In this chapter, our heroes will go to Oho Oasis.

Mario and Luigi weren't here for long…but something very important happened there.

Do you remember?

Chapter 32: Oho Ho Ho

Our heroes came across a jungle village.

It was home to Toads, along with some Yoshis. The latter of which made Alistair feel at home.

And there were also some Shy Guys.

The locals warned them that there were poisonous enemies in the Soda Jungle.

And there was toxic water as well.

So it would be best if our heroes were ready to handle these obstacles.

There was also gear shops as usual.

"You'll want to be prepared for the jungle! I heard there's a dragon out there!" exclaimed the shopkeeper. Unsurprisingly, she had taken up residence in a castle.

Since the next level had poisonous enemies, Jessica decided to take Peach with her.

She seemed like a good party member to counteract the poison.

She had bought a new frying pan recently.

It was known as the Jungle Pan.

Luigi bought a new hammer as well.

It was known as the Rainforest Hammer.

Bridge over Poisoned Waters

The level was filled with purple water…water that was unsuitable for drinking. Luckily, the heroes decided to listen to the locals.

If they wanted a drink, they would decidedly want to look elsewhere. Like at the village.

"Something tells me we shouldn't go swimming in that water." noted Jessica. That did not sound safe.

Luckily, there was a raft they could use.

But even in such a toxic environment, there were still monsters lurking about.

Some Toxic Zombies emerged from the purple water.

It seemed appropriate that poisonous enemies were in this level.

"More zombies?" asked Luigi.

"Yeah. But these zombies are stronger than the ones we fought earlier." explained Jessica. This made them a tad harder to deal with.

One of the zombies bit DK.

"Ow!" exclaimed DK.

"Tastes like bananas!" shouted one of the Toxic Zombies.

DK ended up being poisoned.

He felt like he had eaten a banana that wasn't ripe. Luckily, most of the bananas in his banana horde were ripe.

Jessica tossed an antidotal herb.

DK gave her a banana in return.

"Thanks!" exclaimed Jessica.

Perhaps this banana would restore her HP.

That was how mushrooms worked in Mario RPGs.

Peach used her healing magic to attack the Toxic Zombies.

There were also Iron Scorpions.

It was a bit surprising to see them outside of a desert.

But they still fit the theme of the level.

One of them attempted to sting them.

But Luigi zapped him with Thunderhand, preventing him.

"Ow!" exclaimed an Iron Scorpion. Why did his armor have to be conductable? Then again, rubber armor would likely make squeaky noises.

Some Flythons slithered towards our heroes.

Our heroes had to be careful not to get constricted by them.

In addition to being bitten by them, of course.

"I remember seeing one in the desert." noted Jessica.

As usual, the guardians they had faced earlier were now attacking in greater numbers.

Some Crested Vipers were roaming the jungle level as well.

They were not as strong as Flythons, but they were faster to compensate.

One attempted to bite Peach on the ankle.

But she kicked him off the raft and into the water.

"Instead of tasting heroes I'm tasting defeat!" exclaimed the fallen Pit Viper.

Our heroes could see the flagpole in the distance. It seemed they were getting close.

Our heroes discovered Killer Gilas when they boarded their raft.

These lizards too were poisonous.

They also came in two different colors, but there didn't seem to be any differences between the two types.

"I was under the impression you would be in a desert." noted Jessica. Though one could say the same for the scorpions.

"We figured the jungle would be nice." answered a gila.

One of the Killer Gilas attempted to bite DK.

But he punched him away.

"When did they get a gorilla on their side?" asked one of the gilas.

That was new.

Last but not least was a Jade Dragon.

This dragon had toxic breath, aside from the flames.

Luckily, it wasn't nearly as strong as the Rashaverak was.

But taking him down was a group effort.

The raft arrived on the flagpole.

But there was one last obstacle for them to overcome.

This time, the guardian was a King Bubble Slime.

He too was a poisonous monster.

However, he had the potential to poison the entire party at once.

So they needed to be a bit more careful around him.

But on the lighter side, he didn't have protection, as with the case of the King Slime they had encountered back in World 4.

After all, he was the guardian of one of the easier jungle levels.

"I'm king of the swamp!" exclaimed King Bubble Slime.

"Good for you!" complimented Jessica.

"It's too bad I have to fight you." noted the king. Rashaverak had ordered him to do so. And he didn't want to displease her.

"For a toxic slime you don't act as such." acknowledged Luigi.

"Don't judge a book by its cover." answered the bubble slime.

The King Bubble Slime fired toxic bubbles at our heroes.

But lucky for our heroes, they were expecting that.

After all, was he not a bubble slime?

Donkey Kong punched the king.

He might be king of the bubble slimes, but he was king of the jungle.

"Ow!" exclaimed the king. Our heroes seemed to have a knack for finding all sorts of allies.

