Episode 131: Talkin' 'Bout an Evolution
Mew and her friends are closing in to Mahogany Town, and Mew is determined to win her seventh badge. As of now, Mew and the others are walking through a forest.
"I can't wait for my next gym battle and earn my seventh badge," Mew says.
"Eevee Eevee," (And then we'll need one more.) Eevee says.
"Pika Pikachu!" (And it's off to the Johto League,) Pikachu adds.
Suddenly, Pikachu and Eevee begin to feel sick.
"Pikachu? Eevee?" Mew replies, confused and concerned.
Soon, Togepi and Sparkle begin to feel sick too. Same with Amaura, Meloetta, and Skwovet.
"Togepi? Sparkle? What's the matter?" Misty asks, worried.
"Meloetta, Skwovet, are you feeling okay?" Tomo asks.
"Amaura, are you sick?" Jen asks.
Misty touches Togepi and Sparkle's forehead
"That's strange. They don't feel feverish," Misty says.
"Yeah. The Pokemon aren't looking good.
Suddenly, a Caterpie, a Weedle, and a Spinarak drop down.
Misty gasps, "Guys, look at the Bug Pokemon.
And what they see is that the three Pokemon are looking sick too. A Ratata and an Oddish soon come out, looking the same way.
"Looks like all the Pokemon in this forest are feeling sick, and not just our Pokemon," Brock says.
"I wonder what's going on," Molly says, worried.
"I'm sure we'll figure something out," Mew says.
Suddenly, a roar grabs their attention.
"So, what. What was that sound, guys?" Misty asks.
Mew listens in on the roaring, "I might have an idea what it is. Let's go see."
Mew and the others follow the sound and find themselves in front of a massive lake.
"Check out that lake!" Tomo says.
"I'm sure I heard that sound coming from this direction," Brock says.
Suddenly, a giant Red Gyarados bursts from the water, and a red one at that.
Everyone exclaims, "A Gyarados!"
The red Gyarados starts thrashing around.
"I've never seen a red Gyarados before," Jen says.
"I wonder if it's so red because it's angry," Tomo says.
"Whatever the reason, I've never seen that before!" Brock says.
"First our Pokemon and the Pokemon in the forest are sick, and now we found an angry Gyarados," Misty says.
Soon, the red Gyarados start firing Hydro Pump, but Mew and the others avoid it.
"I think that Gyarados might be sick, too!" Brock says.
"Yeah. It's sure acting like it," Tomo says.
But Mew says, "I'm not sure if it's sick. It looks like it's in pain."
"Sick, pain, or not, I think we better get out of here, fast!" Misty says.
"Well, I agree we should get the younger ones out of the area, but I'll stay and help it," Mew says.
"But Mew, it's too dangerous…" Brock says.
But suddenly, "Hold on!"
Everyone looks to the right and sees someone flanked by two Team Rocket grunts.
The man says, "I regret to inform you that since you've actually seen that red Gyarados, you can't leave."
Mew soon notices the letter, "Hey, that letter!"
It's Team Rocket!" The group says.
"So you're aware of us, now, are you?" The man questions.
Then brings out a Pokeball, "Just another reason why I wouldn't dream of letting you leave. Fearow, go!"
Soon, Fearow comes out of the Pokeball.
"That's how you want it? Totodile!" Mew says and calls Totodile.
Totodile comes out of the Pokeball.
Then Mew says. "Okay, Totodile, Water Gun!"
However, before Totodile can fire, it, too, falls sick.
"Totodile, do you feel sick, too?!" Mew asks, worried and picks him up.
The man chuckles and says, "Fearow! Drill Peck attack, let's go!"
Fearow then dives right for the group, but Mew acts herself as a shield to protect Totodile. But before the attack can occur, out of nowhere, a Thunder Wave strikes it down as a trainer lands on the battlefield on a Dragonite. And soon, someone else lands on the ground, and it's someone they're familiar with.
"It's Lance!" Misty says, surprised.
Indeed it's Lance, one of the Elite Four.
He turns to Mew and the others, "Hey, you guys! Turn and run back into the woods, hurry!"
"Okay," Mew says and calls back her Pokemon, "Totodile, return!"
Soon, Mew and her friends run off into the woods.
Soon, the leader of the gang begins the pursuit, "They must not escape! Get em!"
