A/N: Hello fanfiction world! I know, I've been missing from a very long time here and I just realized that it has been almost one year since I posted the last chapter of this story and the fact that I left it with a cliffhanger doesn't make it any better! I am very sorry about that, and I hope I can make it up to you with this next update. It has been stored in my old PC for a while and I was hoping it could finally see the light of day. Thank you so much to those of you who have reviewed this story upon the past year, it's very much appreciated that you find this still interesting.

In this new chapter, you'll see the aftermath of what happened at the end of the last chapter and you'll find what probably has been my favorite flashback I've written for this story. I hope this chapter is worth the wait. The tittle of it, is after a line of my favorite Taylor Swift songs "Exile".

Never gave a warning sign

(I gave so many signs)

The road to the hospital wasn't usually that long, Addison would comfortably move between the practice, her house and St. Ambrosse, but that would be only when she was the doctor of the case, when she actually had a decision on how to treat her patients and when she was the one in charge to save their lives. But being on the other side was a completely different experience, since she received that dreadful call from Sam on what it felt hours ago, she had barely said few more words, her argument with Derek wasn't even on her mind anymore. She would only look at him every couple of minutes to make sure he was keeping it together.

"She'll be okay, Derek. We'll make sure of that." Addison reassured her ex-husband while they were getting closer to the hospital, of course she didn't even know what was Amelia's status, Sam didn't have the curtesy to provide more details about her condition, but then again, she wasn't only trying to calm Derek, but also herself, she had seen Amelia at her lowest point back when she was a teenager and it would kill her to see her going through all of that one more time.

"She hasn't been home lately." Addison admitted with her voice starting to break and with her heart beating so hard that it felt like it would leave her chest, her voice caught Derek off-guard, who was also trying to keep it together. "I- I should have paid more attention to that… I… I just… I assumed she was seeing someone and didn't want to share any details, but then, I should have asked or…" Addison would keep trying to rewind her memories to see when did these absences from Amelia started but Derek immediately interrupted her.

"Don't do that, Addie." Derek shook his head while letting his hand rest over Addison's. "You couldn't have predicted that, and this isn't your fault. Amy is a grown woman and… We don't even know if she relapsed." Derek said those words with trouble, as if each one would be heavier than the other one. "This is not your fault. You couldn't have known."

And even though he was trying to be strong in front of Addison, he couldn't help but start to think a very similar thought.

Why the hell didn't I notice that Amy wasn't okay? I'm her big brother and she trusts me. I am the one who should definitely be taken care of her.

"Neither could you, Derek." Addison said softly as if she would know exactly what was going through his mind.

Once they finally arrived to the hospital, both of them started to run to the E.R. trying to desperately find any familiar face who could finally let them know Amelia's status, it wasn't until a couple of minutes until they found Pete, who was luckily the one on-call that night.

"Pete? Tell us how's Amelia, what is her status? How are her vitals? Did you run any tests? Any scans? I want to take a look on her chart. Where is she? Can we just go and see her? We'll be better than any resident or any doctor who is in there with her." Addison started rambling, as if she was the doctor assigned to the case, followed by Derek.

Before Pete could start giving the speech that she wasn't Amelia's doctor, Derek intervened.

"I think what Addison is trying to say is that… How is Amy? And what happened to her? We got a call from Sam saying that she was involved in an accident and now… Just tell us, man."

Pete nodded. "You know you can't see her right now; you are not her doctors. She was in a car accident. We're running scans to see if there's any fracture, but that's not all…" He took a pause to take a deep breath, even though they were all doctors, Addison and Derek were on the family side of his patient. "She had been drinking, and for what was on the report, she fell asleep on the road, which caused the accident."

"Was anyone else involved?" Derek asked almost in a whisper after holding Addison's hand while Pete gave them the explanation they've were looking for.

"You're finally here." Sam announced, coming from the waiting room where he had been since the moment he called Addison to break the news about Amelia.

