Chapter 104

Nine Weeks after Joining the Fleet

"That…was…fracking…amazing," Kara said as she collapsed onto her back next to Harry.

"Yeah," Harry said with a huge grin.

Kara took one look at his expression and laughed.

"So articulate Mr. Potter," Kara said teasingly. Harry just hummed approvingly and wrapped his arm around Kara. She laid her head on his shoulder and kissed him when he turned his head to do so. "Definitely going to have to do that again…often," Kara whispered after they broke the kiss and she had laid her head upon him.

Harry and Kara were in his bedroom onboard Haven. The pair had just finally released the sexual tension they had shared since their first meeting. It had been awesome for both parties.

"What are you doing later today?" Harry asked.

Kara laughed and said, "All I have planned is a poker game in the mess at 1300. But then I guess later…you."

"That works," Harry agreed amusedly.

Harry was enjoying his new celebrity status. After the capture of the tylium refinery President Roslin and Commander Adama had tried to keep Harry's involvement a secret. But that hadn't worked out so well. Word had quickly spread through the fleet of Harry's inventiveness and prowess in battle. At least his personal shielding techniques had been kept quiet so the cylons wouldn't hear of it. The following week had seen an election for vice president which Dr. Baltar had won. There had been much talk of nominating Harry. Thankfully he avoided that fate. While Harry may have been enjoying the perks of being a colonial fleet celebrity he wasn't prepared to be responsible for so many people.

Kara basked in the heat of the warm water as she slowly scrubbed her hair with the shampoo in Harry's bathroom. He had told her to take as long as she wanted and to use anything she wanted. Harry always seemed to be able to replace anything used. Kara assumed it was just his resourcefulness and ability to invent things. It had been a long time since she had been able to truly enjoy a shower like this. She would be tempted to shack up with him on his ship if she wasn't stationed on Galactica. Of course Haven wasn't exactly a shack by any means. The luxurious yacht was the perfect place to weather the apocalyptic scenario the colonial fleet was facing.

Harry did up the last of the buttons on Kara's uniform top as she looked at him with a satisfied expression. His hands slid to her hips.

"I'll see you tonight?" Harry said.

"Definitely," Kara answered as her arms went around his neck so she could pull him into a heated kiss.

As their tongues dueled Harry's hands went to Kara's butt and squeezed. When they parted and she turned to head to her viper there was definitely a sway in her hips.

Galactica Flight Bay

"Are you going hunting or something?" Lee asked as he came upon Kara loading a string of viper rounds into the cylon raider.

"I want to prep this for the jump test tomorrow to see if our boy here can shoot any of our ammo," Kara said. "Harry thinks it will."

"What happened to it being a girl?" Lee questioned.

"I changed my mind," Kara replied.

"Harry seems to know a lot…or at least you think so," Lee said. "How is our hero by the way?"

"Do you want something from me Lee?" Kara asked as she continued to go about her work of prepping the raider.

"Not a thing," Lee replied.

"I don't owe you anything," Kara said.

"No…you don't owe me anything. Because I'm just a CAG and you're just a pilot," Lee rebutted.

"Right," Kara said.

"A pilot who can't keep her pants on," Lee said heatedly.

"Right," Kara said in a distinctly different tone.

"It is just like old times Kara. Like when you got drunk and couldn't keep your hands off the major from," Lee began before Kara's punch hit him in the jaw.

Lee responded with a punch of his own that slammed Kara back against a tool chest. Kara collected herself and started walking away.

"Why did you do it Kara? Just tell me why," Kara said in a pained tone.

"Because I'm a screw-up, Lee," Kara answered. "Try to keep that in mind."

Harry watched this incident take place on his spy sensors. It was obvious there was history between Kara and Lee Adama. Harry knew that Kara had been engaged to Lee's brother. But Harry thought there was more between Kara and Lee. It was probably unresolved sexual tension. It was obvious that Lee was jealous of Harry or any man that got with Kara. Harry didn't take it personally. But it was obvious Kara had some unresolved issues with the way she just took Lee's verbal degrading and seemed to shrink in on herself a bit. But everyone had issues. Hopefully someday he would be able to get to the bottom of it. But he wasn't going to push her.

Reports were coming in that a raptor had located a habitable world. This world had some ruins on it dating back around 2,000 years. Harry was quite intrigued. During the initial discussion over the ruins which involved President Roslin, her assistant Billy Keikeya, and a priestess Elosha Gale, Roslin experienced visions. Roslin was taking Chamalla extract to treat her cancer. Chamalla extract was a potent alternative medicine but was also a known hallucinogenic.

Elosha had become convinced that Roslin would lead the fleet to Earth based off of sacred scrolls. Indeed, the visions Roslin experienced during this discussion over the ruins suggested that the planet located was Kobol. Kobol was said to be the lost birthplace of man where the gods and men lived in harmony until the exodus of the 13 colonies. If Harry understood his ancient colonial history/mythology correctly Earth was supposed to be the thirteenth colony which like Kobol had become more legend than history.

Crew Quarters…

"Hello Lieutenant," Harry greeted Sharon.

"Hi Harry. What is going on?" Sharon asked while acting like she was cleaning her gun and hadn't just had it in her mouth prepared to blow her brains out.

"I think that is a better question for me to ask you," Harry said.

"I'm just cleaning my gun," Sharon said.

"I was just looking for Kara," Harry said. "Do you want to talk about it?"

"Sometimes I have these dark thoughts," Sharon admitted after a few moments to contemplate her response. Sharon didn't really care any longer. She had been about to end it all. "I'm afraid I am going to hurt someone."

Harry thought about how to handle this situation. He had learned a charm to deal with suicidal people which calmed them and tried to restore a measure of positive feelings. Harry twisted his magic into the correct form and reached out to take Sharon's hand. The magic coursed into her body. Sharon visibly relaxed.

