Chapter 103

Two Weeks after Joining the Fleet

Harry had been observing the interactions of Gaius Baltar and the energy being Harry was for the moment calling Shelly Godfrey. Shelly Godfrey was the name the blonde cylon which Gaius Baltar had been screwing on Caprica before the fall of the colonies went by. Harry wasn't sure if this energy being was an extension or manifestation of that Caprica cylon or if the energy being was an entirely different being altogether. Harry was too reluctant to try using legilimency on her. But he had no such compulsions about Gaius. Harry had created a tiny rune-based relay for his legilimens abilities which he had planted on Gaius at a time when Gaius had been sleeping. Gaius wore a prized pendant beneath his shirt. It had been a simple matter to transfigure the relay into the necklace and switch the relay for the necklace. Harry had been worried about Shelly discovering the relay but in almost a week of observation that had yet to occur.

It appeared that Shelly spent a great deal of time trying to convince Gaius to believe in her one true god. She enticed him by fucking him copiously. Harry knew of a technique to live the experience of a copied memory. But to do so would mean that he would also have to experience the emotions of the person the copied memory came from and risk being changed by it. Harry was almost willing to take the risk for the chance to get to experience sex with the gorgeous Shelly…almost.

"For frack's sake," Gaius exclaimed as he stood up from the bed in the mental construct Shelly had created within his mind of his old bedroom at his lake house on Caprica. "I can't take this anymore," Gaius said as he walked over to look out the window.

"I'm trying to save your immortal soul, Gaius," Shelly said as she turned to face him.

"No…what you are doing darling is boring me to death with your superstitious drivel," Gaius replied while lowing his face to her level momentarily. "Your metaphysical nonsense," Gaius added. Harry could tell from her expression that Shelly was getting pissed. "Which to be fair actually appeals to the half-educated dullards that make up most of human society. But which I hasten to add no rational, intelligent, free-thinking human being," Gaius ranted as he turned away from Shelly back towards the lake. Shelly put her hands up and threw them out in frustration before silently leaving the bedroom. "Which leads me to the inescapable conclusion that cylons are in the final…," Gaius paused as he turned back and realized Shelly had left. While walking over to the bedroom door to find Shelly he called out loudly, "That cylons are in the final analysis little more than toasters." Gaius opened the door and upon not seeing Shelly whispered, "With great looking legs." He shouted, "It's my fantasy. See if I care." Gaius went over and sat on the bed. "I'll dream up someone new maybe," Gaius whispered.

Harry internally was unsettled by Gaius' close-minded ignorance of possibilities in the universe. While Harry wasn't exactly the most religious sort he had seen enough supernatural power to keep an open mind. Shelly Godfrey was a very powerful entity from what little Harry had been able to observe of her. She was controlling Gaius' mental construct entirely. If she wanted to she could turn Gaius' into a vegetable or possibly worse.

"A brunette maybe," Gaius continued to whisper. There was the sound of knocking on the bedroom door only it sounded more metallic and the door was wooden. Gaius stood from the bed and while turning to open the door called out, "Maybe we can dispense with foreplay and get right down to…"

Gaius stopped as he opened the bedroom door and realized he was opening the hatchway to his lab to be met with the sight of Galactica's coms officer Anastasia Dualla.

"What did you say?" Dualla asked in bewilderment.

"Oh that…oh it was nothing," Gaius said with a quiet chuckle. "I was just talking to myself. I talk to myself." He raised his hands in surrender and said, "Hang me."

Dualla cleared her throat and said, "The Commander would like to see you in the C.I.C. Doctor."

Harry followed Baltar's movements piggy-backed on Baltar's mind to the C.I.C.

"Ah…there you are," Gaius said as he spotted Shelly in the C.I.C. in a Galactica uniform. "Very nice," Gaius said as he drew closer. "Blouse could have left a button open," Gaius whispered.

"Excuse me," Shelly said offended.

"Just a thought," Gaius said before turning to Adama. "You wanted to see me Commander?"

"Ms. Godfrey has brought some very disturbing accusations to my attention," William said. "I think you should have the chance to answer them in person."

"Thank you," Gaius said. "And she is…," Gaius said while looking around for the woman Adama was talking about.

Gaius knew a Ms. Godfrey but it couldn't be Shelly in his mind because only he could see her.

"She is standing right there," Colonel Tigh said while nodding towards Shelly.

"I'm right here," Shelly said as Gaius looked at her out of the corner of his eye.

"Of course you are," Gaius said while still not believing Shelly was who everyone else was seeing.

"Doctor, this is Ms. Godfrey," Lt. Felix Gaeta added while also nodding at and looking at Shelly.

"All of you can see her," Gaius muttered. "You can all see her," He said more loudly with amazement.

"She's standing right next to you," Tigh replied.

"Is something wrong?" William asked.

"No," Gaius said while freaking out inside and flashing back to many of the interactions he had with Shelly and her Caprica counterpart. "Umm…yes…maybe I um…you'll have to forgive me Ms. Godfrey. I…I'm very pleased if slightly puzzled to make your acquaintance," Gaius said while holding out his hand for her to shake.

"Don't touch me you traitor," Shelly said while recoiling back from Gaius' hand.

The smile slowly disappeared from Gaius' lips and then he glanced at Gaeta and Tigh before asking, "Is she talking to me?" To Shelly he said, "Are you talking to me?"

