Val got back to Capsule Corps, going straight to the research center to meet with Daiki.
"Miss Val, you're here," he said, sounding relieved. "I am having trouble trying to figure out your notes." He held up the print outs she had for the healing tank she was hoping he could make if she was not able to after tomorrow. "Some of this machinery, it would be impossible to make it with modern technology," he complained. "It's beyond me, so how can I possibly do it? Maybe Ms. Briefs can do it, but she's pulled back on her work because of her son..."
She hummed, looking at him. "Maybe you can figure it out one day," she encouraged.
He looked up at her, shaking his head. He nodded back down at the papers. "I know you wanted me to try to make something from the research you and Mr. Vegeta got from space now that the antivirals are done, but this is beyond me. Is there something easier to work on?"
She clicked her teeth, debating how to answer that would reveal anything about what could happen tomorrow. "It's a really good project for you to pursue," she answered. "I'm... working on something else."
"Why don't you pursue it though? What have you been working on since the antivirals? What was the project you and Ms. Briefs were doing part time together?" he asked.
She thought about the project with Bulma she had done, at Vegeta's suggestion. "It's... some battle armor," she answered.
He blinked up at her. "Why? Is something going to happen?" he asked, glancing briefly at her bracelets.
She hummed, running a hand over the crack in the one bracelet. "I... can't tell you..." she answered.
His eyes went wide. "Is something going to happen? Do you know something from the future? Or space? A fight? Why would you two work on battle armor otherwise?"
She looked away from him, not sure how to answer. "Just don't give up the project," she said. "I can try to help you with it if I can later," she promised vaguely. He sighed, but said nothing. She looked at her phone, seeing no messages. "Oh, Bulma messaged me. I need to go talk to her straight away," she excused.
"Ok," he said tiredly. "Maybe you can help me next week?"
"Maybe," she answered. She turned and walked away a bit from him. She thought about what was supposed to happen tomorrow, down in the Southern Capital. The Southern Capital. She stopped, turning back. "You still have family, in the Southern Capital, right?" she asked.
He nodded, "yeah."
She gritted her teeth, debating what to do or say. "They should take a trip... come visit you and your husband," she said as vaguely as she could.
"Oh, maybe next week, yeah-" he started.
"Today," she rushed out. "By this evening."
He blinked up at her. "Why?" She shook her head, not answering.
He looked paler, more nervous. He took his phone out of his pocket, starting dial a number and make a phone call. Even from the distance between them, she could tell his hands were shaking. She left him at that, turning to walk away.
Val left him, stomach twisting a little at revealing even that to Daiki, but feeling it was the right call to make. She went to Bulma's lab, finding her there with Trunks in a play pen nearby.
"Oh, hey, you finish with Krillin early today?" Bulma said, twirling around in her chair by her research station.
Val nodded. "Daiki kept texting me about the healing tanks, so I came back early."
Bulma hummed at that. "You know, I'm not supposed to die tomorrow though, so maybe I can take a look at it now that we finished... this..." she said, standing up and going over the nearby counter. She held up a suit of battle armor, based off of the Litt style. "Vegeta's is done. He said he'll come pick it up this evening," she said with a small smile Val did not quite understand.
Val stepped over, snagging up her own and holding it up. "I hope Earth materials work as Litt materials does," she commented. She laid the armor down flat, running her hand over the Capsule Corp logo on the left side of the chest. She smiled down at that, tracing the C within a C. The white, black, and blue colors throughout the her custom made armor matched the Capsule Corp's colors as well. "I wasn't sure Earth would strong enough or stretchy enough to fight in."
Bulma nodded over at her. "Earth has better stuff than you realize. Someone could shoot you point blank with a gun in that armor and it wouldn't penetrate it," she said, nodding over at Val's armor. She mimed a shooting motion. "You still want me to help you get ready at like 7 A.M. tomorrow?"
Val nodded. "If you don't mind," she said.
"It is a little early, don't you think?" Bulma asked curiously.
Val shook her head, thinking fast, "I want to have a big breakfast afterwards, just in case."
Bulma shrugged, taking the idea in stride. "Ah, smart. A last meal so to speak," she teased. Val nodded. "Sometimes you can eat almost half as much as Vegeta," she teased. Bulma set the battle armor down and went back over to her computer. "But while I've got you hear and alive," she clicked on a few things. "Can I ask a few questions about some of this?" She pulled up some of the research that Vegeta had taken.
"Of course," Val said, pulling up a chair next to her.
Before they could start though, Trunks started fussing in the play pen nearby. Bulma hummed. "Pick him up, he's bored. He's his aunty."
"We're not sisters," Val said, sounding confused.
Bulma rolled her eyes patiently. "Close enough as friends with us. Especially with you being forced to be space best friends with a certain grumpy Saiyan we both know," she joked and smiled. The she frowned, face scrunched up a little as she studied Val's face a little.
Val went to ask what she was staring at, but she stopped as Trunk fussed some more. Val stepped over and picked up the infant. He leaned against her as she sat back down. His hand started to tug on her necklace, so she stashed it under her shirt. His distraction made her forget the question she wanted to ask. He sat there with the two of them contentedly while Val went over the what information Bulma pulled up and asked about on the computer.