"Sometimes things seem really bad. But I know that things will look up. Take a nap and sleep on it," Harry suggested. As he spoke Harry twisted the magic further and a sleeping charm took her. Harry laid Sharon back and covered her up. Then he cast another charm on her weapon. The charm made it so someone couldn't harm themselves with their own weapon. Another charm would alert him if the first charm was needed. "Hopefully that will help."

Kobol

Shelly watched in shock as the shield around Gaius dissipated. There was no mistaking what that shield had been. The most arcane energy of the universe had been used in a way she hadn't seen before. Given her age that was saying something.

"What happened?" Gaius asked as he shook his head and tried to orient himself.

"Your raptor crashed. You were protected by an energy shield," Shelly answered.

Gaius had been thrown free of the craft which was burning and smoking. Next to Gaius the other passengers of the raptor were in various stages of bewilderment.

Gaius asked, "Where did those shields come from?"

"It must be Harry Potter's work. We heard he installed those things in vipers. We didn't know he installed them in raptors too," Chief Tyrol said as he examined the raptor.

"Everybody get back from that thing. It might blow," Crashdown instructed.

The group began backing away.

"That basestar came out of nowhere," Specialist Stephen Spender who had been piloting the raptor called. "That shield deployed around me faster than anyone else's. Did anybody see why?"

"A raider round went through the back of your seat," Crashdown answered. "The shield came up fast enough to stop the round."

"I didn't know they could do that," Tyrol admitted.

In truth it was a combination of the raptor's hull and seat slowing the round. The shield wouldn't have been able to take much more punishment before it would have failed.

"If I was a chick that guy would totally be getting laid when I got back to Galactica," Spender said.

Any response that could have been given was cut off as the raptor exploded. Everyone ducked to avoid shrapnel.

Galactica

Kara stood in the room the president conducted business out of when onboard Galactica having just listened to the president's scheme.

"You've gotta be kidding," Kara said.

"Do you believe in the gods Lieutenant?" Laura asked.

"Not that it is any of your business but yes I do Ma'am," Kara answered.

"All of this has happened before and all of this will happen again. The cylon you interrogated quoted that bit of scripture. If you believe in the gods then you also believe in the cycle of time," Laura said.

"That's the way I was raised," Kara admitted. "But that doesn't mean my part in the story is to go off on some crazy assed mission against orders."

"May I tell you the part of the story that it would seem I am playing," Laura said slowly. "I am dying."

"What?" Kara said.

"I have terminal breast cancer with six months at the outside to live. I've only told three people so I would appreciate it if you kept it to yourself," Laura said. "Scriptures tell us a dying leader led humanity to the promised land. If you go back to Caprica and bring me the arrow I will show us the way," Laura promised.

"This is crazy," Kara said.

"People keep using that word. But your friend Harry has some pretty unique abilities that people might call crazy if they didn't know better," Laura pointed out. "And it doesn't mean this situation isn't true. This may be our only chance to find Earth."

"The old man is going to lead us to Earth," Kara replied hotly.

"Commander Adama has no idea where Earth is. He made that lie up to give people hope," Laura admitted. "Ask him yourself."

"I will," Kara said before she left.

Haven

"He lied to me," Kara said. Kara had just come from confirming what Roslin had said about Commander Adama in a round-about way. "I can't believe he lied to me."

"He lied to everyone," Harry pointed out.

"I know…but I actually believed him," Kara lamented.

"It stings. I know. What do you plan to do?" Harry asked.

"I'll carry out the mission the president wants," Kara told her boyfriend.

"How about you do both," Harry suggested.

"What did you have in mind?" Kara questioned.

Harry told her.

Cylon Raider Remote Systems Test

"Patch me through to Galactica Actual," Kara requested.

"This is Galactica Actual. Go ahead," William told Kara.

"I believed you Sir. You lied to me and I believed you about Earth," Kara told her C.O.

"Starbuck, whatever you thinking don't be rash. I have no regrets about what I did. Make sure you don't whatever you decide," William cautioned.

"Don't worry Sir. The basestar will still be taken out. But President Roslin's mission will also be carried out," Kara said. "I'll see you when I see you."

With that the cylon raider jumped out on autopilot before Haven cloaked and jumped out as well.

Kobol Solar System

A lone cylon raider jumped into the system and made a beeline for the basestar in orbit. The raider moved quickly and the control systems onboard the basestar registered it as a raider that had vanished on a mission some time ago. Despite this lengthy period of no contact the basestar systems detected nothing out of order being reported from the raider's systems or surface scans. The moment the raider entered the docking bay within the basestar a massive nuclear explosion went off. The basestar cracked apart and shattered.

"Sir, raptor five reports that the basestar has been destroyed," Lieutenant Gaeta reported.

Commander Adama looked up from where he had been coordinating the arrest of President Roslin for her role in getting Starbuck to defy his orders. The atmosphere was tense in the command center as everyone awaited his response.

"Send raptors 5 and 6 to search for survivors of the crash," William ordered. "The mission to arrest the president still stands. She countermanded my orders on a military matter," William said. "Without consulting me first," He mentally added to himself.

"Besides…I imagine the only reason the raider succeeded remotely like that was because of Harry and had nothing to do with the president," Tigh suggested.

"There is no doubt in my mind," William said. "If she could convince Starbuck to defy my orders then she could convince almost anyone."

In truth William was ignoring the fact that he had lied to Kara about knowing the location of Earth. She had as much told him that. He chose to set that information aside for later.

Onboard Raptor 5

"Your new orders are to head to Kobol and look for survivors of the earlier raptor crashes," Dualla relayed.

"Acknowledged," Sharon said. "Athena out."