"You're the one who let the cylons into the defense mainframe," Shelly accused. "You betrayed your entire race. You're the man responsible for the holocaust and I am here to see that you are exposed and sentenced to death as the traitor you really are."

Gaius backed away slightly from Shelly and into William Adama. Adama's expression didn't bode well for Gaius.

"Doctor, Ms. Godfrey has made some startling accusations," William said.

"I've never seen this woman before in my life," Gaius replied.

"I'm not surprised you don't remember me. I was just a lowly systems analyst at the defense ministry," Shelly said. "Dr. Amerack was my associate."

"She says you sold out the human race," Tigh said. "That you let the cylons into our defense plans."

"Dr. Amerack told me that he had evidence that Dr. Baltar was involved in the sneak attack," Shelly added. "He was trying to reach the president and give her that information when he was killed."

"He told you that did he," Gaius said disbelievingly.

"Yes as a matter of fact," Shelly said.

"Well it's a pity he's no longer with us," Gaius replied. "How convenient that we only have your word for that."

"There's also this," Shelly said as she drew a disc labeled Colonial Defense Ministry and handed it to William. "He gave me this for safe keeping."

"It's ID coded," William said.

William led the group to a nearby room with a computer terminal handing it to Gaeta along the way.

"Dr. Amerack gave the disc to me before he died," Shelly explained.

"What…as opposed to after he died," Gaius said skeptically.

"On the disc is a photo captured from a security camera in the defense mainframe on Caprica," Shelly explained as Gaeta brought the image up from the disk on the computer. "It shows the Doctor entering the mainframe without permission the day before the attack. As you can see the man in the photo is carrying an explosive device."

"Sorry what…," Gaius said as he looked closer at the terminal in bewilderment. "I definitely never did that," Gaius added.

"Just before the cylon attack the entire defense mainframe was destroyed by this device," Shelly explained.

"Honestly…that is not me…I wasn't there," Gaius said. "It's somebody else. I'm not the man in the photograph."

"I see a man the same height and same build as Dr. Baltar," William admitted. "But it's a long way from proof Ms. Godfrey."

"Thank you Commander," Gaius said. "Now if we're quite done with this charade…"

Shelly cut Gaius off while putting reading glasses on and said, "I agree Commander but look here. In the faceplate of the computer terminal there is a reflection of the man's face."

Gaeta zoomed into the reflection.

"You can't tell anything from that," Tigh pointed out.

"With the right equipment the image can be enlarged and sharpened," Shelly replied. "We could see his face."

"Enlarging the image is no problem," Gaeta admitted while glancing at Gaius reluctantly. "It would take at least a day Sir."

"Mr. Gaeta, let me know as soon as you have an image," William ordered.

"Yes Sir," Gaeta responded.

"We're going to suspend all work on the cylon detector as well as your security privileges," William added.

Gaius looked at Shelly with a stunned expression.

Galactica's Infirmary

Harry stood watching along with Dr. Cottle as Kara slowly lowered herself out of the hospital bed and put weight on her injured leg.

"It's going to hurt like hell but it's supposed to," Cottle said.

Harry had a small shield up that non-magicals wouldn't notice to deflect the smoke Cottle was putting off. Cottle had a cigarette between his lips. Apparently the Colonials had never heard of designated smoking areas. Kara began to walk forward on crutches that Harry handed her.

"No…I can't," Kara said with pain in her tone after only her second step.

"Wait," Harry said as he bent down looked closer at Kara's injured leg.

Kara wondered what Harry was doing. She watched as he ran his hands up and down her leg. Immediately about half the pain vanished.

"What did you do?" Kara asked. "It feels better."

"Just a little trick I know," Harry said. "Try again."

Kara slowly started walking again. It was still painful but the pain was manageable.

"Thank you," Kara said gratefully.

"I can work with her Doc," Harry told Cottle.

"Ok. She's all yours," Cottle said before walking off.

Cottle was frankly amazed that Kara was so restrained around Harry. Usually she would be swearing up a storm.

"Do you think you can do a bit more?" Harry asked.

"I think so," Kara answered.

Harry helped Kara start to walk again. She did really good for fifteen minutes but then the pain started to return.

"I think that's a good start," Harry said.

"Can you do that trick again?" Kara asked.

"I can make it hurt less but only while I am massaging it. If I massage the injury long enough it may or may not stop hurting as much," Harry explained.

"Give it a go," Kara asked while nodding towards her leg.

Harry started massaging Kara's leg and she moaned in pleasure at the relieving sensation. Harry enjoyed giving Kara the massage. Having his hands on her was always of the good. Meanwhile Harry was also monitoring as Shelly came onto Adama and tried to seduce William. William immediately ordered Tigh to put Shelly under surveillance and to do a background check. Harry decided that now might be a good time to talk to her.

Shelly's Quarters

Shelly heard a knock on her hatchway and went over to open it. When she did open the hatchway she found a dark haired man with bright green eyes at her door. Something about him set Shelly on edge a little bit.

"Yes," Shelly said in a questioning tone. "How can I help you?"

"I'm Harry Potter," Harry said while holding out his hand.

"Ah…the man who rescued Starbuck and brought back the cylon raider," Shelly said as she accepted the handshake.

"Yes," Harry replied.

"What can I do for you?" Shelly asked.

Shelly had heard an odd rumor from Gaius that this man was responsible for saving so many lives during the bombing. But nothing had been said of how he was responsible.

"Nothing," Harry said. "I just wanted to meet you. I find you very fascinating."

