The Boss of Control - (Chainsaw Man, SI)

AN: Have to put this disclaimer early on - 1) This story happens years before the main story's events, which is why some characters will replace known ones or known ones will be either still affiliated to their previous groups; 2) I will mostly write this in a non-MC's perspective (let's call it a tiny experiment of mine for the sake of narration).

Devils are indeed some of the most unpredictable entities in a world where their powers can be 'game-changing' in the view of superpowers. But in a world that is also evolving to be more accustomed to brutality, the nature of Devils is still one that is well above the perspective of humans.

Some normal humans still believed themselves above the common Devil, but there were cases where they didn't even know how 'changed' they were. An example of that was the close-disaster that was the WWII Devil and the Nuke Devil. Both of which were devoured by what is known as the Chainsaw Devil.

That move had prevented the end of the world, but it had also left a void spot within international politics that truly 'castrated' the question 'why did this happen' in regard to modern logistics. The Soviet Union, now lacking a genuine military worry over 'forgetting' why they acquired Eastern Europe, had long switched their military efforts to support the budget of reconstruction of their broken land. And without nukes, the matters of a truly 'Cold War' was turned into less of a 'worrisome threat' to world's stability.

People died more than they could have in a reality with nukes, and the USSR was also less bloodthirsty against the uneasy division of land in Europe between Communists and Capitalists. Then again, it would be wrong for her to say that she knew history well enough to call out how things would have truly gone among nations she hardly knew much about.

But she still wondered, for memory was the one thing she had in large quantity. And paperwork, especially now that she was supposed to write a lengthy report on what she was looking at.

November 18 1983, a terrorist attack in the US had produced the Gun Devil. The culmination- no, the quintessential representation of what a 'Gun' is within the unsavory nature of a Devil. Guns were tools like other weapons, their meaning twisted by who used those.

So, what happens when the tool is sentient and lacking a preordained goal? Obviously it does what a weapon does: kill everything and everyone randomly.

Thankfully so, the aim was off or, rather, it wasn't on her. It was the sort of luck that someone like her didn't like as it could have spelled her demise for nothing. Just because.

Still, she trailed the path of destruction it created in Japan. For five minutes, the Gun Devil had shot its bullets and killed around thousands of Japanese and... definitely more all over the world. And now they were picking up the piece, wondering where to 'begin'.

The first-aid assistance was helping those caught in the collateral damage. Broken buildings, ripped cars, shredded parks. Tokyo was going through a lot. Same for half the world. Meanwhile politicians were panicking as the military called all reservists to help while the diet worked out what fully happened and potential bills to 'prevent' the next similar crisis.

However, her reason to be her was an emergency recall stirred by her workplace. The Public Safety Department was activated to assist in the eventuality of the Gun Devil being spotted around since it was no longer in the US and could have shifted somewhere in Asia or even deep in Russia.

Despite all the pain running all around, the 'young' agent had an empty smile plastered on her face, her yellow eyes picturing how things were before the tragedy and imaginging how much it was going to take to get it all back to work.

Also, she spotted the one she was looking for. And he seemed to be busy talking with two of her 'senpais'.

"Kishibe, drop the lovey-dovey act with Quanxi. I need her to be lucid for this shit and I am losing my patience as much as she is with your dumbassery. Focus on your task."

Kishibe-san and Quanxi-san. One was a dark-haired normal man that was particularly powerful despite his 'natural' disposition, and the one that Kishibe was nagging was a Chinese-born young woman with an eyepatch and a ponytail for her white hair.

A human and a devil, with the former lusting foolishly for the latter. Even though the 'Bow Devil', by what she had been told by her superior, was more inclined to date women than men. Especially annoying men like Kishibe.

Out of anyone that loved the boss as a good leader, some may say that Quanxi was in the top five due to his respectful effort to keep her 'private life out of the way' so that they can 'work as expected by their rules'. But Quanxi hardly got any close to what she was to her boss and-

"Makima, stop smiling like a freak, we need you to do manual work too," Her boss called her out, causing the 'young' redhead to nod in agreement.

There was indeed a lot to do between patching the road, helping civilians, planning the 'reward' for her good behavior... after all, her boss was someone that had found a way to make Makima actually like her job. Not by pulling on her leash, expecting her to bow her head like a dog to him like other fools had tried to do but... through 'bribery'.

It's been months since she had been assigned as the vice-director of the Special Division 1 of the PSD, and Makima held some loyalty to the man known as Takaki Haru. A normal human, even plainer than Kishibe, but incredibly less perverted than her colleague.

Haru-dono was her boss, her partner at work, and someone worthy of a special label for giving her a degree of 'rough care' in his own ways. Especially as she had spotted something prophetic as she was busy moving around debris.

"Haru-dono?"

"Yes, Makima."

"The Burger King around the corner is still intact."

This was one of the many reasons why she cared for such a silly human: he showed her 'the way of the trash food'. Well, not entirely. Makima's heart was pledged to the Burger King establishment and their Whoopers. Even thinking of that had her mouth watering in preparation of what was to come due to her 'good behavior'.

However, her boss had something to say as the man growled. "The government had said that the state of emergency will be around until after we have this whole mess dealt with. So, no Burger King until we get Japan patched up."

Makima felt sad, very sad, and also very angry. She wanted to hurt the government for a moment, then realized the true cause of it all was the Gun Devil. So, she started to hatch a plan to destroy the filthy mongrel for having delayed the inevitable: her eating some well-deserved Whoopers.

"Haru-dono?"

He sighed. "Yes, Makima?"

"Permission to control the Gun Devil?" The woman inquired and the man frowned, pausing in his directioning as he gave her a flat look.

"To kill it or use it against humanity?"

Good question. And one that give her some ideas.

"Yes."

Smart answer. And one that made her boss frown some more.

"I will give you three Whooper if you kill it on sight."

"Five."

"Two and three Jrs."

Makima beamed. "Deal."

Truly a masterful negotiation, but where was the Gun Devil? Makima had her network of rats, bugs, and all sort of critters look over Japan for it but... ten hours later would confirm a few things.

First, more than a million people died all over the world.

Second, the emergency status was to be lift in four days.

Third, the Gun Devil had been found in Russia and the Soviets decided to split him around between nations and lesser Devils.

So yes, an all-around tragedy that for 2/3 impacted Makima's chances to get a fair reward out of it. Well, beyond the two Whoopers that her boss 'found' while they were ransacking the Burger King because 'they needed good food'. And they sure did as Makima was one of the two remaining workers at the office to file the paperwork.

The other one was her boss and... he was already done signing papers - mostly because he landed almost half of those he had to deal with to Makima to endure. She could deal with it but... it wasn't about the Whoopers (those still helped), it was about him still sticking around, checking on her and even getting her a coffee.

As it had been for five months now, Makima had a dickish boss with a heart of gold. And one that didn't treat her as a weapon so...

She has some form of care for this specific human. She just wasn't sure if it was a special kind of loathing or loving.

AN

This version of the Office sure looks more disturbed than it should be...

Also yes, Haru is the MC!SI. (Do not) expect POVs from him.
