Ch5 - Thoughts and Battles

Thanks! I'm glad the chapter was as good as I was hoping, and I hope this chapter is on par with it, despite the shorter length. Thanks for the reviews!

Yeah, I will have Shawn get a Fighting type, but not sure which 'mon it will end up being. Hisuian Braviary is not a bad idea honestly, I just forget about it cause I didn't think about everything I could do with the Arc DS. As for Reuniclus, I think it is the number one (non Legendary or Mythical) Psychic Pokemon in contention to be added to the team. Thank you for the reviews!

Firem78910

A Fairy type is likely to happen (hint: Eeveelution) but I did not think about Hisuian Lilligant. In all honesty I didn't really like Hisuian Lilligant like that, but, like most things, if the people want it I will add it. The scenario isn't bad, but I feel that's too cliche, to just give Shawn Hisuian Pokemon through an event that likely didn't happen in the Anime, especially since Im trying to stay as close to the Anime as possible. I would rather have Shawn catch a Pokemon in its lowest evolutionary form and train it, then have it evolve after Shawn has had it, to make more of a connection with the Pokemon, even if it isn't a special connection or a well-written one. Thank you for the reviews!

Flame punch

Holy! Thank you, but you did not have to find that for me, as I already did my research on the effects of Sandstorm. I'm only not sure on the Pokemon that would fit on the team. I know Sand Veil Garchomp was crazy, Gliscor was an insane wall, Sand Rush Excadrill was used in Ubers, and TTar and Hippowdon were the main setters. Despite knowing some Pokemon, I don't know if any of them would fit especially well on the team or as backups. I also know that Landorus T was insanely broken, despite never actually playing competitively, so it probably won't happen unless Shawn is just OP and going around catching Legendaries or something. I don't blame you for Sand being your favorite, cause it was pretty crazy in Gen 5. Thank you for the continued reviews and the advice!

pratikchakraborty911

Yeah, Mienfoo/Mienshao are very uncommon as far as I know with fics, even in Unova. I 100% get your reasoning too, Shawn will have 3 Dark types on the main team if we do Bisharp, not something everyone wants. Shawn likely won't exactly be a generalist, but he will come close. I'm glad the character interactions in the chapter were up to par, and that the ones in this chapter are just as good. Thank you for the repeated reviews!

razorbackmike

While both of those Pokemon do have Sandstorm, they are both automatically lower on the list than Tyranitar and Hippowdown because they dont have the Sandstream ability. Krookodile wouldn't be a bad Pokemon to use in Sandstorm, despite its lack of an Ability to capitalize off the Sandstorm. Thank you for the review!

Thanks! I'm happy that the chapter was enjoyable. Prankster Whimsicott, huh? Honestly would be pretty crazy to do, but you are right, it would fill the utility slot well. While I may not do Whimsicott, I will definitely keep Prankster in mind for who I will pick as utility. Thanks for the advice and review!

Runeion

Yeah, especially if Bisharp wins as well, 3 Dark types on the main team would definitely be a trend. However, I don't see a problem with it as long as there's decent coverage and there's no serious problem with it. Thanks for the reviews!

AlphaShenron

Krookodile would definitely fit well, but it doesn't have an Ability to capitalize off the sand like other Pokemon do, so it is automatically not quite as good as say, Gliscor or Excadrill. I will definitely keep Krookodile in mind though, since multiple reviewers have mentioned it. Thanks for the review!

HenDen

Thank you very much! I tried to make the battle a decent length, so I'm glad that worked out well enough. Challenging all three was never the plan, and yes Ash did indeed challenge all 3 of the brothers. If you want to rewatch the BW Anime its on Tubi for free, which is where I've been watching it. Im glad the battle was more of an Anime battle then, not just turn taking like the games. Every battle probably won't be as in-depth as the Gym Battle since those are more difficult, but I will try to make the battles more than the games make them out to be. Thank you for the review!

Neotac

Yeah, it would be possible to do something like that, but my problem is I don't like to make TOO much stuff up just for my character. Obviously we know hes special, he's the MC of the fic, but I don't wanna create something completely new (especially after I did the Arc DS) just to evolve one Pokemon. You do make a fair point though, it could be as easy or hard as I want to make it to evolve Bisharp (If I do). After all, it is indeed just Fanfiction. Thanks for the reviews!

Bag of Holding

Yeah that's fair, they made the Ice stone just to replace glaciers for evolving Glaceon (and other Pokemon I'm probably forgetting). If Bisharp wins and I decide to evolve him It probably won't be too much of a problem to create something new for its evolution. Thanks for the review!