Shelly wasn't sure how to respond to that.

"In what way?" Shelly asked as she cocked her head to one side and studied her guest.

Perhaps he just wanted to screw her like most men who saw her did. That was one of the reasons that Shelly had chosen this form. It made it so much easier to get things done when most men and even many women wanted to bed her.

"Well there is how gorgeous you are. And then there is the fact that you are far more than what you seem," Harry said.

Shelly's heart raced. Did he know something about her true nature. Shelly looked up and down the hallway before reaching out and taking Harry by the wrist. She pulled him into her quarters and pushed the hatch shut before turning to look at him blocking the hatch.

"You are pretty good looking yourself," Shelly said. Shelly stepped in close and grasped Harry's crotch. "And are very well equipped. In what way am I more than I seem?"

Shelly hadn't let go of Harry's crotch and stroked his member to hardness through his pants. She could tell he was really enjoying it. Harry moved so fast that Shelly barely followed as he grasped both of her wrists and pinned them above her head against the wall and holding them there with one hand. While his left hand restrained her his right dipped down and cupped her sex. Shelly moaned against the grasp and struggled against his grip. He was strong…very strong.

"I see your tactics Shelly," Harry whispered.

"What are you?" Shelly asked. "I'm not the only one who is more than they seem."

Shelly thought she could go incorporeal and escape from this situation if she wanted to. But his hand was doing wonderful things.

"I would say I'll show you mine if you show me yours…but I'm already feeling yours," Harry said and then made her cum.

Shelly thrashed against the door in climax and lost herself to it. When she opened her eyes from her release he was gone. Shelly didn't know what the hell he was but he wasn't one of her kind. Shelly was left with a lingering desire for more.

Haven

Harry reappeared in his lab and went over to the prepared runic container. He whispered the words of a spell and watched as a fiery red energy boiled out of his hand and into the container. As the spell finished the runes on the container burned brightly for a moment before dying down. The spell had worked. Harry shrunk the container and stuck it in his enchanted pocket. He had captured the essence of Shelly's passion from her climax. If she proved to be dangerous to Harry he was pretty sure that the runes on the container would use her essence to disintegrate her despite her being an energy being.

Revealing to her that he was more than he seemed was a risk. But the reward of having a weapon against her with a reasonable certainty of it working was worth it. Plus getting her off like that had been damn fun.

"Let the games begin," Harry whispered with a grin.

Gaius was getting desperate. Gaius set a small fire in a section of Galactica relatively close to the lab where Lt. Gaeta was working on the image enhancement. Gaius then ran into the lab

"Come on…erase…erase damn you," Gaius hissed as he typed at the computer Gaeta had been working on.

The erasure wouldn't work. Gaius ran around the lab for a moment before trying to pry open the disc drive using a chisel-shaped lab tool and a hammer. When that didn't work Gaius resorted to pulling out the monitor wires. Still that didn't work so Gaius picked up a stool and prepared to hit the computer.

"Put it down," William shouted as he came into the lab accompanied by Colonel Tigh and a group of marines. "Put the stool down," Adama ordered as Gaius slowly drew back from the computer. "Take him to the brig," Adama told the marines.

"Yes Commander," Sgt. Buckman replied.

"I would…like to speak to my attorney," Gaius said as he was carried out. "I need some representation here. It's not what it looks like."

The Flight Deck

"I hear you are having problems with this baby," Kara said as she hobbled on crutches up to the cylon raider.

"Yes…we can't figure out the controls," Tyrol replied.

"Well I've studied the analysis Harry did and think I can make it work," Kara admitted. "Let me at her." Harry was standing invisibly nearby watching Kara. "Harry's analysis neglected to mention how smelly and fracking gross it was in here."

Within moments Kara had the raider powered up.

"That's what I'm talking about," Tyrol called happily loud enough that Kara could hear it even from within the raider. "Maybe you should take it out for a test flight."

"Give me a few minutes to get familiar with the controls first," Kara called.

"Just don't shoot anything," Lee said as he approached.

"I don't plan on it," Kara rebutted. "But you never know…I might accidentally hit the wrong control," Kara added in a teasing tone. Inwardly Kara thought to herself, "Though that is doubtful since Harry's analysis seems to be spot on. No big surprise there."

Those present on the hangar deck waited for about a half hour as the raider slowly raised up in the air, spun in place, rotated vertically once it was high enough, and went through another series of slow movers within the tight confines of the hangar.

"Are you ready yet?" Lee asked.

"I think I'm ready. But I wouldn't mind being in a space suit," Kara added.

"You can't fit in a space suit with your leg brace on," Lee pointed out.

Kara thought fast. She was willing to bet Harry could extend his shield around her if he needed to in a pinch.

"Let me contact Harry and see if he'll ride along," Kara said as she called out of the raider.

"Why?" Lee asked in confusion.

Lee didn't know the specifics of Harry's shielding ability.

"He can protect me without needing a spacesuit," Kara admitted.

Lee was even more confused by that.

"How is that?" Lee asked.

"It's advanced technology. Just let me contact him," Kara insisted.

"Alright," Lee agreed.

Kara contacted Harry.

While Harry was lying snugly against Kara Thrace in the captured cylon raider, Gaius Baltar was not having a good time of it.

"God…please…I will serve your will. I will devote myself to you. I believe now," Gaius muttered to himself over and over as he sat in a cell terrified of being executed for treason.

