Episode 158: A Crowning Achievement
Mew and her friends continue on their journey towards Mt. Silver to return Larvitar to his birth place and then off to the Silver Conference of the Johto League. Soon, Larvitar wakes up from his nap.
"Well, look who decided to wake up," Misty says to Larvitar, "Aren't you a little sleepy head."
Larvitar soon Hardens up.
"Aw. It Hardened again," Misty says, sadden.
"Don't worry Misty, I'm sure Larvitar will open his shell. It just going to take him more time," Mew says.
"If you say so," Misty says.
"I wonder why Larvitar only likes Mew and whenever anyone else talks to it, it hardens?" Tomo wonders.
Then Brock says, "This is a job for the guy who will one day become the world's greatest Pokémon Breeder. Who makes the cute little Pokémon laugh now, huh?
Brock tries to make Larvitar laugh, but all it did was frighten Larvitar to the point of Screeching, prompting everyone to cover their ears.
With her ears covered, "Mew cries out, "Way to go, Brock!
Moments later, Mew tries rocking Larvitar, hoping to calm him down, "Alright, Larvitar. It's okay. Larvitar, come on. It's okay. Come on. It's okay."
Larvitar quickly stops Screeching.
"Oh. You stopped that just in time," Misty says. Then turns to Brock, "I think you need some work on your technique, Brock."
Brock however is confused, "I don't get it. My goofy faces always make Pokémon laugh. There must be something wrong with it. Listen, now that the Screeching's done, you can hear a waterfall just up ahead. Let's go find it and have some lunch."
"Yeah!" Molly happily says.
"Alright!" Jen happily says.
And Misty says, "A picnic by the water sounds like the first good idea you've had all day, Brock."
"I'm starving! Last one there's a rotten Exeggcute!" Tomo says.
Soon, everyone runs down the path to the source of the waterfall sound. Unknown to them, Team Rocket is spying on them again.
"So, the twers is going to have a little lunch by the lake, huh?" James says.
"Yeah, and while dey're munchin' lunch, we'll pinch Pikachu and Eevee, right, Jess?" Meowth says.
Jessie, however, is busy eating a sandwich, and the boys notice it.
"Hey, who said it was lunch time?" James asks.
Then Meowth demands, "Yeah, where's ours?"
Jessie finishes the sandwich and says, "It's all gone."
"You mean you just ate all our lunch?" Meowth asks, shocked.
"Yeah, so? If you two wanted some, you should've said so instead of just jabbering about stealing Pikachu and Eevee," Jessie says, "Now, are you coming with me or what?" and walks off.
The two just look at each other and sigh.
"Oh my," James replies.
"What just happened?" Meowth asks.
Further on up ahead...
"I can't wait to get to the waterfall," Tomo says.
"Me too," Jen says.
Mew soon notices, "There's a hill up ahead."
The group soon looks to see a grassy hill ahead. The group of friends slide down the hill and soon reach the bottom. When they reach the bottom of the hill, they soon see several Slowpoke laying around and a few Slowbro standing close to the water.
"Well, there's the waterfall," Tomo says.
"But the lake's pretty dried up," Mew says.
"I wonder what happened. You can tell it used to be deeper," Misty says.
And Brock takes the guidebook, "Maybe there's something about it in the guidebook."
"The Slowpoke don't look too healthy either," Mew says, worried.
"Yeah. They're all just, lying around," Molly says.
The group continues to look around to see Slowpoke looking tired and depressed.
Suddenly, Tomo notices something on a rock, "Look! What's that sitting on top of the rock over there?"
"I'm pretty sure that's a King's Rock," Mew says.
"A King's Rock?" Molly questions.
"What's a King's Rock doing here?" Jen asks.
"I'm not sure. Let's take a look," Mew says.
Suddenly, someone calls out, "Wait!"
Everyone looks and sees two people. A grown man and a young girl with blue hair in pigtails. They are also with a Slowpoke
"Whoever you are, please don't touch the King's Rock," The girl says.
And the man says, "The future of these Slowpoke here depends on it."
"I don't understand. Depends on it, how?" Misty questions.
The three then walk over.