Neither Derek or Addison acknowledged Sam, as they kept waiting for Pete to let them know more about Amelia's status. "Can we – Can we just see her?" Derek asked but Pete shook his head once again.

"I'm sorry, but all of you need to stay in the waiting room. I'll let you know at the moment we run all the exams and have the results. I promise we're doing everything we can."

"Don't say that, Pete. We are all doctors here; we know that speech. What we need to know is that Amelia will be okay and that she'll be conscious sooner than later." Addison demanded raising her voice at Pete, but being an E.R. doctor, he was familiar with those kind of reactions.

"I'll keep you two updated."

"Hey, Pete?" Derek added, just before Pete would walk out. "Order a CT, just to make sure we're not missing out anything, could you do that, man?"

Pete sighed and nodded in acceptance of Derek's suggestion, he walked out and left Addison, Derek and Sam in the waiting room together.

"Should I call Charlotte? Does she know about this? I'm sure if she was aware of this, she'll have the best physicians working here right now, no matter what." Addison asked Sam while holding Derek's hand, a gesture that despite of the circumstances, wasn't overlooked by him.

"Of course you two arrived together. You've been spending a lot of time together lately, aren't you?" Sam asked them rhetorically. "What were you doing when I called you? I tried at least five times before I could even get a reply from any of you."

I was fucking my wife; in case you were not aware of that. Or not, we were in the middle of an argument, but that wouldn't be the part I would tell you about. Derek's mind immediately thought of that answer, but it was not the best place to start another fight with Sam, was it?

"Excuse me?" Addison quickly reacted, dropping Derek's hand, while he remained in silence.

"You've heard me. You two should be ashamed. You should have paid more attention to Amelia, knowing her condition, you should have seen the signs. Maybe then, we could have avoided all of this." Sam exclaimed frowning, as if he was just expecting Addison and Derek to arrive to finally let them know what he was thinking.

"You can't be serious, Sam. This is my sister we're talking about, so I would appreciate if you could just stay out of my family for once; and don't get me wrong, I'm grateful that you were here and were kind enough to let us know about the accident, but we can take it from here." Derek raged at Sam, he had been trying to keep it together, but lately, Sam Bennett had this talent of messing up with his nerves.

Give me one more excuse and I'll fucking punch you, Sam. I don't care if we're in the hospital or even if I damage my surgical million-dollar hand. You would make it completely worth it.

"No, I am deadly serious. Because it's obvious that you two weren't there to avoid any bad decision that might have led Amelia to be in this position. Once again, you're here avoiding to take responsibility for the things you want to stay away from." Sam thundered with anger, as if this situation could have been completely avoided by Derek or even Addison's intervention.

"Sam, this is clearly not the place or the time." Addison remarked, even though Sam and Derek's arguments were nothing out of the ordinary nowadays, at least they should respect that they were still in the hospital, with one of their own being the patient, and their constant bickering against each other wouldn't improve the situation in any single way.

"No, it's okay. I want to know what is that supposed to mean." Derek insisted, he wasn't willing to give up easily, specially not when Sam was just standing there trying to make them look guilty for what's happening to Amelia.

"Derek, let him be." Once again, Addison tried to make him react and avoid that non-sense confrontation, but her attempts were being completely overlooked.

"No, no. If he has so many thoughts and keeps saying I'm the responsible for my sister's decisions, then I want to know what's the reason." Derek criticized Sam's words one more time.

Sam looked at Addison with disappointment and shook his head repeatedly in disapproval

"The reason? You're seriously asking?" Sam questioned with a sarcastic laugh "You come out of nowhere and suddenly all of these things start happening." He turned to Addison. "And you? You are unbelievable, you break up with me because I don't want to have any more children and what? Seconds later this is your next move?" Sam did not only emphasize the word "this" but also pointed at Derek while saying it. "Your ex-husband? The same guy that hurt you the most? What do you think he's going to do after he finishes with his patients here? I'll give you a quick sneak peak, he'll run away back to Seattle and it wouldn't be the first time he does that to you, right? But that's not even the main point of this, you've been so focused on each other that you didn't even notice that your own sister has been getting drunk and probably doing drugs right behind your noses and for what? Few minutes of pleasure that would only last until he decides he wants to get back with his old flame? You only noticed it once it's too late. You two should be ashamed."