Shelly stood by invisibly witnessing Gaius' breakdown. She smirked to herself. All had gone according to plan. She briefly considered the idea of abandoning her toy that was Gaius and going after Potter. But Potter was too much of an unknown quantity. Despite his intellect, Gaius was too easy to manipulate.

"There, there," Shelly said as she took Gaius into her dream-scape and cradled his head. "I'm here now. All will be ok…according to God's plan."

As she spoke Lt. Gaeta entered the brig.

"Open the door," Gaeta ordered a guard.

Gaius came out of the dream-scape and back to awareness of his surroundings as Gaeta entered the cell.

"What is going on?" Gaius asked.

"What is going on is that you have been cleared of the charges," Gaeta explained. "I rechecked the photo and discovered that it was a fake. I couldn't tell until the image completely resolved itself."

"Thank you Lt. Gaeta," Gaius said as he gratefully hugged Gaeta.

"I knew you weren't the kind of man to be involved in a cylon attack," Gaeta said.

"I won't forget your loyalty to me Lieutenant," Gaius said.

Gaeta nodded and said, "I have already let the Commander know. I believe the president is preparing a press conference. Let's get you cleaned up."

"Yes. Let's do that," Gaius said as he followed Gaeta out of the brig.

Gaius had just learned an important fact. Public opinion was very quick to turn and was a fickle entity.

Haven's Dining Room

"Thank you for agreeing to have dinner with me," Harry said.

"You saved my life," Kara pointed out. "I'm just surprised Commander Adama agreed to let me come over. We haven't verified you aren't a cylon yet."

"You searched my ship yourself and I think me saving his life went a long way to helping him decide," Harry suggested.

"True," Kara mused as she took a sip of the wine given to her.

"You clean up really nice Kara," Harry pointed out.

"Thank you. You don't look too shabby yourself," Kara said. "Fracking hot is more like it. Good enough to eat," She thought to herself.

"So tell me more about yourself," Harry requested.

Harry and Kara both enjoyed their meal and getting to know one another. While Harry wasn't able to tell the complete truth about his past he stuck as close to the truth as possible. The tactic was one he had started to become very good at in recent times. Despite that he managed to enjoy the company of the beautiful woman.

Three Weeks after Joining the Fleet

Haven was no longer the only ship isolated from the fleet. A ship called the Gemenon Traveler had been isolated after a human-form cylon had been found onboard. This cylon was a copy of the man encountered before using the name Leoben Conoy.

OP – BSG – OP – BSG – OP – BSG – OP – BSG – OP – BSG – OP – BSG – OP – BSG – OP

Harry stood next to Kara onboard the Gemenon Traveler. The Traveler's Captain, Eric Breker, was also present.

"It's eerie how much like a human being it resembles," Captain Breker noted.

The Leoben cylon was lying with its head down on a steel table to which it was handcuffed.

"That feeling is what they wanted us to feel when they created this model," Harry replied. "You can have the feeling…just try not to let it control you."

Breker nodded his understanding. Kara had been tasked with interrogating Leoben. She had asked Harry to tag along.

"It's sweating," Kara commented.

"That is pretty freaky," Harry agreed.

"Let's get to it," Kara said before she tapped on the glass.

The Colonial marine standing guard opened the door and let Kara and Harry through. Kara set down her file folder and took a seat.

"Aren't you going to say hello," Harry said from where he stood slightly to Kara's right.

Leoben sat up and stared at both of the new arrivals.

"I was praying," Leoben replied.

"Do gods respond to prayers thought by toasters?" Kara asked in a taunting tone.

"God answers everyone's prayers," Leoben replied.

"How many cylons are there in the fleet?" Kara questioned.

"We haven't been properly introduced Leoben said with an eerie smile," Leoben said. Leoben brought his cuffed hands up on the table while holding them out to Kara. "I'm Leoben."

Harry reached down and took Leoben's hand which surprised Kara. Leoben also seemed surprised but hid it with a smile.

"I'm Harry," Harry said.

"And her?" Leoben asked as the handshake broke.

"She's blondie," Harry replied while just throwing out a random nickname.

"Sure she is," Leoben said in a skeptical voice. "I don't know how many cylons are in the fleet."

"How long have you been hidden onboard this ship?" Kara tried. "What was your mission here?"

"What is your real name?" Leoben asked Kara.

"Tell me about your mission and I may tell you," Kara probed.

"My mission was one of sabotage," Leoben said. "You smell," Leoben told Kara. "You on the other hand have virtually no odor like a cylon," Leoben noted of Harry.

"Mind games aren't going to work here. If you don't start talking we are out of here," Kara said while trying to hide how unsettling his observation of Harry was.

"You're Lieutenant Starbuck," Leoben said confidently.

Harry realized right away what was going on. Leoben had enhanced senses including smell and hearing. Captain Breker had met Harry and Kara in a nearby corridor. Leoben had heard Kara greeted by name. Leoben was using these advanced senses to play mind games. Kara appeared unnerved.

"That's a nice trick, toaster," Harry said. "You have advanced senses. You hear Kara addressed several corridors over."

The smirk disappeared from Leoben's face momentarily.

"You are observant," Leoben noted to Harry. Turning back to Kara Leoben said, "I planted a nuclear warhead onboard one of your ships. This warhead will go off at 18:30 hours."

"Is he lying?" Kara asked Harry.