The girl explains, "Well, that's kind of a long story, actually, but I'll be happy to tell you if you'll just agree to leave it alone."
"Sure we will," Mew says.
"You have my word," Mew says.
"Thank you for understanding," The girl says and introduces herself, "My name's Alice, and this is my father, Professor Telesu. And down here is my Slowpoke, Arthur."
"Slowpoke," (Greetings.) Arthur the Slowpoke says.
"Hi, my name is Mew," Mew says.
"And I'm Misty," Misty says.
"I'm Tomo," Tomo says.
"I'm Jen," Jen says.
"And I'm Molly," Molly says.
And Brock happily says, "And my name's Brock, at your service. If you want us to stay away from the King's Rock, that's what we'll do," and takes Alice's hand, "We'll go far away, just you and I."
"I, uh…" Alice replies, confused.
Misty soon grabs Brock's ear and hauls him away, "Right over here far enough for now, Romeo."
"Uh, yeah," Mew says, confused.
Then turns to Alic, "Alice, what do you mean the Slowpoke depend on the King's Rock?"
"Is it magic or something?" Molly asks.
"No, nothing like that, but it does have an amazing story that my father and I have been researching for some time now," Alice answers.
Then Prof. Telesu says, "The King's Rock was thought to be a myth, but it's real, and is at the heart of the Slowking legend."
"Can you tell us what the legend is about?" Misty asks.
Prof. Telesu nods and says, "But if you're really interested, I can do better than that and actually show you. So, come on."
Soon, Mew and the others follow Professor Telesu and his daughter. Meanwhile, Team Rocket watches from afar.
"Hmm. I see," Jessie says and turns to the boys, "Did you both hear that?"
"Yes. I heard king, and king means jewels!" James says.
"And jewels mean dough! LOTS OF DOUGH!" Meowth says.
Back down in the dried up lake…
"How far are we going?" Misty asks
"Not much further," Professor Telesu answers.
Alice turns to her Pokemon, "How are you doing, Arthur? You and I have been walking all morning now. You must be pretty tired."
"Slowpoke Slowpoke Slow," (Not quite, my old friend.) Arthur says.
"Okay, we'll keep going," Alice says.
"Seems like you and Arthur are really close, huh, Alice?" Jen asks.
"We are," Alice says.
Prof. Telesu also says, "It's always been that way with these two. Arthur's been with Alice since it was small."
"Isn't that right?" Alice replies to Arthur
And Arthur answers, "Slowpoke," (Too true.)
Soon, Misty notices, "Seems like the water level here is really low."
"Yeah, it used to be a beautiful lake, but not anymore," Alice says.
"What happened?" Brock asks.
Alice soon explains, "Up until just a few years ago, it was the biggest lake in the area. But then we had an earthquake. A big crack opened up in the bedrock underneath, and most of the water leaked out. The river still flows into it, but not enough to fill it."
"So that's what happened to it," Mew says.
"All the wildlife has suffered since then, but especially the Slowpoke," Alice says.
"Slowpoke," (Indeed.) Arthur says.
Prof. Telesu soon comes to a stop, "We're here, everyone. This is it, what I wanted you all to see. What do you think?"
Everyone looks and sees a mural with glyphs on it.
"What is it?" Tomo asks.
"A wall mural carved by natives perhaps thousands of years ago. We hope it'll explain the Slowking legend," Prof. Telesu says.
Then Alice says, "No one knew these drawings were here until the water level dropped and exposed them. The same with the King's Rock, which no one thought even existed."
Mew looks at the drawings and asks, "What are all these drawings saying? Have you figured out their meaning?"
Prof. Telesu nods, "I have deciphered almost all of it. It tells the story of a time when the lake's water vanished and Slowpoke nearly became extinct. They were saved by a special Slowpoke who transformed itself into a Slowking with the King's Rock."
"Wow. That's a really cool story. And mysterious," Misty says.
"Sounds cool. Back then, people used to believe that Slowpoke could only evolve into Slowbro. Then it becomes known that Slowpoke can evolve into Slowking, but in a different way."
