it had been a few just under a week since the USJ incident, the students having their first day back at UA since then. They day had gone by rather fast, everyone getting back to their routine of studying during their breaks and doing their best to listen during classes. Understandably their homeroom teacher Mr Aizawa wasn't present on the day, still recovering from his extensive injuries.
Midoriya had spent the end of his day at UA with Recovery Girl, looking over his casted arm. The cast was covered in different coloured writing, nearly his entire class graffitiing all over it with inside jokes and 'get well' wishes. He smiled as he looked over the messages and pictures, from Ashido's 'get well dummy', to Iida writing down his class schedule, to a small purple smiling face wearing headphones, that was his favourite.
His leg was fully healed with the assistance of Recovery Girl, a simple broken Tibia bone was easy to fix. However his arm and hand were a different story, nearly every bone was broken and his joints were damaged. Recovery Girl was able to recover most of the arm, but it needed to heal naturally for at least the remainder of the week before she could attempt to fix it further.
With that knowledge in his mind, he thank the resident nurse, and then began to make his way off the UA premises. He looked at his phone and saw the time, smiling softly as he could get home and still relax for the rest of the day, fortunately with their first day back being a Friday, they already had the weekend ahead of them all. As he turned the corner of the school, Midoriya could have heard someone shouted his name. he turned back around the corner, not seeing anyone for a moment before seeing a bright red iceberg heading towards him.
Midoriya! Yoooo wait up!" Kirishima asked, smiling as he ran towards the smaller student, his bright red school bag clung tightly to his back.
"K-Kirishima?" Midoriya asked, taking a step back out of instinct as Kirishima skidded to a halt in front of him, giving his trademark razor sharp grin.
"The one and only!" Kirishima said with a chuckle, stepping next to Midoriya. "So I missed my train, so gotta walk now, mind if I join ya? We seem to be going the same direction" Kirishima explained, smiling down at Midoriya.
It took Midoriya a few moments to register what was happening, sure Midoriya had seen Kirishima before, even talk to him…and punched him, but this would be his first interaction with him outside of school grounds, where they aren't students and just people. Midoriya realised he was spacing out so gave a quick "S-Sure" smiling up at the red headed student as his heart rate lowered.
Midoriya always enjoyed walking by himself, allowing him time to think about his day, go over his notes, and to plan out how to spend the rest of his day. But perhaps that was because he never had any other experiences to compare it to, he had walked with Jiro before, but that was always during school between lessons or on weekends where school wasn't as important.
Midoriya's thoughts were quickly dashed as he felt repetitive, light punches on his good arms shoulder, a grinning Kirishima responsible for them. "So come on! Tell me about how you saved Jiro! Yaoyorozu said that you saved her life man!" he said, unable to hide his grin.
Midoriya took the hits, clearly playful as he attempted to swat him away. "I-It was nothing! A-Anyone else would have d-done the same!" Midoriya said, his face flushing.
"Except nobody else did dude! You did, and without hesitation according to yaoyorozu" Kirishima countered, his smug grin not fading.
"W-What's with the grin?" Midoriya said, his flushed cheeks not fading.
"Just trying to figure out if you know yet"
"About what?" Midoriya asked, now more confused than embarrassed as he tilted his head slightly.
"About your feelings for Jiro" Kirishima said, sorting out his backpack as he adjusts it, saying the words casually.
"F-Feelings?! For K-Kyoka?!" Midoriya stuttered out, looking up at Kirishima with a shocked, if not bright red expression.
"Oh don't give me that, it's obvious you two have a thing for each other" Kirishima said, clearly enjoying the teasing as he looks both ways down a road, nodding his head at Midoriya as they continue their walk down the street, heading through a more urban area of the city.
"W-Wait, your saying K-kyoka feels something f-for me?!" Midoriya said, trying to keep up with his racing mind at the prospect of his best friend, the person he cares about and trusts most, actually having some sort of romantic feeling for him, and if he might even have any for her.
"I can't speak for her dude, but I've seen how she looks at you, it might just be her being your friend but I don't know" Kirishima said, scratching the back of his head.
The two walked in awkward silence, Kirishima partly regretting bringing it up. "Anyway!" Kirishima said, smiling down at his green haired friend. "What's with your personality man? Like don't take this the wrong way but how aren't you beaming with confidence with that quirk of yours?" Kirishima asked.