Sharon thought about the change in mission so quickly. She had been on her way to deliver a nuke to the basestar in a high risk mission because the old man hadn't trusted that the job would get done once Starbuck had gone AWOL. Now that risky situation was able to be avoided thanks likely due to Harry's intervention. It was thanks to Harry that she hadn't killed herself. The man's presence had a calming effect on Sharon. But already she could feel whatever effect he had on her slowly fading. She hoped he returned from Caprica soon so she could restore that feeling. Instead she focused on her mission and looking for survivors.

Caprica System

"The fracking toasters need to pay for this," Kara declared as she saw the devastation wrought upon the surface of Kobol.

Haven was flying to Kobol under the concealment of its cloak after having jumped in out of system. The cylons would have detected a jump in no matter what if the arrival had been in-system.

"The universe has a way of repaying these types of things," Harry said as he came up beside Kara and stood next to where she was sitting.

Haven was running on autopilot. Kara hugged Harry by putting an arm around his waist and took comfort in his presence.

"I love this cloaking technology," Kara said as Haven flew right past the half dozen basestars in orbit and hundreds of cylon raiders.

When Haven flew down into the planet's atmosphere the capitol city came into view. Damage to the buildings was visible from the fighting that had gone on. Haven approached Delphi Museum of the Colonial Arts & History. When the museum came in sight Harry took manual control and set the ship down.

"It looks like there was fighting here too," Harry said as he noted the rubble outside. "Let's hope what we came for wasn't damaged."

"Let's hope not," Kara agreed. Kara led the way having been to the museum before. Both had their guns drawn. "These suits are so much better than an anti-radiation injection," Kara whispered as they moved through the museum.

Kara was referring to a suit she and Harry were both wearing which he had "invented." In truth the suits were runically enchanted to block the radiation. Harry wanted no chance of Kara's ability to have children becoming compromised. He wasn't planning any children with anyone in the immediate future but he didn't want that option taken away.

"Definitely," Harry agreed. "And it looks good on you," Harry added.

Kara looked back at Harry and found him glancing at her butt. She grinned when his eyes met hers.

"What doesn't look good on me," Kara said teasingly.

"Good point," Harry mused.

The two wound their way through the museum which was large.

"I don't remember exactly where the arrow was but I think it was this way," Kara said while she pointed towards one wing of the museum. "Wow," Kara said as she stared down through a large gaping hole in the floor. "It looks like the fighting got pretty intense here."

The floor crumbled on the edge of the hole and Harry pulled Kara back so she didn't fall through.

"Careful," Harry warned as Kara held tightly to him.

"That was close," Kara said. "Look…there is a map."

Kara and Harry approached a map on the wall which had a big burn mark next to it. Luckily the map itself hadn't been damaged.

"It looks like the exhibit has been moved slightly. It's on the border of the next wing adjacent to the wing I thought it was in," Kara noted. Harry followed Kara keeping a close eye on their surroundings. It didn't take them long to realize they had to go up a level. There was only one problem. "How do we get around that?" Kara asked as she saw the ruins of the stairs leading up to the next level. "This is the only entrance up to that second floor wing."

Kara looked back at Harry questioningly. Harry looked back at her thoughtfully.

"Can I trust you to not reveal something to your superiors if I show you?" Harry asked.

Kara thought about that. She hadn't known him long but already Kara was very fond of Harry.

"As long as what you show me isn't harmful to the survival of humanity I won't tell," Kara said.

Harry nodded at that and said, "Fair enough."

Harry raised his right hand and gestured at Kara. Harry had cast a sound dampening charm around them and then caused Kara to float into the air. Kara let out a squeak of surprise as she floated up to the next level.

"How are you doing this?" Kara demanded quite loudly before realizing where they were and keeping her voice down. By this point she had reached the next landing and watched as Harry came floating up after her. "Are you a Lord of Kobol?"

The reverence in Kara's tone was plain.

"No," Harry said. "I've just got some extra abilities that most humans don't…especially where you are from."

"And where are you from?" Kara demanded as she began walking again.

"Very far away," Harry replied.

Kara was about to berate him for being so fracking cryptic when she heard an alarming sound.

The sound of a glass display case shattering could be heard. Harry took off running with Kara right behind him. The pair rounded the corner and saw a Shelly Godfrey model cylon holding a golden arrow. The cylon turned at the sound of their approach.

"That arrow belongs to us," Kara said while raising her gun to point at the cylon's head.

"You wouldn't want me to break it would you," Six said as she clutched the arrow in both hands prepared to snap it in half.

"What do they call your model?" Harry asked curiously.

Six looked at Harry intrigued. That was not something she expected to be asked in this situation.

"Six," Six admitted.

"Six…that isn't a very human name. Given all the trouble they went to in order to make you so…life-like…you think the Centurions would have been more creative," Harry surmised.

Six felt his gaze sweep over her as he said life-like.

"Centurions aren't a very imaginative sort," Six admitted. "They basically just copied the human form exactly and numbered us based on the order they created us in."

"Physically they got it right on the sixth try," Harry said in an admiring tone. Six actually smiled at this. "Mentally you're a bit off," Harry said which caused the smile to vanish. "But aren't we all."

The arrow flew out of Six's grasp into Harry's hand. As Six starred in shock Harry hit her with twin killing curses which flew from his eyes.

"What the frack," Kara called in shock.

Kara watched Six fall inert to the ground. Kara wasn't sure what Harry had just done to the cylon but for good measure she walked up and put a round in Six's forehead. Kara was getting ready to question her lover further about his abilities when she heard the sound of shifting rubble off to her side. Kara turned quickly with her gun raised.

"Starbuck," Helo called as he walked in with a Sharon model Eight walking behind him.

