Voyager was in orbit above an outpost of the Nikhal Travelers. This race of explorers possessed extensive knowledge of the territory Voyager would be passing through.
"I landed my ship on the nearest of those twenty-one moons. My navigator and I disembarked to start repairs. Damage was extensive. As the air grew cold we started a fire to keep warm. In the night we awoke to the ground shaking to what we thought was a moon quake. But it was no tremor. For it was no moon we had landed on. It was a creature, a living being so massive it generated its own gravitational field," Nakahn, the owner of the establishment Kathryn and Harry were sitting in, said.
"Captain," Kes greeted as she walked up with one of the travelers named Zahir.
"How long had the creature been lying there dormant…years, centuries?" Nakahn continued, ignoring the interruption. "Perhaps even millennia," Nakahn suggested.
Nakahn fell silent.
"Zahir is the pilot who I have been working with to transfer the medical supplies we traded for," Kes introduced.
It was routine to trade medical technology in hopes of learning new medical techniques. The Federation would obtain many new medical technologies this way. Plus giving the travelers medical supplies gained Voyager the charts and data it needed.
"A pleasure," Kathryn said while grasping the dark haired traveler's hand.
Harry nodded his greeting as well.
"Returned," Zahir replied. "Curious, I was just visiting the system you spoke of a few months ago. My ship's sensors picked up no such…monster," Zahir addressed Nakahn.
"Perhaps your sensors were faulty," Nakahn suggested.
Hoping to head off a confrontation Harry interjected, "Perhaps such a creature had moved on after Nakahn woke it up."
"Yes, maybe," Zahir agreed.
"If you'll excuse me I have business that needs attending," Nakahn said as he stood and departed.
Kes sat next to Harry and took his hand, making it clear she was with him. The blonde telepath had picked up on Nakahn's attraction for her and wanted to clarify her status for him.
"That was a…colorful saga," Kathryn suggested.
"Moon sized creatures or not…the asteroids of that particular system are rich in Beryllium," Zahir replied.
"We don't have much concern about supplies such as Beryllium, only information," Harry assured.

"The Doctor was planning on embarking on a personality improvement project today," Kes informed her mate and friends over dinner that evening in a private corner of the mess hall.
"You say that as if it was in the past tense?" Ensign Kim asked inquiringly.
"Denara put a stop to that idea right away. She didn't like the idea of her man messing around with his head. She likes him just the way he is," Kes explained.
"He's not so bad…once he has time to grow on you," Tana Delaney declared with a wry grin.
"If he hasn't had time to grow on you already then you just haven't been around him enough," Kathryn pointed out with a smirk.
"I hear that," B'Elanna agreed. "Oh…I don't think lunch is sitting so well with me."
With casual ease Harry drew a hypospray from his pocket and injected his half Klingon mate.
"What was that?" Kathryn queried.
"The Doctor determined that Klingons lacked an enzyme to digest this planet's vegetation. B'Elanna chose to ignore that warning. Tom knew she would," Kes explained.
"Thank you Tom," B'Elanna said as she went back to eating her meal, satisfied that her man knew her so well. "Anyway…the Doctor is far too complex of a program to go messing around with personality subroutines. He should leave that up to Tom and I."
"That was an excellent move showing you were with Tom today, Kes," Kathryn complimented.
"What's this? Does Kes have an admirer?" B'Elanna questioned.
"Oh yes, another pilot among the Travelers named Zahir. From what I saw of his expression Zahir was very put off when Kes took Tom's hand and practically snuggled up to our man's side," the redhead announced.
"He's nice enough but can't compare to Tom," Kes said.
"My, my…there appears to be nothing better for one's ego than having three girlfriends," Tana observed.
"Tom Paris and ego don't really go together…which is surprising given his accomplishments," Kim mused.
"Can we please stop talking about me," Harry pleaded.
"He's so humble," Kathryn teased her lover.
Harry rolled his eyes at the antics of his ladies. After dinner Kes asked to speak with her boyfriend alone.
"What's up, love?" Harry questioned when he and Kes were alone in his quarters.
"I have spent almost a third of my life now on Voyager," Kes began. "I have been asking myself if I want to spend the rest of it on Voyager."
Harry took Kes' hands and ran his fingers over her smooth skin. The wizard was silent for several moments before he responded.
"Kes, you don't have to age anymore if you don't want to. In fact I would like it very much if you wouldn't age anymore," Harry explained.
"What do you mean? How would I not age?" Kes queried in confusion.
Harry produced a ring seemingly out of his pocket. The ring held what appeared to be a red jewel. The red jewel was actually a highly refined Philosopher's Stone. Enchantments on the runes inscribed into the inside of the band of the ring would draw power from the arcane energy Harry gave off frequently and extract the elixir from the Stone and transfer it to Kes' blood stream.
"So long as you are my mate and make love to me while wearing this ring the energy I give off will power the technology within this ring," Harry explained while slipping the ring onto Kes' finger. "The technology of this ring will keep you halted at your current age. I only waited until now so that you were physically mature before I halted your aging. Do you wish for this?"
In response Kes pounced on her mate, pushing him back to the bed with her lips pressed to his and her tongue plundering his mouth.
"What about B'Elanna and Kathryn?" Kes asked after she had sat up to catch her breath.