But Lance says, "Dragonite, make sure that you stop them!"
Dragonite agrees and uses Whirlwind to do so before both the Dragonite and its trainer fly off.
The man angrily says, "I'll get you! The next time we meet will be the last time!"
Soon, both Lance and his Dragonite land in the forest before Mew and the others.
"Everyone, okay?" Lance asks.
"We sure are. It's great to see you again, Lance," Mew says.
"You too, Mew," Lance says and hops off of Dragonite.
"Thank you for saving us," Misty says.
Soon, Mew's Pikachu feels better and says, "Pikachu." (Yeah, thank you.)
Even Eevee starts to feel better.
"Pikachu. Eevee. Are you feeling a little better?" Mew asks.
Pikachu and Eevee happily answer with a nod.
Soon, the other Pokemon start to feel better.
Then Lance asks, "So tell me, how did you guys end up wandering in the forest?"
"We were trying to get to Mahogany Town so I can compete in a gym battle, but we ended up running into trouble," Mew says.
"Still, it's great to see you again, Lance," Tomo says.
"Yeah. And I see your group got bigger since I last saw you," Lance says.
"Right. Lance, this is Jen, her Pokemon Amaura, and this is Molly," Mew says.
"Hello," The girls replies.
Even Amaura replies.
"It's nice to meet you, I'm Lance," Lance says.
"But, what in the world is someone like you doing out here?" Misty asks.
"Yeah. What are you doing in Johto?" Brock adds.
"I'm investigating, as one of the Pokemon G-Men, I'm here to uncover any foul play at the Lake of Rage," Lance says
"A Pokemon G-Man?" Molly questions.
"That's right. Our main purpose as a detective unit is to travel the countryside, investigating and arresting anyone who improperly treats Pokemon," Lance says. "It appears to me that Team Rocket is up to no good, as usual, with some kind of experiment going on here at the Lake of Rage."
"You know what kind?" Mew asks.
"I have a strong hunch, it has something to do with that red Gyarados you guys saw," Lance says.
"We'll help you out. We dealt with Team Rocket before, we can you," Mew says.
But Lance refuses, "No way. The forest is a very dangerous place with lots of twists and turns, and I couldn't take responsibility for what might happen to all of you." Then points to the path, "I must insist you follow this path, and you'll get to the riverbank that will lead you all to Mahogany Town."
"But we really want to help," Mew says.
"I'm sorry, but no," Lance says.
"Okay," Mew replies, disappointed.
Meanwhile, beneath the waters of the Lake of Rage, the red Gyarados is seen, and it looks like it's in pain.
Meanwhile, the failure threesome are seen wandering around: Jessie, James, and Meowth.
"I'm so hungry," James says.
"Those twerps are so ridiculous going around, getting lost all the time," Jessie says.
"What's more ridiculous? Getting lost or us following dem getting lost?" Meowth questions.
Wobbuffet tries to say something, but Jessie recalls it just as quickly, "Is that a trick question, Meowth? Because, if it is, I'm not in the mood."
Meowth looks to his left and sees something, "Hey. Dat's a weird looking farmhouse."
"Did you say farmhouse?" Jessie questions, "That means farmers." and soon becomes determined, "And where there're farmers, there's food!"
Soon, Meowth becomes determined, "Farm or no farm, dere's gotta be some grub in dere! So let's get going and get feasting!"
"Music to my ears! Let's eat!" James happily says.
"And I have an appetite that can't be beat," Jessie says.
Soon, Wobuffet appears, "Wobbu! Wobbuffet!" (Come on! Let's pig out!)
Inside the building however, are several scientists and the Team Rocket members from earlier, indicating that it's a Team Rocket base.
The man from before says, "Professor Sebastian. It seems your project is a complete success."
The scientist, Prof. Sebastian says, "I thank you for your optimism, Tyson, but we still have work to do to perfect the radio wave, since this red Gyarados is the only Pokemon that has successfully evolved, it demands further study. But once our data is complete, we will be able to construct a radio wave that will work on all Pokemon."
The man, Tyson says, "And when that day finally comes, we'll have created the most powerful Pokemon army!"
"Unfortunately, our current equipment is not sufficient enough to go to the lake's bottom and capture that Gyarados," Prof. Sebastian: says.