The model Eight had a sling around her arm and looked wounded near the shoulder but it was clearly another cylon. Kara knew this because Sharon was back on Galactica. Kara didn't lower her weapon because for all she knew Helo was another cylon as well. Kara felt like she wanted to be sick at the revelation that Sharon was a toaster. But Kara managed to steel her stomach.

Lieutenant Karl 'Helo' Agathon for his part was trying to take in the situation. A large yacht had touched down in front of the museum not long ago. The sounds of a fight had drawn his attention to this room. Now he found an old friend in Starbuck present with some unknown man and a destroyed human model toaster.

"Hello, I'm Harry. Are you an old friend of Kara's?" Harry asked as he shifted the Arrow of Apollo to his left hand and waved with his right hand.

Harry's tone was somewhat friendly but there seemed to be a hint of danger to it. Harry was far too casual in his stance for the situation. Helo and Eight thought Harry was either a fool or far more confident than he appeared at first glance.

"What is she doing with you Helo? She's a cylon," Kara said in a deadly serious tone.

"I know," Helo admitted. "She…she is pregnant."

"How do you know that?" Harry asked.

"She…she told me she is," Helo replied while realizing how flimsy that sounded.

"Helo, you'll have to excuse us for a minute," Kara said as she slowly backed towards Harry.

Kara had lowered her gun but not completely put it away. She backed up to Harry and threw a look over her shoulder hoping he understood she wanted to talk to him in private. He did. She saw him draw out one of those devices which negated a cylon's enhanced senses.

"You can speak freely now," Harry prompted.

Kara and Harry had stepped out of view of Helo and Sharon.

"I just realized…how do we know Helo isn't a cylon too?" Kara asked.

"I can tell that he isn't," Harry admitted.

"What are you? How can you tell?" Kara questioned.

"Where I come from my people call themselves wizards and witches," Harry admitted. "That's all I plan to say for the time being about what I am. I can tell because I have a method to detect the health of a human. I can detect Helo's health but not that Sharon's."

His response raised all kinds of new questions for Kara. Was he saying he could do magic?! Of course what the Lords of Kobol had been able to do if everything Kara had been taught was true could be considered magic. Kara put those thoughts aside and focused on the task at hand.

"I don't think we should show Sharon the inside of your ship," Kara urged. "That ship is a big advantage. We can transport her back to the fleet a different way. Can you remote pilot your ship away?"

"Yes," Harry confirmed.

Kara nodded and then went back to talk some more with her old friend.

Galactica Command Center

"Well this is awkward," Grace said as she stopped her body from pulling the trigger and putting a round into Commander William 'Bill' Adama's chest from her sidearm.

Grace quickly went through her counterpart's memories and realized Boomer had been reporting to Bill on the status of the search mission on Kobol.

"What the hell are you doing Lieutenant," Bill demanded as several marines raised their weapons at Lt. Valerii.

Bill had moved out of the line of fire for Sharon but she had seemingly frozen. Sharon opened her hand and dropped the gun with a pained expression.

"Sir…it appears I am a cylon," Sharon admitted. "I didn't know. I'm fighting my hidden program."

Bill gestured at the marines and ordered, "Take her into custody. Put her in the brig."

Bill was deeply shaken. Bill had known Sharon Valerii for years. The entire command center had gone quiet at the scene that had played out. A few minutes later Colonel Tigh came running in.

"I just heard Bill," Tigh said. "If she can be one…then anyone can be one."

"I know. It's more important than ever that we get Doctor Baltar back. He needs to step up with his cylon testing," Bill said. "Lt. Gaeta, get Racetrack in here. From now on I want armed marines posted at the entrances to this room. Nobody gets in here with a sidearm except me."

Bill put the gun he had retrieved from Sharon in a hip holster and put it on.

Two Hours Later

"Sir, we have a single contact on the dradis," Lt. Gaeta called out. "It's a cylon basestar."

Bill had looked up at Gaeta's call from where he and his advisors had been discussing how best to determine if cylons were in key positions. Baltar had done a small scale screening but that apparently hadn't been enough.

"D, alert the fleet we are going to execute an emergency jump," Bill ordered.

Lt. Gaeta also jumped into action hearing that.

"Sir, we still have survey teams on the surface of Kobol," Gaeta said.

"They will fall back on their training and survive," Bill said.

"FTL," Gaeta prompted.

"Go," Seelix reported.

"Nav Con," Gaeta prompted.

"Go," Tarn reported.

"Galactica to all vessels. Prepare to make immediate FTL jump to escape coordinates Alpha," Dualla said over the coms. "I say again, Alpha. Clock will start on my mark. Mark." There were several moments of tense silence as the fleet began jumping away. "Attention Galactica, fleet is away. Standby to jump in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…jump."

When the jump occurred Gaeta announced, "Jump completed."

"Report," Bill ordered. Gaeta did not immediately respond. Bill looked at Gaeta intently. "What is it Lieutenant?"

"The dradis is empty with no contacts," Gaeta replied with an alarmed tone.

Bill looked up at the screen in surprise which showed no contacts.

"Theories Lt.," Bill prompted.

"Let me check some things Sir," Gaeta requested as he began checking over his jump calculations first thing.

Bill nodded and waited patiently. Bill had learned through years of command experience that breathing down the nervous Gaeta's neck wouldn't have any positive impact on Gaeta's performance. Instead Bill walked over to Dualla.

"Keep listening for fleet signals in case there is something we are missing. The dradis could be malfunctioning," Bill pointed out. "Are you sure all of the fleet ships jumped away before we did?"

"I believe so Sir," Dualla replied.

"Well at least they aren't back there with the cylons," Bill said.

"No Sir," Dualla agreed.

Bill began to speculate on some type of new weapon that the cylons came up with which could throw off FTL drives when Gaeta nervously approached him.

"What is it son?" Bill asked calmly.

"Sir, I think in my haste to plot the jump vectors for our jump I messed up," Gaeta admitted. "I was so intent on making sure the rest of the fleet had their calculations right."

