When Ensign Kim was engaged in a shuttle accident and Voyager was having trouble beaming the Asian officer out Harry acted quickly. The perceptive mage sensed the timeline being created as his friend crossed over into another reality. The magical people of Potter's Moon knew about other universes and had even done some studies into such realms. Harry knew the spells involved in probing those universes. The sorcerer traveled back in time a short distance and calibrated the spells for the reality Ensign Kim had ended up in. When the shuttle encountered the same accident as it had a few hours previously from the warlock's perspective he transported into the divergence rift and into the other reality.
The spells involved carried the mage into the body of the Tom Paris in that new reality thanks to his preparation in targeting the enchantments. The powerful telepath's body existed as energy for the time it took him to reach that Tom Paris before he took control of the blonde Starfleet washout. Tom Paris' life in this reality hadn't been as lucky as in his previous. It appeared this universe was even more divergent than the Potter warlock had first thought. The mage could detect no presence of wizards in this new universe. The immortal male's neural link with the technology in his trunk allowed him to locate Ensign Kim. Immediately Harry cloaked himself and apparated away to his friend's location, San Francisco.
The mage located Ensign Kim heading towards funnily enough the last known location of Tom Paris. The sorcerer intercepted Ensign Kim before the Asian man could transport to France.
"Tom Paris…I was just coming looking for you," Harry Kim declared as he spotted the blonde pilot.
"I was looking for you too Harry," the immortal replied.
"You recognize me?" Kim asked in surprise.
"Of course…I did jump into this time stream to find you after all," the Potter male declared.
"How did you get here?" A relieved Harry Kim queried.
"That story is quite complicated. I can get us back to Voyager if you are ready," the pilot explained.
"I need to say goodbye to Libby and explain some of this to her. I will meet you outside of Starfleet HQ in an hour," Ensign Kim suggested.
"That works," the wizard agreed.
Instead of heading to Starfleet HQ, Harry followed his friend invisibly back to the apartment the Ensign shared with Libby. At first Libby didn't take the news that her fiancé was trying to leave her very well.
"I don't understand…I don't understand any of this," Libby declared as she sat on her bed.
"I don't think anybody understands me quite like you do. So you should know that once my mind is made up about something I can't let the course of action I have decided to follow go. In some ways it would be much easier to forget about Voyager, settle in here, and build a life," Harry Kim said as he sat across from Libby. "But that wouldn't be me. You wouldn't be getting the Harry Kim you fell in love with."
The couple had no idea. The eldest Potter knew temporal and universal mechanics better than any being in the Sol system. When the Harry Kim from Voyager had arrived in this divergent reality he had "overwritten" the Harry Kim of that new universe. When Kim went back to his old universe and Voyager there wouldn't be any Harry Kim left behind. But according to the universal mechanics of Starfleet the divergent universe would be changed with whatever changes the original traveler who created it made to the time stream. Harry Kim thought he had created this divergent universe but in fact he had just landed in it. Libby would be left behind with no fiancé.
Just then a buzzer began going off on the ankle tracking bracelet the Asian Ensign had earned for hacking into classified Voyager records.
"The tampering alarm," Harry Kim said as he stood. "Security will be here any second. I have to go. I promise you that I am going to try to get back to Earth. It may take awhile…and I may not make it but I swear I will try."
Two Starfleet security officers transported in at that moment. Harry Kim ran for the window and made his escape. Libby blocked the window but there were more security officers waiting downstairs. The concealed wizard apparated down to street level.
"I thought we were going to meet outside of Starfleet HQ," Ensign Kim said in a rush as he spotted his friend concealed in a nearby doorway from being spotted easily.
"I thought you would get yourself in trouble. I will transport us away now. Stick close," the mage warned.
The warlock transported away with his friend.

Back on Voyager…
Tom Paris appeared to flicker for a moment as if caught in a strange transporter beam. When the blonde genius' form stabilized Harry Kim was standing beside him.
"What just happened?" Kathryn questioned.
"That ma'am is a long story," the warrior wizard replied.
The warlock made up a story about detecting the problem with Ensign Kim on his console and modifying the transport beam to put himself into the same temporal anomaly. Then the genius pilot built a device in the other universe to get himself and his friend safely back onboard Voyager. Given that the immortal knew the science behind his feats the others believed him.

Alternate Earth, six months later relative to the alternate universe…
Harry had been checking in on Libby periodically via time travel. Even though it had only been a week onboard Voyager since Ensign Kim's rescue the Potter mage had been able to hop through time in the alternate reality to check Libby's progress in moving past the incident. Starfleet hadn't punished Libby for her role in helping her fiancé escape. The telepathic Potter male might have had something to do with that. After a few months of studying the incident the Starfleet researchers in this reality had arrived at the correct conclusion that they were a separate universe from the one the Voyager officer had come from and had discerned the true fate of the native Ensign Kim. Again the powerfully telepathic Harry Potter might have had something to do with these conclusions that would have taken Starfleet decades to come to otherwise.