"Sam, you're crossing the line. No, you're so far from the line right now that you can't even see it. We're not here to talk about us, our only concern here is Amelia as I would really appreciate it to stay that way." Addison snapped, trying to keep herself together after all the hurtful and out of place comments Sam had said.

"And now you care about Amelia." Sam rolled his eyes. "You know when you should've cared? From the first moment you started to see that she was missing days at work, at your place. Not now when it might be too late, Addison."

"How is all of this Addison's fault, Sam? She hasn't been nothing but supportive to Amy since the first moment that they met, they're as much as family as we are, so don't you ever even think of blaming Addison or accusing her that she doesn't care about my sister. Besides, Amy is a grown woman who has an addiction, nothing that Addison or even I could have done, would have change that. You don't get to make this awful night about you and your failed relationship. Because this isn't even a bit about you." Derek started to raise his voice, ignoring completely Addison's whispers, saying to keep it quiet. "No, it's okay, Addie. Because someone needs to say it, this is enough. You, Sam, are not the greatest guy out here. No, you know what? You're not even a good guy, you used to be one, but not anymore, everyone says that so often that of course, you had no other choice than believing it. Besides, I think everyone here is too friendly to say it out loud, but you need to shut the fuck up every once in a while; because you don't get to make my sister's downfall about you, not even about Addison. And if you ever try to make it about you again, then I swear to God that I'll…"

"You'll do what, Shepherd?" Sam ask rhetorically, he wouldn't think Derek would even try to scare him.

However, to Sam's mistake, Derek's hand clenches into a fist, his knuckles white with fury. The weight of their history, and the days of suppressed anger collide, and time seems to stand still. There has been a lot of tension in the air since Derek's arrival to Los Angeles and hearing Sam said all of those words, had been exactly Derek's breaking point. With a swift, unrelenting motion, Derek's fist finds its target—Sam's face. The impact is both cathartic and devastating, a physical manifestation of the emotional turmoil that has festered for far too long. The punch lands like a punctuation mark on their fractured relationship, leaving both men stunned and breathless.

Sam fell on the floor by the impact of the punch with a possible need of getting stiches as there was even blood running through his face, Addison was completely surprised by Derek's reaction as she had only seen him acting like that one time since they've met. Luckily, Charlotte and Cooper arrived just in time to presence what went down between the former two friends; and before Sam could even get himself together or before Derek could even think to act again, Cooper took Sam by his arms, and Addison stepped right in front of Derek, to avoid any further contact between the two.

"Enough, both of you!" Addison raised her voice this time. "You were very clear, this is about Amelia and only her. We're here because we all care about her, if we have any other difference, that doesn't matter right now, because at this point, I'm sure we only want what's best for Amelia."

That being said, both men remained in silence for the following hours as they were separated in different sides of the waiting room, with Addison staying next to Derek; while Charlotte and Cooper kept next to Sam. Shortly after the argument, Violet also showed up, bringing a couple of ice-creams with her, leave one on Derek's hand and the other one on Sam so he could put it on his face. "What? Excuse me for not being able to find a bag of ice in the E.R. of a hospital. Ice cream was the closest thing to it."

"Thank you, Violet." Derek mumbled while Addison kept the ice-cream envelop over Derek's hand.

Over what it felt like ages later, when Addison was resting her head on Derek's shoulder about to fall asleep, Pete then finally joined them bringing the long awaited news about Amelia and getting everyone's attention.

"We've ran the tests, she has her wrist broken, she was unconscious due the alcohol on her blood but she's clear now. We'll keep her in observation during the night, but she'll be good to go tomorrow. As for the other guy involved in the crash, he has a broken leg, nothing that cannot be fixed with a well-placed cast."