Harry gazed intently at Leoben. Leoben gazed intently back. Leoben was made up of a lot of biological components but wasn't fully biological. Harry tried using legilimency but the connection didn't form with Leoben's mind. Harry was wondering about compulsion spells.

"He can't tell," Leoben said, making the assumption because Harry was taking too long. "And you can't take the chance. Now run back to you military masters and let them decide."

Kara stood and left with Harry following behind her walking backwards. Harry never turned his gaze from Leoben.

OP – BSG – OP – BSG – OP – BSG – OP – BSG – OP – BSG – OP – BSG – OP – BSG – OP

"So your masters sent you back to me," Leoben said as Kara and Harry returned to the room.

"Let's talk about something else," Kara said as she sat back down.

"How about the gods. Do you believe in the Lords of Kobol?" Leoben asked.

"Where is the warhead?" Kara questioned.

"You pray to Artemis and Aphrodite," Leoben said probingly.

Leoben read the micro-expressions on Kara's face and surmised he had guessed right.

"Why do you want to know?" Harry asked.

"Our faiths are similar," Leoben said. "My kind look to one god and not many. To know the face of god is to know madness. I see the universe. I see the patterns. I see the foreshadowing that precedes every moment of every day. It's all there. I see it and you don't. I have a surprise for you…something to tell you about the future."

"And what would that be?" Kara said, deciding to play along for now.

"You have to see this through to the end," Leoben replied just as a marine came in and delivered a tray of food to Kara and a tray to Harry.

Harry pulled up a chair and sat down. Harry and Kara started eating.

"Go on. This is entertaining," Harry prompted Leoben.

"What is the most basic article of faith? This is not all that we are. See the difference between you and me is that I know what that means and you don't. I know that I'm more than this body…more than this consciousness. A part of me swims in the stream but in truth I'm standing on the shore. The current never takes me downstream," Leoben said.

"This food is worse than Galactica's chow and I didn't think that was possible," Kara said before setting her tray aside.

"You're referring to the fact that you don't experience the ravages of time and the fact that your consciousness can be picked up by technology and copied into an identical body," Harry said.

Leoben's gaze snapped to Harry and again the cylon showed momentary surprise. Harry had said it really casually but it was rattling the cylon that Harry knew so much. Harry had scanned Leoben with a few spells during the last visit and had taken the opportunity while Kara was reporting the bomb threat to analyze the scan results.

"Do you mind?" Leoben asked he gestured towards Kara's tray. Kara slid the tray over and Leoben began eating with a, "Thank you. I'm starving. I haven't eaten in days."

"That doesn't seem like good programming," Kara noted. "Why bother with hunger?"

"It's part of being human," Leoben replied.

"And your kind wants to mimic us perfectly," Kara said. "Well if it's true that you can't die then you failed." Kara nodded towards the marine that had remained in the room behind Leoben. The marine stepped forward and pistol-whipped Leoben. The cylon clutched at his head which was bleeding. "Allow me to introduce you to human pain. If you were a smart cylon you would turn off the pain software. But I think you lack some intelligence."

"I could turn it off and you wouldn't even know," Leoben said.

"I would know," Harry replied.

The marine stepped forward at a nod from Kara and pistol-whipped Leoben a second time.

"I see your dilemma. If you turn off the pain then you feel better. But then that makes you a machine," Kara said. "Human beings can't turn off our pain. We have to suffer and cry and scream and endure. Because we have no choice. So the only way you can avoid the pain that is coming and still fool yourself that you are human is to tell me exactly what I want to know. That is what a human would do."

"You are everything I expected. But this won't work. I won't tell you anything," Leoben said.

"Either way I'll beat you. I, a human being, bested you," Kara suggested.

"Let the games begin," Leoben replied with a grin.

Kara nodded and the marine pulled Leoben back before starting to punch the cylon. Harry and Kara watched this beating go on for some time.

"If you were human you would be just about ready to start offering up some false information," Kara informed Leoben as the cylon was set back upright in his chair. "I can almost forget that you aren't human. You're a machine."

Kara stood and stood back facing Leoben.

"I am more than you can ever imagine," Leoben said. "I am god."

Kara laughed and looked at Harry.

"Wow…deluded much," Kara said. "Nice to meet ya. That's good."

"It's funny isn't it. We're all god Starbuck, all of us," Leoben said. "Love binds all living things together."

"You don't know what love means," Kara said with no trace of a smirk on her lips.

"I know that god loved you more than all other living creatures," Leoben said. "You repaid his divine love with sin, hate, corruption, evil. So then he decided to create the cylons."

"The gods had nothing to do with it. We created you," Kara said. "Us…it was a stupid fracked decision and we have paid for it. You slaughtered my entire civilization. That is sin. That is evil. And you are evil."

Leoben took some blood from his lip and wiped it on the table.

"Am I?" Leoben asked. "I see the truths that float past you in the stream."

"You've got a real thing about rivers and streams, don't you," Kara said. "I think we should indulge you in your obsession," She said with a nod to the marines.

The two marines left to get some supplies. Kara sat down in her chair.

"Do you realize I could kill you before they came back in the room?" Leoben asked.

"I don't think so," Kara said confidently.

Leoben snapped his handcuffs apart and flipped the metal table. He surged for Kara to grab her by the throat but Harry's side kick hit the side of Leoben's face sending the cylon spinning. Harry leapt forward and landed on the cylon's back. Harry's arm came around Leoben's throat. The cylon tried fighting but didn't stand a chance.

When Leoben woke up a few minutes later the first thing he saw was a water tank.