When Libby learned this she began her grieving process for her lost love. In his birth form, Harry Potter approached the table Libby was sitting at on the front stoop of an outdoor café. The telepath's monitoring of Libby's mind had revealed recently that she could certainly use a friend.
"Hello, you look like you could use a friend," Harry greeted as he drew up alongside Libby's table. "I'm Harry," the warlock greeted while holding out a hand.
Already the immortal's powerful aura was working on the young woman. Although she was still grieving, Libby for the first time in months was attracted to a man.
"I'm Libby," the woman greeted as she took the offered hand. "Would you like to join me?"
The mage sat down and began getting to know the beautiful young woman he was quite interested in. That day was the start of a friendship that would one day blossom into something much more.

Harry and many of his companions crouched in the dark of the holodeck.
"Hello," Kes said after she opened the doors on the Great Hall of Hogwarts the holodeck was currently configured as. "Is anybody here?"
Light suddenly filled the large chamber and shouts of surprise were issued to the young Ocampan.
"Happy birthday Kes," Harry greeted his girlfriend as he hugged her and well wishers crowded around.
"Two years old today," B'Elanna declared with a grin.
"Why was everyone hiding?" Kes queried.
"It was an old Earth custom called a surprise party," the resident wizard explained.
"We are sorry if we startled you," Janeway offered.
"No…I thought it was fantastic," Kes replied.
"The house elves have prepared quite the birthday feast for you Kes," Harry announced before waving his hand and channeling the transporters to beam in the food.
"It looks delicious," Kes announced appreciatively.
"Make a wish and blow out the candles on the cake Kes. But don't tell anyone what the wish is," Kathryn encouraged.
After Kes had done so her boyfriend handed her a present.
"Birthday gifts are also a part of Earth tradition," Harry informed his mate. After the young blonde unwrapped the package to reveal a locket and matching golden bracelet the warrior added, "I have taken the liberty of adding my own picture and B'Elanna's into the locket's micro holo projector. But it can hold thousands more images."
Kes opened the locket to reveal her handsome boyfriend's image being projected in three dimensions followed by B'Elanna's image when she thumbed the holographic scroll wheel.
"I love it Tom," Kes declared before kissing her man.
The jewelry also sported some protective enchantments and technology that would come in handy at some point in the future.
Just then Tuvok's voice called over the com, "Bridge to Janeway."
"Go ahead Lieutenant," the redhead replied.
"Captain we have encountered an unusual phenomenon," Tuvok began but the word phenomenon kept repeating itself followed by a lengthening of the wording and an increase in volume.
"What is going on?" Kathryn demanded while B'Elanna attempted to shut off the com from a nearby holo arch.
Just then the sound went silent while Harry typed away on his personal computer, heavily modified to suit his purposes with wizarding tech.
"There…that is better," the mage said after turning off the com.
"My guess is it's a problem with the com system itself," B'Elanna suggested.
"No it's not," Harry assured after bringing up the latest sensor readings on his pad from moments before the glitch with the communication occurred. "Voyager entered a spatial distortion a short time ago. Currently it's encompassing the ship. I do not recommend leaving this holodeck."
"Why?" Kathryn questioned.
"The distortion field is twisting the inside of Voyager around. It's folding and bending space. My computer is recalculating the spatial geometry inside but it's constantly shifting and changing rapidly. Hold on," the wizard mused as he faked surprise. "There is an intelligence to this shifting."
"Are you saying this distortion field is alive?" B'Elanna questioned.
"Precisely…or it's being controlled by living creatures," the warlock asserted.
"Kes enact the standard procedure for first contact situations," Kathryn ordered.
Kes closed her eyes and began reaching out with her mind. First the Ocampan beauty connected with her boyfriend's powerful consciousness. Together the pair reached out into the space currently distorting the inside of Voyager. At first Kes did not understand what her senses were showing her. Then the blonde's boyfriend guided her perception until she understood that the spatial distortion was from a different type of life form and their vessel. These life forms lived in a level of reality slightly higher than the one Voyager existed in. The spatial distortion was actually the "reflection" of that higher dimensional life form and their vessel. Harry could sense all of this because he himself was a higher dimensional life form but of a type that had most of its essence in the same dimension as Voyager.
Kes explained this to the crew surrounding her.
"What do they want?" Janeway inquired.
"This distortion field is actually the alien beings scanning us. Their scans take into account our presence in higher dimensions which is why it feels so invasive," Harry explained. "I've asked them to speed the process up."
Just then the distortion wave sped up and quickly engulfed the ship. What appeared to be moments later to Voyager's crew but was in fact hours from the perspective of the aliens thanks to a time dilation field effect any sign of the distortion field was gone.