"You're right," Prof. Telesu says, "Almost always when Slowpoke is bitten on the tail by Shellder, it transforms into Slowbro. But the legend holds that when a Slowpoke puts on the King's Rock and is then bitten on the head…"
"It becomes Slowking!" Mew adds.
"That also means Slowpoke has a branched evolution!" Brock says.
Misty then says, "The legend talks about the water leaving and threatening the Slowpoke a long time ago, but it sounds like it's the same thing that's happening now."
"You're right, Misty," Prof. Telesu says, "That's what's so exciting! If the legend's true, a Slowpoke could emerge any time now to become Slowking," But then says with his arms crossed, "But there's still one big piece of the puzzle missing."
"What is it, Professor?" Mew asks.
Prof. Telesu points to the last drawing, "The last panel of the mural I believe symbolizes Slowpoke paradise, and it's also the way this lake looked just a few years ago. But the panel right before that, it remains a mystery to me. And until I understand it, I cannot understand the Slowking legend."
"What could that be?" Tomo asks, curiously.
"It kinda looks like a rainbow with a comb on top," Mew says.
Brock chuckles sheepishly.
"That's ridiculous," Misty says with a snicker.
"Hmm… I figure as much, but then what could it be.
Just then, Team Rocket soon steps in and begins the motto in costumes.
Jessie: (dressed as a queen)
Bow to the queen and prepare for trouble!
James: (dressed as a king)
Crawl before the king, and make it double!
Jessie:
To protect the world from devastation!
James:
To unite all peoples within our nation!
Jessie:
To denounce the evils of truth and love!
James:
To extend our reach to the stars above!
Jessie:
Jessie.
James:
James.
Jessie:
Team Rocket, shuffling the deck at the speed of light.
James:
Better lay down all your cards now or prepare to fight!
Meowth: (dressed as a joker; laughs)
Dat's right!
Jessie then happily says, "Since we're here today to steal your King's Rock…"
"We've used a playing card theme to royally annoy you!" James adds.
Everyone, but Mew, Alice, and her father shout, "Team Rocket!"
"You got the annoying part right!" Mew adds, annoyed.
Then Jessie says, "Just a beside before you get hurt, twerps."
"We're here to steal the King's Rock and there's no way you'll stop us!" James says.
Meowth: We consider dis steal our crowning glory!" Mewoth adds.
Then Jessie calls out her Pokemon, "Go, Arbok!"
"And Weezing, you, too!" James adds and calls out his Pokemon.
Both Pokemon come out.
"Now…" Jessie says.
And James finishes, "Head straight for the King's Rock!"
Both Pokémon make a dash for it.
"No! Someone stop them!" Alice cries out.
Mew then calls out, "Go, Pikachu! Eevee!"Protect the King's Rock!"
Pikachu and Eevee charge in for the attack.
Jessie calls out, "Arbok, go! Poison Sting, now!"
Arbok launches the attack, but Pikachu and Eevee dodge.
New calls out, "Pikachu! Eevee! Quick Attack!"
Pikachu and Eevee darts in, but Arbok sidesteps.
"Oh no!" Mew calls out.
Arboks soon nails Pikachu with an attack of its own as Eevee dodge.
"Pikachu!" Misty cries out.
"Eevee, Take Down!" Mew calls out.
Eevee charges and nails Weezing.
Jessie calls out, "Now, Arbok, use Bite attack and finish it off!"
Arbok closes in on Pikachu.
"Pikachu, look out!" Mew calls out.
Right then and there, Larvitar uses Screech, bringing the battle to a halt.
Jessie cries out, "Big mouth for a little Pokémon!"
"You can scream dat again!" Meowth cries out.
Soon, Arthur stops Larvitar and calms him down.
"Alright!" Brock says.
"Look. Larvitar's Screech doesn't seem to bother Arthur at all," Tomo says.
"And it was able to quiet it down, too," Misty says.
Jessie and James take the distraction as their cue to grab the King's Rock, "Let's go!"
"Let's grab da King's Rock and scram before dey know what hit em!" Meowth says.
But Brock says, "Not so fast! Go, Forretress!"
And lets Forretress out of the Pokeball.
