Chapter Seven

Lena's POV

Pivoting on my heel, I grinned catching the Super's arm. Sliding in behind her, I wrapped my left arm around her throat and pinned her caught arm between us. "Give up yet?" I whispered, causing the blonde to shiver. "I felt that," I purred.

"N-Not quite," she smirked. Feeling myself being pitched forward over the woman's shoulder, I caught myself before hitting the floor and put distance between us. "You're getting better. Good job!"

"You're not putting me on my back that easily," I smirked, rolling my shoulders.

"Not again, you mean," Kara grinned triumphantly. I snickered remembering our first few training sessions.

"Can you two take this seriously?" Alex groaned, pinching the bridge of her nose. "The flirting is out of control."

"I am taking it seriously," Kara and I answered in unison.

Brainy leaned towards Alex. "Is this what humans call sexual tension?"

Snorting a laugh, Alex nodded. "Yes. Times ten. Let's take five."

Retrieving my water bottle, I tossed Kara hers. "This is how you train?"

"Not exactly. Since we both get a boost from the sun, there's no need for the kryptonite emitters. They don't hurt as much as actual kryptonite. They help build up a tolerance and put Alex and I on equal footing."

"Maybe I can train under them. Build up a tolerance of my own."

"It would be a good idea," Alex chimed in. "You've made great progress in a week."

"She gets "great" at first? It took me months!" Kara scoffed playfully. "Who's side are you on?"

"The side of the fighter who uses everything in her arsenal against an opponent. Lena knows the effect she has on you and uses that to her advantage in training."

Something flashed across Kara's face causing me to chuckle. Alex has no idea what I could use against Kara. Those training seasons would be interesting and end with Kara on her back. The sexual tension would be off the charts. It's been two weeks since I broke things off with James and four since we were a couple. It's getting harder to hold my tongue around Kara or not kiss her like I want to. Taking a long sip of cold water, I let it soothe the fire that started in my stomach.

"Earth to Lena." Kara waved her hand a few inches from my face. "You in there?"

Blinking into focus, I turned my attention to Kara. "Yes?"

"You went somewhere. Is everything okay?" Blue eyes searched mine.

"Yeah, everything is fine."

"Uh, we have a problem," Alex paused. "Well, sort of."

"What is it?" Kara turned. "Is it about The Children of Liberty?"

"Yes…and Lillian." Alex turned her tablet. "I was just sent this." A pile of bodies laid in front of the police department. A Cadmus mask covered Lockwood's face. "They're all dead."

"I wondered when she would pop up," my jaw flexed. "She can't get to the men who actually attacked me so she went for the leader."

"Exactly." Alex put her phone away. "Do you know where she is?"

"No. I've not heard from her since Rhea's invasion." I knew it was too good to be true. "When I hear from her, I'll let you know. I'll probably be in her crosshairs-," The bottle Kara held exploded. "Soon." Placing a hand on Kara's forearm, I squeezed gently. "I knew this was an outcome when I agreed to use the kryptonite. Living and making up with you are worth more to me than a relationship with my mother," I paused. "If I'm being honest with myself, it's been like that from the start. I just didn't realize how much back then. That's why I made the virus inert."

"I feel like such an ass for not believing in you sooner," Alex mumbled. "Kara tried to tell us, all of us, that you were nothing but good from the start."

Smiling, I wrapped an arm around the kryptonian. "She always believed in me. Even when I didn't believe in myself." I kissed Kara's cheek. The action caused the blonde to grin and giggle.

"You two are disgustingly sweet," Alex deadpanned. "Kara said the two of you were going to Lex's bunkers to destroy any kryptonite he had," Alex looked between us. "Any luck?"

"Yes. I've gathered a list of locations and Kara's new suit should be finished in a day or two. She'll be able to help me destroy any that's left."

"Good," the agent nodded. "Let's call it a day and start kryptonite training soon. I need to look into this."

"I need to shower and get back to L-Corp. And a certain reporter needs to get back to CatCo, I'm sure." With a wink, I passed the blonde with a teasing smirk.

"No!" Alex exclaimed. "Not here!"

