Chapter 8: Countermeasure

Earth 5: Sherman

As a half-human, half-demon hybrid created from the essence of one of the most heinous evil beings to have ever plagued the universe, Ashi was no stranger to extraordinary things; therefore, she might as well have considered dealing with supernatural or science fiction-related issues to be normal. She had only just woken up from what appeared to be a resurrection when she came across some young people who were being attacked by some extremely dangerous and armed creatures. She had assumed that she would be the only one to defend the kids, but she was surprised to see how strong and capable they were. She was cautious not to inform them about her precise origins because she wasn't sure if she could trust them totally, at least not yet, but after neutralizing the threat, they chose to give her a brief explanation of who they were and what they could do.

Ashi rubbed her chin as she processed the facts, saying, "So, if I'm correct."

Ashi glances at Rex first.

"You can control machines and create weapons from any part of your body," Ashi stated.

Ashi then looks toward Zak.

Ashi remarked, "You are a scientist of some kind."

Ashi turned to stare at Max and Steel.

"You two share a symbiotic link that allows you both to control a powerful energy," Ashi responded.

Ashi looked up at Jake.

Ashi replied, "You have the ability to change into a dragon."

Ashi raised a low glance at Manny.

"You possess the ability to call on the supernatural powers of the tiger," Ashi replied.

Next, Ashi confronted Marco and Star.

"The blonde girl is a magical princess from another dimension, whereas he is your male friend," Ashi replied.

Everyone didn't notice Star's blush, and Ashi turned to face Steven after that.

Ash stated, "You are half Gem and half Human."

Ashi then turned to face June.

Ashi remarked, "You are a guardian of the magical world."

Finally, Ashi confronts Aang.

"And you are called the Avatar, master of four elements. Lastly, as you claim, you're all from different universes." Ashi replied.

Steel said, "Got it every single one, somebody give her a prize."

Since Ashi has experience traveling through time, it stands to reason that alternate dimensions are both plausible and not confusing to her. Subsequently, Star walked over and rested her elbow on Ashi's shoulder.

With an expected smile, Star said, "So, now that you know about us, why not share with us about you? How did you do that whole shapeshifting thing?"

Ashi arched an eyebrow and took Star's arm off her shoulder.

"I am not comfortable answering it. I simply wish to move forward." Ashi responded.

Star kept prodding Ashi to open up, saying, "Oh come on. Tell us your secrets. Come on, come on, come on. Tell us what it is that you don't want us to know."

Pulling Star away, Marco said, "Star, that's enough, you're pressuring her."

June decided to talk to Ashi after that.

"Sorry about that, Star may have been a little overreacting because of how you did that changing thing," June said.

Ashi had no other option but to move away from Star.

"It's fine. All that you need to understand is that I have supernatural abilities. Everything beyond that is private." Ashi said with a lot of sternness.

Not wanting to offend her, Steven said, "Hey, it's cool, we don't want to be open-minded about your abilities, we get it."

Rex stated, "Yeah, I'm with Steven. It's your business, not ours. There's no reason to make a whole big deal about it, I mean Hey we all just took down alien bad guys, we can each other."

Ashi had to acknowledge that this was true, even though he was younger than her, and they had chosen to battle alongside her in order to defeat these strange enemies.

Subsequently, Ashi thought of something; she wasn't sure if it was possible, but it wouldn't hurt to ask just in case.

"Tell me, have any of you seen a man this tall? Dark-haired, tied into a bun, dressed in a white gi, and carrying a sword hidden in a black scabbard?" Ashi asked, putting her palm in the air.

Ashi gave an in-depth description of Jack in the hopes that perhaps one of them could have seen him.

Everyone glanced at each other, wondering whether there was someone they recognized, but judging by their bewildered looks, it seemed none of them knew who Ashi was referring to.

Max apologized, scratching his nape, and said, "Sorry Ashi, can't say we don't."

"It sounds like you're talking about a samurai, but I would definitely remember having met one of those," Zak responded.

Zak recalls an incident in which his family dealt with Shoji Fuzen, even though it didn't matter because he wasn't a true samurai.

With a disappointed expression, Ashi looked down; it appeared that her search for Jack would take a lot longer. But when she heard something beeping, her disappointment gave way to interest.

Ashi asked, "What...is that?" as everyone in the group turned to face Zak and Steel. Steel's solitary optic and Zak's device both beeped, suggesting that they both realized what this meant.

Steel finally, tiredly, said, "Finally! Thought We'd never crack the code."

"Okay, let's see what we can find about this thing," Zak stated as he started to type while maintaining a serious expression.

Marco decided to voice what was in everybody's thoughts.

Marco asked, "Um, you guys, wanna clue us in?"