"They will talk with me about their feelings when they are ready. Until then only you and I can see that ring. As you might have heard…a ring given to a mate in my culture can mean an entirely different thing than this ring I have given you although the purpose is similar," Harry assured.
"I understand," Kes agreed. "And thank you so much for being my lover Tom…for guiding me through the rough patches in life. I love you."
"I'll always be here for you as long as you will have me," Harry assured before kissing his blonde Ocampan tenderly. Mind to mind Harry sent, "I love you too my beautiful Kes."
The couple didn't leave the wizard's quarters for some time.

Stardate 50712.7…
Kathryn waited until the asteroid was at the right distance from Voyager and the planet they were protecting before ordering, "Fire."
After the photon torpedo hit Tuvok announced, "The asteroid is fragmenting but most of the debris is still on a collision course with the planet."
"Target the fragments. Destroy them," Kathryn ordered.
"That asteroid should have been vaporized. What happened?" Chakotay questioned.
Harry was already busily analyzing the sensor readings.
"Not sure, sensors showed a simple nickel-iron composition," Ensign Kim announced. "We shouldn't be seeing fragments more than a centimeter in diameter."
"What you were detecting was just an outer shell. There is an inner layer that is meant to disperse basic sensor scans. I have adjusted the sensors to compensate," Harry explained.
"I am detecting complex circuitry, portions of what appears to be a guidance system from one of the fragments," Kim added.
"Transport the larger fragments into a tractor field for analysis," Kathryn changed her orders.
"Can you determine how long until the next asteroid hits?" Sklar, the Director of the Nezu Space Program, queried.
"In six hours the asteroid will reach the planet and head towards the larger continent in the eastern coastal region," Tuvok announced.
"Our largest colonies are there containing over 5,000 citizens," the Ambassador replied while looking towards the Director worriedly.
"Captain, we appreciate your efforts but I think it is time we considered an evacuation," the Director told Kathryn. "According to my analysis there are at least twelve more asteroids heading in our direction. How can we hope to destroy all of these asteroids even with your help?"
"We are receiving a hail from the surface," Ensign Kim announced.
"Ambassador," a Nezu male greeted once on screen. The connection was bad with a screen fading in and out. "The asteroids are not what they seem. They are composed of artificial materials. I must meet with you immediately. I think we can stop."
The transmission was cut off at that point.
"I have lost the transmission," Kim announced.
"Can you pinpoint his location?" Chakotay probed.
"There is too much interference," Kim replied.
"That was Dr. Vatm, our most prominent astrophysicist," the Ambassador explained.
"He seems to have known about the asteroids being aimed at the planet. Maybe he knows more," Harry suggested.
"Can we send a shuttle down through the atmospheric turbulence from the previous impacts?" Kathryn asked her boyfriend.
"It will be a bumpy ride but I think it is possible," Harry answered.
"Our chances of locating Dr. Vatm are slim. We should evacuate the colony," Sklar objected.
"We haven't the time to evacuate all of those people. I won't give up. Not now," the Ambassador rebutted. After turning to Kathryn, the Ambassador continued, "Captain, I'm asking for your help again but I won't ask you to risk your crew."
"In for a penny, in for a pound," Kathryn answered. "We are not leaving you now. Tuvok, assemble rescue teams. We will send down three shuttles to find Vatm."
"Aye Captain," Tuvok acknowledged. "Mr. Paris, if you will join me by piloting the second shuttle," the Vulcan requested.
Even though he outranked the pilot technically Tuvok knew the human genius had classified levels of command and experience Tuvok had not been privy to. It was best to treat Tom Paris with respect and courtesy.
OP – Star Trek Voyager – OP – Star Trek Voyager – OP – Star Trek Voyager – OP
"I am ready to go," Kes informed her boyfriend as she climbed into the shuttle and took up the copilot's seat.
"I'm taking her out now," Harry replied as he guided the second shuttle out of Voyager's shuttlecraft bay.
The shuttle shot swiftly into the atmosphere and immediately began to shake. The wizard reached out with his senses and detected the smoothest path through the turbulence. Harry also projected a field throughout the craft which would cause most matter to phase through the vessel. The mage didn't want the ride to be too smooth or Kes might question it.
"This isn't so bad," Kes commented.
"I am just that good of a pilot," Harry replied with a half smirk.
"Voyager to shuttlecraft two, come in Tom," Ensign Kim's voice came over the com system with a bit of static.
"We read you," Harry acknowledged.
"The shuttle Ensign Kaplan and Tuvok were in went down in a rough patch of the atmosphere. We can't detect exactly where from orbit because of the highly charged dust particles in the atmosphere from the recent impacts," Kim explained.
"We will wait until we get lower and then look for them so that we don't encounter the same turbulence," Harry assured. "Away team out," the sorcerer said.
"Look at that," Kes cried while pointing towards a structure in the distance a few minutes after the search for the missing shuttlecraft began.
"It's a magnetic tether. It transports passengers and cargo into orbit more cheaply than antiquated propulsion systems. Earth used to use them before the advent of modern spacecraft. Hmm…Tuvok and Kaplan might try the tether if the time for the asteroid impact gets too short and we haven't found them. We'll check back there in a couple of hours," Harry suggested.
Kes nodded her agreement with the plan before turning her attention back to the short range sensors. Long range sensors weren't very good in atmosphere under normal conditions and with the charged particles cluttering the environment these were not normal conditions.