Bill knew jump vectors were unique to each ship depending upon the mass, the internal geometry of the ship, the FTL drive power, and the specific starting point of the ship. Even the difference in location within a group like the colonial fleet would alter the equations.

"We'll have to do something about getting you some assistance Lieutenant. You're tired and were overburdened," Bill said. "It isn't your fault. Start coming up with ideas on how to find the fleet. Get some help from whoever you think can help you."

"Yes Sir," Gaeta answered while internally relieved he wasn't being blamed.

Bill returned to his planning for the security screenings.

OP – BSG – OP – BSG – OP – BSG – OP – BSG – OP – BSG – OP – BSG – OP – BSG – OP

"So we have to jump back to the scene of our last battle where the cylon basestar is probably sitting waiting," Bill summarized after hearing what Gaeta had said.

Galactica's nav computers could use the star positions in the last location to compute the most likely coordinates the civilian fleet had jumped to.

"Yes sir," Gaeta responded.

"Do you know how long the calculations will take once we return to the battle site?" Bill asked.

"If we shut down all other functions it would take about twelve hours. Galactica's computers are non-networked and have very little process power individually," Gaeta answered.

"That isn't happening. We can't hold off a cylon basestar for twelve hours," Tigh commented.

Caprica

Caprica-Sharon warned, "We need to get moving. Her consciousness is being downloaded into another body as we speak and she will tell them where we are."

Caprica-Sharon was talking about the dead Six model on the floor.

"I am reasonably certain her consciousness isn't. This device negates many cylon abilities in a certain region of spacetime including consciousness transferral," Harry said as he held up the dampening device.

Harry was partly lying. The twin killing curses were probably what sent the Six's soul on instead of the device. Caprica-Sharon looked very alarmed at the device Harry was holding.

"Where did you get that from?" Helo asked with a confused look on his features.

"Its origin is a classified military secret that won't be given to a cylon," Kara interjected before Harry could reply. "Helo…you were never very bright…especially when it comes to women. But I didn't think even you could be this dumb. I understand you couldn't guard her all the time by yourself. And they have enough strength to break even steel restraints. I've observed it firsthand. But now that we are here we could guard her in shifts."

Helo appeared to be thinking this over. Caprica-Sharon had been backing towards the door during the conversation and hadn't been that far from it to begin with. When several seconds had passed without a response from Helo, Caprica-Sharon took off out the door.

"Sharon," Helo said as he spun to find Caprica-Sharon gone.

"She's gone, Helo. Let her go. But we need to move out," Kara said.

"Come on," Harry said as he started walking. "I've studied the maps of this area. If there are any survivors I bet they would head in this direction."

"What about the ship you came in?" Helo asked.

"That isn't an option," Kara said in a tone that begged no further questions. "For now," Kara thought to herself. "My old apartment is in this direction. We can stop by there."

Helo looked worriedly in the direction Sharon had gone. He didn't like this at all but Kara was a good friend. Helo didn't think to question if Kara and Harry could be cylons. Harry and Kara both took note of this fact.

"No wonder the cylons were willing to let him live. He was basically a fertilizer for Caprica-Sharon's egg," Harry thought to himself. "These cylons are very human-like in their base physiology if a human male can impregnate one. Very interesting," Harry thought to himself.

CIC

"I don't like it," Tigh said.

"Nobody likes it…but it's a workable plan," Bill said.

"Bill…she almost shot you," Tigh pointed out.

Bill gave Tigh a deadpan look and said, "I am aware of that Saul. But I talked to her. She's going to be under constant watch and Gaeta will be keeping an eye on her. The bottom line is she can help us. If she screws us we can just jump out again."

Bill and Saul watched as Galactica-Sharon was escorted into the CIC with an armed guard on her. Bill recalled their recent conversation.

Flashback

Bill walked into the brig where Sharon was sitting and faced her. He didn't say anything for a long half-minute. Grace waited for Bill Adama to speak. He didn't know that she wasn't a cylon controlled by her programming.

"How did you overcome your programming?" Bill asked.

Bill still wasn't completely sure this wasn't just a ploy to gain his greater trust.

"I think the programming which was driving me to commit acts of war against Galactica relied upon me being unaware of it. I've slowly become unaware over time," Grace admitted. "I was able to fight it with willpower once I realized what it was driving me to do. I'm only sorry I couldn't stop it sooner."

"Why betray your people? You are a cylon," Bill said.

"I may physiologically be a cylon. But all of my memories are of the friendships I have formed here. I have memories of being raised human. I think I'm the oldest living version of my model," Grace explained.

"But you can't be sure of that," Bill pointed out.

"That is true. But until I see hard evidence otherwise it is what I believe," Grace said. "You have a problem. We jumped away from the fleet. I can help."

Bill made a mental note to caution Galactica's personnel on talking near the brig about the ship's status.

"How so?" Bill asked.

"I can help speed up the calculations. Gaeta is probably suggesting networking the computers and putting up a firewall," Grace said.

Bill thought Sharon was predicting things too accurately for his comfort.

"It will go a lot more smoothly with my help and I can make sure the calculations happen faster," Grace explained.

"What do you want in return?" Bill asked.

"Not to be put out the airlock for one. And a chance to eventually start earning your trust back," Grace said.

End Flashback

In truth it had taken little more to convince Bill to give Sharon the chance. She had been one of his best pilots. He watched as she worked with Gaeta for half an hour to improve Gaeta's firewall.

"I think we're ready to go Sir," Gaeta announced as he approached Bill.

"Prepare to jump then," Bill instructed. Gaeta got Galactica's crew ready. When Gaeta signaled readiness Bill commanded, "Go."