Fanboy101

I can guarantee at least one of each thus far, but we will see about more as we get deeper into the fic. Thanks for the reviews!

Tyrannitar has a definite chance to appear as a Sandstorm setter, and Hydreigon is all but confirmed at this point, so you have 1 out of 4, maybe 2. Absol would be interesting to write, but not anything crazy, though the Dark type would really make Shawn a Dark type specialist. Flygon is possible, especially if no one wants Garchomp. If Sand ends up becoming a legitimate strategy for Shawn, Garchomp will be one of the first choices for me, and if no one wants it, Flygon will probably make an appearance. Also, while the BW dex is top priority, BW2 dex is fair game since its still in Unova, so anything in there can 100% be done. You are definitely right though, especially about Absol and Flygon. A lot of Pokemon that deserve love dont get as much of it because of the overused Pokemon (such as Lucario) and because of lack of specific regional fics. I know for a fact that a lot of Kalos, Johto, and even Hoenn Pokemon haven't got what they deserved because there's just too many Pokemon to cover. Thanks for the reviews!

Uber Ghidorah

Hippowdon is a possibility, but I must say, Tyrannitar is so appealing, my mind has already jumped to it as Sandstorm setter. Far evaluation on Bisharp and Lucario, and honestly I'm surprised I haven't had more people tell me to look into Ferrothorn. I know how insane it was in Gen 5 competitive, and it would bring a bit more diversity to the team through Grass. Beheeyem is not a bad Pokemon by any means as far as I know, but I don't personally like it. Reuniclus, on the other hand, has grown on me little by little the more I think about using it. I originally thought about Sigilyph, but it doesn't have the firepower to do anything special or crazy. Eelektross is very likely to happen, that's all I will say. Druddigon definitely does not get used much, but it does pose as a good secondary option for Dragon types. Sadly, it has Haxorus to compete against, and both have a lack of attention in Fics due to being overshadowed by other Dragon types like Dragonite and Garchomp. Bianca will not be staying for too long, though that would be an interesting idea to try concerning the Dream World. Thank you for the advice and review!

Raidentensho

Galvantula is definitely cool, but IMO not as cool as Eelektross. Eelektross is just badass man, no weaknesses because of Levitate and its got a damn good Attack stat and Sp. Attack stat. Mixed attackers for the win. While Carracosta is a cool Pokemon, it might not happen just because Water types are something you really don't need more than one of unless you are making a rain team. Thank you for the review!

I hope all of my answers help to explain what I am doing with this Fic, and my thoughts on what will happen. With reviews out of the way, however, lets get on to the chapter…

After letting his Pokemon rest in the Center, Shawn contemplated what he would do next.

'Should I go on ahead to Nacrene City? Or should I wait for Ash and Iris to come to Striaton before I leave? I don't know how far ahead I am, so I may end up waiting for a while depending on how slow they are.'

As Shawn debated mentally, Bianca was out shopping. For what he didn't know, but he was glad because it let him think in silence.

'Thinking about Ash makes me remember the Gym battles he had. Striaton was a rough battle because of his lack of training and using pokemon with type disadvantages. Nacrene was an easy win after he put just a little training in, despite Oshawott not opening his eyes underwater for Aqua Jet. He beat every other gym leader on the first try, though he did have trouble with a few of them. Against Elesa he tried to use only Palpitoad like a moron, he got saved by evolutions during Clay, Burgh, and Skylas battles, and he didn't even fight Drayden. Out of the 3 new Gym Leaders in BW2 he chose the second weakest one, not even going for Marlon in Humilao. Most of his Gym battles were pretty weak all things considered, so I shouldn't have any problem. He barely managed to beat Roxie, even in a 6 on 3 with the advantage, so I can't imagine how bad he would've lost to Drayden. If only Ash wasn't an idiot and regularly trained his Pokemon instead of only doing so a couple of times, he would've had no trouble at all.'

Though Shawn knows the Gym Leaders are more powerful than the average trainer, considering Ash only needed a rematch on Lenora, he wasn't worried about any of the Gym Leaders besides Drayden. Shawn may end up challenging all 11 Gym Leaders eventually, but he decided he would get all his badges from the original 8.

His "plans" for each Gym Leader were as follows:

Lenora - Drilbur + Hone Claws

Burgh - Kill it with fire

Elesa - Eat dirt and rocks

Clay - Take a swim

Skyla - Easy sweep with any set up

Brycen - Kill it with fire (part 2)

Drayden - Set up and sweep

Cheren - Set up and sweep

Roxie - Excadrill + Swords Dance

Marlon - Touch grass

Obviously his plans weren't very serious, but as said, if Ash could beat them, so could he, no problem!