OP – Star Trek Voyager – OP – Star Trek Voyager – OP – Star Trek Voyager – OP
"We have just completed our third low altitude survey," Harry informed Kathryn. "There is no sign of Tuvok and Ensign Kaplan or Dr. Vatm."
"We've just detected a large dust storm heading your way. You will need to head due north within the hour," Kathryn answered.
"Acknowledged," Harry replied before cutting the communication.
"Let's go check the tether now," Kes suggested.
"Agreed," the mage answered.
The couple flew the shuttle towards the tether and arrived within sight of it after several minutes of flight.
"The transport isn't in the base station anymore," Kes announced excitedly. "It has paused quite a few kilometers above the surface."
"We don't know that Tuvok and Kaplan are onboard. But it probably is them," Harry pointed out.
"I have a good feeling…I know it's them," Kes replied.
Harry had been training his Ocampan mate to trust her instincts because they were largely guided by her powers.
"Look, there is Tuvok climbing onto the roof," Harry pointed out as the shuttle's sensors magnified the view of the tether transport while the flying craft grew closer.
"Tuvok to Kaplan," Tuvok's voice broke over the com which the shuttle picked up on at that distance.
"Go ahead Commander," Kaplan responded.
"I have discovered a data storage device lodged in the internal circuitry of the tether transport," Tuvok announced. "It appears to contain information about an alien starship. I will need to remove it and bring it into the cabin for further examination."
"Acknowledged," Kaplan replied.
Moments later the two shuttle occupants noticed Sklar exit the hatch at the top of the transport and sneak up on Tuvok. Tuvok didn't see Sklar with the howl of the dust storm picking up.
"Take the controls," Harry commanded as he spun the craft around so that the rear hatch faced the tether transport. Opening the hatch the mage leapt from the craft and landed on top of Sklar. Harry delivered a blow to a pressure point and put the Nezu traitor down. Tuvok had turned at the commotion and stared at the pilot in surprise. "You look like you could use a ride," Harry greeted with a grin.
"You have very fortunate timing, Mr. Paris," Tuvok declared as he deduced that Sklar was about to attack him.
"Come on, let's get you all onboard the shuttle," Harry suggested as he signaled Kes to lower the craft closer.

"Captain, the asteroid is within visual range," Ensign Kim announced.
"Put it on screen," Kathryn replied just as her boyfriend along with Tuvok walked onto the bridge.
The Vulcan immediately went over to his tactical station and began typing away at the console, transferring the data on the ship the "asteroid" was revealed to be.
"There is a large crew compliment of at least 2000," Kim said.
"They re-modulated their shields to fool our passive long range sensors," Chakotay announced.
"We are being hailed," Kim added.
"Put it on screen," Kathryn ordered.
"The Atanian Order claims this territory," an alien male with a many ridged face declared. "You will withdraw."
"This planet is Nezu property. I will assume you are the one sending the asteroids given your little trick with your shield. I will give you ten seconds to withdraw or I will destroy your ship. Be warned my vessel is quite capable," Kathryn rebutted.
"Are you really willing to die for the Nezu, Captain?" The Order captain asked.
"Five seconds," Kathryn replied before gesturing to cut the communication.
"They are powering weapons, Captain. I have their shield modulation locked in," Tuvok announced.
"Destroy that threat," Kathryn answered.
Tuvok fired. The first shot took out the primary reactor of the enemy vessel. The Atanian Order ship returned fire but the Promethium drive absorbed the energy. The next shot from Voyager went after the Order vessel's Warp core. Moments later the enemy vessel went up with the destructive force of a Warp core overload. Voyager's defenses absorbed the energy.
"I don't know how my people can ever repay you, Captain," the Ambassador said.
"I believe you should come with us to our brig, Ambassador. You need to deal with Mr. Sklar," Tuvok announced.
On the way to the brig Tuvok caught Kathryn and the Ambassador up to date on the events on the surface including how Sklar had poisoned Dr. Vatm who had been gathering intelligence on the threat posed by the Atanian Order for some time. The Order caused what seemed like natural disasters on the worlds they intended to claim before sending in forces to take the planet after an evacuation had occurred. Sklar was a traitor to his people that was being paid handsomely to suppress any resistance and that had included Dr. Vatm.
Ensign Kaplan had made friends with a Nezu female named Lillias that had been in the tether lift. After speaking with the Ambassador, Kaplan happily informed Lillias that her sister Hala had been found even after the two siblings had been separated in one of the earlier meteor strikes. Kaplan and Lillias parted ways friends as did the Nezu and the Federation. A satellite was left in orbit around the Nezu world equipped with a Paris array so that Voyager along with Federation HQ could keep in touch and even begin exchanging information and knowledge.

Stardate 50732.4…
"Let's mark the coordinates of that trinary star. It will be a good reference point for this sector," Chakotay suggested.
"Didn't we already pass a trinary system like this?" Ensign Kim queried.
"Not that I remember, why?" Chakotay answered.
"It just seems familiar," Kim replied.
"Maybe it's just déjà vu," Kathryn suggested.
"I guess so," Kim agreed.
"Captain, there is a ship approaching bearing two one five mark eight," Tuvok announced.
"On screen," Kathryn prompted.
"Their shields are down and their weapon systems are unpowered," Tuvok added as the vessel appeared on the view screen.