"Let's head to the bridge. I want a full systems check," Kathryn ordered.
"I can already tell you what you will find. I have a diagnostic program on my pad," Harry announced. "The aliens copied our database and gave us some of theirs, twenty million gigaquads of new information to be exact."
"That is going to take us awhile to sort through," B'Elanna said.
"At least we will have a lot of reading material on the long journey home," Kathryn joked.

"Come in," Janeway called after Chakotay hit the button to ring the doorbell. "Lt. Paris…I didn't expect you as well. I hope you both have good news. Based upon this inventory our food reserves are down to thirty percent of capacity."
"We have two options available to us Captain," Chakotay began. "We have located an M class planet on long range sensors that shows high amino acid and protein readings. But the planet is a full day out of our way and some of the atmospheric readings are less than promising."
"What is option two?" Kathryn inquired.
"I have the designs for a certain alien technology that will stimulate the plant growth in our hydroponics bay so that we should have a new crop every two days. I had to dig the design out of my personal archives and even then its origin is highly classified. I have concluded that we can manufacture the technology onboard Voyager," Harry explained.
"And you are sure this technology will increase our growth so much?" The Captain queried.
"I am completely confident," Harry replied.
And he was because the wizard had taken the technology from the Potter's Moon database but from an older version of the current technology in use. The older version of the growth stimulation technology would decrease maturation time in a plant to a period of two days while the newer versions of the technology cut that time in half. But the sorcerer wasn't about to distribute the newest version of any of his technologies outside of his moon home if he didn't have to. The older version of the growth stimulation technology was still a century ahead of anything the Federation possessed.
"Well then I see no reason why we would need to detour to this planet Commander," Janeway told Chakotay. "Lt. Paris, you have whoever you need to get this technology up and running."
"Yes, Ma'am," the warlock agreed.
"Dismissed," Kathryn replied.

"Paris to Janeway," Harry said over the intercom.
"Go ahead Lieutenant," Janeway replied.
"I have completed an analysis of our route through Botha space. I've uploaded it to your computer for whenever you have time to look at it," the wizard announced, knowing the Captain was quite overwhelmed with work.
"Understood," Kathryn replied.
The mage heard later from B'Elanna that the Captain showed signs of the immense amount of stress Voyager's leader was under during a test upon new holo emitters being installed throughout key areas of the ship. The Doctor pulled medical rank and ordered the Captain to take a break. It was while the Captain was doing her own thing on the holodeck that something unusual occurred. Harry was on shift at his station on the bridge when he sensed a powerful telepathic presence entering into Voyager from a foreign source.
The presence was so powerful it had to be augmented by technology. Immediately the intelligent immortal jumped back in time half an hour. The warlock used that extra time to prepare the appropriate equipment within his pocket dimensional trunk. When he replaced the other version of himself at the helm the Potter male was ready for the telepathic incursion. From the moment the Bothan intruders invaded the minds of the Voyager crew however subtly, Potter's Moon technology locked onto the enemy signal. Using computing systems under time dilation that could outperform any other type of computing technology available Harry's technology invaded the hostile systems. It was learned that the Bothans routinely captured new ships by telepathically overwhelming the crew.
Powerful subspace sensor systems which had been upgraded via Caretaker technology reached out through time and space, locating the exact source of all of the invading telepathic signals. There were multiple minds on the invading system. An array of wormhole generators within Harry's trunk opened up conduits through spacetime to the source location and beams of destructive energy surged through the conduits. Within moments of the first shot being fired the entire Bothan force was decimated. Each operator of the telepathically enhancing machinery was mercilessly dispatched with a green narrow beam of energy. The machinery itself was struck with energy constructs that had the similar effect of a high powered blasting curse. Before the Bothans could even comprehend the threat they were dead. The space pirates were located in a dense asteroid field from where they constantly expanded and contracted their territory depending upon their current assault capabilities, or rather the capabilities they could project into the minds of their victims.
Harry's countermeasures overloaded the energy systems powering the asteroid facility and caused the rock to explode violently. Within moments of the Bothan pirates attacking Voyager the threat was neutralized and the crew of the Earth bound ship was none the wiser with the exception of one.
"I fucking love killing pirates," Harry thought from his place at Voyager's helm. "Maybe now Kathryn can enjoy her mandatory vacation. I'll have to concentrate my aura on her a bit more at dinner so she lets loose a little more when she's alone later tonight."
The telepathic mage knew quite a few women on Voyager pleasured themselves to thoughts of him. Kathryn Janeway was no exception. But Janeway had to become really frustrated before she allowed her self-pleasuring to focus on her pilot instead of her fiancé who she knew deep down she would likely never see again. Harry knew his aura often provided her the necessary frustration to overcome her inhibitions. Whatever the shape-shifter had to do to help his Captain and friend release some stress he would do. The fact that a beautiful woman derived pleasure from thoughts of him had nothing to do with it of course.