"Yeah, I'm with Marco, can you tell us what it is" Aang replied.

Steel pointed to their prisoner and asked, "You remember when we took down this one before meeting Ashi? Well since then, Zak and I have been attempting to hack through his technology, which has been pretty hard with all the firewalls they have. I meant I know these guys were trying to kill us and all, however, you should see the kind of implants they have."

Max asked, "Implants? What kind of implants?"

Zak took over and gave them an explanation.

"Whatever these creatures are, their whole organic bodies have been radically fused with cybernetic technology that we haven't seen before, their entire forms could barely be considered as living anymore, more circuits than flesh blood," stated Zak.

Zak and Steel looked over the gathered data.

"It appears that they have this linked neural network that connects their cerebral cortex and vital signs through one single signal to more effectively plan their attacks, and this signal additionally permits them to alert more of their own kind of their current condition and how to respond, perhaps as a means of launching a counter-offensive," Zak stated.

With agreement, Steel responded, "Exactly."

Star casts a bewildered look at Rex.

Star questioned, "What did he just say?"

Rex could only shrug in answer, knowing that Star wouldn't understand what he was saying and would be confused.

Steel noticed that Zak's eyes were gradually growing more and more wide in what seemed to be alarm as they totaled up the information.

Zak said to them, "Guys, you might want to come over and see this."

And they all did, Ashi included, though only because her curiosity overcame her. They noticed a big blinking red dot.

"If I'm reading this right, a message is being delivered to this very world," Zak replied.

"From where exactly?" Max questioned, feeling uneasy.

With wide eyes, Zak turned to face them all and whispered, "From the source."

Before anything more could be said, Sherman was suddenly filled with a brilliant crimson light that nearly blinded everyone nearby, including the group itself. They all turned to protect their eyes from the light's intensity, but they could still tell it originated in the mountains.

Rex said, "What the heck is that?!"

(The anime's scenes are all the same, but this time, Ultra Legion characters including Ben, Rex, Zak, Max, Steel, Ladybug, Cat Noir, and others have taken their place. Additionally, the scenes are from Sherman. Ben also turns to Alien X in the same way that Yuji did when he turned to Sukuna, but this time, Alien X is covered in black, much like in the first Alien Force intro.)

Shortly before the light goes on...

Now that the small army of Novatrons was no longer a threat, the recently formed gang of heroes had some free time to reflect on their circumstances. After Ladybug and Cat Noir finished their transformation and returned to their disguises, Ben stepped in the Novatron Hunter and used his Omnitrix to scan the alien. Nothing emerged from the Omnitrix's database when it finished scanning the Novatron.

The Omnitrix said, "Error, No database record".

"Great, which means these guys are not from my universe, but how do they know my name?" Ben said.

Samurai Jack remained mute while Danny engaged in a lengthy conversation with Kim Possible, Ron Stoppable, and Randy Cunningham—the covert ninja who was still wearing his costume. Jenny watched the four of them with patience. Although it seemed the three time masters were not overstating things, Jack was still quite amazed by how strong and skillful these young people were, and they needed to pay close attention to the threat that was still there. He was aware from firsthand experience that the fight is not truly won until the threat has been neutralized.

Danny questioned Randy, "So Jake is here too?"

"Yeah, he was with me, and two of us were about to go to your place, however we got separated when a portal appeared in front of us," Randy responded.

Kim wondered, "You think he might have gotten lost somewhere when you guys went through that portal?"

In response, Randy said, "Hopefully not.

"Look, If we're going to have to find a way to get home, we're going to require all of us," Danny responded.

Ben stopped scanning the alien and turned off the Omnitrix scanning mode before moving toward Danny and the others.

"You're not the only one who has a missing friend; me as well. I'm looking for my four friends, and we are going to find a way home," Ben replied.

Ben saw the looks they were giving him.

Ben asked, "What? Is there something on my shirt?"

"I'm sorry, who the juice are you again?" Randy said, blinking.

Ben replied, "Oh right, I'm Ben Tennyson, I'm a hero from my reality."

"Oh right, like that magnet dude, Armadillo guy, and speedy dinosaur. So what, you're some sort of magic shapeshifter?" Ron asked, recalling Ben's transformation.

"Not magic, exactly. Science, alien science," Ben answered, crossing his arms.

Ben revealed the Omnitrix while removing the jacket sleeve from his left arm.

"This device on my left wrist is called the Omnitrix, it's encoded with the DNA of over a million aliens, this thing can transform me into any aliens that I want," Ben said.

Randy was filled with amazement as he gazed at the Omnitrix.

"Dude, that is so Bruce! So you can really transform into anything you want with that thing on your wrist?" Randy replied.