"They're hailing us," Kim said while putting the communiqué on the view screen after a nod from the Captain.
"My respects to you. I am Alben, Captain of the Nerata," a blue skinned alien with ridges running all across his face said.
"Captain Kathryn Janeway of the Federation Starship Voyager," Kathryn answered.
"I thought I was familiar with every type of ship in this sector," Alben said. "But I have never come across anything like your vessel before."
"We're not from around here," Kathryn explained.
"In that case, let me welcome you to Nasari territory," Alben said.
"That ship is going to fire," Harry Kim cried out in warning.
Hogwarts confirmed this assertion to her creator.
"He's right…I'm detecting a tetryon surge consistent with a weapons buildup," Harry backed up his friend while triggering the passive mode of the Promethium drive into active mode.
Moments later the Nerata opened fire and the energy discharge washed across the Promethium drive's barrier. The barrier channeled the attack into the core of its drive where it was fed into the replicators. Voyager's crew barely felt any disturbance.
"Return fire," Kathryn ordered.
"Direct hit to their weapons array. They have suffered damage to their weapons array and shield emitters," Tuvok announced.
"Tom, get us out of here," Kathryn said to her mate. As Voyager jumped to Warp the Captain turned to Ensign Kim and queried, "How did you know they were going to fire?"
"I can't explain. I just knew," Kim replied with confusion.
"Harry, go down to sick bay and have the doctor check you out," Kathryn urged. "Tom, would you go with him? Your expertise might come in handy," the redhead suggested, having a feeling something more was going on here. "I'll take over the helm."
OP – Star Trek Voyager – OP – Star Trek Voyager – OP – Star Trek Voyager – OP
"What can we do for you?" The Doctor asked as the two men walked in.
"Harry here had something of a hunch I guess you could call it about a vessel we just met attacking us and they did so moments later. He is also experiencing feelings that he has been through this region of space before. I think he should have a full standard workup and also a genetic workup done," the mage recommended.
The sorcerer had already scanned his friend via Hogwarts and knew there was a retrovirus in his friend's system attempting to rewrite Kim's genes. The Doctor took blood samples and took several scans with Denara's help. Kes was currently off duty.
"I will notify you when I have the results," the Doctor informed the two bridge crewmembers.
"Come on Harry…you look like you could use some relaxing. Let's head to the holodeck and take a swim," the wizard suggested.
"Sure," Kim agreed.
As they left sick bay Harry queried, "Would it bother you too terribly much if I started calling you HK?"
Kim looked at his friend funny before shrugging his shoulders and saying, "Not really. I've never had a nickname before."
"HK it is," Harry declared.
OP – Star Trek Voyager – OP – Star Trek Voyager – OP – Star Trek Voyager – OP
"That was an astounding call yesterday, Mr. Paris," the Doctor complimented as HK and Harry walked into sick bay a few hours later. "If we hadn't performed the genetic workup we never would have detected the retrovirus beginning to rewrite Ensign Kim's DNA."
"A retrovirus," HK said worriedly.
"Yes, after comparing the microcellular scans taken of you yesterday with previous scans I found no fragments of foreign DNA. Now you have alien DNA that has been created by the retrovirus modifying your human DNA. You were probably exposed during an away mission. And before you ask the bio-filters probably did eradicate the original retrovirus but by that point the alien DNA had already been transferred into your cells. I took the liberty of reviewing the transporter buffer's microcellular scanner logs and found the first time the alien genetic material appeared was on Stardate 50698," the Doctor explained.
"I did get separated from the group for a time while I was exploring a separate mining tunnel," HK mused. "That would explain why I was the only one infected."
"Now it's a rather simple matter to treat you once we figured out what the problem was," the Doctor explained as Denara came forward and used a hypospray on HK's neck.
"A treatment every four hours for the next twelve hours will be necessary," Denara explained.
"Thank you," HK told both physicians.
The couple nodded their response and the two friends left sick bay.
"I wonder what that retrovirus was turning me into," HK mused. "But I guess I'm just glad I won't have to find out."
"Indeed," Harry agreed while deciding he would find out.
OP – Star Trek Voyager – OP – Star Trek Voyager – OP – Star Trek Voyager – OP
"So what was my counterpart being turned into?" The HK of the alternate Voyager asked later that day as he and his friend played volleyball on the holo-deck with Kes, B'Elanna, Kathryn, the Delaney sisters, and several others.
"A member of a species called the Taresians. They engineered that retrovirus with a bit of genetic memory which causes males from other species to be converted to Taresians and come to their world. The Taresians are a race that is over 90% female. They draw these males in and then harvest almost all of the living cells in the males' bodies for genetic material to nucleate and conceive offspring with. They are at least nice enough to fill the males' minds with fantasies of having three wives and a foursome with three beautiful women before they kill them. But it's still screwed up," Harry explained.
"I take it you tracked their home world down?" B'Elanna questioned.
At Harry's nod a curious Kes asked, "What did you do?"
I made sure that their overall fertility would drop drastically. Now it won't just be males they will have a hard time conceiving. Of the Taresians that didn't participate in the harvesting practice from other species I will help a portion of them continue the Taresian race. I made sure they couldn't lure anymore males to their world and exterminated the retrovirus they used from this region of space.
"Will you personally be helping these females conceive?" HK inquired curiously.