Galactica jumped away back to its last jump coordinates. Immediately Gaeta and Sharon sprung into action. Bill watched as Sharon did something manually on the computer keyboard typing in inputs at rapid speed to increase the speed of the calculation. She claimed her cylon brain could process components of the calculation much faster than Galactica's networked computer system.

Bill listened and watched as the vipers were launched and then shortly after engaged with the raiders sent by the basestar.

"The calculations are twenty-three percent complete," Gaeta announced three minutes into the engagement. "Sir…we have an incoming nuke from the basestar."

"Brace for impact, everyone," Bill called.

Moments later Galactica shuddered as a nuclear weapon detonated against the hull. The ship rocked and tossed the occupants about a bit. Warning alarms blared.

"Galactica this is Apollo. You have an incoming cylon heavy raider," Lee reported. "We are trying to intercept but it used the nuclear detonation to mask its approach and we are having trouble keeping up."

The strain could be discerned in Lee's tone as he worked his viper hard to pursue the raider.

"Calculations at 47 percent," Gaeta said.

Then the Raider hit and the ship shuddered again.

"Damage report," Bill barked.

"The Raider crashed into the port landing pod. There was no air breach," Dualla reported since Gaeta was busy.

"The cylons are through the first firewall," Gaeta said.

"I'm working on it," Grace said as she rapidly typed.

"Sir, the calculations are at 95%," Gaeta said surprised after he noticed a drastic increase in the portion of the calculations that were done.

"Call the vipers back and get ready to jump," Grace said as sweat beaded on her brow.

"Do it," Bill ordered.

The vipers were ordered back to Galactica and quickly raced towards the bay.

"99%," Gaeta called.

"Jump as soon as the pilots are in," Bill ordered.

"We're all in," Lee called over the coms.

"Jumping," Gaeta announced.

Galactica made the transit through the jump. The bridge crew was silent as they all stared at the dradis screen. Tiny dots in the form of dradis signatures started showing up on the screen. A cheer went up among the crew.

"It's the fleet Sir," Dualla confirmed as she listened to the relieved chatter from the fleet officers.

Bill looked at Grace and said, "Thank you. We'll talk later about the possibility of putting you in guarded quarters instead of a cell. For now please return to your cell."

Grace nodded to signal her agreement. It mattered little to her. She could be as comfortable as she wanted without anyone from the colonial fleet noticing thanks to her powers. Bill turned back to the dradis screen thoughtfully as he felt a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach. It took him a moment to narrow down the source of the feeling. He approached the console which reported damage on the ship.

"What is it Sir?" Gaeta asked.

"This is where the heavy raider landed?" Bill clarified while pointing to the section of the ship Gaeta had verbally indicated.

"Yes Sir," Gaeta answered.

"Just to be on the safe side I want all personnel cleared out of this section of the ship. I don't believe for a second that a heavy raider would just crash to do so little damage," Bill said.

"Commander Adama Sir," Grace called from entrance to the CIC.

"She wanted to speak to you Sir," Cpl. Heines said from Sharon's escort detail.

"What is it?" Bill asked.

"I heard what you were just telling Gaeta. If it is a boarding party you will need incendiary rounds to punch through their armor. Normal rounds won't cut it," Grace warned.

"Thank you," Bill said. Grace nodded and turned around to head towards the brig. Bill turned back to Gaeta and said, "Get those people evacuated. Saul, get the marines loaded up with incendiary rounds and heading towards that section of the ship."

Nine Weeks 2 Days and 3 Hours After Joining the Fleet

"Hold up," Harry called as he walked alongside Kara and Helo.

"What is it?" Kara asked. "A cylon?" She probed while looking around alertly.

"No…it's Galactica," Harry said. "Centurions have boarded her."

"How can you know that?" Helo demanded.

"Can you do anything?" Kara asked, not knowing her lover's full capabilities.

"Yes," Harry answered with a far off look.

"Then do it…I've got this," Kara said.

The group had been walking by an office building. Harry entered the ground floor of the building and quickly found a chair at a desk. He produced a silver ring about 3 inches in diameter from his pocket. The ring had intricate etching on it. As Helo and Kara looked on Harry ran his finger along the ring's surface over a sequence of the etchings. The ring lifted into the air floating directly in front of Harry's face. He closed his eyes just as the ring lit up with a tiny glowing surface that looked a lot like a ship looked right when it made an FTL jump. From the perimeter of the side of the ring facing Harry a light blue glow connected between the ring and Harry's forehead.

"What is he doing?" Helo asked.

"I told you…he's an inventor," Kara said. "He has technology we couldn't dream of. He's helping Galactica in some way. Don't breathe a word of this to anyone or I swear…you'll regret it. You got me, Helo?"

"I got you Kara," Helo said.

"I'm serious," Kara replied while looking intently at her old friend.

"I know," Helo answered. Knowing what else she was getting at he reassured, "I won't tell Sharon if she ever comes back."

Kara nodded and turned to watch her boyfriend. Meanwhile Harry's mind was far-far away.

Galactica

Harry was slightly disoriented as he found his mind in one of Galactica's dark corridors. He had only just finished the FTL Portal Projector (FPP) two days previously and hadn't had much of a chance to check it out. The small device utilized miniaturized FTL drive principles to project Harry's mind and power over a distance of light-years. But the power required from Harry was immense. Until he built up some stamina using the FPP he would be left feeling between tired and exhausted afterwards depending on how long he used it and what he used it for. Harry followed the sound of screaming.

Harry willed an illusion into place of a humanoid form wearing a dark cloak completely concealing his face with the only aspect visible through the shadow being glowing green eyes. He ran past the viper pilots being led by Lee Adama. One of Apollo's pilots, Flyboy A.K.A. Michael Tayles had just received a fatal chest slash from the centurion the group had encountered. Harry's calm stride in the opposite direction of the flight from danger saw Lee pull up short. Lee turned and watched as the cloaked figure calmly walked up to the centurion. When the centurion meant to claw through the cloaked figure's throat Lee was surprised to see the cloaked figure casually catch the centurion's slash with a forearm upper block before thrusting forward with a right hand palm strike that seemed to convey some type of energy blast.