For the time being though, it was time to train. Heading to the back of the Center, Shawn found the battlefield.

He first released Oshawott, who came out of his ball in a flash of blue.

"Osha!"

His starter was in okay shape after the battle, but was right as rain after his trip to the Pokemon Center.

He spoke to Oshawott, "We're meeting our newest teammate, but be ready in case he isn't cooperative."

Oshawott nodded. It was his job to be the team leader and keep the other Pokemon in line as his trainer's starter.

After seeing Oshawott nod, he grabbed Drilburs Pokeball, and tossed it up.

"Drilbur, come on out!"

The small, mole Pokemon materialized quickly, before looking at Shawn cautiously.

"Dril?", it said, in a low tone.

Shawn looked at it for a moment, before replying.

"We are going to be the strongest in all of Unova, Oshawott and I. I will turn you into the strongest Excadrill in the whole region if you come with us."

Though it was a basic reply, it did what Shawn wanted. All Pokemon had one thing in common, and that was a want to grow stronger.

Drilbur showed his want by straightening his posture, and looking at Shawn more intently.

Shawn spoke convincingly, "You have the perfect ability, and a conviction to grow stronger. If you join us, you will be among the best of the best."

Drilbur looked between Oshawott and Shawn, before pointing at Oshawott.

Shawn was surprised.

"You want to battle Oshawott? I can grant you that wish, but prepare to lose!"

Drilbur took position a little away, as Oshawott and Shawn backed up to the edge of the arena.

"Alright, Oshawott, use Razor Shell!"

As Oshawott began his assault, Drilbur rushed forward, planning to meet his opponent in the middle with Fury Swipes.

When the two moves made contact however, Drilbur was caught completely off guard. He was overpowered in seconds, being unable to compete with Oshawott's strength.

He decided if a head on assault didn't work, he would attack using his specialty, the ground.

As Shawn saw Drilbur burrow a hole and dive underground, he smiled, and called to Oshawott.

"Water Gun down the hole!"

As Drilbur heard the human command his opponent, he stick to his strategy. After digging his hole under the ground, he felt and listened for the otter. However, instead of hearing any Pokemon, he heard a rushing noise. He quickly found out, it was water rushing towards him.

Shawn grinned seeing Drilbur in the air after being hit by Water Gun, and he called to Oshawott one last time.

"Razor Shell for the finish!"

Oshawott jumped to his opponent in the air, and sliced with his bladed scalchop. As Oshawott landed on the ground gracefully, Drilbur hit the ground, knocked out.

He walked over to the slowly waking Drilbur, and offered a hand on one knee.

"You will be 100 times stronger than you were in this battle, I guarantee it! I'll turn you into a monster of an Excadrill!"

Drilbur looked up at him warily, but took his hand with his claw.

Shawn grinned.

"Well done then, training starts tomorrow! I'll have you healed up again at the Center, and you better prepare yourself for the toughest training you've ever done!"

Drilbur nodded as he was returned to his Pokeball.

'Mission accomplished', Shawn thought. Getting Drilbur to agree with him was pretty easy, so he could start turning him into the perfect sweeper very soon.

When Shawn walked back into the main room of the Center, he was greeted by his temporary travel partner.

"So what were you off doing? I got back a while ago! You should've been here to greet me!" Bianca was raring to go as always, which was one of the reasons Shawn didn't want to stay with her for too long.

If he stayed with her he wouldn't be able to take things at his own pace, which he didn't like at all. He plans to leave on his own after Nacrene, especially since Bianca will have to leave to give Ash his badge case, the perfect excuse.

He spoke back to Bianca, "I was just introducing myself to my new Drilbur. He will fit right in with me and Oshawott."

Bianca shook with excitement.

"Already a new Pokemon?! It better not be as strong as that Oshawott or I'll never be able to catch up!"

Before Shawn could respond, a new voice spoke.

"An Oshawott huh? So you must be the other trainer from Nuvema Town the Professor mentioned."

As Shawn looked to the doors of the Pokemon Center, he saw Ash's rival.

Dirty blonde hair, an orange jacket, a purple shirt and a pair of gray pants, Trip looked just like he did in the Anime.

Shawn nodded at the boy.

"Right, and what about you? I'm assuming you just came from Nuvema Town as well."

Trip responded, "Yep. If you're strong then I would like to battle. None of the trainers I've battled so far have been worth my time."

Shawns eyebrows raised. "Oh, is that so? Well then, I'll make sure this battle will be worth your while. Meet me at the battlefield."

Trip just looked at him oddly, but agreed. "Alright, I'll be out in a minute."

Shawn and Trip took their places at each end of the battlefield, before Shawn spoke.