"This looks promising," Leoben quipped.

Kara nodded at the marines who began dipping Leoben's head in the tank and holding him in. Harry and Kara left the room for a little while during the dunking. When they came back in they had a new plan.

"Tell me where the nuke is. I know what you think. You think that if this body dies it will just be transmitted to an identical body. But I'm here to tell you that isn't the case," Kara said. "Harry here is a very skilled inventor. He has been studying cylon consciousness transmission technology ever since he encountered a certain blonde female cylon model."

"I can block it with this device," Harry said as he held up a small circular device which actually contained a runic sequence.

Harry wasn't completely sure his device would stop the consciousness transferal but he was willing to try it.

"You're bluffing," Leoben said. "You don't have the technology for that."

"Oh we do," Kara said confidently. "How about we test it and find out," Kara suggested.

Leoben looked back and forth between Harry and Kara.

"I have a gift for you, Kara Thrace," Leoben said in a strange tone. "I predict you are going to find Kobol and through it Earth. I can see the future and know these things."

Before any further response could be made the door to the impromptu interrogation room opened up and revealed Laura Roslin standing there.

"What is going on here?" Roslin asked.

Kara didn't know how to answer that.

"The machine is being interrogated," Harry answered.

"Lieutenant, could I see you and your friend in the hall?" Roslin said in a tone that wasn't a request.

Harry and Kara entered the hallway.

"President Roslin, be advised that Harry figured out that the cylon is equipped with enhanced senses. He can hear us even here," Kara said.

Roslin looked surprised at this as she looked at the closed hatch cutting off the hallway from the interrogation room.

"President Roslin," Harry began.

"Laura is fine, Mr. Potter," Laura replied.

"Harry will do for me," Harry said. "I have prepared a device which I believe will block the cylon ability to transfer their consciousness to a duplicate body if their current form is destroyed. I also have built in a sensory dispersion field which will blunt their enhanced senses. I didn't get a chance to tell Kara about that," He said at Kara's surprised look.

"What else have you learned?" Laura asked.

"Leoben believes it can predict the future and just got done telling us that we would find Kobol and through it Earth when you arrived," Kara reported.

"Very well," Laura agreed. "What about the bomb?"

"I think he was just lying. That is what I'm going with after observing him for so long," Harry replied.

"I concur," Kara said.

"Bring Leoben into that corridor. I want to talk to it," Laura ordered the marines attending her.

A minute later Leoben entered the corridor nearest an airlock.

"A change of scenery," Leoben noted as he looked around.

"Do you know who I am?" Laura asked.

"Yes," Leoben replied.

"This conflict between our peoples doesn't have to continue. It can stop. I can free you," Laura said as she gestured to have Leoben's restraints removed. She waited until Leoben's hands were freed. "You can trust me. Please tell me where this warhead is as a show of good faith."

"I wanted to buy some time so I could make it closer so that my consciousness would be transferred. So I made up a story. There is no warhead," Leoben said. Leoben then surged forward and grabbed Laura before whispering, "Adama is a cylon."

Leoben was pulled off the president.

"Put this thing out of the airlock," Laura ordered.

The restraints were put back on Leoben. Harry produced a harness for his cylon suppressor and strapped it to Leoben's back. Leoben didn't make a sound of protest as he was put in the air lock.

"It told you what you asked for," Kara pointed out weakly.

"This thing puts insidious ideas in our heads which are more dangerous than any warheads. You don't keep a deadly machine around when it creates fear," Laura said.

"There is no fear of death," Kara noted.

Leoben's face was expressionless as it was vented into space.

"I suggest you two go have a drink," Laura said. "You look like you could use it."

Seven Weeks after Joining the Fleet

"I can assure you that the fuel shortage is our number one priority," Laura Roslin stated as part of her latest state of the fleet announcement. "Galactica has ships scouring nearby systems for Tylium. Yes," Laura said while pointing to one of the reporters that had raised a hand.

"Madam President, Tylium ore is extremely rare. If we don't find any how long until the fleet runs out of fuel," Sekou Hamilton asked.

"That all depends on how well we conserve," Laura replied after a pause to consider her response.

"Isn't it a fact Madam President that we only have enough for two more jumps," Playa Palacios asked as she stood without being prompted and held out a digital recorder.

"Yes, that is correct," Laura said while knowing that Palacios had already known the answer. "Even after the end of our society reporters are still the same looking for sensational bad news," Laura thought to herself.

Taking pity on the president and not amused at the antics of Palacios, Hamilton asked, "Do we have a contingency plan in the event that we run out of Tylium?"

Harry had managed to plant spying devices that conveyed visual feeds to him in addition to the audio he had started out with. This allowed him to see as Laura seemingly zoned out for several long moments while the reporters waited for her answer. Laura started to speak but then stop. She tried to hide it but she looked visibly ill.

"If that were to happen we would lose our last fuel to the nearest planetary system," Laura answered.

"And pray we were lucky enough to find a habitable planet," Palacios said skeptically. Laura looked down at the microphones on her podium with discomfort. "Madam President without fuel to take even the most basic evasive maneuvers…"

"No," Laura said cutting Palacios off.

Then Laura cut off.

"We'd be like ducks in a cylon shooting gallery," Palacios said.

"Yes we would," Laura said before trailing off again and looking down. "I'm…I'm sorry. That is all for now."

Laura turned from her podium and left the room.