Harry was invisibly watching B'Elanna as she analyzed a mineral sample on a planet in Voyager's path. The warlock had let his mate come down to the planet with the away team but that didn't mean she would be without extra protection. Harry had jumped back in time and accompanied the away team while completely undetectable.
"Have you found anything useful?" Chakotay inquired as she walked up.
"Not really…the deposits of polypharinide are contaminated with astaline," B'Elanna answered.
"Commander Chakotay, there is something over here I think you should see," Tuvok called.
"Pack up your gear. We will find better quality deposits somewhere else down the line," Chakotay assured.
"The nacelles will burn up if we don't find good quality polypharinide soon," B'Elanna said. "But Tom did mention he was working on some designs that would allow us to properly shield the drive chamber without having to worry about overheating. I just hope he comes up with something in time."
The truth was that the warlock's systems relied upon the inherit abilities of his kind and the type of energy they manipulated. Harry was in fact working on a method of enclosing the shielding and cooling technology while keeping any Starfleet personnel from being able to tell what was inside. The Potter mage was confident he would have the system modifications completed in time. The pilot would just tell Janeway that the technology was highly classified and therefore needed the extra secrecy the cloak would provide.
"What did you find Lieutenant?" Chakotay queried as he joined Tuvok.
"I have found evidence of other visitors to this moon rather recently," the Vulcan answered while indicating a marking on the ground.
Chakotay crouched down and examined the marking before running his hand along the pattern. The telepathic Potter picked up on the fact Chakotay was remembering via a flashback for quite some time while examining the mark. Harry didn't pry on the vision. He felt no need to.
"Maybe the mark is a blessing to the land for damaging it with the campfire that was obviously where this mark was," Chakotay suggested.
The mark was formed out of ash in a ring of stones like what was used for a fire pit.
"What is your basis for that conclusion Commander?" Tuvok inquired.
"Aboriginal tribes on Earth often did something similar with fire pits," Chakotay explained without mentioning that the marking was identical to the ones left on Earth.

After returning to the ship Harry learned that during her duty shift in sickbay Kes had expressed a wish to the Doctor that the hologram learn some compassion for his patients. Unknown to the Ocampan and any other crewmembers of Voyager the sorcerer had been experimenting with the Doctor's programming in his spare time, making the physician more human like. The Doctor was as curious as any human and wanted to experience sickness. Unfortunately some of the original programmer's personality coding the Doctor possessed also decided to declare this experience as a chance to prove to the crew that illness should not affect duties.
Meanwhile Chakotay had explained how identical the symbols of his home culture were to the one found recently on the planet the away team had just returned from. A warp signature had been detected leaving the planet and the Captain decided to pursue the mystery.
"I'm showing no life signs," Ensign Kim announced after scanning the planet the warp signature led to.
"Mr. Paris, are you certain the warp signature ended here?" Kathryn questioned.
"Yes Ma'am I'm certain," Harry replied. "Do you see that electromagnetic signature located down on the planet…the really strong source?"
"That is unusually powerful for a naturally occurring phenomenon," Kim agreed.
"It could be a form of cloaking technology," Chakotay suggested.
"Maybe the natives don't want to be noticed," Harry pointed out. "Given the complexity of plant life on this planet I would be surprised if no intelligent life had evolved here."
The mage knew for a fact that intelligent life was present because his sensor technology could penetrate the natives' systems.
"Ensign Kim I want you to transmit a message continuously on all frequencies making it quite clear who we are, where we are from, and that our intentions are peaceful," Janeway ordered.
"Yes Captain," Kim agreed.
"Torres to bridge," B'Elanna's voice said over the intercom.
"Go ahead," Janeway prompted.
"We are in luck Captain. The planet below has high concentrations of polypharinide approximately ten kilometers beneath the surface," the Chief Engineer announced.
"Acknowledged," Kathryn replied. "We will send down an away team for a detailed survey of the deposits. Report to transporter room three." Chakotay was already heading towards the turbo lift. "Commander, if we encounter any resistance return to the ship immediately. I don't want to disturb an alien civilization that doesn't want us here. If you would, take Lieutenant Paris. If anything does go wrong he might prove useful."
"Yes ma'am," Chakotay agreed, while silently acknowledging that the pilot was certainly useful to have around. "Tuvok, you will join us as well."
The three bridge officers met up at the designated transporter room where B'Elanna was already at work.
"Our luck just might have run out. Every time we try to lock onto a location for transport a storm begins in that area. We have tried over seven different times and each time an electrical storm starts up above the target location. When we change targets a new storm forms and the old one dissipates," B'Elanna informed her crewmates.