So, that means, we must somehow lure Gyarados to the surface?" Tyson questions.
"That is our task," Prof. Sebastian answers.
Soon, a Team Rocket Grunt walks over, "Excuse me, sir!
"What?!" Tyson questions.
"Intruders!" The Grunt answers.
"Terrific!" Tyson says, annoyed.
Shall we take a look?" Prof. Sebastian says.
They so so on the big screen via a hidden camera in a Persian statue, showing it's Jessie and James.
"All I see are Persians, where are the provisions?" James says.
Well, the first thing we do is to find out where they keep their kitchen," Jessie says.
But Meowth says, "Someting's strange here. I got dis funny feeling dat we we're being watched since we got here."
Jessie and James look around.
"I don't see how," Jessie says.
"Look around," James says.
"There's nothing but these awful statues as far as the eye can see," Jessie says.
"Granted, they are an exceptional replica," James says and puts his hand on one, "But they're just stone."
But suddenly, the statue's eyes glow red and bars down both in front of and behind them.
"What's this?! Let, us, out!" Jessie cries out.
"We didn't do it! We were framed!" James screams.
"We're innocent!" Meowth cries out.
Tyson and his goons come in.
"You've got nerve breaking and entering this top secret Team Rocket research facility, now, don't you?" Tyson says.
Jessie, James and Meowth exclaim, "You're Team Rocket?"
"Oh, goody. So then, you're one of us," James says.
"That's right, and are we happy to meet you," Jessie says.
But Tyson says, "I don't know how you clowns managed to get past our security like you did, but, I demand to know who you are this instant!"
And with that, Team Rocket begins their motto.
Jessie:
Prepare for trouble and a nice surprise!
James:
Make it double with an order of fries!
Jessie:
To protect our tummies from rumbling too much!
James:
To enjoy our meals with a gourmet touch!
Jessie:
To denounce the evils of excessive hunger and thirst!

To consume so much food you think you might burst!

Team Rocket, blast off in search of wonderful treats!
James:
Surrender now, or prepare to fork over tons of your sweets!
Meowth:
Meowth... yeah, let's eat!
Wobbuffet:
WOBBUFFET! (It's chow time!)
Soon, the Rocket Grunt confirms, "I logged on our Team Rocket central computer's main database and, sure enough, they are legit."
"What are their names?" Tyson questions.
"Jessie, James and, uh. A Meowth. They've recently been demoted to rookie level and are making zero contributions to the organization," The grunt says.
"Hey! I take issue with that!" Jessie shouts.
"That's just not right! Zero is a gross exaggeration, we are at least 2 to 3% worth while!" James shouts angrily.
Meowth says, "Yeah! We're da ones who put da rock in Team Rocket!"
"Wobbuffet!" (That's the truth!) Wobbuffet adds.
"One more thing. It says you'll do almost anything for a meal," Tyson says.
With a snap of Tyson's fingers, the front bars raise up.
Then Tyson says, "We could use an extra hand or two on this Project R. Come with me."
A bit later, the threesome are seen chowing down.
"This, is heaven," Jessie happily says.
"Not only are they filling our tummies, but they're filling our sagging egos with a REAL Team Rocket task," James says.
"Yeah. Finally, Members. Of. Team. Rocket," Meowth says.
Tyson and Professor Sebastian come in.
"I think you've had more than enough. Time to earn your keep, so let's go!" Tyson says.
James stands up, "I'm with you. Let's boogie!"
"Show me where, and I'll be dere!" Meowth says.
Soon, Jessie notices the man and asks, "Hey, who's that pointy little man behind you?"
"This is Professor Sebastian, the driving force behind Project R," Tyson says.
"A bit smarty, don't you think?" Jessie questions.
"You've mentioned that Project R before," James says.
"What's it mean? Come clean!" Meowth asks, eagerly.
"Put in layman's terms, Project R will put Team Rocket on the cutting edge of Pokemonistic science," Prof. Sebastian says.
"Well, that's about as clear as mud," James says.
"Yeah, but it sounds mighty impressive," Meowth says.
"So, how do we fit in with all this stuff?" Jessie asks.
"There's a certain Gyarados that needs capturing," Tyson says.
Jessie, James and Meowth exclaim in shock, "What?! Have you popped your cork?!"