Ben smiled and covered his left arm's sleeves, saying, "Like tons of them, I've been doing this whole hero gig since I was 10."

Jenny chose to speak up as well, just a little more timidly, saying, "Um, excuse me."

Everyone looked at Jenny.

"My name's XJ9. and please, you could simply call me Jenny," Jenny responded,

"So you're a robot?" Danny asked Jenny as he approached her.

Jenny touched her hip with her hand.

Jenny laughed a little and replied, "I prefer robots that were built for just the purpose of fighting criminals. But yeah, unless of course, you know a different robot who kicks butt."

Danny laughed a little with Jenny and said, "Heh, can't say that I did."

Danny extended his hand to shake Jenny's.

"I'm Danny Phantom, we appreciate your help," Danny said.

Jenny shook Danny's hand with pleasure.

"Aren't we a strange group?" Cat Noir asked, joining them along with Ladybug.

Then everyone looked at Ladybug and Cat Noir.

"For the time being, you can simply refer to me as Cat Noir, and this gorgeous girl is Ladybug." Cat Noir said as he introduced Ladybug and himself to everyone.

Ladybug nudged Cat Noir angrily and said, "I can make my own introductions, thanks."

Regarding their cover clothing, Ron remarked, "What's up with the outfits?"

Kim gave her chin a tap.

"Let me guess, hide your secret identity?" Kim said with a wry look.

Glancing at Kim, Marinette responded, "Yeah, how'd you know?"

Kim questioned, "Why else would you pair that jacket alongside those pants?" pointing out Marinette's glaring stylistic flaws.

Marinette grimaced and agreed, "Ugh, you are so right, I knew I would have stayed in my suit."

Then Marinette saw that everyone else was staring at her and Cat Noir.

Adrien approached her and spoke. "I think they would like us to explain ourselves to them."

Not used to having so many eyes on her, Marinette chuckled uncomfortably and replied, "Oh. OH! Right, right of course."

"Sorry, well, I'm Ladybug, Cat Noir's partner, and we're heroes as well, and we also live in the same reality as Ben," Marinette said, gesturing to Cat Noir and Ben.

Ron observed them intently, almost like an inspector, and said, "Hmm."

"So, you guys are like some superhero couple?" Ron remarked.

Marinette's eyes grew wide, and Adrien grinned brightly.

Randy said to Ron, "I totally called that. I mean it was pretty obvious."

"What?!" Marinette shouted, seemingly disgusted.

Not to be confused for Cat Noir's girlfriend, Marinette said, "No, no, no, no. He isn't my boyfriend. Cat and I are just partners in saving the day, and that's all."

As Cat Noir showed them his ring, Marinette pointed to her earrings and explained, "The two of us harness magic powers from these two objects. I can create whereas he can destroy."

Jack found these young heroes to be quite intriguing—a boy who can change into an alien using a device attached to his left wrist, another who has spectral abilities, two skilled fighters, costumed magic users, a shinobi who defends righteousness, and a machine with feelings.

"Pardon me," Jack said.

All turned to face the warrior that most people called Jack.

Jack bowed and said, "I apologize for not introducing myself to you all earlier. My name is Jack."

Jack pointed at the strewn-about bodies of the Novatrons and remarked, "And there's a matter of great importance we must speak of, regarding them."

Jack said, "Tell me, how did all of you arrive here?"

Jenny responded, "Well, I was talking to my mom when suddenly a portal appeared and sucked me in, and the last thing I knew, I ended up here."

As he started thinking about it, Ben said, "The same thing happened with any of us."

"We each come from parallel Earths, and on each of our Earths, these portals sucked us all through, and the last thing we know, we ended up here in the same city. When you put it all together, it seems like some sort of invasion is taking place. Something tells me this isn't some coincidence," Ben said.

Jack nodded and said, "Indeed."

As he briefed Ben and the others on the threat, Jack stated, "These dark forces came to this world in danger because they're the first target by these beings who called themselves The Novatrons but then they'll target our Earths as well after they are done invading this Earth."

"You see, I come from a faraway land where our technology is not as advanced as this city. One day, I was selected by three deities alongside three-time masters. One, a specter who could age rapidly, another a human with a robotic hand that had a clock, and a girl wearing a rabbit costume." Jack continued.

Ben, Danny, Ladybug, and Cat Noir's eyes lit up when they recognized those descriptions.

"Wait, are you talking about Professor Paradox?" Ben asked.

Danny asked, "Clockwork?" as well.

Cat Noir and Ladybug said "and Bunnix" simultaneously.

Jack nodded and said, "Yes, those are their names."