"Might the transporter beam itself be causing an electrostatic charge in the atmosphere?" Tuvok inquired.
"I doubt that is the cause for the storms but anything is possible," Harry answered. "But it looks like we will be taking a shuttle if we want to get down there."
"Tom is right. To the shuttle bay," instructed Chakotay.
Harry was the pilot of the shuttle and it was a good thing. Another storm formed around the shuttle, making the ride rough.
"Once again a storm seems to have formed as a direct result of interaction with the atmosphere," Tuvok pointed out. "The meteorological conditions changed rapidly when we began our entry sequence."
"The shields are holding quite well," B'Elanna announced. "Altitude five thousand meters," the Chief Engineer called out a few moments later.
"Decreasing speed to 720 kph," Harry responded. "Entering terminal approach phase," the mage added.
"Visibility is still zero," B'Elanna said. "Switching to enhanced terrain scanning," the Klingon hybrid added.
"The touchdown site is scanned and I am continuing descent," the pilot announced.
The weather cleared up as soon as the shuttle touched down.
Several minutes later Tuvok informed Chakotay, "We are not making any progress locating that unusual power source Commander."
"Speak for yourself," Harry replied while examining his own heavily enhanced tricorder.
"You've got something Tom?" Chakotay inquired.
"I have always got something. I'm sensing distortion patterns all around us. Here…I will transmit my sensor readings to your tricorders," Harry suggested while busily typing away on his instrument. Several moments later the others saw what their most intelligent crewmate was seeing. "The distortion patterns are cloaked beings."
"And they have now paused movement," B'Elanna added.
Chakotay walked up to the nearest cloaked signature and said, "We can see you. We mean you no harm."
The being directly in front of Chakotay became visible. The humanoid alien bore a tattoo identical to the one Chakotay possessed on his brow.
"Explain your face marking," the alien said, his speech automatically being translated by the away team's com badges.
"I wear it to honor my father and he wore his to honor our ancestors," Chakotay replied.
"Ancestors…you are human?" The alien probed.
"Yes," Chakotay confirmed.
"Are there others on your world with this mark?" The alien spokesman questioned.
"Yes, there are not many but there are some," Chakotay responded.
"We were told all of them had been annihilated. We were told your world had been ravaged by those with no respect for life or land," the alien explained.
"There was a time when that was true," Chakotay agreed. "But it isn't that way any longer."
"When were you last on our world?" Harry spoke up.
"Many generations ago," the alien replied vaguely. "You claim to be a descendant of the Inheritors," the pale humanoid said to Chakotay.
"I'm not familiar with the Inheritors," Chakotay replied.
"The Inheritors are the ones our ancestors chose to honor. I'm surprised you have no memory of them," the alien clarified. "One of our gifts was the memory so therefore if you are a descendant you should remember."
"You introduced this gift long ago. Are you really surprised it might have been diluted or lost over such a great time?" Harry asked with one eyebrow raised in surprise.
"No, you are right of course," agreed the alien. "I will help you remember," the alien said as he put his hand on Chakotay's chest.
"It's alright," Harry cautioned Tuvok as the Vulcan raised his phaser in warning. "He is a touch telepath."
"Forty-five thousand of your years ago on our first visit to your world we met a small group of nomadic hunters with no spoken language or culture but with an impressive respect for the land. We were so impressed we gave them an inheritance, a genetic bonding so that they might thrive and protect your world. As we visited later we discovered our gift had brought about a spirit of curiosity and adventure. The gift compelled your ancestors to migrate away from the cold regions of your planet to a new land. Their numbers and civilization grew and flourished. Eventually new people arrived with weapons and disease," the alien explained while projecting memories to Chakotay. After removing his hand the alien added, "The Inheritors survived scattered. Many sought refuge in other societies. Twelve generations ago when we visited once more there was no sign to be found that the Inheritors still existed."
"My people called you the sky spirits," Chakotay said, earning a nod from the alien.
Harry thought about some Native American legends about powerful beings visiting the tribes of old and bestowing gifts. Indeed before the third world war there had existed populations of Native American magicians with special abilities of their own. The eldest Potter wondered if maybe some of the more gifted of the Inheritors had interbred with the Native American magical tribes and remained hidden there. With wizarding protections Harry wasn't surprised these Sky Spirits weren't able to find the Inheritors.
"Why have you hidden from us since our away team landed here?" Chakotay wanted to know.
"When they heard our message and saw us scanning their land they probably thought we were a threat," Harry suggested before the alien could respond.
"He speaks the truth and shows wisdom," the pale alien declared. "We thought you would wipe us out as you had the Inheritors."
"We have tried to change our ways since the last time your people visited Earth," Chakotay stated.
"I can see that," the pale telepathic alien agreed while the rest of his kind nearby began to reveal themselves.