Prof. Sebastian says, "Way down at the bottom of the Lake of Rage lives a red Gyarados, and you must capture it."
"And please remember that if you do succeed, your names will live on in Team Rocket infamy. How does that sound?" Tyson replies.
Jessie, James and Meowth say, "That sounds pretty cool. You've got yourself a deal, bub!"
"The prospect of fame and fortune coupled with an eternal life simply overwhelms me!" James says.
Instead of dose Poisian statues, they'll be making us statues!" Meowth says.
Wobb-uffet!" (For the glory!) Wobbuffet says.
Outside the complex…
Lance is sneaking around the area. He then grabs a grunt and takes his clothes.
Meanwhile, Mew and the others continue to walk the trail.
"Lance was right about this riverbank, so Mahogany Town must be right around the bend from here," Brock says.
Mew suddenly stops
"Is something bothering you, Mew?" Misty asks.
"It just… I'm worried about that Gyarados," Mew says.
"The Gyarados…?" Tomo asks.
Then with determination, Mew says, "I gotta go back."
"Back where?" Molly asks.
"I gotta go back to the Lake of Rage! That Gyarados needs help," Mew says.
This shocked the group.
"You can't! Lance said it was too dangerous," Misty advises.
"I know, but I can't leave that Gyarados there. Knowing that it's in pain and being targeted by Team Rocket," Mew says. "That poor red Gyarados was upset and in a lot of pain. I just have to do something. And if Team Rocket's involved, who knows what they're up to?!"
"You're right," Misty says.
"Yeah, that Gyarados problem may be just the tip of the iceberg if Team Rocket's involved," Brock says, "It can't just be the Gyarados Team Rocket wants. If we don't try to stop them, they could hurt other Pokemon as well! And that could mean your Pokemon."
This shocked everyone, and they know Brock is right.
"Oh no. If anything ever happened to my sweet little Togepi… and my Sparkle," Misty says.
Jen hugs Amaura, "Amaura."
"And they'll end up hurting a lot more Pokemon, including ours, and our family," Tomo says.
Soon, Misty says, "You're right, Mew! We can't let this happen!"
"Yeah. Let's go to the Lake of Rage!" Jen says.
"And go stop Team Rocket!" Jen adds.
"Alright, they're not gonna get away with hurting Pokémon," Mew says, determined.
Soon, Mew and her friends begin to head off to the Lake to find the Gyarados and stop Team Rocket.
Out on the lake water, aboard a Team Rocket commandeered boat while Lance waits.
A Rocket Grunt #1 says, "Approaching target depth."
"Stopping engine!" Rocket Grunt #2 says.
Soon, the boat comes to a stop.
"Ladies and gentlemen, it's showtime," Tyson says. Then commands, "Assume your stations."
The Rocket Grunts say on the radio, "Yes, sir!"
As for the bumbling threesome, they prepare to do their part.
Tyson says on the radio, "Jessie, James, Meowth, ready?!"
"Check," The three answers.
Jessie turns to her friends, "Are you ready? All we do is bring that Gyarados up for air and we make Team Rocket history."
"But Jessie, why don't they just throw a Pokéball to grab that Gyarados?" James asks.
"Dis is experimental material! It needs to be caught whilst wild," Meowth says.
"Finally, I'm a star! It's a chance to show the boss I belong with the big boys now!" Jessie says and puts in the air tube, "For duty, boss and country."
"Aye-aye!" The boys answer.
The three dive in.
"Target, Gyarados. Grabbing depth, 70 meters. Now dive!" Jessie says.
James heads down, "Roger!" He then looks back and sees Jessie and Meowth not following, "What happened? Did I have a premature start?"
"No, one of us has to oversee this operation from afar," Jessie answers.
"Yeah, and I have to oversee the overseer," Meowth says.
"What?!" James asks in shock, but quickly realizes, "Oh, now I see. You're both afraid of that red Gyarados."
This shocked the pair.
"Well! I resent that remark. I'm afraid of absolutely nothing!" Jessie says.
Then Meowth says, "I tink dat you're da chicken of da sea, James!"
"Ha! No upstanding member of Team Rocket would be scared of a little Gyarados!" James says with confidence, "Besides, what are the odds of running into that runt in this large lake?"
As James brags and boasts, the red Gyarados shows up behind him, causing Jessie and Meowth to panic.