Brock calls out, "Foretress, Rapid Spin, now!"
Forretress spins towards Team Rocket and trips them up.
Mew calls out, "Go, Pikachu, Eevee, use Thunderbolt!"
Both Pokemon launch the attack and Team Rocket are sent blasting off.
"Team Rocket's blasting off again!" Team Rocket cries out.
Moments after the battle…
Prof. Telesu says to Mew and Brock, "Thank you for stopping Team Rocket from stealing the King's Rock.
"I wish we could do something to help the Slowpoke," Alice says.
"By late summer, the lake will be completely dried up and the Slowpoke won't be able to survive here anymore," The professor adds.
"But where are they going to go?" Alice wonders in concern, "There's no other lake around here large enough for them, and they move so slow."
"It would seem that the only hope is for that special Slowpoke to appear and become a Slowking. And right away," Professor Telesu says.
"How about the Slowpoke here? Have any of them ever tried to become a Slowking?" Misty asks.
"Yes, there have been a few who tried, but…" Alice says.
And soon notices, "Look! One's trying now! I thought that one might try, it's very adventurous."
The group looks to see the Slowpoke in question hops across the rocks.
Misty cheers, "Go, Slowpoke!
"Yeah!" Jen cheers.
Tomo cheers, "Get that King's Rock, Slowpoke, and become a Slowking!"
Suddenly, Brock spots something swimming in, "Uh oh."
And out from the water, a Shellder leaps out.
"Shellder!" Molly cries out.
The Shellder clamps down on Slowpoke's tail, evolving it into Slowbro.
"That's what always happens to Slowpoke who try and reach the King's Rock. They always get caught and evolve into Slowbro," Prof. Telesu says.
"It didn't have a chance. It never got close to the King's Rock," Misty says.
"Well, they don't call them Slowpoke for nothing," Brock says.
"Of course, once they evolve into Slowbro, they can never become a Slowking," Prof. Telesu says.
"The situation seems hopeless," Alice says.
"Slowpoke?" (Hopeless?) Arthur questions.
"The water keeps getting lower, and if it doesn't change soon, these Slowpoke will have no place left to live. I hate to think what might happen to them," Alice says and begins to tear up, "If only there were some way we could contact that special Slowpoke, and let it know, we need its help. Now."
Just then, Artho begins walking forward.
"Arthur?" Mew questions.
"Where are you going?" Misty asks.
Alice calls out, "Wait! Come back! Arthur!"
Alice goes after Arthur as he hops across the rocks.
Alice calls out, "No, Arthur! Come back!"
"That's very strange. I've never seen Arthur disobey Alice," Prof. Telesu
Then Brock realizes, "I think its decided that its duty is to become Slowking."
"Arthur?!" Alice says, surprised.
"But at that speed, it'll never make it!" Molly says, worried.
And Jen says, "It'll get its tail bitten and become a Slowbro, just like all the others!"
Soon, the other Slowpoke and the Slowbro take notice of Arthur's efforts when several Shellder swim in.
Brock notices, "Here come the Shellder! And lots of them!"
Soon, Arthur dodges every single Shellder that leaps out of the water.
"Hey! Great move!" Misty cheers.
"Yeah, it dodged so fast the Shellder flew right out of there!" Tomo cheers.
"Way to go, Arthur!" Brock cheers.
"You can do it!" Mew calls out.
The other Pokemon begins cheering for Arthur.
Arthur soon slips into the water and the Shellder are coming.
Alice cries out, "Arthur! Look out!""
However, Arthur uses his tail as a propeller to move forward through the water.
"Prof. Telesu says, "Hey. It's motoring quite well," impressed.
"I think Arthur is going to make it to the King's Rock!" Mew says.
Alice cheers, "Go, Arthur!"
Arthur soon reaches the spire where the King's Rock awaited, but the Shellder make one last attempt to bite his tail.
"Shellder!" Alice cries out.
"Oh, no!" Mew cries out.
The Pokemon shout in their language, "Watch out!
Right then and there, Larvitar starts Screeching again.
Not the Screech again!" Tomo cries out.
Everyone but Arthur feels the pain of the noise, allowing him to climb up to the King's Rock.