"Some of them…why are you interested?" Harry queried.
HK glanced at the Delaney sisters who unlike his counterpart he had experienced both of before turning back to his best friend and answering, "I think I might."
The Delaney sisters on the alternate Voyager and almost all of the crew on that cloaked vessel were learning to be more open sexually and more free in their thinking. This tended to happen once immortality was bestowed upon a person by an uber powerful sorcerer.

Stardate 50783.9…
Kes sat up in bed with a start.
"What is it, love?" Harry asked his blonde mate as he too sat up.
Kathryn and B'Elanna came awake as well.
"A vision of an alternate timeline," Kes answered as she struggled to calm herself with the exercises her boyfriend had schooled her in.
"Can you show us?" Kathryn queried.
"Yes, I think so," Kes confirmed before lying back against Harry as he wrapped his arms around her.
The other three felt the telepath connect with their minds and closed their eyes as visions of what Kes just experienced flooded their awareness. Kes remembered being an old woman in her ninth year of life. She was subjected to an experiment conducted by the Doctor to prolong her life using a bio-temporal chamber. This chamber stimulated dormant chronoton particles from a radiation exposure incident Kes had undergone in her past. Then shortly after this memory the Ocampan's mind began jumping back through her life.
Each time she had jumped back to a point in her past Kes had tried to explain what was happening to her family and friends. The experience was quite disconcerting. The Doctor and B'Elanna finally devised a method they thought would stop the time traveling process using the bio-temporal chamber and anti-chronoton particles but while in the chamber Kes jumped again. She experienced her life through the point she was conceived in the womb before the time jumps reversed and she returned to the chamber. Finally the experiment was a success, stopping the jumps at the point Kes now woke up in.
"That was not pleasant," B'Elanna declared after the foursome had come out of the vision.
"No, it wasn't," Kes agreed.
"It at least gave us some warning about these Krenim, a species which uses temporal based weaponry," Kathryn pointed out.
"I can begin making modifications to the Promethium drive to withstand such weaponry. We already saw how effective modifying the targeting scanners with a parametric waveform was," Harry pointed out.
Such a modification in the vision had allowed Voyager's weaponry to overload the Krenim vessel weapons array in the alternate timeline.
"You looked good with your hair grown out like that, Kes," B'Elanna complimented. "And your daughter was beautiful."
"I find it highly disturbing that Harry Kim became my son in law," Harry pointed out.
"You aren't the only one that finds that disturbing," Kes agreed. "But given my increased life span I think we can wait a few years to have children. By that point if you do slow down our child's aging Harry will be too old."
Kathryn and B'Elanna also couldn't help glancing at their rings which matched Kes' in design but were different colors.
"Still…I think Harry should be encouraged to settle down with the Delaney sisters," Kathryn suggested, earning nods of agreement from the others.
"As with most of Kes' visions it seems the alternate timeline Voyager didn't even have a Promethium drive," Harry pointed out while unable to rid himself of the image of the alternate Kathryn and B'Elanna dying in front of Kes' eyes from an exploding console during the initial Krenim attack.
Kes sensed what her mate was thinking about and hugged him closer.
"We won't let them die, love," Kes assured, giving B'Elanna and Kathryn an indication of what their boyfriend was stressing over.
The sight of their own deaths had been disturbing for the two beauties as well.
"We'll be fine," Kathryn assured as she hugged one side of the wizard.
"Those Krenim won't know what hit them," B'Elanna added while hugging her mate's other side.
Harry's resolve solidified into a harsh weapon of willpower. If he had to wipe out the entire Krenim race so be it. They would not take two of his favorite mates from him.

Stardate 50836.2….
Voyager was supposed to be rendezvousing with a friendly race known as the Vastiguy with whom the Federation ship had been communicating with long range communications for several days.
"Ensign Kim, perhaps you could direct your attention to the sensors and tell us if we are nearing the Vastiguy space station," Tuvok requested.
"We should be getting close…but I'm not detecting it," HK replied.
"We're heading towards the right coordinates," Harry assured.
"I'm picking up debris," HK added.
"I can confirm. I am reading a debris field encompassing nearly eighty cubic kilometers," Tuvok put forth.
"The debris is from the space station," Harry pointed out as he brought the debris field up on screen.
"What could have happened to it? There were over sixty Vastiguy scientists onboard," Kathryn said.
"I'm detecting a residual particle trail in subspace from a spatial anomaly. The Promethium drive should protect us from the energy generated by this type of anomaly but I'll need closer readings to be sure," Harry announced.
"Set a course to follow this anomaly, Tom," Kathryn instructed.
"Aye Captain," Harry replied.
As Voyager followed the trail Harry indulged in one of his frequent pastimes of listening in on what his mates were up to through the nano-probes he had implanted throughout Voyager and via his extra-dimensional senses. B'Elanna and Kes were both currently in sick bay where B'Elanna was running one of her routine checkups on the holographic physician. B'Elanna had taken to performing these checkups regularly after some of the experimentations the Doctor had attempted on himself. The Doctor was proposing a new experiment where he and Denara created holographic children so that the Doctor could experience family life.
B'Elanna exchanged a look with Kes and it was obvious from Denara's conversation that she found the topic painful.
"Denara wants children but won't be able to have them as long as she is a hologram," Kes explained to B'Elanna telepathically.
