Two days later, Val looked over her day's schedule for filling in for Bulma for Capsule Corps while she was on bed rest. Val had not had any interaction with her nor Vegeta since then, being far too busy with the data they brought back from the Southern Capital. She had arrived earliest to the lab after some trouble sleeping, before others were scheduled to arrive, trying to knock out her own work before picking up some of the filling in work. She blinked at it, trying to figure out how exactly she was supposed to get it all done in a day. Let alone, how did Bulma manage to do all on the list plus the extra she knew was on Daiki's list. Val went through, rubbing her eyes as they blurred.
She jumped up when she saw Daiki rush into their lab that they shared with a few others. It was then that she realized she had been alone far longer than she should have been. Others, besides him, should have come in by now. "What's wrong?" she asked, hoping he was not about to try to dump any of his filling in schedule on hers.
He shook his head. "Junko's sick... heart virus... test," he wheezed out. "The others stayed home today to test and work from home."
Val pushed back from her table and leaned back against the chair heavily. "We just got back and we were all negative," she complained.
She looked over at Junko's desk, seeing it empty. She thought back to how the woman had taken an extra coffee two days ago, even giving Val herself a much needed cup when she boiled the shared kettle in the office as well. Val rose up and huffed, going over to the part of the shared office that held the needles and testing supplies. She pushed up her sleeves, tracing her scars on her left forearm to figure out where to slip the thicker needle in. She winced, managing it and testing it. She saw Daiki do the same as well. Both came back negative, much to her relief.
"That's a relief," he commented. "It's like we're still having to play hide and seek with it. And I don't want to get caught again."
"Guess it's never going to get me," she said softly to herself with a confident smile.
"Hmm?" Daiki asked, looking over at her.
She shook her head. "It didn't get me," she said louder. "I think it might be soon since you got sick last to catch it. Like you might have built up a natural immunity from it."
"Hopefully for me. Hopefully never for you," he said back. "I don't think I could handle Ms. Briefs's whole schedule on top of my own."
She nodded in agreement, moving back over to her computer. She pulled up the calendar on it, marking the new date she could go back to the mountain village and train with the others. It only had to be pushed back two more days, but it made her huff in frustration. She sat back down in her chair, slouching and crossing her arms over her chest. She leaned her head back, complaining, "it's so tiresome not training at all."