Addison had tears in her eyes as soon as she heard that Amelia would be okay, as a completely natural instinct, she wrapped Derek with her arms, where she could also hear him sigh in relief. "She'll be okay, Addie. Right?" He whispered with his voice almost breaking.

"She is, honey." Addison whispered back, while still holding him.

"Addison?" Pete cleared his throat, waiting for the "former" couple to break their embrace to keep going with their updates. "She's conscious now, she is asking to see you."

Addison quickly wiped the tears from her face and nodded. "Are you coming?" She asked Derek gently, but he didn't have words at the moment.

"I can stay with him." Violet volunteered as Addison nodded. "Derek? I'm sure she'll be happy to see you."

"She wants to see you, Addie. I'm sure she'll be okay with you there. You two had always have that special bond, I'm sure she'll prefer to see you first."

Addison didn't insist because she knew that he was right, and started to walk alone to Amelia's room next to Pete who was guiding her to it. During that short walk, Addison's mind went exactly to the moment when she realized Amelia and her had that special bond, as Derek would say, and how they've always been closer than all of the other Shepherd sisters.

FLASHBACK – AMELIA'S PROM NIGHT

Addison and Derek were visiting the Shepherd's household, they've been married for over a year now, so these visits were very common. At least, Addison always enjoyed her time with the Shepherds, as they were the kind of big family she always dreamed of. They weren't these two strangers trapped inside of a manor, keeping occupied with charities and while having nannies taking care of their children or the house duties. They were an actual and caring family, and even though Derek didn't like to spend time with all of his sisters, Addison was the one who would always insist to visit and to bring presents to all of them.

This time, they were only visiting for a couple of days after getting a call from Amelia. Being the youngest of the Shepherds siblings, she was the only one who was still in High School, on her last year. And despite of being a "troubled" kid, as many would say, she was still one of the smartest from her class.

With Amelia's prom night getting closer, Derek had this small ritual where he would meet his sister's dates to their respective proms, taking the role of their father to try to scare the guys who were brave enough to try to take them as a date. Even though his attempts were never successful, he wasn't intending to break that tradition with Amy.

"So… This Evan Blackwood. What can you tell me about him?" Derek asked his little sister, as she rolled her eyes. "Is he your boyfriend now? What happened with this other kid?"

"Steve." Amelia corrected her brother. "First, he's not a kid, and second, you know I do need to start getting ready, right? If you stay here all night with you asking me the world's stupidest questions, then I'll miss my prom. I know you have this own weird plan of scaring each of our dates, but it's not really our fault that you spent your own Prom without a date." Amelia turned back to Addison. "Did he ever tell you about that? How he was the only guy from his class without a date? That's a fun story."

Addison tried her best not to laugh, and almost succeeds at it, if it wasn't for a very soft smile that appear on her face. "He did tell me the story… But maybe if he had gotten a date during his Prom, then the girl would have realized that he was just too good and wouldn't have let him go, and of course, I wouldn't be here."

"You know that's not true, we would have been together no matter what… But, don't help her to change the subject… So, what about this boyfriend of yours?" Derek complained, Amelia was smart on moving on to a different subject but he wouldn't give up so easily.

"Fine, he's a nice guy, has brown hair, he's about your size and no, he hasn't seen any of the Star Wars movies, which makes him already cooler than you… Now, I need to get ready and Addie? Would you please help me with my dress? I need some girl support over there and luckily, none of my sisters are in sight."

"Yes, of course." Before joining Amelia, Addison left a quick kiss on Derek's lips and took that moment to whisper "Relax, Derek, I'll talk to her."

Addison followed Amelia to her bedroom where she was hoping to see her Prom Dress, but as soon as Amelia closed the door, she brought a completely different subject to the table.