"What - What do you mean by that?"
"I just found it odd that someone who has such an awesome Quirk could be so... Wimpy..."
"O-Oh" Midoriya said, looking down at the ground slightly. "W-Well my quirk was a very late b-bloomer, so I was quirkless most of my life, which got me bullied a-a lot" Midoriya explained, his smile gone from his face.
"Ahh shit man, I'm sorry I brought it up" Kirishima said, placing a hand on Midoriya's shoulder. "Well don't worry about that now ok? You're in a different school, surrounded by your friends, like me and Jiro" Kirishima said, trying to reassure the poor student to his side.
"Y-Your my friend?" Midoriya said, looking up to Kirishima with faintly teary eyes.
"Of course I am! Think about all the people you've helped with studying and all the people you have talked to in class, just about all of us our your friends, some more than others but everyone likes ya dude!" Kirishima said, beaming with positivity.
Midoriya looked up at the smiling red head, thinking back at the times in his lessons, from helping Shoji understand his quirk better, to comparing notes with Iida, to getting advice off of Tokoyami with dealing with an unruly quirk. They all were grateful that he helped them, that he was there. They…cared.
The thought made Midoriya catch his breath in his throat, stopping as he tried to catch his breath.
Kirishima stopped walking, his hand still on Midoriya's shoulder as he looked down at Midoriya. "Oh crap man I'm sorry did I make it worse?" He asked, feeling Midoriya's hand squeeze his own, Midoriya looking up at him with tears in his eyes, and a wide grin on his face.
"N-No you didn't, you made it perfect Kirishima" Midoriya said with a wide smile, wiping his eyes.
Kirishima just gave a nod, raising a thumbs up at Midoriya.
The two stood their for a moment, revelling in the realisation of his class full of friends and companions. The two soon continued their walk to their homes, the small talk now much more relaxed and casual as they talk about their hobbies and outer school activities.
Both students were comparing their workout routines before Midoriya reached his house, smiling up at Kirishima. "Well this is my stop, but thanks Kirishima, really" He said with a warm smile.
"No problem Midori-bro" Kirishima said with a chuckle, coming up with his little nickname on the spot. "Oh that reminds me, can I have your phone for a sec?" He asked, Midoriya giving a nod as he unlocked his phone and handed it to Kirishima. "Sure why?"
"well so I can first of all add my contact into your phone so we can hang out and talk more outside of UA, and so I can do this" He said with an evil grin, handing back the phone to Midoriya. Midoriya's expression was one of deep confusion, his eyes bulging out of his skull as he looks down at the screen.
The screen was on his messenger, Jiro's name open with the text 'Hey Kyoka, wanna hang out at mine tomorrow?' Midoriya looked up at Kirishima with a shocked expression.
"Good luck Midoriya" Kirishima said with an open laugh, walking to his house as he waves from his hand.
Midoriya looked at his phone, glued to the screen as it went from 'sent' to 'read'. Midoriya went into his pocket and grabbed his keys, opening the front door as his phone buzzes, the answer to Kirishima's question.
'sure!'
"Oh god do you think the exclamation point was to much?" Jiro said, looking at her phone before hearing a faint giggle to her side, looking to see Yaoyorozu smiling. Both were heading home, deciding to grab a warm drink at a small café. Both girls in a corner booth, Yaoyorozu enjoy a cup of green tea, watching a paranoid Jiro looming over her phone with a coffee in a travel cup.
"Kyoka, dear. Why are you so worked up over this? It's just you and Midoriya hanging out, you've done this plenty of times now" Yaoyorozu said, taking another sip of her tea.
"I know Momo! I don't know why but I just feel on edge" Jiro said, tapping her fingers against the table as she continued to stare down at her phone.
"Is it perhaps because of what you've started to think of him" Yaoyorozu teased, recalling Jiro describing Midoriya as 'adorable' on the bus to the USJ.
"I told you that in confidence!" Jiro said, blushing as she became flustered, gripping the ends of her jacks as she started twirling them around her fingers.
"I know Kyoka, but I have to talk to you about it, you two are clearly close, the question is how close?" Yaoyorozu ask, leaning forward as she placed the cup in her hands on the saucer in front of her.