"Your scare tactics are becoming a little too old, folks. There's no way that that…" James ays, but soon he sees the red Gyarados.
Then James begins to panic.
Jessie cries out, "Gyarados, dead ahead!"
The red Gyarados pursues Team Rocket all the way to the surface.
Rocket Grunt notifies, "Captain! The target is approaching at full speed!"
"Well, those fools can be useful in spite of themselves," Tyson says.
"Are you sure that our capture net is strong enough?" Prof. Sebastian asks.
"No need to worry. It's been reinforced to withstand even a Steelix," Tyson says.
Soon, the capture net is seen and ready to fire.
Back underwater, the trio swim for their lives.
"Nice, Gyarados!" Jessie says.
"Down, boy!" James says.
They all soon surface.
Tyson announces, "Okay! Release the net immediately!"
Soon, the net fires and ensnares the Gyarados.
"There's been some mistake!" James cries out.
"Initiate shock!" Tyson shouts.
The net suddenly becomes electrified/
Jessie, James and Meowth cry out, "Hey! We're on your side!"
The red Gyarados falls.
"Gyarados capture complete," Tyson says.
"Perfect. Let us now proceed to the laboratory," Prof. Sebastian says.
Team Rocket pulls the Gyarados to shore as Mew and the others rush over.
"Guys, look!" Mew cries out.
The group looks to see the incident.
"I think we're too late!" Molly says.
"That poor Gyarados looks like it's unconscious," Misty says.
The Pokemon is shocked to see this.
But Brock notices, "But wait! Isn't that Jessie, James and Meowth?!"
"What happened to them?" Molly asks.
"I don't know, but we can't let them get away with this," Mew says, and brings out her Pokeball, "Totodile, let's go!"
She then throws her Pokeball and allows him to come out.
Mew calls out, "Totodile, go and help that Gyarados, fast!"
Totodile agrees and dives in.
Misty then calls out, "Poliwhirl, you're up!"
And Poliwhirl comes out
Tomo then calls out, "Go Sealeo!"
Then Jen, "Alright Quagsire, I choose you!"
"Go Kingdra!" Molly calls out.
Soon, Sealeo, Quagsire, and Kingdra come out of their Pokeballs.
"Quick everyone, follow Totodile!" Misty calls out.
Soon, Poliwhirl and the others begin to follow Totodile and all the Pokemon quickly catch up to the Red Gyarados.
Meowth is the first to notice, "Hey, look, it's da twoips' Pokémon."
Two of the three Pokemon proceed to grab the net while Totodile accidentally bites Jessie's hair
Jessie yelps, "Ouch! Hey, watch the hairdo! We do appreciate the help, but ow!"
On the boat…
"Hey, where did those other Pokémon come from?" Prof. Sebastian questions.
Tyson soon spots Mew and the others as Lance slightly approaches.
Tyson says, "It's those kids! Looks like they're trying to interfere once again."
"Mew and the others? Why did you come back?" Lance says in thought.
"Quite alright. Prof. Sebastian says, "This could become more interesting," Then gets out radio, "This is Sebastian, broadcast the evolution inducement wave."
"Evolution inducement what?" Lance says in thought.
At another location…
The Team Rocket Grunt says, "Angle zero, two, four! Commencing broadcast!"
The broadcast begins, causing the Pokemon to let go of the net while Meowth loses his marbles.
"Meowth, are you alright? What's going on?" Jessie asks.
"I tink I'm gonna take a nappy-poo," Meowth answers feeling tied, and is soon knocked out.
"Meowth, you capsized!" James cries out.
On the shore...
"Hey, what's going on here?" Tomo asks.
"The Pokémon look sick!" Misty says.
"Something's wrong!" Mew says.
Call all of them back, now!" Brock says.
Soon, everyone does just that and calls back their Pokemon. But soon, Pikachu, Eevee, and the others begin to fall ill.
"Togepi. Sparkle. What's wrong?" Misty asks.
"Pikachu! Eevee!" Mew says, worried.
Jen holds Amaura as the poor Pokemon collapses, "Amaura, are you okay?"
"Meloetta. Skwovet," Tomo adds, holding his Pokemon in his arms.
"It's just like before!" Brock says, and soon realizes, "Wait, I've got it! That Gyarados and Pikachu and Togepi are all affected by that experiment Lance was talking about!"