"So, you have to promise that you'll keep your mouth shut and that you won't freak-out, and most important, won't mention a single thing to my brother. I know you're his wife, but you're also like the big sister I've always wanted, and yes, I'm aware that I have another three sisters."

Addison was confused by Amelia's comment but she didn't hesitate to give her an answer. "Of course, Amy, you know you can talk to me about everything. So, what's your deal with… What was his name?"

Amelia's expression completely changed when Addison mentioned her date, which made her nod in acceptance with a big smile on her face and that particular gaze the Shepherds had, with their bright blue eyes.

"Evan Blackwook, yes. We want to… You know, do it tonight… And I know he's far more experienced because probably it's not the first time for him, but it will the first time for me and, I'm not nervous at all but… I want to be prepared, if you know what I mean. Like, I'm not stupid, I don't want to get pregnant after my first time, or like getting something worse than that."

Even though Addison was surprised by the conversation, and for the fact that Amelia had given her the trust to have that kind of talk with her, she tried to get herself together and not to think about the fact that Amelia had completely grown up now, and she wasn't that 12-year-old girl who was obsessed with unicorns that she met when she started dating Derek.

"Come on, Addie. Say something, you know you're the only one I can trust." Amelia insisted after noticing Addison's reaction, which brought the redhead back to reality, one where Amelia was no longer that little girl she met, she was now grown and asking for the advice she wouldn't receive from her sisters.

"I – It's really nice that you want to be prepared, you know, most girls are too afraid to ask when the times comes or they don't have anyone to talk to, can you imagine having this kind of conversation with someone like Bizzy? Obviously, that never happened, because even days before the wedding, she was making me and Derek sleep in separate beds." Addison laughed along with Amelia.

"Right, because surely you and Derek were waiting until marriage." Amelia rolled her eyes. "Look, I don't wanna hear any details, it is already weird that I'm asking you despite the fact that you're doing my brother, because let's face it, that can only be gross." Amelia frowned with a strange look on her face showing disgust even at the smallest thought of it.

Addison couldn't help but laugh about Amelia's comment. "I promise I won't mention anything about your brother, but you, you can tell me everything about this Evan Blackwood. Is he really worth it?"

"He is like the coolest guy in my high school, he's smarter than any of those football players, and don't even get me started about those idiots from the fight club. He's probably the hottest guy there. And yes, I do like him, a lot."

Addison smiled, remembering for a moment when she was Amelia's age and was curious about everything and had no one to talk to, she was happy to be there for her, and even though Amelia did have many big sisters to ask about these details, she felt proud that she was the one she had chosen to go to.

"Look, Amy… I know that right now, Prom Night is a big deal, it is a night full of excitement and you want it to be special…" Addison would have continued but Amelia quickly interrupted her.

"So… Did you bring what I asked you to?" Amelia asked curiously, trying not to sound so interested on the subject, but in reality she was very grateful to have Addison there with her, despite of having many sisters, she knew that only Addison wouldn't judge her. Amelia shifted on her bed, a mixture of curiosity and a touch of nervousness in her eyes. She admired Addison's ability to tackle difficult subjects with a blend of wisdom and sisterly love.

Addison took a deep breath before continuing, "I did... But look, I just want you to know that when it comes to relationships and intimacy, you have to be prepared. I know, Prom might be the night you decide to take that step, and it's completely important you're taking care of yourself."

Amelia's cheeks turned a shade pinker as Addison's words sank in. She nodded, signaling her understanding. Addison reached into her bag and pulled out a small box. She handed it to Amelia, who took it with a mix of surprise and curiosity.

"There you have." Addison said, her voice soft. "You see, Amy, when you decide to take that step, whether it is with Evan Blackwood or not, it's very important not only that you feel ready, but you also need to protect yourself, not only emotionally but physically too."

Amelia opened the box, her eyes widening at the contents. She looked up at Addison, a question in her eyes. The redhead smiled, a mixture of reassurance and empathy in her gaze. "I know it might feel a little awkward, but trust me, it's worth it. What matters here is that you're being responsible and taking control of your own body."

