Chapter 5:
After packing everything they needed for their journey, Silver and the others were ready to set out. Earlier Silver decided that Cosmo, Honeydew, Tails, and Knuckles go to the hideout where the rest of the werewolves are gathering, which wasn't far from where they were at so they decided that Silver will take the Jeep while they walk. While he and the rest go to meet Sonia. After saying their goodbyes everyone went their separate ways. "Alright, we will meet up with you guys later after we get our answers," Silver said as everyone went their separate ways.
Silver and his group climbed into the Jeep and drove off. The rest got into the truck and drove off as well.
Meanwhile in a cave Mephiles awoke from his slumber and flew off into the night in search of Silver and his group. However, he realized that he was still weak from his early battle with Silver and decided that he would need blood in order to gain his strength back.
Back with Silver and his group they quickly arrive at the place where Sonia was living in exile. Which was in an abandoned observatory. "Are you sure we can trust Sonia? How do we know she won't betray us?" Blaze asked, breaking the silence. "She won't, she is too smart not to betray us after all she has been making deals with Amy since her exile," Rouge answered. Blaze accepted the answer and sat in silence again. Soon they drove up the building and stopped at the gate which was locked. Rouge got out of the car and walked up to the gate and opened it. Silver saw Rouge walk up to an intercom and said something before signaling to him to drive up. Meanwhile inside the building, a magenta-colored hedgehog with long pink hair and black eyes was laying on a bed and reading a book and sipping some wine when she heard Rouge speaking through the intercom. "Sonia, we need to talk," Rouge said. Sonia put her book down and walked up to the controls and said, "Alright, come in." Sonia pressed a button to open the door so Rouge could come in and then she changed from her pink nightgown to a dark red dress.
Then, she went to greet Rouge in the hallway. "Rouge, lovely to see…" Sonia said before she realized who was with Rouge. "Do not fear Sonia, they are our allies now," Rouge explained. "You could have given me a warning. Now where is Amy?" Sonia replied. "Amy is dead," Rouge answered sadly. Silver looked away in shame and guilt remembering how he killed his mother.
Sonia was shocked in hearing the news of Amy's death, but then she could help but laugh at Silver. "So, you have finally succeeded in getting your revenge only to find out the truth. And Sally you found out the truth as well. I did try to stop them, but then again what could I have done," Sonia said in a mocking voice. "That's enough Sonia. Silver has a question on why Mephlies is suddenly after the medallion that Amy carried," Rouge said as she threw the medallion to Sonia. Sonia looked at the medallion, "This medallion holds a secret that Black Doom kept from Mephiles for so long, a secret that Mephiles is dying to know. But before I can tell you what that secret is, you first must know the full truth that Black Doom was not the first of the vampires as he led everyone to believe. He was once a mortal and not just any mortal but the mortal son of Nazo and Isabelle." "Why would he lie about it," Silver said. "Maybe to hide the shame that he was once a mortal or maybe because he felt insignificant compared to his brother. Towards the end of Black Doom's life Mephiles came to his brother and offered something that was worth more than gold and silver, immortality. All in exchange for help," Sonia answered.
"Help in what," Blaze asked. "Help in capturing the first werewolf, Ulfa, the younger sister of Mephiles and Black Doom. After she was bitten, Ulfa transformed into an uncontrollable beast whose bite was so infectious that even those who died could turn into the same beast. So infectious that she created a pack of werewolves that caused nothing but destruction, so Mephiles went to his brother for help. Black Doom accepted and he and his army were turned into vampires and were successful in capturing Ulfa. Afterwards Black Doom locked Ulfa away for all eternity," Sonia answered.
"Why let her live? Especially if she caused such destruction," Sally asked. "It was said that if Ulfa were to die all of those who were turned will die with her and it was the same reason why Black Doom never went against Mephiles. Black Doom was told that if Mephiles were killed then all those he created would die along with him. It was an interesting theory, but one that Black Doom was not willing to put to the test no matter how power hungry he was. And besides Black Doom had given his word to Mephiles that Ulfa was not to be harmed."
"So, my mother and those like her came from Ulfa?" Silver asked. "Your mother was the first werewolf to be able to turn back into a mortal form and have some sense of control and with her a new type of werewolf was created." Sonia replied as she walked up to a bookcase. "Werewolves who Black Doom used as slaves but back then we were called Lycans. After we escaped from slavery they decided to just call us werewolves," Rouge said. "Yes, like Rouge these werewolves or Lycans were slaves for Black Doom and that was another reason why Ulfa was kept alive otherwise Black Doom would have lost his slaves." Sonia added as she pulled out a large book and placed it on a table. Sonia opened the book and flipped through the pages. Until Sally saw something that caught her eye and stopped Sonia from flipping the page.