Aloud, B'Elanna suggested, "Doctor, I do not think you will find the true family experience through a holo-deck experiment. Or rather it would be very difficult to do. How about you wait until you cure the Phage and can then transfer Denara back into her body," the Chief Engineer proposed. "By that point maybe Tom and I can come up with a way to get you a body of your own. Perhaps it would be possible given the studies we have been performing on those Borg we found."
"I had never considered that option," the Doctor mused. "Yes, I think waiting sounds about right."
Denara looked relieved and actually hopeful.
Harry's thoughts were interrupted from listening in on the conversation by the readings he was getting of the particle wake Voyager was following.
"Captain, the anomaly's trail is beginning to thin out. Wait…I'm detecting a new anomaly forming," Harry announced as the ship began to shudder. "Adjusting the Promethium drive manually," the sorcerer said while rapidly typing away at his console to control his construct.
The shuddering stopped.
"Something is coming out of subspace," HK declared.
Suddenly a bright blast of light formed on the view screen.
"It looks like a weaker miniature quasar," Harry pointed out. "We'd best back up a bit. The anomaly is moving in our direction and the Promethium drive is diverting much energy to the replicators."
"We could sit in that anomaly for a bit and have enough deuterium in storage to last years," Kathryn mused.
"The anomaly is dispersing," Harry announced moments before the anomaly vanished. "As for your idea Captain…it has merit but there is a chance we could burn out the power conduits on the replicators. They weren't made to channel that kind of energy. As it is I have had to add parallel conduits to handle the power from attacks absorbed by the Promethium drive."
"It was just a thought," Kathryn said. "That was something we have never heard of before let alone experienced. On a purely scientific level I think we owe it to ourselves to investigate."
"From the telemetry we just collected that appeared to be an astral eddy that formed at the confluence of space and subspace," Chakotay put forth.
In other words it was a portal through a layer between space and subspace.
"It's highly charged with plasma which explains the particle wake," HK added.
"I suspect there are conditions in this part of space which lend themselves to the formation of those eddies," Kathryn suggested. "Set sensors for continuous scans of subspace. Maybe we can anticipate the next one."
OP – Star Trek Voyager – OP – Star Trek Voyager – OP – Star Trek Voyager – OP
In the mess during his break Harry found B'Elanna sitting reading while drinking a cup of coffee.
"Indulging in another Klingon romance novel?" Harry teased as he sat down next to his mate. Harry knew his mate's penchant for the novels. "What is this one called?"
"Wouldn't you like to know?" B'Elanna bantered back with a small smile.
"Women Warriors at the River of Blood," Harry suggested.
"How did you know that?" B'Elanna asked.
"Come now my dear…I know you quite well by now," Harry assured with a mock cocky grin.
In truth B'Elanna had projected the title of the book in her attempt to conceal it and the sorcerer had telepathically picked the thought up.
"You're just lucky you are so loveable, Paris," B'Elanna growled before leaning forward and attempting to kiss the smirk off her lover's lips.
The couple continued to banter and share a pleasant meal for a few minutes before Harry sensed another portal opening up.
"We had best get to the bridge. Another eddy is about to form," Harry suggested while pointing out the mess hall window.
Moments later the bright light appeared and B'Elanna rose to follow her boyfriend towards the bridge. A couple of seconds after they left the mess hall Kathryn called senior staff to the bridge. B'Elanna was left pondering how her mate had known the eddy was forming.
As soon as they stepped on the bridge Kathryn said, "Tom, I want to send a probe into that anomaly. Will you hold position close enough to get accurate telemetry?"
"Yes," Harry agreed before taking the con. "This is a bit like surfing with the graviton waves this thing is throwing off," the sorcerer mused as the graviton waves broke off of the Promethium drive. Go ahead and send the probe."
"Probe has been launched," Tuvok announced several moments later.
The probe shot into the heart of the eddy.
"Telemetry is coming in now," HK informed his crewmates. "I'm reading a temperature gradient of nine million Kelvin. There are massive discharges of plasmatic energy and there is a perfectly calm eye in the center."
"Apparently some of the matter inside of the eye is being exchanged between space and subspace," Tuvok added.
"The eddy is dissipating," Harry announced. "The probe is inside of the interlayer between space and subspace."
"That must be where the eddies originate," B'Elanna pointed out.
"B'Elanna…I think we should be able to find a way using the same type of wormhole technology incorporated into the Paris array to clear up the communications with an enhanced probe. It'll be a little larger than your standard probe but it should work nicely," Harry mused.
"That could work…we should be able to get a very clear picture of what this interlayer looks like," B'Elanna agreed.
"How long do you think it will take you?" Kathryn queried, growing excited.
"It shouldn't take us too long. We'll get started on it right away," Harry replied.
"Very good…let me know if you need anything," Kathryn urged.
The Chief Engineer and her boyfriend left the bridge to head to the lab they shared.

"The probe is approximately three thousand kilometers from the eye of the eddy," Harry announced as he piloted the new probe manually from Voyager's helm, B'Elanna observing from beside him.
"The eddy is starting to dissipate," HK announced.
"The second eddy I have predicted should form shortly after this first one dissipates," Harry assured.
The best time to transition the probe into the interlayer was when any eddy first formed.
"Here it comes," HK agreed.