The not-so-little girl nodded, absorbing Addison's words. She admired her sister-in-law's maturity and the genuine care she displayed.

"Just remember," Addison continued, "if you have any questions or anything at all that you wanna know, all you have to do is ask me. I'm here for you, and I'll always be here for you no matter what."

Amelia smiled, a mixture of gratitude and relief washing over her. She knew that this conversation was an important step toward growing up and taking care of herself.

"Thanks, Addie," The youngest of the Shepherds said, her voice filled with genuine appreciation. "I'm really lucky to have you as my big sister."

These words really touched Addison, because she never had the experience to be a big sister, and right now, Amelia had just granted her that tittle. She leaned in, giving her little sister a reassuring hug. "And I'm lucky to have you as my little sister, Amy. Just remember, I'm here for you no matter what. Now go ahead and enjoy your prom night, but also remember to take care of yourself."

As they embraced, the bond between the sisters grew stronger. "Addie, I do have another question about prom."Amelia said softly as she broke the embrace between them two.

"Yes, Amy? I told you, you can ask me whatever you want."

"Would you also do my hair? And this is also a very important thing for me that I wouldn't trust Kathleen, Nancy, Lizzy or even mom." Amelia smiled.

"Of course, just show me what you want and I'll try my best to make you look even better."

END OF THE FLASHBACK

Addison found herself in the door of Amelia's room, remembering her as the little girl she keeps on her mind, who was sweet enough to ask for her advice in one of the most important nights of her life, and it was since then that she felt like her big sister, and that was beyond her marriage with Derek, but not even after the divorce their relationship changed, not even slightly.

She knocked on the door a couple of times, but didn't actually expect an answer from the other side. Addison slowly walked in, noticing Amelia lying on her bed with tearful eyes.

"Hey" Addison greeted her, as she walked closer to the younger woman.

"Addie, I- I'm so… I –" Amelia's voice was soft, very similar to the girl who kept asking her for advices during her prom night.

"Shhh, it's okay. All that matters is that you're okay now and that we're all here for you." Addison took her hand, and gently ran her other hand through Amelia's hair. "You're okay now." Addison reassured her.

"I'm so sorry…" Amelia kept going despite of Addison's words. "I… I started seeing someone, and somehow I ended up with a drink on my hand, and… Things have been messy since then… I felt like if I kept that from you, then it wasn't a problem and I… I know this could've been way worse but… I… I don't wanna go through it again. It's not too late, isn't it?" Amelia asked with fearful tears on her eyes.

"It's not too late." Addison tried to be strong while holding her own tears. "I'll go to meetings with you, I'll take you to rehab if it's necessary, I'll do whatever it takes to help you go through this, okay? The fact that you're willing to take care of yourself after a slip, only shows how much you've grown, Amelia. You are one of the strongest people I know, and I'm sure you can make it. Besides, remember what I told you right before your prom night? I'll always be here for you, no matter what."

"I know that. Thank you, Addie." Amelia nodded softly and kept quiet for a moment. "Is he – Is Derek here?" She asked curiously, but also a bit afraid of the answer, because she didn't want to see that disappointing look on his face that she had become too familiar with.

"He's here, he's actually outside in the waiting room. Do you want me to..."? Before Addison could say any other word, Amelia shook her head in disappointment.

"No, I don't think he'll want to see me, not like this, you know? He'll be disappointed, and I can't deal with that now."

"I understand that, I really do… He's just, he's worried about you, I haven't seen him so scared since…" Addison tried to think in any time where Derek had that kind of fear on his eyes, and only could think about that time years ago when Meredith Grey was drowning. "…Since a very long time. He's very worried and only wants to be supportive, I promise."

"You're really into him again, aren't you?" Amelia tried to tease her without luck. "All I'm saying is… He has seen me at my worst and once he sees me right now… He'll realize that I'm still his little sister who keeps messing around."