"You're right. And it's making all the Pokemon get sick," Jen says.
"The question remains…" Mew says.
"What experiment is it?" Tomo adds.
Suddenly, something flies right at Mew and the others and captures them.
Soon, Tyson approaches on a motor boat with a laugh, "Well, I'll say this much for you lot, you sure are persistent. But now you know a bit too much about our business for my taste. So you'll be our permanent guests!"
Later, at the facility, the red Gyarados is being lifted up while Jessie and James beam with glee.
"Okay, it was a rough go for a bit, but all's well that ends well," Jessie says.
"And now our names will go down forever in the annals of Team Rocket!" James says.
Mew shouts in anger, "Hey, you! What do you think you're going to do with that poor red Gyarados?!"
"Seeing as you're going to be our permanent guests, I can see no harm in enlightening you about Project R," Professor Sebastian says.
"Project R?" Molly questions.
"What's that?" Mew questions.
"Short for Project Revolution," Prof. Sebastian answers, "It's a revolutionary new system that allows Team Rocket, to actually manipulate a Pokémon's evolution."
"Manipulate evolution?" Lance says in thought.
"Control evolution?!" Brock says in shock.
"You can't! That's interfering with nature!" Misty says.
"What you're doing is awful!" Jen says.
"So then that means, this Gyarados was actually…" Mew says, realizing in shock.
"You are correct," The professor says and points to the Gyarados, "That Gyarados. That Gyarados is undeniable proof that our evolution inducement wave is a complete success in every sense of the word.
And the red Gyarados is lowered into a tank.
"Evolution inducement wave?!" Everyone says in shock.
"Just as soon as we had focused my beautiful new invention into the Lake of Rage, there appeared a single Magikarp who promptly evolved into a Gyarados," The professor says.
"But… how… how could you that to it?" Mew asks, shocked and really upset.
"Thanks to you, we have also learned that our wave can be used as a weapon," the professor says.
"Thanks to your Pokémon, we should say," Tyson says.
The group looks at their Pokemon who are sick.
"That's why Meowth looked so cute," James says.
"If they kept aiming that wave thing at us, wouldn't Meowth have evolved into a Persian?" Jessie questions.
"I'm impressed. Team Rocket is really at the forefront of science," James says.
"It's a bit rude that you conducted this groundbreaking research without letting us know," Jessie says.
However, Prof. Sebastian says, "But there's still a few bugs left to be worked out. You see, that red color of Gyarados is most likely a lingering trait from its Magikarp stage. As soon as we can make a thorough examination of Gyarados, we can complete our Evolution Inducement Wave. Then we'll just evolve all Pokémon stronger and stronger, allowing us to create the ultimate Pokémon army."
"You think you're getting away with that?!" Mew angrily says.
"Real evolution needs time, not force!" Brock says.
"Your plan will never, ever work!" Misty says.
But Tyson says, "Complain all you like, there's not much you folks can do about it, now, is there?"
And soon, everyone has been placed in a cage. All except Mew who is being held by the Team Rocket Grunts. Pikachu, Eevee are left in the cell.
"Oh, yeah?! Well, you just wait!" Tomo shouts.
"Let us out of here!" Misty demands.
"You know, I'd love to stay and chat, but you look, a little tied up," Tyson says and laughs.
"What do you plan to do with Mew?" Brock demands.
"Let's say the professor would like her to assist him with something," Tyson says.
Then Tyson and the goons leave the room, forcing Mew to go with them.
Meanwhile, in the cafeteria, Jessie and James have another feast.
"Once our examination of Gyarados is complete, I'll be back to collect the equipment. So keep an eye on it," Tyson says.
"Everything will be fine, don't you worry," Jessie says.
"We'll treat all your toys like they're our own," James says.
"Wobbuffet! (We promise.) Wobbuffet says.
Tyson shrugs, "How did they even make it this far?"
Meanwhile, the red Gyarados is seen being put into a truck with Professor Sebastian and Tyson on board.
Rocket Grunt informs, "The Gyarados is loaded and ready for transport."
"Alright, let's move!" Tyson says.
The truck moves out with a convoy protecting it, in one of the cars in the convoy is Lance. Mew is sitting in one of the cars being watched by the Team Rocket Grunts.