"And the probe is inside," Harry added as he seamlessly slipped the probe through the portal.
"The eddy is already beginning to dissipate," HK said.
"It's beautiful," B'Elanna declared as video taken by the new probe fed to the view screen in real time. Columns of light connected the sky and the bottom of this layer in all directions at random intervals. These columns were like cyclones spinning whatever gas was trapped in this interlayer. They were eddies forming. "The data we're getting back is even more amazing."
"I'm going to see how far the probe can go and if everywhere in the interlayer looks the same," Harry announced as he caused the probe to move.
"What just happened?" Kathryn asked as the screen blurred.
"The probe appears to be moving too fast for us to communicate with it. This is strange…matter moves differently in this interlayer than it does here," Harry answered.
With a chagrinned expression Kathryn suggested, "Well we can continue to monitor the probe's activity and communicate when it is stationary. Starfleet has already recommended that we move on once we got the probe into the interlayer. They will send Warp 10 shuttles controlled by holographic entities similar to the Doctor here to study this phenomenon further. You can still monitor their progress remotely thanks to the Paris array. Take us into Warp heading back towards the Alpha Quadrant."
"Aye Captain," Harry agreed. The mage punched out a few commands on the helm and Voyager jumped back to Warp speed. "If you don't mind B'Elanna and I would like to go study some of this data from the probe now."
"By all means," Kathryn agreed.
Harry already knew quite a bit about the interlayer. It was a dimensional transitionary layer. There were also such layers that rested between the four dimensional layer most mortals inhabited and the higher dimensions from which wizards, witches, and Q drew their power. Through these higher layers Harry had discovered a faster means of propulsion was possible. It was through one of these layers that his ring portal system worked and through what he thought was one of the highest layers that he could instantaneously transport himself through. The Q lived on one of these layers as well. The interlayer between each dimensional plane made the transition between planes more difficult.

Stardate 50884.3…
Harry was having lunch with B'Elanna and Kes when Hogwarts alerted him to the arrival of a cloaked ship out of Transwarp speeds. The cloak was quite advanced but Hogwarts could still detect it yet he didn't think the new ship could detect Hogwarts or the second Voyager.
"Are you picking this thing up, Harry?" Rain sent out to her lover, knowing his powerful telepathy would pick up her thoughts through the connection they shared.
Rain was in the lab Harry had gifted her onboard his mighty ship analyzing the scans the sensors had taken of the ship. There were two reptilian life forms onboard the new arrival. The new arrival was smaller than Voyager but not by much.
"Indeed…I'm scanning the ship now with my senses," Harry answered. "Our guests do not appear to have any harmful intentions towards us. They're quite advanced."
"Fascinating…LH is saying these beings are highly evolved Dinosaurs from Earth, a particular breed of Dinosaur, the hadrosaur," Rain announced as the Hogwarts AI she had colorfully nicknamed Lady Hogwarts (LH) projected a hologram of the evolution of the Hadrosaur.
"How interesting," Harry replied, truly finding this development fascinating. "It looks like they are transporting onboard."
"I've got to get to sickbay for my shift. I'll see you two later," Kes said as she stood and kissed Harry before departing.
"Now let's go see what the problem really is with the rear sensor array," B'Elanna suggested.
"I bet you it's an anodyne relay," Harry suggested as he led the way out of the mess hall.
"I know better than to bet against you, Tom," B'Elanna told her mate as she followed him.
Harry tried not to let on that he could see the two humanoid Hadrosaurs that were standing nearby under phase-cloak.
"Male and female interacting…let's observe," Professor Forra Gegen of the Voth Paleontological Circle suggested to his assistant Tova Veer.
The couple went into Main Engineering and Harry began a diagnostic of the faulty system.
"See…this is why I don't bet against you," B'Elanna declared as the results showed the problem was what Harry had predicted. B'Elanna noticed her mate drawing a phaser and typing something out on the control. Before she could ask he turned and fired twice in quick succession. The beam seemed to cause two forms to shimmer into visibility for a second before resolving fully into two aliens. "How did you know?"
"I've got my personal computer scanning subspace around me at all times," Harry replied.
"We'd better call security," B'Elanna suggested while Harry kept his phaser on the two Voth. After doing so B'Elanna crouched over the reptilian beings and said, "In the meantime let's see about stripping them of technology."

Forra swam to consciousness and sat up in an open room on the ship of the humans he and his assistant had been observing. Tova was still unconscious on the medical table next to him. Forra could tell a force-field surrounded where the two Voth were lying.
"Why do you invade our ship?" Kathryn asked.
Forra couldn't understand the human and obviously their translation program wasn't adapting quickly enough for when he tried to speak all the humans heard was a series of clicking noises.
"Try it now," Harry suggested after typing out a series of commands into a handheld computer.
"Why did you invade our ship?" Kathryn queried.
This time Forra heard the question clearly.
"I am Professor Forra Gegen and this is my assistant Tova Veer. We are members of the Voth Paleontological Circle and we came onboard your ship on a field expedition," Forra answered. "We wanted to learn more about your species. We meant no harm. I'm a molecular paleontologist."
"Your species evolved on the same planet as ours," Harry surmised which caused the others in the room to look at him sharply.
"How do you know this?" Forra probed.
