do.
"A test of faith." Gio said as he turned so his back was Klarion and he couldn't see his face.
Taking off his hood, Gio reached up and grabbed the helmet.
"Hey, dumb kid. You put that on, you may never get it off." Klarion warns destroying the barrier.
"Here goes nothing!" Gio said putting the helmet on his head causing a bright light to engulf him.
Suddenly Gio found himself in an empty room.
"What the heck? Where am I? What kind of freaky magic is this?" Gio asks looking around.
"Well nice to see you know what you're dealing with." Kent said appearing behind.
"Kent? I-I'm so sorry." Gio apologized.
"Don't blame yourself kid. I was over 100 years old. I knew my time was almost up. Soon as this little brouhaha is over my spirit will ascend, and I'll be reunited with my beloved Inza." Kent explains.
"Uh okay…wait if you're here does that mean I'm dead too?" Gio asks in a scared tone.
"No you're still alive but your soul no longer controls your body. See, we're inside the helmet. You put it on, and my soul got sucked in. Probably because I spent so many years serving its master." Kent explains.
"Master?" Gio said confused.
"Nabu, the real Dr. Fate. One of them lords of order I told you about. He's the guy controlling your body now. Wanna see?" Kent said gesturing across.
Outside the helmet we see Dr. Fate creating a giant ankh deflecting all of Klarion's attacks.
"Give it up, Nabu! Order went out of style in the 20th century." Klarion declares.
"This battle is pointless. You sought to take the helmet before it gained a host but you are too late." Dr. Fate declares.
"Shut it you old fart!" Klarion snaps going on the attack.
As two large pillars of bricks flew at him, Dr. Fate used his magic to escape.
Creating an ankh Fate fires it at Klarion forcing his cat to flee as he took all the damage.
Disappearing, Klarion reappeared behind Fate and zaps him with a powerful attack.
Inside the helmet, Gio screams in pain dropping to his knees.
"What happened?" Gio groans in pain.
"This is your body after all. Any damage Nabu takes you take as well." Kent explains.
"Then let me help. With Dr. Fate's power and my reflexes there's no way he can hit us." Gio offers taking off his shield ready to fight.
"Sorry, kid, doesn't work that way but you can see why I haven't put on the helmet in 65 years." Kent said.
"So what happens if Fate loses this fight?" Gio asks hating this more and more.
"You'll meet Inza before I do." Kent states.
Outside the helmet, Dr. Fate was struggling against Klarion.
Creating a barrier, Dr. Fate blocks Klarion's attacks but Klarion easily destroys it and blasts Dr. Fate to the ground.
"You're out of practice, Nabu. And that pathetic host body has no affinity for the mystic arts." Klarion mocks when Teekyl meows. "I am paying attention, you stupid cat. In case you hadn't noticed, I'm winning."
Seeing this, Dr. Fate realized he had a chance.
Mustering up his magic, Fate creates a powerful explosion taking out Klarion's attacks.
"It is difficult for a lord of order or chaos to maintain a presence on the physical plane." Dr. Fate said taking flight.
Klarion tries to shoot him out of the sky but Fate dodges them all with ease.
"I am bound to the helmet and use a human host but that is not your way." Dr. Fate points out.
"You're babbling." Klarion growls.
"Am I?" Holding out his hands, Dr. Fate fires a powerful beam.
Thinking it was for him, Klarion made a barrier to deflect but the attack flew past him and struck Teekl making the cat hit the ground hard.
"Teekl!" Klarion gasps. "I can't believe you would assault a defenseless pussycat!"
"We both know that creature is no cat, witch boy. And without your familiar, you have no anchor in this reality." Dr. Fate threatens as Klarion began to fade away.
"Bully! Killjoy! Geezer!" Klarion insults as Dr. Fate holds out his hands and attacks. "Holy carp!"
Narrowly dodging the attack Klarion grabs his cat.
"We're out of here!" Klarion said teleporting out of there.
Down below, Abra Kadabra had the team trapped in his fake magic, but before he could finish them off an ankh appeared behind him stripping him of his powers and most of his clothes leaving him in just his underwear.
"What?" He gasps as Raph and Superboy glared at him.
"Payback time." Raph said as they both knocked him with a double punch.
In the helmet, Gio was happy at his victory.
"Man Dr. Fate kicked butt." Gio smiles before noticing Fate wasn't moving anymore. "So uh why isn't Nabu taking off the helmet?" Gio asks.