The situation with the Tylium was definitely an issue. Harry had figured out how to permanently conjure enough Tylium ore for his ship and enough extra to power maybe three more ships of the same class. But that was nowhere near enough Tylium for the fleet. There was the possibility of using space-expansion charms on the holds of those ships to accommodate many more people but he wasn't sure that included the entire population of the fleet. He paused in his complex calculations on how much he could push the space-expansion charm when his spying tools reported back that Tylium had been located on an asteroid. There was just one problem…the asteroid was crawling with cylons mining that Tylium ore.

"Kara…what can I do for you?" Harry asked as Kara's face came up seemingly as a hologram before him.

In truth Kara just thought the communicator he had given her used holographic technology. In truth Harry was using illusion relays like a hologram would be used.

"I'll have to take a rain check on lunch until the current situation is over. I'm being called into a meeting to plan an attack on the cylon mining operation," Kara explained.

"The Tylium refinery?" Harry said questioningly.

"Yes…Commander Adama wants me for my crazy thinking I believe," Kara said.

"There is no one better suited," Harry said in a teasing tone.

"Watch it or I'll kick your ass," Kara said with a grin.

"Any time any place," Harry rebutted with a matching grin. "Just let me know if you need any help kicking toaster ass."

"Will do," Kara said. "Later," She added.

Harry nodded and she cut the transmission.

"You need to hit the tanks with the Tylium precursor. You should get a suitably devastating explosion without the radioactive fallout," Gaius said.

The radioactivity from a nuclear detonation would render the Tylium ore inert.

"Where is that right spot?" Kara asked Gaius.

Kara and Colonel Tigh were visiting Gaius in the man's lab looking over images taken of the refinery. Gaius went into his mindscape where he was laying on a table being massaged by Shelly.

"I need your advice on this," Gaius said to Shelly.

"I'm flattered Gaius. But I don't know the first thing about Tylium refineries," Shelly replied.

"Neither do I," Gaius admitted. "You must have an inkling where I should tell them to bomb."

"No. But god does," Shelly said.

"Suppose god doesn't want me to destroy the base because…he's the cylon god," Gaius put forth.

"God doesn't take sides," Shelly replied. "He only wants your love. Open your heart to him and he'll show you the way."

"It would be a lot simpler if he came and told me," Gaius said.

"You must remember to surrender your ego," Shelly advised. "Remain humble."

Gaius came out of the vision.

"Right there," Gaius said as he pointed to a spot on the refinery.

"I just don't know if Lee can pull it off," Kara said as she sat across from Harry at the dinner table.

Kara was sitting in Harry's dining room onboard Haven. She had just got done telling him that due to her leg not being fully healed she wasn't being allowed to fly in the mission to take out the cylon Tylium refinery.

"That is hard to hear. If it would make you feel better I could see if I could rig up a remote control system for a raptor," Harry suggested.

"You would do that for me?" Kara asked.

"I would see what I can do," Harry answered.

"Thank you," Kara said. "But I don't think that will be necessary. Lee will have to pull it off."

"There is a bigger problem. Gaius didn't know the location of the precursor storage tanks. He just guessed. He was close though. A shot that was close but didn't quite make it would probably set off the precursor tanks," Harry said.

"Thank you. I knew he seemed too certain," Kara said. "I'm glad I asked you." Kara looked over the map he had handed her indicating the correct location to strike. "I just don't understand why he tried bluffing a response instead of just admitting he didn't know."

"He was probably afraid to lose his status which his knowledge allows him," Harry said. "I've seen it before. I choose to think of it as a mark of arrogance."

"No doubt," Kara said. "But if a poorly aimed shot doesn't ignite the precursor tanks then we are in big trouble."

"Indeed," Harry said before they continued the conversation talking of different matters.

Galactica Operations Center

"They spotted our attack force," Lt. Gaeta announced. "Cylon raiders are moving to intercept."

"How many?" Commander Adama asked into the tense silence.

"Fifty," Gaeta announced.

Galactica had fielded twenty ships for the initial attack force.

"How long until intercept?" Adama asked.

"Thirty-three seconds Sir," Gaeta answered.

"Put up the com chatter on the overhead," Adama ordered.

Those present listened to the raptor pilots engaging the enemy. It quickly turned heated as there were shouts and cries of alarm coming from the engagement.

"They're getting cut to pieces," Starbuck said even as the destruction of several raptors was announced.

Commander Adama wore a tense expression and waited ten seconds after Starbuck's declaration to say, "Order the return of the attack force to the ship."

Gaeta relayed the order.

"Sir, our raptor force is returning to Galactica," Gaeta reported.

"Are the cylons following them or engaging the decoys?" Commander Adama asked.

"They are following the raptor force," Gaeta replied. "And sending out twenty more cylon raiders," Gaeta said while trying to keep the alarm out of his tone.

"Starbuck, this is your plan. Take the lead," Commander Adama ordered.

Kara nodded and looked at the screen. She waited until the raiders were too far from the asteroid base to intervene.

"Lt. Gaeta, relay to Apollo the message the backdoor is open," Kara ordered.

Harry who was watching this whole situation from Haven smirked and thought to himself, "I'll have to find out later if the backdoor means the same thing here as where I'm from."

Harry was rather distracted at the thought of Kara's backdoor in a sexual way. When the message had been relayed a second force of raptors consisting of nine ships appeared on the screen from the decoy freighters.

"Why didn't you tell me we had a second force of raiders hidden in reserve Lieutenant Thrace?" Roslin asked Kara.

