Another world away
Chrom and the other Shepherds have been pushed back against one of the large walls of the Outrealms. Having to avoid accidentally entering a gate, their resistance isn't going so well.
"Robin should have been back by now, Time shouldn't flow normally in the outrealms, we were counting on that!"
Chrom is slowly starting to panic, but is keeping a lid on it. It wouldn't be good for their leader and Exalt to panic in the middle of battle now would it?
"Millord I agree, he should have returned by now given everything we have gone through, something must have gone wrong."
Frederick was just trying to help, but if anything it only made Chrom worry more.
"Damn it we need to break out and go help him then, Frederick and Kellam plea-"
Chrom was interrupted by a large shockwave as a Thoron bolt crashed through the Risen. Spell after spell is cast into the horde and the Shepherds can feel the pressure relent as the Risen split between the two foes.
'Maybe he was just delayed is all' "Shepherds push out and clear the Risen out!"
Chrom's voice carried well over the noise of battle, and the Shepherds responded with a resolute battle cry, and soon the hall stunk with the gas of the Risen. Turning to the spellcaster, Chrom wasn't incredibly surprised to see Robin there⦠Except, the hood is up, and all the Grandmaster Armor pieces were missing, also, Robin isn't that short. Chrom, curious as hell why this stranger has his best friend's coat, walked up.
"This isn't exactly a safe place to be, might I ask who you are, or why you're here?"
The spellcaster looked up at Chrom, and while Chrom couldn't see any eyes, because of the hood, the lower half of the face and the voice spoken, this spellcaster was undeniably female.
"Oh, my name is Morgan, have you seen my father?"
Gaius stepped out of the gate to goodneighbor soft footed. Intel gathering and stealth were some of his best skills, so he was perfect for figuring out what has happened to this world. For two hours he walked with no encounter, not one soul impeded his path as he explored Boston, marking down a map he brought with him. After about 2 and a half hours of walking and map making, he encounters a group of raiders walking along. Taking out his throwing knives, three were thrown, and three raiders fall to the ground. The last raider was caught off guard and tried to raise his pipe pistol, but Gaius quickly knocked the pistol aside and put his hand to the raider's mouth, and a knife to his neck.
"Scream and your life is forfeit, I have questions and you're going to answer them"
The raider shakily nods his head, whether he's actually scared, he's high on jet, or both, Gaius can't tell. However he begins his interrogation anyway.
"Where am I? This resembles no realm I've ever traveled to, it should not be this different from my own."
The raider seemed a bit confused, and probably would have laughed if Gaius wasn't holding a knife to his throat. When the raider began to speak, Gaius could smell something foul in his breath, definitely high on jet.
"You're in the Commonwealth, Boston to be specific, thought you would 'ave known that"
Gaius could already tell it was going to be one of those interrogations, so he pops a lollipop in his mouth before continuing.
"Why is everything dead and destroyed?"
"I dunno, was like that when I was born"
He hadn't made it to his third question and he was already annoyed, however before he could act on it, he could hear a voice some distance behind him, and it didn't sound human.
"Tiny human distracted by other tiny human, this prove Super Mutant strongest creature!"
Gaius managed to dodge out of the way with time to spare, the raider however wasn't so lucky. All that was left of him was a pink mist as the Super Mutant slammed its hulking arm into him. Gaius was able to get a good look at this super mutant, and saying it was big was an understatement. This hulking behemoth towered over Gaius by at least a yard, looking down at the thin thief. Once more the Mutant roars and lunges, swinging its large arm in a wide arc in an attempt to crush the sweet tooth. Gaius however had an idea this time around and rolled forward, getting underneath the arc of the arm, and slashing into the mutant's side. This sort of move would kill any normal human being.
This wasn't a normal human being though, which became evident as Gaius felt something big graze him. Unable to get a proper hit due to the close distance, the Mutant managed just to swing over Gaius, obviously angered that there's now a large gash in its side. Gaius dodges back to avoid the next wing, before grabbing two throwing knives and throwing them at the mutant's large head. One flies wide, striking the collapsed building behind them. The other strikes the Mutant in the eye, not killing it, but making it harder for the mutant to see. Now even more enraged, the mutant swings wildly, knocking over a streetlight and a trash can in an attempt to hit the nimble thief, who dodges each time, and finally gets a throwing knife on target, right at the neck, and the mutant collapses. Sighing to himself, he walks over and retrieves his throwing knives and repockets them, but it's at this moment he realizes he's in trouble, as looking ahead he can see 6 more of these things rapidly approaching, all wielding weapons of a sort.