"W-What are you implying Momo?" Jiro said, not having the will to make eye contact.
"I'm asking how you feel about Midoriya" Yaoyorozu asked, locking her fingers together as she placed her head on top of them, giving a reassuring smile, wanting to know the answer to help, not to tease.
"W-Well were friends, best friends. Don't take it the wrong way Momo your my best friend as well but, Izuku is different. I've known him since he saved me at the entrance exam, and he has always been there when I needed him with studying, checking my revisions, making me laugh, smile, and he has saved my life almost half a dozen times now" She said, listing off the events of the last few weeks. "And I've helped him, helped him sort some things out in his past, helped him with some of his studies, helped him be more social" She continued.
"We've been through so much together" Jiro said, murmuring that last line as she smiled wide, looking away as her blush covered her cheeks, twiddling one of her jacks while the other lightly holds her face, feeling how much she was burning up.
She slowly looked up at Yaoyorozu, seeing her beaming with glee and excitement. "W-What?"
"You're in love! Oh this is just like my romance novels!" Yaoyorozu said, practically bouncing in her seat. "Well maybe not love, that's a strong word, but you definitely have feelings for him!" She said, point an accusing finger at Jiro.
"W-What?! N-No that's not it!" Jiro said, protesting the thought as she waves her hands in front of her to try and swat away the judging finger that belong to Yaoyorozu.
"It is! What else could it be?" Yaoyorozu said, smiling to herself as she rummaged around in her school bag, pulling out a short novel book, opening it up to the front page to see a black and white drawing of the two main love interests. The art work was of a classic gentleman, dressed to the nines as he held a barista in his hands, a shocked expression on her face as she's mid pour of a hot beverage.
"This is exactly it! Someone dashing stumbling into your life and changing it for the better!" Yaoyorozu said, moving the book closer.
Jiro reluctantly looked at the book, moving it closer to herself. She bit her lower lip, her heart racing as she thought of Midoriya and the times she was close to him. The way he held her to keep her safe, the way she held him to comfort him, it all made her heart flutter.
"Crap, I like Midoriya…" Jiro muttered, slumping in her chair, seeing her phone buzz.
'Yeah I'm free tomorrow, I'll see you then. Be at mine like 5pm, you can stay for dinner' read the text, and Jiro smiled.
Midoriya was pacing up and down his living room, lifting a weight with his good arm as a coping mechanism. He fortunately convinced his mother, Inko, to go out for the evening, going out with her friends. This gave him time to clean the flat up to the best of his abilities, limited to only one hand was definitely becoming problematic. He was wearing his normal cargo shorts, a light green top, just a few shades darker then lime with the pro hero 'Takeshita' striking a classic hero pose surrounded by bamboo.
It wasn't long until he heard a knock from the door, his body tensing before looking at his phone, seeing the time hitting '5.07pm'. he approached the door and looked through the peep hole, seeing Jiro on the other side as he gave a bright smile, quickly unlocking and opening the door.
"H-Hey Kyoka!" Midoriya said with a smile, opening the door wide and taking a step to the side allowing her to walk in.
"Hey mophead" Jiro said with a smile, taking her steps forward as she looked around the plain, but homely looking flat she had grown accustomed to. "Is your mum here?" Jiro asked.
"No she is out with some friends" Midoriya said, closing the door behind her.
"heh, your never gonna introduce us are you?" Jiro giggled, teasing Midoriya as she leaned on the counter of the kitchen, placing her backpack on the counter. Jiro was wearing a pair of black ripped jeans, the rips at her knees, a deep purple striped top on her torso, covered by a zip up darker purple hoodie that she has unzipped.
She opens her bag and pulls out a few bottled fizzy drinks, dumping the rest of the contents of the bag onto the kitchen counter, a variety of different sweets and crisps littering the counter top. The sight was that of a child in a candy store, that proceeded to buy one of everything in said store. Jiro looked up and Midoriya, way to proud of herself as she gives a toothy grin.
"I know you said I could stay for dinner, but I got a serious sweet tooth at the moment" Jiro said, giving off a string of giggles that melted Midoriya's heart.