"Because the Earth needs Doctor Fate." Turning around Gio and Kent saw the helmet floating behind them. "I will not release this body."
"Wait what?! No this is my body! He can't do that! What about my brothers? Master Splinter? You can't just take me away from my family just like that!" Gio snaps.
"Can but shouldn't. Nabu he is not the right candidate. His soul belongs to the world of combat not sorcery." Kent points out.
"True, but I do not appreciate being permanently hidden away useless and isolated for decades at a time. Chaos must not be allowed to reign." Nabu orders.
"That won't happen again. The boy will take the helmet and make sure you're put to good use." Kent said.
"Yeah my buddy Wally loves holding onto souvenirs. I'll give him the helmet and make sure someone finds it." Gio vows.
"And in the meantime, I'll stick around, keep you company." Kent offers.
"Wait what about your wife? Don't you want to see her?" Gio asks.
"Don't sweat it, kid I'll spend a few millennia here, then see Inza. That's the great thing about eternity, it's eternal. Besides you got your own loved ones to return to." Kent smiles showing him the picture.
"The bargain is acceptable, but before my host leaves. There is something you must know." Fate declares.
"Now what?" Gio asks not really in the mood for other surprises.
"The second you put on my helmet I sensed something within you, something powerful. There is a power that lies dormant within you. A power that you must bring to the surface." Naby said.
"There is?" Gio said surprised.
"See for yourself." Nabu said as a large sphere of green energy appeared in front of it and radiated a power.
"Th-That's mine?" Gio said speechless.
"Well looks like you have some soul searching to do." Kent said putting his hand on his shoulder. "Some free advice before you go. Find your own little spitfire one who won't let you get away with nothing. Like that..."
Zooming out we see Fate remove the helmet revealing Gio.
Looking around he noticed Kent's body laying nearby.
Bending down Gio put Kent's pocketwatch back in his hands before cupping his hands together and saying a silent prayer for the fallen hero.
Back at Mount Justice, Wally puts the helmet of Fate on his souvenir shelf.
"Even if all that magic stuff was crazy at least Gio got me a cool souvenir." Wally smiles before walking away.
Back in the sewers we see Leo, Raph, Donnie and Mikey telling what happened to Splinter and April.
"Oh man you have no idea how cool Gio was. He was like I am the new Dr Fate! Feel my wrath! And then his was like boom! Boom! Boom! And that Klarion dude was bachoo! Bachoo! Aww you tried to kill my cat! I'm done!" Mikey said acting out the whole thing.
"Sounds like quite the trip." April giggles.
"Yeah it was pretty cool seeing that Tower." Leo said.
"And that Fate guy was pretty tough." Raph said.
"But what if Nabu wouldn't give Giovanni up? What would have happened?" Splinter asks.
"Easy, we'd hit bucket head so hard in the face the helmet would fly off." Raph said.
"You really think you guys could take on a Justice League member all by yourselves?" April asks.
"No one takes our brother from us." Leo said.
"Not even a so-called wizard." Mikey said.
"He was not a wizard. There's no way that was really magic." Donnie said.
"Oh yeah then what was it?" April asks.
"Well clearly, the helmet had a powerful energy that rewrote Gio's Brain waves and he was bio-scripted into becoming Dr. Fate for a few minutes." Donnie explains.
"Magic." Mikey said in an annoying tone.
"It was not magic!" Donnie snaps making them all laugh.
Around the corner, Gio couldn't help but smile as he overheard his family say what they would do for him.
"Hey." Turning around Gio saw Artemis walking over. "You never said what happened to you when you put on the helmet."
"Well let's see. I believe I was transported to the magical realm of Nonya." Gio recalls.
"Nonya?" Artemis raised an eyebrow.
"None of your business." Gio points out.
"What? Why you I outta." Artemis growls.
"If you're so desperate to find out why don't you go put the helmet on. I doubt Nabu would want an annoying girl like you for a host." Gio said.
"Compared to a guy like you I'm a goldmine." Artemis said.
"Yeah keep telling yourself that." Gio said.
As they both walked away in different directions both had similar thoughts in their minds as they kiss they shared played in their heads.
'You know who would be the cutest couple? You and Gio. You might have more in common than you realize.' M'Gann's words rang in Artemis' head making her blush.
'Find your own little spitfire one who won't let you get away with anything…like that Artemis girl.' Kent's rang in Gio's head making him blush.
'No way would I ever consider him/her.' Both thought at the same time.