"What is this?" Sally asked as she saw a picture design for a coffin and a castle. "This is Ulfa's prison, the one your family was hired to build and guard for three centuries," Sonia answered.
Both Sally and Silver suddenly had memories of when they were children following their fathers to a castle and watching them inspect the castle to make sure there was nothing out of the ordinary. "If our family was hired and faithfully did what they were told, why kill them off?" Sally asked. "Yes, why" Silver added, wanting to know why his adopted family was killed. "Because they knew too much, too much for Black Doom to risk especially when it was discovered that Amy was still alive and she had the key to Ulfa's prison," Sonia said as she held the medallion up.
Meanwhile Mephiles was flying when he saw a barn and decided to drink the blood of the animals being housed in it. Inside the barn there were sheep and cows sleeping when Mephiles crashed into the barn startling them. Soon Mephiles began to feed on every animal in the barn until there was none alive. The farmer hearing the animals quickly ran to the barn only to find his animals all dead and drained of their blood. Mephiles had left the barn before the farmer had gotten there and was flying towards where Sonia was living since, he had a hunch that Silver would head there especially if he was looking for answers about the murder of his adopted mortal family.
Back at Sonia's hideout Sally and Silver took in the truth behind the murder of their family. "This does not make any sense why kill our families, I feel like even my mother would never release a monster like Ulfa," Silver said. "Like I said your family knew too much, too much for Black Doom to risk but you are right Amy would never release Ulfa. And besides she never knew the importance of the medallion and never asked about it," Sonia replied. "So, Mephiles might be trying to release Ulfa now that Black Doom is dead?" Blaze asked. "Probably, since now he is free from Black Doom's control," Sonia replied.
"So, how should we stop him," Blaze asked. Sonia shrugged her shoulders, but then thought of something, "I do know someone who might know a way to defeat Mephiles, I believe you might have worked for them before Silver," Sonia said as she looked at Silver. "You don't mean…," Silver said before Sonia interrupted him, "Yes, that group, go to pier 78 ask for a man named Trenton he might be able to help you. And trust me when I say do not let Mephiles get a hold of this medallion if you do not want history to repeat itself." Silver nodded and motioned to everyone to leave. Everyone but Sonic and Manic left the room, Silver knew that the three siblings needed to say good-bye to each other.
Once everyone had left the room, the three siblings looked at each other in silence before Sonic decided to be the one to break the silence. "It's nice to see you again Sonia," Sonic said with a smile. "Yes, it must be considering you, Manic, and Scrouge never came to visit me after my exile. Speaking of which is he," Sonia replied in an angry tone while glaring at them. "He is dead, his greed for power was his downfall. And besides you know why we couldn't come to visit. It was already hard to hide the fact we were in league with Amy," Manic answered this time. "Yes, it must have been really hard," Sonia said sarcastically. Manic and Sonic both sighed they both knew that there was no excuse to not have visited their sister throughout her exile. "We know that we can't change the past, but when this is all over maybe we can start anew and be a real family," Manic said.
"I understand that is what Sonic would want, but face the truth Manic, you just want to create a family for Silver so he wouldn't be alone. You always did care for his mother as if she was your own child. In fact, you cared so much for her that you were willing to betray the coven just to protect her and that forbidden love she had for Shadow. And now that she is dead, you are trying so hard to atone for the guilt that you have," Sonia said as she sneered at Manic. "Do not act so high and mighty Sonia. Do not forget that it was you who set off the chains of motion. All because at the time all you wanted was a seat at the council. So do not pretend that it was just Manic," Sonic said, trying to defend his brother. Sonia glared at Sonic was about to say something when Manic broke the silence. "I won't deny that I want to protect Silver, especially because of the guilt I feel for not doing better in protecting his mother. And I won't deny that Amy was like a daughter to me, but I do want us to be a family since we were all denied that the moment we were turned. So, I asked you again to join us after this all over," Manic said as he held his hand towards Sonia.
Sonia looked at his hand before turning her back towards him and Sonic, though she could feel tears beginning to form in her eyes. "I will think about it. When I'm ready I will look for you," Sonia said as she kept her back towards her brothers. Both Sonic and Manic accepted her answer, deciding to let Sonia work out her feelings. "Then, we will wait for you. Take care sister and we are sorry that we left you alone for so long," Sonic said as he and Manic walked out of the room. Sonia felt the tears run down her cheeks before she wiped them away with her arm. She had always felt that her brothers had abandoned her after she was exiled, she felt betrayed by them especially by Manic who had helped her when she took part in the plan for Amy and Shadow to escape from Maria. A plan that had failed and set in motion the war that was currently happening. For now, Sonia planned to leave this prison and travel the world and live her life with her new freedom. Though it was a freedom that was about to end, since in that moment Mephiles was quickly heading towards her place.