"You share dozens of genetic markers with hundreds of species from our home planet Earth," Harry answered. "And this is what the Hadrosaur from our planet would look like today if it evolved," the sorcerer added while projecting a hologram of the model from his personal computer.
The hologram looked exactly like Forra and Tova.
"He's right…over forty-seven genetic markers match human DNA," the Doctor confirmed.
"Well Professor, it looks like we have a lot to talk about," Kathryn declared.
"Indeed," an excited Forra agreed.

"If a complex form of life had evolved on Earth you would think it would have left some clue behind," Chakotay suggested.
"I think they did," Harry mused. "What was thought to be remnants of satellite communications, laser based weaponry, and other technologies have been found at the bottom of the ocean. This land mass that sunk is thought to be the lost continent of Atlantis."
"I've never heard of this," Kathryn said in amazement.
"The discoveries were made long before the formation of Starfleet and most of the artifacts have since been lost to private collectors and tomb raiders. I'm sure the current administration knows nothing about the discovery," Harry explained.
In truth the artifacts were found by wizards who didn't really know what they were. The artifacts were most likely destroyed during the wars that took out the wizarding world.
"We won't even bother asking how you know about them then," B'Elanna said wryly.
"Some of my people must have developed space faring technology and left the planet," Forra suggested.
"And they ended up here in the Delta Quadrant," Chakotay suggested from his seat at the conference table next to Forra.
"Our true origins have been lost over the eons and replaced with Doctrine spouting a myth that we were the first race to evolve," Forra mused. "I'm sorry I didn't simply make first contact from my ship. The Voth have very poor relations with non-saurian races. Mammals in particular are considered to be a lower life form." The paleontologist's tone was apologetic. "But I have never gotten to know any before."
"I hope we've changed your mind," Kathryn replied.
"Most definitely," Forra confirmed while his assistant nodded agreement.
"Captain," HK's voice broke into the meeting. "I'm reading a massive spatial displacement nearby. A large ship just dropped out of what I think is Transwarp."
"The city ship," Forra said in alarm. "They have found us."
The city ship as Forra called it was massive compared to Voyager. Even Hogwarts was barely larger than the Voth main ship.
"Red alert," Kathryn replied as she rushed onto the bridge.
"We're being probed," Harry heard from HK as he and the others rushed onto the bridge behind Kathryn.
"Promethium drive and conventional shields at maximum," Kathryn ordered. "Hail them."
"I'm afraid that won't help, Captain. They will simply capture your ship," Forra announced worriedly.
"They're locking onto the ship with an energy beam," HK added as Voyager shuddered momentarily.
"I'm compensating," Harry announced while the shuddering grew more intense.
The whole vessel shook violently as the Promethium drive worked to fight the foreign transporter beam and struggled to dissipate the power.
"We're going to be shaken apart at this rate," Kathryn cried.
"Like hell," Harry muttered while his fingers flew across his console.
Suddenly Voyager responded to the attack with a new project Harry had been working for some time to install. A spatial disruptor beam which caused a targeted region of space to expand and contract greatly with a frequency of several Gigahertz impacted the Voth city-ship's main power source. The Voth systems scrambled to shut down the reactor as the containment unit was utterly destroyed. The crippled city-ship experienced secondary explosions that rocked the massive vessel.
"What was that?" Kathryn asked in amazement.
"A new defense I've been working on in my spare time," Harry replied.
"Most impressive," Tuvok commented with an admiring tone to his voice.
"I'm cloaking us now. But I wouldn't like to bet that the Voth city-ship won't be able to detect us with deep scans," Harry announced.
"I think that is our cue to leave," Chakotay suggested.
"But you can't leave," Forra objected. "You are my conclusive proof that we come from the same planet."
"Forra, from what you have told us your government isn't ready for the truth. It appears they will go to great lengths to suppress your distant origin theory," Harry pointed out. "What you need is a way to broadcast your findings to all of your people so that your government can't suppress the truth before it is too late."
"What you suggest isn't possible. The mass communications systems are heavily monitored by the government and have strict computer protections. Our operating systems aren't simple binary coding," Tova interjected with a condescending tone.
Forra winced at his assistant's naivety and said, "Tova, don't be so naïve. I learned a long time ago to never say anything was impossible."
"I agree completely Forra," Kathryn replied. "Harry here is quite the genius. Given time and continued cooperation between yourself and this crew I believe we can help you formulate a plan to bring the truth of your past to your people. But for now we must leave this space or risk a battle that will hinder both our goals."
"I agree Captain. I will make contact again after I have led the city-ship away from your path back to Earth and after I'm sure they won't trace us back to you. I suggest you remain cloaked. Come Tova," the elder paleontologist said before transporting himself and his assistant back to his ship using the technology Tuvok had returned.
Harry and B'Elanna had already performed extensive scans on the Voth equipment and could now duplicate the technology. Personal phase-cloaks would come in handy for the Federation.
"Now, care to tell me what that weapon you attached to my ship is?" Kathryn prompted with one eyebrow raised.
"I'd like to know that myself," B'Elanna added after she had stepped off the turbo-lift in time to hear the last part of the conversation.
Harry's grin was somewhat disarming for his two mates but they wouldn't be so easily dissuaded.
"I'd be happy to," Harry answered after setting a course back towards Earth at top speed.
The mage then began to give an impromptu lecture on his spatial disruptor technology to an enraptured bridge crew.