"Voyager can detect their civilization now," Harry announced as he received a message from his computer.
"We can provide you with some of the materials you need but we do not practice deep mining of the land," the pale alien explained before mentioning a quantity.
When the unit conversions were established Harry assured, "I can work with that."
And the mage could most definitely work with those quantities without having to reveal Potter's Moon technology.
"Chantin will arrange the transfer of the material," Karak announced while indicating one of his companions.
Harry had learned the pale leader's name as Karak via a sensor scan of the alien computer systems with the Caretaker array. The cloak on the alien computer systems had made it difficult for the Caretaker's array to scan the alien systems. Now that the cloak was dropped names were easily acquired. Harry even managed to copy the alien database and add it to his own. The mage and the rest of the away team went to talk with Chantin while Chakotay stayed to say goodbye to Karak.
When the away team returned to Voyager with a supply of the material they needed the telepathic Harry could tell that Chakotay was a lot more comfortable and at peace with his Native American heritage. It looked like several productive results had come out of the away mission. It was a successful adventure for the spatially displaced crew of Voyager.

Kes was in the middle of a discussion with the Doctor when a strange noise drew the pair's attention to a storage container in sick bay. The storage container held the shriveled up remains of the Caretaker. Long before the group the Doctor summoned to the sick bay arrived in response to the activity in the alien remains the squealing noise and vibration had ceased.
"You read life signs?" Kathryn confirmed.
"Yes, but before I could do much in depth analysis the life signs stopped being emitted," the Doctor explained.
"My scans on all bio spectral frequencies have shown the remains to be completely inert," B'Elanna declared.
"The remains were reacting to a nearby sporocystian life form, likely the Caretaker's mate he mentioned," Harry declared while examining his own scanner readings.
"How are you determining that?" B'Elanna queried as she stepped closer to her boyfriend and examined his scanner.
"Your scanner is attuned to this time frame. My scanner has a short distance temporal scanning feature that allows me to examine the real time reading from a short while ago when the remains reacted," Harry explained.
"A temporal scanner," Janeway said in surprise with raised eyebrows.
"A little something I have been toying with in my spare time," the genius mage replied.
"Your scanner has even calculated a heading for the energy source the remains are reacting to," B'Elanna pointed out.
"Captain, I recommend we place the Caretaker's remains in a level three biohazard containment field," Tuvok suggested.
"Agreed," Kathryn replied. Just then the remains started vibrating and emitting a high pitched squeal once more. "Lt. Tuvok, get that containment field up. Mr. Paris, take us to the source of those readings."
As Harry headed towards the bridge Tuvok proposed creating a defense against sporocystian life forms like the Caretaker to the Captain using the detailed bio analysis the Doctor had already performed. Kathryn approved the development of a disabling toxin. It didn't take long to travel the ten light years to the region of space containing the sporocystian life form and once there Voyager sensed an artificial structure that was quite similar to the Caretaker's array, if not smaller in size.
"Captain, there is a station ahead almost identical to the Caretaker's array but a tenth the size," Harry informed his Captain as she joined the bridge crew.
The wizard slowed Voyager to impulse speed and brought the station on screen.
"Are there any life forms of the sporocystian type on the station?" Janeway queried.
"No Captain," the warlock assured. "But there are quite a few Ocampa onboard that station, over 2000 to be more precise."
"Hail them Mr. Tuvok," Kathryn ordered.
A few moments later the Vulcan replied, "There is no response. But I am reading an energy surge consistent with weapons fire coming from the station."
"Shields," Chakotay ordered.
Harry already had the shields up by the time the order was given. Several shots impacted Voyager's shield, having barely any effect. The spatial curvature shields were active with quite a bit of curvature. The energy shots deflected off the shields and went careening in a different trajectory.
"Incoming message from the array," Tuvok announced.
"Play it," Kathryn commanded.
An Ocampan male came on screen and declared, "You are not wanted here."
"We pose no threat to you and your people. I am Captain Kathryn Janeway," the Captain began only to be cut off.
"You have been warned," the Ocampan interrupted.
"Kes, could you come to the bridge," Harry projected to his mate who was always keeping a telepathic "eye" on her lovers.
A moment later the Ocampan cut off the communications.
"I have called Kes to the bridge Captain," the sorcerer informed his CO.
When the attractive blonde Ocampan arrived on the bridge Janeway quickly explained the situation.
"Kes, is there any history you know of from your people regarding Ocampa leaving your world or being captured by aliens and taken away?" Chakotay inquired.
"This would have been at least three hundred years ago judging from the age of the station our scans have revealed," Kathryn added.
"No, I'm afraid not. The idea that there could be Ocampa elsewhere than our home planet was not even considered by my people. As you might suspect, 300 years is a long time given our life spans," Kes explained.