He started, "So what's your name? You didn't tell me before you asked for a battle."

Trip responded curtly, "Trip. What about you?"

Shawn spoke once more as he called out his starter.

"Shawn. Now let's start this match. Oshawott, standby for battle!"

Trip called out Snivy similarly, "Snivy, lets battle!"

Shawn spoke again, "You can have the first move as the challenger."

Trip wasted no time, going headfirst into what he did not know would be a losing battle.

"Snivy use Leaf Tornado!", he commanded.

Snivy followed the command and immediately spun into a Leaf Tornado.

Shawn just smirked before calling to Oshawott.

"Shoot Snivy down with Water Gun before it can hit you with Leaf Tornado!"

Trip shouted, "Don't let that happen, Snivy! Finish it quickly!"

Snivy brought the Leaf Tornado straight down onto Oshawott, but he jumped left and fired straight at Snivy, gaining a direct hit, and canceling the Leaf Tornado.

Shawn capitalized, "Now slice it up with Razor Shell before it can start the move back up!"

Trip countered, "Use Vine Whip to stop it in its tracks!"

Oshawott rushed forward, energy enhanced scalchop in hand, as Snivy used Vine Whip at range. Snivy tried to hit Oshawott with Vine Whip, but in return it used Razor Shell on the vines, which did enough damage to send them right back to Snivy.

Trip was shook. "What?! A Water type move like Razor Shell shouldn't do a thing to a Grass type move like Vine Whip!"

Shawn grinned before responding, reminiscent of a green spandex wearing boy.

"Its the results of training! We can overcome anything with enough hard work! Now Oshawott, finish this with Razor Shell!"

Trip panicked, and shouted desperately, "Snivy dodge it!"

Sadly for Trip, Snivy was no match for Oshawott's speed at close range, and got sliced by Razor Shell before it could move out the way.

As Oshawott put away his scalchop, and Snivy fell over, eyes swirly and KO'ed.

Shawn spoke, "Good job Oshawott! Glad we can deal with Grass types easily enough."

Trip, meanwhile, looked on in disbelief, before shaking his head and returning Snivy.

"Return Snivy, you did well."

Shawn looked at Trip, Oshawott on his shoulder.

"Glad I made this battle worth your time."

Trip seemed to regret his earlier statement as he spoke.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever. You were stronger than I expected, so it's no surprise I lost, but you started your journey the same day I did. How did you end up this strong?"

Shawn smiled at his starter before responding.

"Lots of training, something every trainer should do."

Trip looked at him skeptically, but responded before walking back into the center.

"If you say so, but training is the basics. There has to be more to it than that."

As Shawn watched the boy walk back inside, he sighed.

'So that was Trip, not as bad as I was expecting. He must only be a real asshole with Ash, but for what reason I don't know. Prolly just hates how stupid he is sometimes.'

Shawn walked over to a bench used to watch battles on the field, and sat on it, deep in thought.

'Most Gyms I should be able to go in and challenge without a problem, but there are some outliers. In Nimbasa I should probably make an appointment since Elesa is busy modeling. In Driftveil, Clay made Ash gather Revival Herbs before being able to challenge the gym, but If I get there before all of that maybe I can avoid it. Finally, in Mistralton, I will NOT be dealing with Skyla if I can help it. That woman is delusional if she thinks type alone is what counts in a battle, and all those people who sit by and let her do it are pussies. If she only wants to fly she shouldn't have become a Gym Leader. The duties of a Gym Leader come before everything short of an emergency, but Skyla is a bit too overconfident to understand any of that. I will wait that one out and come back after Ash and Cilan have dealt with her.'

As he stood up, Shawn noticed the sun was almost down, and decided to turn in for the night. He would get to put Drilbur to work tomorrow, so he needed some good rest to make sure he was in top shape along with his Pokemon.

.

.

End!

A bit of a shorter chapter, but the next one will be about the journey to Nacrene, and if I end up writing a lot it will have the Gym battle as well, so expect a longer chapter next time.

Lucario - 3

Bisharp - 8

Ferrothorn - 1

I am a little shaky on the count, since most of the new reviews did not directly say anything about it, but Ferrothorn has been added to the list, since it got a vote. Honestly you can add any Pokemon you want if you vote for it, but unless everyone wants another, specific Pokemon, it will be one of the original two.

This chapter was shorter, and I'm not sure if I did Trip's character entirely right, so please let me know what you think.

How was the battle? Thoughts on the plan for Bianca? Do Shawn's thoughts make sense? Is he right? How were the "plans" for all the Gym Leaders? Please let me know by reviewing, and thanks for reading!