The energy blast was so violent that the trunk of the centurion's body was ripped to shreds with the sound of tearing meddle. Then the hooded figure was kneeling over Flyboy's convulsing form. Lee turned back to go to the aid of his fallen pilot when he witnessed a miracle. The hooded figure had stretched out that same hand which had been used to destroy the centurion and channeled a pale pink energy field into Flyboy's ruined chest. Before Lee's amazed eyes Flyboy's wounds began to heal swiftly. Within ten seconds Flyboy was whole again. Then the hooded figure stood up and fixed Lee with a gaze that Lee somehow felt pierced into his very soul. Lee felt as if he was standing in the presence of one of the Lords of Kobol. Given the power this being had just displayed Lee wouldn't be surprised to learn that this was a Lord of Kobol.

"Who are you?" Lee found himself asking.

The hooded figure didn't say anything but Lee felt a shift in the air that seemed to indicate Lee should very well know who this being was. And then just like that the hooded figure was gone.

"Was that a Lord of Kobol, Sir?" Kat asked as she stepped up to Lee's side.

Hot Dog was helping Flyboy up.

"I don't know Kat. I feel like it may have been," Lee said.

Galactica CIC

"Sir," Gaeta said with a tone of confusion.

Bill waited for Gaeta to say something further after having called his attention but the Lieutenant appeared speechless.

"What is it Lieutenant? Have the marines engaged the cylons?" Bill asked.

"Yes Sir," Gaeta answered. "Sir, despite the use of explosive rounds a couple of marines have gone down to surprise attacks from the centurions. And there were more of them than we anticipated so we ran out of rounds."

"So there are casualties," Tigh surmised. "What has you so fracking startled? How many did we lose?"

"There were casualties Sirs. But not any longer. Reports saying that a man wearing a hood concealing his features came in and used some type of…some type of power to destroy the centurions and to bring the dead back to life," Gaeta explained.

Bill and Tigh exchanged bewildered looks.

"I don't know how to respond to that," Bill admitted. "Keep having them mop up the centurions. I'll get a report out of them in calmer situations. What about non-critical injuries?"

"We have those," Gaeta said. "This figure…the marines are calling a Lord of Kobol…only healed critical injuries."

"Alright…this Lord aside let's get the non-critical injuries some help. Captain Kelly, keep the marines pushing the cylons back to their point of ingress," Bill ordered.

"Yes Sir," Gaeta and Kelly replied in unison.

Caprica

Harry came back to his body to the sound of a more classical style of music playing and the sound of Kara's voice.

"I never really liked this place anyway," Kara said. "The air conditioner doesn't work in the summer. The heater doesn't work in the winter. The rent's a crime." Kara lit up a cigar. "After the attack I never pined over any of my old crap."

Harry listened to his girlfriend talk while keeping his eyes closed. He found her voice soothing and he was trying to recover his strength. To project his abilities through the FPP was extremely inefficient. The power lost to make his spells effective was immense but was really the best option given the distance.

"I never missed it," Kara continued. "The stupid view of the parking lot. A broken toilet in the bathroom," She said introspectively. "You know…everyone I know is fighting to get back what they had. I'm fighting because I don't know how to do anything else," She added. Then her tone changed to something of fondness as she said, "And I'm fighting to keep what I found after the attack. It took the world ending for me to find something else…something good."

Harry could feel Kara's gaze upon him.

"Are you and he serious?" Helo asked.

"It's the end of the world…is anything serious?" Kara returned.

"I don't know…my headache is pretty serious," Harry said with a groan as he opened his eyes.

"Harry," Kara whispered in relief. "Are you ok?"

"I'm ok…just tired," Harry said.

"Using the FPP takes a lot out of me," Harry said.

The silver ring still floated in front of Harry but the glow was less bright.

"Is that what you call that ring thing?" Helo asked.

"Yes," Harry said. "FTL Portal Projector is what FPP stands for. It allows me to project myself over light-years…or at least parts of me."

In truth Harry had only needed to generate an illusion for the most part with the occasional telekinetic push needed when he needed to interact with regular matter. Shelly had given him the idea. The energy being seemed to do the same thing most often.

"Kara said you have some skills that would make you useful in a fight," Helo commented.

"Yes…and they needed it on Galactica. Centurions are trying to reach stations which will allow them to vent Galactica to space," Harry explained.

"Gods…how close are they to succeeding?" Kara asked.

"We pushed the centurions back before I had to take a break. I'll go back in a bit. I'm keeping an eye on things. From what I can tell Galactica-Sharon gave Commander Adama vital information on how to combat the centurions. They probably would have survived without me there thanks to that information and Adama's natural wariness. But they would have had many more casualties," Harry explained.

"Galactica-Sharon?" Helo said questioningly.

Harry looked to Helo and explained, "She is the original Sharon you knew who is still on Galactica. I figured we needed a way to tell them apart. I'm thinking of the version here as Caprica-Sharon."

"Makes sense," Kara mused. "Now no more questions," She directed at Helo. "Let's rest. You need it especially Harry."

Harry set an alarm charm to wake him in twenty minutes as he felt Kara snuggle up to his side. With the way the battle was going on Galactica he didn't think there would be any critical action in the next twenty minutes. There were few centurions left and the marines had the remaining few held at bay in non-critical sections of the ship using the explosive ammunition. Harry cast a mild sleeping spell on himself which the alarm charm could override. He immediately fell asleep.