Rolling my eyes, I laughed. "Calm down, Alex. When I do finally claim your sister, trust me, you'll know." With that, I left the Danvers sisters. I could hear Kara's laugh and Alex's groan through the door.

Entering my office, Mother stood looking out the window. "It's an amazing view. Day or night."

Turning, the older woman surveyed me. "You look well. Considering five men tried to kill you a month ago." She took a step closer. "How?"

"I have friends in high places." Both literally and figuratively.

Her eyes narrowed. "The kryptonian did something, I'm sure."

"The kryptonian has a name." I glared, refusing to back down. "Kara got me to people who healed me. She saved my life, again."

Mother's brow twitched. "So you know Kara's been lying to you," she paused. "And yet you're still on her side."

I was angry. I was furious. But I refuse to give you the satisfaction of being right. "She had her reasons." Walking across the office, I stopped a few feet away from the taller woman. "She told me you've known for a while now. Since before the Daxamites arrived. You never told me so it would hurt more."

"Lena, I-,"

I continued before Mother could. "Don't. You always say you love me and you do things with my best interest in mind. Ultimately, you don't know how to love."

"How can you say that?" Mother scoffed. "After everything I've done for you."

"You had those men killed."

"They tried to kill you. Of course I did."

You won't love me after you find out what I am. But I need to make sure you can't harm us before you find out. "They deserved prison. Not to die."

"I will agree to disagree. I am glad to see that you're well." Turning, Mother began to leave. Pausing at the door, she looked towards the window. "Thank you for saving my daughter." She knows Kara's listening. Meeting my gaze, the older woman smirked. "She always listens when I'm around."

Xxx

"Pants!" Kara exclaimed. Running her hands over the suit, her fingers touched the pockets. Blue eyes grew as her hands slid into them. "Pockets? You gave me pockets!"

"I did," I smiled triumphantly. Warmth filled my chest seeing the Super jumping around the training area, testing her range of motion. Noticing how well the new suit fit, I bit my lip. Maybe this was a bad idea. All I want to do is peel that suit off and throw her on the bed. Hell, I wanted to do that before the new suit.

Coming to a stop, Kara studied me. "Everything okay? Your heart rate spiked." Eyes narrowing, the blonde's head tilted. "Lena?"

Glancing towards the viewing area, I smirked. No one's here. "Everything's fine," I purred. Stepping closer, I slid my hands over Kara's hips and up her firm butt before finding purchase on her waist. "The suit looks fantastic." Leaning closer, I whispered. "It would look better on the floor of my bedroom." Quickly, I kissed Kara's cheek. "Maybe later?"

A squeak came from the Super's throat. "Really?" she grinned. Pale cheeks turning pink.

"Mmhmm," I hummed.

"Step away from the Kryptonian! You have three seconds before the sprinklers come on!" Alex growled in frustration over the com system.

Raising my hands, I stepped away. "Okay, okay," I laughed. "Later it is." Kara grinned sheepishly. We've waited long enough and I'm not scared to break anything anymore. "Although, I don't think Kara would mind seeing me…"

"I hate you," Alex grumbled.

"Back to work," J'onn sighed. "It's time to see how well the suit works against the kryptonite emitters."

Entering the room, Alex and J'onn stood in the center. "Kara told us you had to endure green kryptonite, correct?"

"Yes," I nodded. The look on J'onn's face is making me nervous. I wonder if he can still read my mind. I'm sorry for anything you've overheard. Answer if you can hear this.

"If you're trying to tell me something, I can't hear it." My eyes narrowed. "There's only three reasons you'd stare me down that long. Two of those I'm safe to assume you don't want to do."

"Well, since Kara and I are a couple, that's probably for the best…" Thank God!

"I know far too much about your feelings towards Kara anyway," he muttered. "Especially when you worked here and Supergirl wasn't your favorite person."

Horror washed over me. Every fleeting thought I ever had about the reporter in his presence came to mind. "You read my mind then?"

He nodded. "I knew you'd make the right decision. That's why I never said anything about your research."

"I appreciate that.." He knew my feelings for Kara would outweigh anything else.

"Do I even want to know?" Alex looked between the three of us.

"No!" We all answered in unison.