"Screech doesn't effect Arthur! Remember, it's alright!" Brock says.
"But it took care of the Shellder, so Arthur's gonna make it there!" Misty says.
"Arthur finally reaches the top and places the King's Rock upon his head.
"You did it, Arthur!" Tomo says, excited.
"He got the King's Rock," Jen cheers.
Larvitar soon stops Screeching just in time for a Shellder to bite down on the King's Rock itself.
"Oh no!" Alice says.
"Don't worry, the Shellder got the head, not the tail," Mew says.
And soon, Arthur begins to evolve.
"Hey! Check it out!" Brock says.
"Something's happening!" Misty says.
Yeah, Arthur's evolving," Mew says.
Arthur soon morphs in size, allowing him to stand on two legs, until the glow fades to reveal his new form.
"It's happened!" Prof. Telesu says.
"Arthur evolved into Slowking," Tomo says.
Mew gets out her Pokedex and Dexter says, "Slowking, the Royal Pokémon. A Water and Psychic Type. Slowking possess great knowledge and inspiration, and are known for maintaining a level head in any circumstances."
"Arthur," Alice says, amazed. "My Arthur's become, a Slowking."
Arthur turns to Alice.
Alice says to Arthur, "Arthur. You did this because you knew the Slowpoke needed your help, didn't you?"
Arthur confirms.
"Thank you," Alice says.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket watches from afar.
"We may have missed our chance to grab the King's Rock, but, catching that Slowking would sure put a jewel in our crown," Jessie says.
"Yes. A Pokémon fit for a king," James says.
"Or fit for a boss is how I see it," Meowth says.
Then Wobbuffet says, "Wobbuffet!" (Verily!)
Suddenly, everyone spots Team Rocket up above.
"Oh no! It's Team Rocket!" Misty cries out.
"Not you guys again!" Jen shouts in shock.
"I'd like to see how you dodge dis, your royal slowness!" Meowth says.
With the press of a button, a net drops down.
Alice calls out, "Arthur, Confusion!"
Arthur performs the attack and the net goes back at Team Rocket.
"I don't remember the part of the plan where we catch ourselves!" Jessie cries out.
James cries out, "Meowth, do something!"
"Alright, keep your pants on!" Meowth panics.
With the press of a button, smoke comes out of the bottom of the basket.
"We'll use Smokescreen and sneak up on Slowking dat way!" Meowth says.
"So, now what?" Prof. Telesu asks.
"They're trying to hide," misty says.
"They did it so we can't see what they're doing," Brock says.
"But they can't see what they're doing either!" Mew adds.
In the smoke, Meowth says, "Man, it got dark in a hurry, didn't it?"
Then Alice calls out, "Now, Arthur, use Confusion to send them flying!"
Arthur then performs their attack and sends Team Rocket flying.
"We're picking up speed!" Meowth screams.
"Can you see where you're going?!" James cries out.
"If you survive this, Meowth, you're fired!" Jessie cries out.
"Wobbuffet! ("This ain't good!") Wobbuffet adds.
James notices, "We're headed right for a cliff! Port the helm!"
"No, not port, you ninny! Turn us to starboard!" Jessie panics.
"I don't know port from starboard!" Meowth cries out.
The balloon soon crashes and Team Rocket fall to the ground.
"It was port," Jessie and James reply.
Soon, three Shellder come up from behind and bite their bums, making them scream.
"Wow," Jessie says.
"That really hurt," James adds.
"Are we gonna toin into Slowbro now?" Meowth asks.
Then Wobbuffet appears, "Wobbuffet!" (Don't think so!) and he has a Shellder on his head.
The Shellders soon fall off each of them as Mew and the others approach.
Then Mew says, "Pikachu, Eevee, finish it with a Thunderbolt."
Pikachu and Eevee launch the attack and send Team Rocket blasting off.
"Here we go," Jessie says.
Then all three cry out, "Team Rocket's blasting off again!"
Arthur soon turns towards his subjects and they all start singing his praises.
"All the Slowpoke and Slowbro are praising Slowking and acknowledging him as their king," Mew says.