"They explained to me that you four, along with everyone else here, have an important role in stopping these evil creatures. I had been sent to offer additional aid. One thing that I should mention is the fact that there should be more of you; I can only presume they must be somewhere else, which only makes it even more important as we must find them in order to save our worlds. If we are to win, it will require the combined efforts of all of us to stop them once and for all," Jack continued.

Before they could say anything further, the city was suddenly brightly lit, causing them to cover their eyes.

"What the juice?!" Randy exclaimed.

Before the light for a few minutes…

To say the Titan trio was nervous would be putting a fine point on it. The G3 engineers that Solomon summoned in were scouring the portal machine to see if there was a way to disable it before their fears were realized. All was quiet as they looked at the still-active portal, worried that more Novatron forces would be prepared to resume their attack from before. Regarding the head of G3, he received several updates from his guys; rumors of amazing things surfaced in the com connections, which, to be honest, were more reliable than the portal.

With his arms crossed, Lance stated, "I don't like it."

"You would think they would have started again by now, considering it's been hours," Lance remarked, squinting his eyes at the portal.

Octus stated, "A natural assumption. Even if this portal is alien in nature, I still haven't figured out how it works. However, my scans ought to be able to identify anything that could indicate a possible structural weakness, and if not, then maybe the portal's destination."

Ilana was afraid; she had witnessed firsthand how conflict degrades the beauty of a tranquil planet. The memory of the Mutraddi invasion of Galaluna was still vivid, and she would never forget seeing her home planet brutally attacked by a person she had once thought of as family. She and her pals had come to regard Earth as a second home, and they were dedicated to protecting both the local population and other residents, including their friends.

Ilana said, "Solomon."

Solomon then looked up at Ilana.

"If you don't mind me asking, but what are you looking at?" Ilana replied.

"While we've been waiting, I deployed several G3 drones to investigate if something is happening in the city. I instructed them to report any potential threats, and from what I can tell, it looks like there might have been specific incidents around Sherman; one man reported to the police that he was attacked by some creature." Solomon continued.

Ilana let out a gasp. She waved her hand to turn on her armor and said, "Oh no, we should go!"

Then, though, something occurred.

An engineer called out to Solomon, "Sir! Something's happening!"

The portal machine the engineer was pointing to started to glow. It then continued to shine even more, and a beam flew out of it that stayed in the sky until a bright, crimson flash appeared in front of them, forcing them to shield themselves. Sherman would have been visible to anyone in close enough proximity, and like Lance, Ilana, Octus, and their comrades, they would have needed to shield their eyes from the bright light. The light persisted for what seemed like an eternity before gradually dimming to reveal an unsettling sight. He was wearing what appeared to be battle armor, which was silvery black with gold stripes. He also had a bone crown on his head, broken weapons on his belt, and other items that were undoubtedly awarded from his numerous victims.

Not only that, but the rest of the gang of heroes saw it too, and began to feel uneasy.

"People of Earth 5. I am Zone, Supreme Emperor of the Novatrons, a race of technologically advanced beings that have bested many worlds. Your pitiful race has committed an indescribable crime against us, you dared to resist us and tried to annihilate us. For that inconceivable action, I am afraid you must bear the consequences, be thankful, humans, that you have the opportunity to witness the most advanced form of technology. However, there's a catch: there's a boy named Ben Tennyson who wields a device called the Omnitrix, a device that has the ability to transform the user into an arsenal of alien forms. I want that device in my hand, and I know he's here, but he destroys all my soldiers with the help of his allies, so if he and his allies surrender by my orders, then I shall stop ordering my soldiers to destroy this Earth settlement you call Sherman and the rest of this mudball will be spared, so think it over. But if he and his allies refuse to surrender, then this shall be the punishment for the entire planet," Zone stated.

Zone then snapped his fingers, causing a large number of ships, battle tanks, and warriors to materialize. They were all advancing on Sherman, prepared to destroy the town and all of its innocent inhabitants.

Cosmic Place

With a shake of his head, Clockwork remarked, "Typical of Zone, not afraid to shed the blood of innocent people."

Bunnix remarked, "You got that right, Zone is not afraid to destroy all innocent people," growing serious at what she had witnessed.

Odin and the other gods saw this new development and remarked, "Though this is just the beginning for our champions, for it might appear more assistance has to be acquired."

Paradox questioned, "Are you encouraging that they need more help? Not that I mind, yet we haven't encountered anyone else who could possibly lend their assistance at the moment."

A more spiritual voice said, "Perhaps I might be able to provide you with help."

A creature with a body that appeared to be made entirely of space, complete with stars and constellations, emerged into the immense void. Its crimson face revealed a long mouth with eyes, and its simian body gave it the appearance of a space gorilla.

"It's time to begin phase two," she uttered, her eyes glowing as it connected to a different reality—more precisely, the town she had formerly called home called Middleburg.
