Val paced around the med bay, hating the waiting, hating knowing nothing. She tried her luck at sensing someone, anyone again, even Raditz's brother who was right in front of her, with no result. She checked the scouter chargers over, a little mad at herself that they were indeed broken by her hand. She swear under her breath, feeling a headache threatening to form. She gave up, settling herself in the chair in a huff. It was boring, giving her time to think, time to worry. She pulled the scouter out of her pocket, tempted once more to turn it on and use it.

She felt a sudden wave of unease go through her. She looked out the gapping hole in the ship that Vegeta had blasted a few days ago, seeing the sky go from overly bright to pitch black in a matter of seconds. She ran to the edge of the hole, looking out at the sky, not sure what to make of it. She almost feared a storm had come to end the world, like it was said one would destroy Aviary one day. She looked around, seeing an enormous green dragon lighting up the dark sky. She paused for a moment, blinking. She pawed at her pocket for her scouter, not able to get it out fast enough. She yanked it out and turned it on to see what was going on. She saw the energy of the dragon all right, flaring up. Then three energies, two stronger and one weaker right by it. Another one nearby the ship. Another one, had to be Raditz's brother, right on top of her. Then a strong one farther away that remained strong. Then a weak one doing nothing. Then a weak one that was fading. Lastly, a strong one that was fading. Then nothing. The scouter's battery ran dry and the screen blanked off.

She threw it on the ground, breaking it in her frustration. She found she liked the sound of it shattering, but nothing much else in this situation. She brought her hands to her face, drawing deep breaths, and trying to bit back panic. She counted and recounted the energies she saw before it died. Nail was still alive, but had to be the strong one that was fading. She could not remember which way it was though, could not be certain without a scouter. Yet the dragon balls were in use by the Earthlings right now. If he died after that, she would not be able to wish him back.

She looked back at the healing tank. Raditz's brother was breathing too heavily, face twisting too much. The mask was convex on his face, which was all wrong. He was not finished yet. "I have to go, I'm sorry-" she started. Then the machine sounded a warning tone. She rushed over to it, looking it over. It was flashing an error with the mask and asking if the machine should shut down or not. She overrode the error so it would not happen. Next, she spoke loudly right next to the glass. "Calm down and breathe normally. You'll break the mask if you breathe so damn hard and fast," she insisted. "If that breaks, then you're done in there whether you are fully healed or not. You need to relax and let yourself get fully healed."

He seemed to hear her, which she was grateful. His breathing slowed. The mask resumed its normal shape over his face. She looked over the controls, hitting a few buttons to up the oxygen for him a little to help him feel more settled. She tried to sense him again, but was unsuccessful. She went and sat back down on the chair, not quite able to get comfortable though. She sighed, mind turning over and over again.

She looked back out the hole when she saw the daylight again. She walked over to it, keeping an eye out on Raditz's brother. The sky was calm and bright again and the dragon was gone. She could only hope Vegeta could get his wish as well so he could end Frieza once and for all. She walked back into the room, arms crossed over her chest and watching the healing tank. She sat down on the chair again, slouching in it, still not comfortable. She tried to sense for something, anything now. It just felt like her mind was blank. She gave up, piecing over what Krillin said. Start with sensing someone familiar, someone you know.

She sat, lounging picking at her battle armor, annoyed that it fit so well, even the shoes. She could have worn these instead of her old clothes, but probably would have refused them anyway in spite. She went leaned back, cracking her upper back against the top of the chair. She jumped straight up when she heard a far off explosion. Raditz's brother was breathing too heavily again. She pounded on the glass to tell him off. She went to the hole, looking out, but not seeing anything in the direction of where the dragon had been. She saw one and heard a couple blasts coming from that direction. She heard Raditz's brother's breathing too heavy again. She threw him a look, but did not hear any alerts, so she left him be. She looked back out at the serene landscape, not a cloud in the sky nor a hint at what was going on. She picked up one foot and rotated her ankle absentmindedly, liking in annoyance how smoothly the boot conformed to her movements. She was frustrated by the lack of stimulus.

She heard and barely saw another explosion in the distance. She closed her eyes, trying to concentrate and find Vegeta, figuring she knew him the best. Nothing. She punched the nearby wall, which made her feel better even if it smarted her hand.

Her hand. She looked down at it, having not bothered to put the battle gloves back on. She remembered how her mother wore gloves, saying it was unsafe for others for her to take them off. They had been almost seamless against her skin that people who hardly knew her knew she wore them. Mother had said she had to be careful with her abilities and protect others around her by wearing them. Val had seen each of them bare before though, but not in the same instances. She looked down at her own hands, studying them more closely. The burn scares were still there, albeit more faded. She thought of Frieza, hoping whatever was happening included Vegeta killing him.

Frieza. She begrudgingly admitted to herself she knew him better than Vegeta even, having been trapped on the same ship as he was for years. She closed her eyes, hating the idea forming in her mind. She sensed for him, much to her chagrin. She felt a cold sweat suddenly wash over her, feeling the sense break through her mind. It was like a strong, radiating blaze that seemed to taunt her for lacking awareness of it for so long. She hated the feeling, but persisted in clinging to it. She used it to bridge, screwing her eyes shut tight. She found four energies near him that were not as strong, plus a quite weak one. She found she could even sense Raditz's brother near her. She tried to reach farther than that, trying to find Nail, but found her head started to pound in the effort. She gave up, just liking enough that she broke through and could sense those nearby. She thought more, rounding back to the thought that there were four strong energies, trying to figure out who the four were... Vegeta, Krillin, and Gohan had to be three of them. The fourth one... it had to be Nail, no one else on the planet had to be strong for that, not even the third Earthling somewhere else on this planet was said to be strong enough. She wondered if he had been wished back to health by the dragon balls after all.

She felt fidgety sensing a fight she could not see or hear, with so many blanks left in it, like who was who. She sensed two energy signatures wear down, but only to spike right back up one at a time oddly enough. The second one seemed to double when it bounced right back. Then Frieza's blazed up. Right afterwards, the weak one nearby blinked out abruptly. She felt sick to her stomach, trying to reach for it and being unable to find it. She wrapped her arms around her stomach, feeling cold to sense a death for the first time.

There was more fighting, stealing her attention back to those still living. She sensed the strongest of the four go against Frieza start to dwindle, slowly, painfully. She covered her mouth, sensing another death coming. She looked over to where the fighting was happening, and then back at Raditz's brother. She saw he was breathing heavy again. She went over to the glass, pounding on it to get him to calm down. It did not work. The machine sounded different from the earlier sound.

"You're healed!" she shouted at the glass, hands coming to the controls, trying to move at a rapid pace to get him out both quickly and safely. He did not wait for her to get him out though. He burst out of the healing tank and then through the roof, destroying the last remaining healing tank. "Fucking Saiyans," she swore, looking at the two destroyed healing tanks in the room. She flew off after him, with him leaving her behind.