"Looks like Arthur's a great leader," Brock says.
"Yes, I think they found themselves a good Slowking," The professor says.
"So this must mean my Arthur is the special Slowpoke from the legend," alice says.
"That's right. The leader who will show the way to the Slowpoke paradise," Misty says.
"Do you think Arthur knows where it is?" Tomo asks.
Arthur the Slowking soon turns towards Alice.
"Oh, Arthur," Alice says.
Arthur soon turns towards the waterfall and uses his psychic powers to split it open, amazing the group.
"That looks a little familiar," Alice says.
Prof. Telesu nods his head and says, "Just like in the mural. The mystery panel is a picture of this split waterfall and the caves behind it!"
"It all makes sense!" Mew says.
"Way to go, Arthur!" Misty says.
"Yeah, you really are the king!" Brock says.
Then Arthur informs the Pokemon, "Slow!" (Come!)
Arthur soon leads his kind towards the caves like Moses led the Israelites across the Red Sea.
Alice calls out, "Wait, Arthur! Let us come with you!" And follows.
The others follow as well.
"I wonder how far these caves go," Mew wonders.
"Do you think the Slowpoke's paradise is really somewhere in here?" Jen asks.
Soon, they reach the end of the caves and the fabled Slowpoke's paradise.
"Look at this huge lake hidden behind the falls!" Brock says.
"Amazing!" Molly says.
"It really is a paradise for the Slowpoke," Misty says.
Soon, the Slowpoke and Slowbro enter the water and enjoy the very paradise they were led to.
Prof. Telesu then says, "They'll everything they need to live here happily."
"Lots of food and fresh water, and now they have a king," Mew says.
"It's so great. It's all just so wonderful," Alice says.
Soon, the group is outside the caves.
"Now, Arthur, don't forget, you're the Slowpokes' leader now, and they'll depend on you," Alice says.
"Slowing," (I know.) Arthur answers.
Oh, Arthur," Alice says.
And soon tears forms in Alice's eyes, "Oh, Arthur!"And runs up to and hugs her friend, "Promise me you won't ever forget me, alright?"
Arthur hugs her back and agrees before backing away.
"Goodbye," Alice says.
Arthur says, "Slowing." (Farewell, Alice.)
Arthur walks into the caves.
Alice says her goodbyes, "Goodbye, Arthur! Goodbye and good luck!"
The waterfall closes as Arthur waves goodbye.
"Arthur," Alice says, sad to be missing her friend and yet proud of Arthur for doing a brave act for the Slowpoke and Slowbro.
Prof. Telesu says, "I know you're sad right now, but Alice, isn't it wonderful that your Arthur turned out to be the great legendary Slowking?"
"That's so cool," Misty says.
And Mew says, "Besides, whenever you want to see Arthur, you can come visit, right?"
"Yeah, not many people have a king for a friend," Brock says.
"That's true. One who loves me," Alice says.
Later in the evening…
"Thank you for everything you did today, guys," Alice says.
"Yes, if it hadn't been for you and your Pokémon, Arthur may not have made it to the King's Rock," Prof. Telesu says.
"I don't know, we didn't really do that much," Mew says.
Then Alice says, "We'll be sure to keep a close watch over this paradise and make sure that nothing ever happens to it."
"Cool," Tomo says.
"I hope we meet again someday," Jen says.
And Brock comes out to Alice and takes her hands, "Of course we will, Alice. Someday you and I will find our own paradise and then we can…"
But before Brock can finish, Brock is grabbed and pulled away by the ear, and by none other than Misty.
Brock cries out, "Ah! My ear!
Misty says, "Can it, Casanova."
"Goodbye," Brock says.
Mew sheepishly chuckles, "I guess we're leaving now. But, goodbye."
Mew and the others say their goodbyes and take their leave.
Alice says their goodbyes, "Bye, you guys!"
"Be careful!" The professor says.
"Say goodbye to the Slowpoke for us!" Misty says.
"We'll see ya!" Brock says.
Having seen the amazing Slowking legend with their own eyes, as well as the move of the Slowpokes to their paradise, Mew and her friends now continue their journey toward Mt. Silver.