The king of the bubble slimes slammed into DK in retaliation.

"Oof!" exclaimed DK.

He then fired more bubbles.

"Oh a-no!" shouted Luigi.

He got poisoned.

Peach quickly cured him.

It was the least she could do after he saved Mario from King Boo more than once. She really appreciated Luigi making sure his brother did not remain a painting forever.

Though a painting of Mario would look great in a museum.

DK fired coconuts at the King Bubble Slime.

However, some Wild Slimes showed up to assist the king. They seemed pretty appropriate for a jungle world.

They also had feral cousins, but they had only appeared in one DQ game.

The wild slimes tackled DK to the ground.

"Get off!" demanded the gorilla with a tie.

Luigi hammered the Wild Slimes off of DK.

The Wild Slimes decided to retreat.

The King Bubble Slime summoned a toxic slime geyser, but our heroes dodged it.

DK then discovered some crystal coconuts growing on a tree.

He was very happy to see them.

Now he could use his special ability.

Using the crystal coconuts, DK suddenly grew bigger.

"What is going on?" asked the king of slimes.

DK then attacked the King Bubble Slime in his enhanced state.

This attack was too much for him to handle.

The King Bubble Slime decided to admit defeat.

The heroes had proven themselves to be strong.

So he would stand aside.

"You can pass…but I would leave if I were you. There's a hydra up ahead!" exclaimed the king.

"We're aware of that." noted Jessica.

Luckily, she already knew what the weakness of a hydra was.

So she imagined they stood a chance against him.

Meanwhile, in the Beanbean Kingdom…

Our heroes came across Lakipeas.

They acted like Lakitus, but summoned Sharpeas instead of Spinies.

If they weren't careful, they could end up being swarmed.

Luckily, Ashlynn could shoot them down.

"Mayday! Mayday!" exclaimed a Lakipea.

Our heroes came across a yellow pipe.

"It looks like this yellow pipe leads underwater." noted Alena.

Perhaps this was the way to Oho Oasis.

It was worth a look.

But before they went down the pipe, they decided to take care of the nearby Bowser Baddies.

The less minions Bowser had, the better.

Nearby were some Bulky Bob-Ombs.

These Bob-Ombs were bigger than normal, so they packed a bigger boom than usual. So they had to be more cautious. It might be a good idea to try fighting them from a distance.

Also, for some reason, these Bob-Ombs were pink.

"Real Bob-Ombs are pink!" exclaimed a Bulky Bob-Omb.

"It sure is a nice color for you." said Kiryl.

"Thanks!" exclaimed the abnormally big Bob-Omb.

In addition to the Bob-Ombs, there were also Paratroopeas. They too had the power to heal. It was a shame they weren't on their side, because it would be great to be healed after an explosion.

Last but not least, there were Tanoombas.

They had the power to shapeshift, so they were unpredictable. They were definitely more dangerous than regular Goombas.

Perhaps not all Goombas were weak.

One of them shapeshifted into a Thwomp, then attempted to fall on our heroes.

"Whoa!" exclaimed Ruff. That Tanoomba had almost hit him. That was scary.

"Darn it! I missed!" shouted the Tanoomba, who turned back to normal.

The Tanoomba's shapeshifting ability sure was powerful. Though their shapeshifting wore off after a period of time.

However, their tails turned out to be their weak spots. And there was a time limit to their shapeshifting.

"I heard you made it into Partners in Time." noted Nera. So had the Boos, though they lacked the iron defense they had in the previous game.

"We sure did! We're proud of ourselves!" exclaimed a Tanoomba. Though for whatever reason Nintendo decided not to remake Partners in Time like they had remade Superstar Saga.

After fighting the baddies, our heroes decided it was time to save the Oho Jees.

As it turned out, the yellow pipe did lead straight to the Oho Ocean.

Underwater were several more members of the Koopa Troop.

Perhaps they were aware that they would try to save the Oho Oasis. After all, they already knew that their good deeds hadn't gone unnoticed. And the Beanbean Kingdom's residents weren't the only ones that had noticed them.

The Bowser Baddies ranged from Bloopers to Cheep Cheeps.

"Bloop bloop!" exclaimed one of the Bloopers.

"I was under the impression Cheep Cheeps would be bird enemies." noted Kiryl.

"Well, we do look like birds." pointed out a Cheep Cheep.

Sometimes, the Cheep Cheeps would become Puffer Cheeps.

When that happened, our heroes needed to change their strategy, because they went from floating to being spiky.

Some Goombas had taken to diving underwater as well.

Perhaps this was how they had decided to spend their vacation.

Aside from ? Blocks, there wasn't any treasure to be found underwater…unfortunately for them.

"How come you don't need diving gear?" asked a Goomdiver.

"Maybe you don't need diving gear." suggested Ruff.

"I'm not going to risk it." answered the diver. It was better safe than sorry.