Kobol

Harry materialized near the raptor crash site on Kobol where he had last encountered the survivors. He looked around and found the corpse of a recently killed person whom Harry believed was named Tarn. Harry could sense the time of death when he focused on this information. It was one of those powers Harry must have picked up as Master of Death. It hadn't taken Harry too many weeks to realize that his freaky powers like the killing curse eyes were a result of absorbing the Deathly Hallows. Harry knelt down next to the corpse and passed his hand over the body while tapping into another Hallow Master ability.

The wounds Tarn had suffered closed up and Tarn began breathing. Harry kept the restored Tarn unconscious and with another application of magic caused Tarn to become invisible and float behind Harry. Harry could restore the recently dead to life. If more than a couple of hours had passed since a person's death Harry felt it was too hard to restore the person. He just had this feeling about that when he had tried. To Harry it was like exercising a new limb he had never known he had possessed.

"Where's Tarn?" Crashdown asked after Tyrol and Cally had made their presence known.

"He didn't make it," Tyrol answered. "Cylons ambushed us."

"Here is the medicine," Cally said as she held out the med kit for Seelix.

Seelix took the med kit and immediately extracted an injection of morpha which she gave Socinus. Harry noted Socinus was in a bad way with grievous wounds and burns. This must have happened in a previous cylon encounter.

"Were you followed?" Crashdown asked.

"No," Tyrol answered numbly. "How is Socinus doing?"

"I…," Seelix began but hesitated. "I don't think he is going to make it. I think the pain is too much and is going to overwhelm him. The morpha didn't seem to have any effect."

"No…that is unacceptable…not after what we just went through. Tarn just died for that medicine," Tyrol whispered harshly.

"I'm sorry Sir. I think he just got the medicine too late," Seelix replied.

At that moment a conscious Tarn appeared in the middle of the group. Crashdown immediately drew back with his gun aimed.

"Woh…calm down," Tyrol urged. "Tarn?"

"Sir…what is going on?" Tarn asked with confusion.

"And what are you holing?" Cally asked while pointing to a frothing glass of liquid in Tarn's hand which seemed to be glowing.

"There is a note," Seelix said. She read, "Drink me Socinus."

"Nobody is drinking anything," Crashdown said without lowering his weapon. "Are you a cylon?" He demanded.

"No I'm not a cylon," Tarn replied. "The last thing I remember was getting shot and then nothing."

"You died," Cally said.

"Cylons don't have transporter technology," Tyrol pointed out while choosing to focus on that fact instead of saying cylons couldn't bring back the dead.

For all they knew this was a cylon copy of Socinus.

"That you know about," Crashdown rebutted.

"Sir, if they had it they could have transported nukes onto our ships at any time in our recent fights," Tyrol said. "Something else is going on here. This might be the only thing that can save Socinus' life," Tyrol said as he reached over and took the potion from Tarn.

"Put down the glass Chief," Crashdown said while switching his aim to Tyrol.

That was when Crashdown fell over unconscious after a slight red shimmer appeared around him.

"He's just unconscious," Seelix said after checking his vitals.

Meanwhile Tyrol was administering the potion to Socinus. It only took several minutes before the injuries were healing before the amazed eyes of the rescue victims.

"What is this?" Gaius said with awe in his tone.

"Something that shouldn't be possible in this civilization," Shelly said almost to herself but so that Gaius could still hear.

Shelly could sense the arcane energy coming from the liquid working Socinus. She knew who was responsible for this. She wasn't sure how but she knew it was Harry Potter. It was then that Shelly made her decision. She was no longer satisfied with her plan to merely co-opt a hybrid child between a cylon and a human produced by a physical cylon. No, she wanted a product of her own kind and whatever Potter was. Such a hybrid would be very valuable to the future and allow her to do things she hadn't dreamt of before with a simple cylon-human hybrid. But she wouldn't completely abandon this plan. She would hedge her bets and go forward with both options.

In order to acquire a cylon form capable of baring a child to term Shelly would have to first cultivate a model Six cylon. Shelly would then have to inhabit this prepared Six which would severely limit her abilities as a semi-corporeal being. It would also come with a major risk. Taking up such a corporeal form would make her vulnerable to permanent harm. But such a potential reward was worth the risk in her opinion. While she was cultivating a physical body Shelly would have to try to coax Harry to be into her.

Caprica

Harry returned to his body exhausted but satisfied with his progress on Galactica. Kara came awake when she felt him move.

"Hey, how did it go on Galactica?" Kara asked.

Helo had come awake too and was paying attention.

"It went well," Harry admitted. "I'm even gladder I intervened because the marines ran out of explosive rounds there at the end. There were only a couple of cylons left but those couple of cylons had started using the tactic of punching holes in the hull and venting sections of the ship to space in order to hamper the pursuit of the marines. The centurions were heading towards aft damage control to try to vent the entire ship."

"Gods…they could have destroyed the fleet with impunity then," Kara said with realization.

"Well they are destroyed now. Did anything else happen while I was gone?" Harry questioned.

"Well we do have some good news," Kara said as she pulled a set of keys from her old jacket pocket. "I have an old surplus military truck in the garage downstairs. We won't have to walk anymore."

"That's great. We had best get headed out," Harry suggested.

"I'm going to take a quick look through neighboring apartments for any food or supplies we might use before we go," Helo said.

"Good idea," Kara replied.

After Helo had left, Harry said, "I know you said earlier that you didn't miss any of your old stuff. But if there was anything here you could take with you would you?"

Kara looked around and thought about it. After half a minute she pointed out quite a few objects to Harry. Harry waved his hand and caused the objects to vanish.

"Where did they go?" Kara asked.

"To a storage room back on my ship," Harry explained.

"Thank you," Kara said as she leaned up and kissed him gratefully. "Now let's go make sure the truck still runs."

Kara took Harry's hand and led him out of the apartment.