"W-Wow" Midoriya said, thrown aback by the mass amount of junk food she had bought for them. He smiled, moving to his cupboard as he opened the doors, revealing a selection of chocolates and sweets, pulling out two large instant ramen pots. "This was my idea of dinner, can't exactly cook with one hand" He said, grinning at her as they had similar ideas.
Jiro's mouth was left slightly agape, looking at the now doubled supply of sweets and treats. "Oh tonight is going to be good!" Jiro said, jumping on the spot slightly.
'cute as always' Midoriya thought as he looked down at the little rocker, placing the pots down on the counter as he moved to the sofa, turning the TV on. "So we have every streaming surface under the sun, so anything you want to watch is up for grabs" Midoriya said, grabbing a handful of the sweets with his good hand as he moved and placed them onto the coffee table, Jiro quickly helping to move the mountain of junk food to the coffee table.
"Oooh could we watch that new series everyone is talking about? That combat show with all the trenches?" Jiro asked. She was describing a show that was about an alternate world war, where quirks were already discovered and used, and how that effected combat as well as the social and economical effects on the waring countries.
"Sure! Was going to suggest that one" Midoriya said with a smile as he sat down on the sofa, getting comfortable in one of the corners as he placed his bad arm on the arm rest, giving a relaxed sigh. Jiro sat down next to him, sitting in the middle of the sofa with a smile as she got comfy, taking off her hoodie as she grabbed a packet of crisps, popping the bag open and sliding a few into her mouth, savouring the taste with a satisfied moan.
Midoriya found the show and hit play on the first episode, the first episode was intense, starting with an eagle eye view of two trenches no more that a few hundred metres apart. A volley of rifle fire was exchanged from each trench, as well as a series of offensive quirks. From bright green flames coursing through the air, to a man mounted against the trenches unloading bullets from his fingers. The two were quickly invested, watching the professional actors and stuntmen at work bringing this world to life.
The first episode was filled with action and drama in the trenches, the mountain of junk food becoming a small hill by the time it was over. As the episode came to an end, both immediately burst into conversation, discussing the episode and their favourite parts, laughing and giggling at jokes both were making.
They quickly moved onto the second episode, nearly seven in the evening now as Jiro shuffled closer to Midoriya, she tentively leaned on him, blushing as she did her best to act casual, just a friend getting comfy right? Midoriya didn't give it to much thought, moving his arm up for her to get comfortable as she leaned more on him, a happy sigh escaping her lips.
A behemoth of a man walked onto screen, slowly walking with heavy steps through the trench he was in, not caring for the bullets whizzing by his head. His thick, olive trench coat of a uniform hiding his form before ripping it off, revealing his left arm being a large tube, a mortar. He punched the ground, planting himself into the ground as he fired off a series of shells, the large explosions booming through the households sound system.
Jiro looked up at Midoriya, He was completely pale, white as a sheet and trembling. She looked him in the eyes and saw the fear in them. Before she could move to give any kind of comfort, Midoriya beat her to it. He took a shaky breath, calming himself as he slowly interlocked his fingers around hers, his arm wrapping around her to hold her hand, simultaneously hugging her around her shoulders.
"S-Sorry" He said, already realising what he was doing as he attempted to remove his fingers.
They didn't budge, Jiro looking up at him with a blushing smile as she gripped his hand. "N-No it's fine" She said, cuddling up closer to him as she laid her head on his chest, colour coming back to his face in the form of a faint blush. The flashing of the TV shined in Jiro's eyes, her deep, beautiful eyes, Midoriya was almost lost in them.
The second episode finished, the third automatically starting as Jiro felt Midoriya go slightly limp. She looked up at him, seeing his eyes closed as he gave slow, heavy breathes. He had fallen asleep holding her, she smiled up at her crush, gently trying to get up. She was stopped by his hand letting go of her hand and wrapping around her sides, bringing her closer to him.
Jiro was confused, and embarrassed, essentially being used as an oversized teddy bear on the sofa by her recently discovered crush. She looked down at the sleeping boy in front of her, smiling at his cute, peaceful face.
"I can stay like this for a little longer, just five more minutes wouldn't hurt" She whispered to herself, gently resting her head on his chest, yawning as she slowly drifted fast to sleep along with him.