"Will you act as an intermediary?" Kathryn inquired.
"Of course Captain," Kes agreed. "What do I need to do?"
"First off we need to arrange a meeting. Hail the array Mr. Tuvok," Janeway ordered.
A few moments later the face of the Ocampan who had fired upon Voyager earlier appeared, declaring, "This is becoming tiresome Captain."
"It is not Captain Janeway who wishes to speak to you right now but I, Kes. I am an Ocampa," Kes interrupted.
"This is a trick," the alien on the array suggested.
Kes reached out with her mind so that the alien on the array could hear her along with the bridge crew of Voyager and telepathically projected, "I assure you this is no trick."
"Yes, I can sense that. We should meet. I will come onboard your vessel," the startled male alien replied.

The briefing room a short while later…
"Our readings detected a sporocystian life form in this region of space," Kathryn declared after Tanis, the Ocampan leader, had been introduced. "We have been searching for that life form for months so that it might send us home. A similar life form pulled us from our home quadrant of the galaxy against our will and left us stranded here in the Delta quadrant."
"Your ship is known as a vessel of death. When Voyager appears species that see it fear destruction," another Ocampan male, Norman Large, announced.
"We defend ourselves when necessary and only when necessary. If you have heard differently the people you have been talking to have a skewed perspective on reality," Harry rebutted.
"Were you defending yourself against the Caretaker?" Tanis argued.
"As a matter of fact, the Caretaker wanted his station destroyed. He didn't want the station's technology to fall into the hands of the Kazon. He initiated the self destruct himself but the station had been damaged too much," Kathryn explained.
"If you know one of these sporocystian life forms can you honestly say he or she would want their technology in the hands of the Kazon? The Caretaker was dying of illness. His remains are in our medical bay if you want to examine them yourselves," Harry pointed out.
"I will examine these remains," Norman Large spoke up.
At the same time Tanis sent telepathically to Kes, "I wish to speak to you alone."
Harry clearly picked up the telepathic message but didn't react.
"Captain, I think I have some things to discuss with Tanis in private if that is alright with you," Kes said.
"Very well," Janeway agreed before everyone else in the room besides Kes and Tanis exited.
Harry took Norman to the medical bay and watched as the Doctor showed the Ocampan the remains. The wizard learned later what had transpired during his mate's discussion with Tanis. Kes took Tanis to the hydroponics bay where she often went to relax. Tanis revealed a superiority complex and ego to match any of the pureblood wizards of Harry's youth. Tanis was fourteen years old, five years older than the eldest living Ocampa on Kes' home world. The sporocystian life form named Suspiria which had taken Tanis' ancestors from his home world had gifted the Ocampa with life extension technology.
Tanis also revealed to Kes the reason for his superiority complex. The Ocampa onboard the smaller array had learned to harness their mentally derived powers to a new level. Right before he had to return to the station Tanis showed Kes an ability to make the plants in the hydroponics bay grow rapidly. Tanis referred to the ability as being able to enhance life. In truth it was an ability which telekinetically sped up the molecular and even atomic growth processes. While Tanis was talking with Kes, her mate had taken a short trip back in time and was raiding the station's database for any new information he didn't already have from the Caretaker's data. The life extension technology was interesting but paled in comparison to what Potter's Moon technology had produced in recent times.

"Should I reveal to Tanis any of what I can do?" Kes questioned her mate after she had filled him in on the results of her discussion with Tanis.
"No, only reveal yourself as an exceptional student in what he might try to teach you. We don't want Suspiria interested in you. I can disable Suspiria if it comes to that. The firewall on the station's network was laughable," the wizard declared, having told his two mates that he had acquired much of the station's database while orbiting the structure.
"Alright," Kes agreed. "You have taught me far more than a parlor trick to make plants grow fast," the blond added while casually floating a dozen objects around the room in a complex dance through the air. "Besides, when Tanis was performing his trick I was examining it with the senses you helped me develop. I can reproduce his trick easily enough."
"That's my love," Harry praised, kissing his lover affectionately and causing the dancing objects to fall to the floor. "I still have much to teach you," the mage purred as he kissed along his partner's jaw to her ear.
"Ooo…teach away my love, teach away," Kes encouraged while feeling herself being lowered back to the bed behind her.

Tanis was dining with Kes and some of the senior Voyager crew.
"Where does Suspiria live?" Kathryn inquired.
"Nowhere quite so corporeal Captain," Tanis replied. "Suspiria exists as pure sporocystian energy. Suspiria only assumes physical form when we need to communicate with her."
Harry and Kes both sensed something of Tanis' last statement was a lie.
"Does Suspiria occupy our spacetime continuum?" Chakotay asked.
"I am not sure. When my people need her Suspiria comes," Tanis explained. "I can take you to the meeting place. Suspiria can answer all of your questions herself. You would enjoy meeting Suspiria Kes as well as the rest of the Ocampa here."