"Back to the original subject," I deflected. "Yes. After we used a sun capsule to charge my Kryptonian cells, I had to be around a large amount of it for sixty seconds." Alex cringed. "It was very unpleasant but put things into perspective. I understand why it's a trigger for Kara now."

"It was terrible," Kara's nose scrunched. "I wasn't as affected because of the training."

"And because you were more focused on Lena," Alex added. "Do your shields automatically engage when kryptonite is detected?"

"Yes," I held up my right hand. "This ring is my shield. Kara's is built into her chest plate."

"Take yours off and I'll turn the kryptonite emitters on." Doing as requested, I took the ring off and slid it into my pocket. Alex's brow rose. "Ready?"

Taking a steadying breath, I grounded myself. "Yes." The yellow lights that lined the walls turned green. Kara's shield activated immediately as my body became sore. "I'm probably at one percent but at least this isn't worse than monthly cramps."

"Two percent, actually," Alex studied me. "Think you can go to three?"

Being the overachieving scientist I am, grinned. "Let's try five."

"Lena, are you sure?" Kara took a step closer. "There's no rush."

"There is as long as my mother and brother are alive. I've got this," I smiled. As Alex increased the intensity, my knees buckled and I groaned.

"Alex, turn it off!" Kara pleaded.

"Leave it!" I glared. "I need to build a tolerance. Let me…sit for a," I winced as I sat cross legged, "few minutes." I can do this. Breathe. Focusing on my breathing and Kara's racing heart, the pain became duller.

"We're done," Alex turned off the lights. Pain lessened quickly. "How do you feel?"

"Rough." Holding out my hand, Kara pulled me to my feet.

"You okay?" Kara examined me.

"I'm fine. Promise," I smiled, trying to calm the blonde. "That was five percent?"

"Eight actually. Good job," the agent nodded. "Let's get you under the sun lamps."

My step faltered but Kara was there to catch me. "I've got you," she whispered. "Always."

"I know."

Once under the sun lamps, my body began to tingle again. Kara was called away which left Alex and I alone. "How did I actually do?"

"You did well." Alex sat on the bed that was next to mine. "You're at eight and Kara is at twenty four now." I scoffed. "She started at five. It took her a year to reach sixteen. You've almost mastered heat vision, ice breath, and your super strength. We need to work on precision and flying next."

"The mental gymnastics of how much pressure is too much takes a toll." I smirked remembering all of the snapped keys and shattered glasses. "Why did you go higher?"

"I wanted to test you and a theory," she paused. "I also knew, if you had it your way, you'd want to start at ten and would push yourself too far." I smirked at the older woman. "You, me, and Kara are a lot alike. We want to push the limits. Sometimes to our own detriment," she shrugged. "We almost lost you twice. I'm not sure what would happen if we actually did."

"You would be fine without me." I waved my hand dismissively. "You survived before I moved to National City and you'd survive after."

"Most of us would but I don't know about Kara. She went to a dark place when Mon-El left but you helped us drag her back into the light. When you and Supergirl didn't get along," Alex ran a hand through her hair. "That was…that was not fun. It's a damn good thing she can't gain weight on this planet and that we have a limitless supply of concrete blocks. She loves you more than she realizes. I'm glad she doesn't have to worry about your quarterly assassination attempts as much now."

"I love her too. I desperately tried not to let her in at first because I've been hurt so much in my life." Warmth filled my chest remembering our first few encounters. "But her smile drew me in. I'm not sure when my feelings changed but…I did not like seeing her with Mon-El," I chuckled. "He turned out to be a good man though."

"Luthor got jealous," Alex teased. "He was, is, a good man." Something flashed across the woman's face.

"What?"

"Nothing," Alex murmured.

"Tell me." I leaned up on my elbows. "Or at least tell me what it's about."

"Before Mon-El left again, he pulled me to the side. He said that since it had only been seven months since he left, that a certain event must not have happened yet. An event that would ultimately bring you and Kara together and allow you to be alive in the 31st century." Alex paused to let the information sink in. "He must have known about the attack but, obviously, couldn't say anything."

"So he knew I'd eventually forgive her?" That's mildly annoying. I understand why he couldn't tell us any of this but still. "And that we'd end up together."

"Apparently."