"That was my decision," Commander Adama spoke up. "I'm used to keeping information of sensitive military operations restricted to need to know. Sorry…old habits die hard."

In other words Adama didn't fully trust Roslin. Laura didn't really blame him. The cylon detector wasn't fully up and running yet. For all William Adama knew Roslin could very well be a cylon.

"Well I'm just glad this operation stands a chance of succeeding now," Laura said.

Harry checked the status of the little surprise he left waiting for the cylons near the Tylium refinery if things didn't go well with Apollo's attack group. Harry had created a runic missile which would channel a massively overpowered blasting curse into the precursor tanks should Harry activating it. The missile used the same enchantments as a broom. The guidance on the runic missile homed in on whatever target Harry concentrated on when he said the activation phrase. The activation phrase in this case was a series of numbers and letters so that he didn't accidentally say it. He was hoping not to have to use the missile and reveal another one of his tricks. But time would tell.

"We're beginning our attack run now," Apollo said over the radio.

Harry had been warring with himself on if he should risk another approach to this plan. In that moment as Apollo's group began the attack Harry made a decision. He spun up the FTL drive on Haven and moments later it was gone. Haven returned to normal space very close to the tylium refinery.

"We're being cut to pieces out here," Cadet Katraine called over the radio.

Indeed, Harry glanced out the window and saw that the weapons batteries surrounding the refinery were opening up on Apollo's group. As Harry glanced out he saw two raptors being taken out. Harry just hoped the safety devices he had put in each of the raptors before the mission did their jobs. Harry checked he had his weapons on himself and then focused on the view of the refinery down below. Harry had done a fly-by the day before under cloak to get some Intel on the layout. Harry apparated. He reappeared in corridor near the refinery's central control room. The moment he reappeared Harry was confronted with two cylon non-human models.

The non-human models A.K.A. toasters turned at the sound of Harry's arrival. They were in the process of manifesting their hand-canons when Harry drilled them both with focused blasting curses. The toasters practically disintegrated as they flew apart.

"Two down and one hundred twenty-eight to go," Harry said.

Part of Harry's reconnaissance had included gathering a fairly accurate account of the number of cylons in the refinery complex. Harry took off running towards the control room. As he did he pulled out his communicator and triggered the sequence that let Kara know he wanted to talk.

"What is it Harry? I'm kind of right in the middle of something," Kara whispered.

"I know," Harry said. "In about a minute," Harry began while blasting another toaster. "Those weapons batters firing at Apollo's group are going to shut down. I would appreciate it if you wouldn't blow the place up."

"What? Why? What makes you think the weapons batteries are going to shut down?" Kara demanded while her voice grew in volume.

Harry was forced to raise a shield as four toasters opened up on him at once. The toasters were nice enough to stand fairly close together in one section of the corridor. Harry lashed out with a ribbon cutting curse and cut all four toasters in half.

"Because I'm in the refinery control room and am going to shut them down," Harry said even as he entered the control room and cut through the toasters there while being careful not to damage any of the control consoles.

There was stunned silence from the other end while Harry located the weapons controls and began shutting them down.

Harry heard Kara say over the com, "Sir, I think you are going to want to halt the attack."

Harry heard the com device changing hands.

"Talk fast Mr. Potter," William Adama said in an unamused tone.

"I have a stealth ship Sir. I'm trying to take the compound without harming the refinery infrastructure," Harry explained. "I didn't want what I was doing known to the entire fleet so contacted Kara through this com device. I only have 111 toasters to take out Sir. Then this compound will be ours."

"Oh is that all," William said sarcastically.

"The weapons batteries just stopped firing," Apollo said in wonderment.

Apollo was not privy to the conversation going on in the command center of Galactica.

"Sir, I suggest you recall Apollo's group to deal with the group of raiders heading for Galactica," Harry suggested.

"I'll do that but then I'm sending you backup," William said suddenly realize Potter wasn't full of shit.

"They might not be needed by the time they arrive Sir. I'm going to go on the offense," Harry announced before the com went offline.

"The crazy son of a bitch is actually taking on over a hundred cylons by himself," Tigh exclaimed.

"Can he do it?" William asked Kara seriously.

Everyone present was interested in her response.

"I don't know. He has never struck me as the boastful sort. So if he said he could do it…then he probably can," Kara said.

Tylium Refinery 1.5 Hours Later…

William Adama stepped into the landing bay of the refinery and was greeted by his son and the sight of over a dozen cylon toasters in shreds.

"He really did it," William said.

"He really did," Lee told his father.

"Is he injured?" William asked while he started walking.

"Not a scratch," Lee said.

"I've got Baltar waiting when we get back to test Potter. I pressed Baltar and he finally admitted to being ready to test a small group of people. Though he isn't ready for mass verification of humanity," William explained.

"Are we sure Potter isn't something other than cylon or human?" Lee asked.

Looking at the carnage around him that was the remains of over a hundred cylons William honestly answered, "I don't know. But given that he saved our viper pilots I'm willing to extend him the benefit of the doubt."

Harry had invented an ejection module for the vipers which pulled each passenger into a suspended animation state within a shield bubble. The shields were only strong enough to hold a single occupant protected from the vacuum of space for maybe two hours and wouldn't stand up to weapons fire after surviving the initial destruction of the viper. But the shields were good enough to save the lives of pilots. To Commander Adama and his son that was what mattered most.