"Well crap"
Not sparing any time, Gaius turned and hightailed it out of there, using his smaller figure and nimbleness to squeeze into tighter spaces to increase his lead over the super mutants. He had mapped the general area out in his time before meeting the raiders, and he sure as hell wasn't going to die with that information. No, now would be a good time to return to the relative safety of Goodneighbor and show Blue Jr what he found. It was either that or stay and die.
Arriving back at Goodneighbor, the wooden walls looked like the most secure thing he'd seen since Ylisstol, given that he was being chased, that's not surprising. Gaius enters the town and heads back to the hotel to relay what he's found, giving the drifter by the door the casual 'don't fuck with me' glare when he walks by.
Robin yawns as he's first softly shaken awake, then violently as a voice he's grown accustomed to lays into him
"Robin get up! Nate here told me you planned to travel to another town outside of this one, and Gawds I can't wait to get out of this place!"
"Sorry Robin, I tried to wake you calmly, but your friend here wasn't having any of it."
Robin yawned once more before rising off of the couch he fell asleep on. Luckily for his own sanity the reporter Piper said an interview with Robin could come later, and so she only interviewed Nate on his past life. Now he just had to convince the rest of his body to wake up so they could get moving.
"Don't worry about it Nate," Robin began with a yawn. "It's something I've grown somewhat used to."
He could hear Severa scoff at comment to the side of him. Luckily for Robin, the Red Headed Mercenary didn't seem to be in the mood to slap him so he was able to stand up and stretch a little more, before grabbing his coat off the back of the couch and throwing it back on, latching the armor on shortly after.
"Alright, are we all ready? Then let's get going."
The road out of Diamond City was not exactly a safe one, Raiders lay around pretty much every street corner. Feral Ghouls, as Robin had learned, were not friendly and there was not anything he could do to help them. Despite all this, Robin still managed to get them all away from Diamond City, and rested for a bit in an old park called the Boston Common, Robin thought it seemed fitting.
"Just remember, we're still keeping a low profile, try not to mess with anything."
Severa rolled her eyes at Robin, annoyed that he was keeping so professional when it didn't look like anything was around them. In the future, it was times and places like this that let the survivors catch their breath and relax a little, safe from the hordes of Risen, if just for a little while. Severa saw this place as no different. Thus she looked around the area a bit, before coming upon what looked like a completely normal swan, just sitting on top of the water. Curious, she walked a bit closer to take another look. Nate saw what she was doing, and knew such a swan was impossible.
"SEVERA STOP!"
Too late.
Severa took one step too many and the Swan rose out of the water, it was attached to the side of a Super Mutant behemoth that had been laying down in the water. With a road he swung angrily at Severa, missing by a fraction of a margin. Nate, deciding a big creature like that needed more firepower than his rifle could afford, pulled out a grenade and primed it. Severa at this point was already dodging away, hand reaching down for her sword.
"Robin NOW!"
At once, Nate chucked the Grenade at the Mutant's head. At the same time, Robin aimed a small Thunder spell, which struck the Grenade, causing it to explode right in the face of the mutant. The mutant refused to fall over though, and started charging towards Nate and Robin blindly, looking to kill whatever the source of its pain was. However, the mutant didn't get very far.
"ARCTHUNDER!"
Robin shot out a significantly more powerful thunder spell, striking the mutant in the chest, and finally causing this thing to fall over. Unfortunately it fell over on top of Robin, who wasn't able to dodge out of the way in time. Nate, worried for a second, went over to check on Robin, and heard a muffled voice from beneath.
"Get this thing, off of me"
AN: So... everyone thought this story was abandoned didn't they, well I wouldn't blame you. My speed of writing is super inconsistent, However I put the planned number of chapters in so you all should be able to see how close I get to completion. Know I will never abandon this story, at worst you just won't hear from me for a very long time. Hopefully I can get Chapter 5 done semi soon.