"I would definitely like to visit the station," Kes agreed.
"Visit…you could stay with us," Tanis suggested.
"I'm afraid there are certain aspects of Voyager which I am just too attached to," Kes declared while glancing between her boyfriend and B'Elanna. "But I would appreciate you showing me more of the mental abilities our people have developed with Suspiria's help."
"I would love to, maybe later this evening," Tanis offered.
"That would be excellent," Kes agreed.

Tanis' tutelage consisted of encouraging Kes to move a cup with telekinesis before prompting her to warm the liquid inside with her mind. Kes had been able to do these things for the last several weeks, having recently reached a breakthrough point in her understanding of her powers, but Tanis didn't know any of that. Tanis instead moved the cup and heated the liquid more than what an inexperienced Ocampa could have done on their own in order to entice Kes to change her mind and come to live on the station. After the lesson ended, Tanis directed Voyager to the meeting place where he supposedly met with Suspiria.
"Nothing on sensors Captain," Ensign Kim announced.
"Captain, may I access your communications equipment?" Tanis requested.
"Of course," Janeway agreed.
After accessing the communications console Tanis announced, "I have sent out a subspace carrier wave to which Suspiria should respond within forty-seven hours. I will wait in my quarters."
"We will let you know when she makes an appearance," Kathryn responded.
"That won't be necessary Captain. I will know when she is here," Tanis assured.
In fact Suspiria wanted Voyager brought to that location because it was located "near" her natural habitat in a higher dimension. It was easier for Suspiria to worm her way slowly through the layers of Voyager's shields with the ship stationary nearby where she routinely transitioned between the dimensions. Higher dimensional energy flowed more easily between dimensions in that region of space due to Suspiria's frequent transitioning. She could use that energy to slip through the ward layers. Harry knew all of this about Suspiria's species from the Caretaker's database. The genius immortal wizard was prepared.
Meanwhile Tanis had approached Kes once more in one of the hydroponics bays in order to try to change the blonde's mind about joining him on the Ocampa populated station. Tanis showed Kes how destructive her powers could be unchecked by making the nearby plants grow so rapidly that they reached the end of their life cycles in moments. Tanis arrived on the bridge shortly after.
"Suspiria will be joining us momentarily," Tanis announced, a smug grin playing across his lips.
"I should think not," Harry declared as he turned from his console and faced the Ocampa.
"Mr. Paris?" Kathryn spoke questioningly.
"No, what are you doing to her? What are you doing to Suspiria?" Tanis demanded as the ship shuddered a bit.
"What is going on?" Janeway questioned her favorite pilot.
"Captain there is a sporocystian life-form caught within the normal boundaries of our shield. Somehow it bypassed our outer shields and appears to have been trapped within the curvature shields Tom created," Ensign Kim announced while examining his sensor readings.
"While Tanis has been showing Kes his abilities she has been putting the training I have given her to good use, examining his mind without Tanis knowing. Kes has discovered Suspiria has no intention of helping us. Despite the evidence we have shown the Ocampa, Suspiria still blames us for the Caretaker's death. Kes wasn't able to learn what Suspiria planned to do from Tanis' mind but I put a contingency plan in place if she proved hostile. The curvature shields I created have Suspiria contained in a subspace bubble," Harry explained.
"You must let her go," Tanis cried while Kes stepped onto the bridge.
"We don't have to do anything Tanis," Kes declared.
"How long can we hold her?" Kathryn inquired, feeling any hope of getting home via Suspiria crumbling.
"I don't know Captain. I don't suggest we put it to the test in such a manner," the warlock replied.
"We can let her go without exposing Voyager to danger, Captain," Kes supplied helpfully.
"Then do so. We will drop Tanis back on the station before we resume our journey," Janeway announced.
Moments later Suspiria was allowed out of her cage while a curved spacetime field still surrounded Voyager. The Starfleet vessel immediately went to warp heading back towards the station. Tanis was kept unconscious the entire time by Kes, the stronger telepath.
At dinner that evening the group of close friends which ran Voyager was sitting together in pleasant discussion as they shared a meal. Kes and B'Elanna were seated on either side of their mate.
"One thing that puzzles me…Suspiria obviously knew the Caretaker had died and that his array had been destroyed. Why didn't she come to him and procreate instead of him having to search the galaxy for species he could use as a mate?" Kathryn questioned.
"I get the feeling Suspiria and the Caretaker no longer saw eye to eye," Kes pointed out. "They had a difference in philosophy about how my people should be handled."
"Maybe she didn't want to mate with him but that didn't mean she wanted to see him perish," B'Elanna suggested.
"For a species so advanced their logical reasoning escapes me," Tuvok declared.
"Indeed," Harry agreed.