Considering that two of the party members were spellcasters, he wouldn't be surprised if they knew a water breathing spell.

These Goombas were stronger than their usual brethren. Perhaps they had trained to be competent fighters. They still had predictable attack patterns, however.

Oddly enough, there were also Pestnuts underwater as well. It seemed they weren't exclusive to the Chucklehuck Woods.

These Pestnuts were purple in color.

It seemed they could breathe underwater for whatever reason.

But when the Beanies lost their leaves, they immediately floated to the top of the ocean.

"Our underwater adventure was nice while it lasted." noted one of the Beanies. It was time to go back to the surface. Maybe he could go to the Chucklehuck Woods and have some fruit.

"See you around!" exclaimed Alena.

"Bye!" exclaimed the said Beanie.

Our heroes saw another yellow pipe.

Apparently, that led to Oho Oasis.

Our heroes saw a sign.

It read "Oho Oasis" with an arrow pointing to the yellow pipe.

Their hunch turned out to be right.

That pipe did indeed lead to the oasis.

It was nice to see the sunlight again after being in the ocean.

The locals were certainly on edge.

One of the Oho Jees approached them.

She was a blue Oho Jee.

And she was sweating.

She had a request to give them.

"Help us, please! Oasis invaded! Koopa Klan here!" exclaimed one of the Oho Jees.

It seemed that the Oho Jees spoke in broken English.

Still, they could tell the oasis had been invaded. And they could still make out what the Oho Jee was saying.

They could see there were Bowser Baddies nearby.

"Don't worry, we're going to handle things." explained Alena.

"We sure are!" exclaimed Peasley.

"You are heroes! You have gratitude!" shouted the Blue Oho Jee.

This time, there were Amps our heroes had to fight.

They surrounded themselves with electricity, so attacking them up close was a bad idea.

"Ouch!" exclaimed Ruff. For a moment, his skeleton was visible. And yes, he had tried that. It wasn't his smartest moment.

On the other hand, Nera got the feeling water would work well against these electrical enemies.

Everyone knew that water and electricity did not mix.

"Oh no! I'm shorting out!" exclaimed an Amp. Being charged up came with its disadvantages, it seemed.

Apparently, Bowser Baddies that used fire weren't the only ones weak to water.

Speaking of which, there were Fire Bros. in the area as well.

They figured the beach would be a fun place to be.

One of the locals was in trouble because of them.

"Save me! Koopas chasing me!" exclaimed a red Oho Jee…though one could argue he was orange and not red.

Water worked well to put out their flames, which wasn't surprising.

"Aw, man!" exclaimed one of the Fire Brothers. Now he was a smoke bro. And he didn't think that was as exciting.

"Many thanks!" shouted the Red Oho Jee in distress.

The heroes noticed there were two temples up ahead. They seemed to be dedicated to two different gods.

Considering that the Oho Oasis was a remote location, it was a bit surprising to see them.

Perhaps some of the Bowser Baddies were inside.

It would be a good idea to investigate them.

A Toady saw the heroes fighting.

Rather than join the fray himself, he decided to report to Kamek, who was in a tower.

He had information that his boss would definitely want to know about.

"Lord Kamek! The heroes are here!" exclaimed the Toady.

"I had a feeling they would come." noted Kamek. They always show up whenever Bowser minions were causing trouble.

He had already marked off the spots where the heroes had struck. He already knew that the heroes had been to Woohoo Hooniversity recently. Neither Iggy or Bowser Jr. had been able to handle them.

And Oho Oasis wasn't far from the university.

Though neither was Gwarhar Lagoon.

If the minions couldn't handle things, Kamek would straighten the heroes out.

He had a spellbook full of spells he could use.

And of course, he also has his Toady minions.

They had served him well back in Yoshi's Island.

Though for whatever reason they couldn't capture Baby Mario, like they had captured the stork and Baby Luigi.

"Go out there and teach the heroes a lesson." spoke Kamek.

He wasn't going to let them thwart the invasion if he had anything to say about it.

And he had a lot to say about it, in fact.

Captain Goomba approached the high-ranking Magikoopa.

"Can I fight the heroes?" asked Captain Goomba.

He was itching for a rematch…even though he had lost to the heroes twice.

"Yes, you may." nodded Kamek. The more Bowser Baddies that agreed to fight the heroes, the better.

Captain Goomba was happy to hear that.

He took two different captains with him.

"We're fighting the heroes again?" asked Captain Shy Guy.

Captain Goomba nodded.

He was going to make Kamek proud…or at least try.

Can our heroes defeat Kamek?

It's likely that he'll be back if our heroes win against him…but why not root for them, anyways?

If you've played Superstar Saga, you probably know why I'm using fire and electric enemies for Oho Oasis.

As a side note, I forgot about Captain Goomba for a time.

But I figured it was better late than never to feature him again.

I'm welcome to ideas as usual.
