"We've noticed there are humans, teenagers, patrolling Sunnydale at night." The vampire informed his human master. "They started just a few days ago, but they appear organized. We've identified five pairs, each armed with guns and wooden bullets. Each pair has dusted a number of vampires using them."

"Wooden bullets? That's different and quite progressive of them." The human commented as he chose a cookie from a plate on his desk. "So they're targeting vampires."

"Yes, they haven't encountered any demons yet, but that doesn't mean they won't."

"Wooden bullets will affect some of them, but not all." The human used a wet nap to fastidiously clean his hands after finishing the cookie. "Have you identified any of the humans?"

"One of those patrolling was part of the Slayer's group, the one who patrols with him, fought with them when Nest, the vampire who called himself simply the Master, got the Hellmouth open briefly last May."

"Ah, so they're carrying on her work and have recruited others to help them. Good for them, as long as they stay out of my way. Any idea which of them is the seer?"

"No, none of them appear to be the seer. At least none of them are acting like they're following a vision. Each of them follows a patrol route. Granted, it's only been a few days."

"No, it makes sense. A seer is a valuable asset, why risk them out on patrol where they could be injured or killed. Which means the seer is safely kept in that club of theirs and I have no doubt they've updated their security to keep demons, as well as vampires, out. And I don't yet have the power to go after them myself."

"We could capture some of the patrolling humans, torture the information out of them." The vampire offered.

"As fun as that might be for both of us, if they're smart, then they'll have protections on themselves as well. And we can't forget, they might just be willing to die to keep the seer safe. The sacrifice to Lurconis was the last one I needed to do to any demon. There's nothing more I need to do until next year when I need to consume the contents of the Box of Gaverox. Until then there's nothing they can do to me directly. And I won't know until I do consume those contents if I have enough power to survive it. With one move these humans may well have stopped my plans in their tracks. I should kill them just for that, but I'd like to see what their plans might be. Are they just going to patrol or are they more ambitious?"

"Ambitious?"

"Whoever that demon was who told us about the seer, he said he wasn't on either their side or mine. So what is his agenda and why did he offer us information if he isn't in our side? Is he offering them information as well? Helping them as well in some way as a balance, playing one side against the other? I want this group observed for now, instruct our people not to approach them. And report to me instantly if this demon approaches them. And let's see if we can find out what this group's plans might be as well. Patrolling Sunnydale can't be all of it, can it? Building Sunnydale after all, isn't my end goal. Ruling the world as a god is." The vampire shivered at the upbeat smile on his master's face.

"Yes, master." The vampire agreed.

"And tell them to try not to get dusted by these kids, good help is so hard to find." Again that smile that made the vampire shiver. "And keep."

"Yes, sir."

"Dismissed."

The vampire left quickly and the human turned towards the other human who had been watching quietly the whole time. "Did he seem nervous to you? Why would he be nervous?"

"I couldn't say, sir." The shorter human replied.

"No, I suppose you couldn't. It's not like you could read his mind, now is it? Still, he shouldn't be so nervous, I'm a nice guy, aren't I?"

"As you say, sir." The small man replied.

"You can go, Allen. We have work tomorrow and we need to be rested. Keeping Sunnydale running is a neverending task, after all."

"Yes, sir." The smaller man left as quickly as the vampire.

"He seems nervous too." The human spoke aloud to the empty room. "Maybe they both could use a vacation." He walked over to a cabinet and opened the doors to it and gazed at the contents. "Nearly a century of work and sacrifices and it might all be for nothing. Just in case it is for nothing, I should leave a gift for those interfering teenagers, to thank them for ruining my hard work. But if my sacrifices aren't for nothing, then I'm sure, they'll make tasty treats. I'll be sure to eat them first."