"Look, if he's anything but supportive, I'll take him back to Seattle myself, I promise."

"That would make a lot of people around here very happy." Amelia mocked while trying to be funny once again, at least if she was back on her usual comments, then that would mean that she's not feeling like crap.

"It's nice to see that your sense of humor is back." Addison admitted between a brief smile.

"Fine, he can come. But please, wait outside in case things turn out weird so you can take him out of here."

"I'll do that." Addison agreed with a smile on her face and left the room to find her ex-husband, who was still sitting next to Violet on the waiting room, and with the defrost ice-cream envelop still on his right hand.

"She's ready to see you." Addison announced Derek, as the other doctors were simply curious about Amelia's status. "She's conscious, and being unfiltered. That can only mean that she'll be okay." She updated the rest of them, just as she would do with the family of any of her own patients.

Just several minutes later, Addison comes back to Amelia's room holding hands with Derek, he looks completely devastated once he looks at his little sister again on that condition.

"I'll be just outside the door in case you need me, okay?" Addison announced, Derek gave her a look, trying to make her stay but she still left the room.

"You really scared me this time, Amy." Derek broke the silence after Addison closed the door, leaving the two siblings alone with each other.

"I… I'm sorry..."

"I was afraid to lose you." Derek finally admitted his thoughts, something that he hadn't said out loud before, not even to Addison. "I – We can't lose you, not after dad, we wouldn't be able to deal with that… I'm just glad you're okay."

"I want to get better, this time for real… Addison will help me, I'll start going to meetings with Charlotte… I won't let this consume me, not this time, not ever. This time, I feel like I got a free pass, but… You know I've seen worst, and… I don't want to go through it again." Amelia admitted, trying her best not to cry.

"That would be the best decision you'd ever make. And I'll be with you through every step of the way, no matter if I'm still in L.A or if I go back to Seattle, I'll still be here for you."

"You know; I was just telling Addie that… I didn't want to see that disappointment on your eyes, I was thinking you'd be judgmental and would start to preach about it's my fault that I ended up drinking and getting into a car accident but… I think she was right. You are being supportive this time. I really appreciate it"

"Being fair, I think she's right most of the times, but don't you ever tell her I said that." Derek smiled briefly. "It's good that you two stayed close after everything. It's a relief to know, because if there's something I know certainly is that she will always take good care of you."

"Well, she is indeed like the sister I never had, and you're free to share that information with any of your sisters." Amelia laughed quietly. "So… Enough about me, what's going on with you? Anything you would want to share? As in terms of how you are not even hiding the fact that you're into Addison?"

Derek frowned and quickly rolled his eyes. "Do you realize that you just were in a car crash? There's no way we're talking about something different than you getting better. Besides, you're still on a hospital bed, we're definitely not talking about that."

"Come on, Derek. She brought you here holding your hand." Derek looked at her as if he couldn't believe her words. "What? I broke my wrist but I'm not blind."

"What do you want me to say, Amy? We had some crazy weeks, but everything is complicated, Sam won't stop interfering and then, once we start to actually talk then we start arguing for those things we never even bother to acknowledge at the end of our relationship and were better being left unsaid, but then of course…"

"Those old feelings get in the way?"

"To be laying on a hospital bed, you've very annoying, you know that?"

"Well, am I wrong?"

"No, you're not."

Amelia holds her brother's hand with her no-broken one, and tightens it for a bit. She remains in silence for the following minutes until noticing the swallowing on Derek's hand and being curious about it.

"So, are you gonna tell me who did you punch? And don't give me that crap that you fell onto your hand or something." Amelia asked while examining her brother's hand.

Derek didn't even hesitate and even smiled victorious. "I only did something that was long-coming. I've punched Sam Bennett on the face." Derek admitted it even looking happier than he had been on the last few hours since they arrived to the hospital. "And before you ask, he fucking deserved it."

A/N: So, there was a lot going on on this chapter, but I have to say that Sam finally getting what he deserved was completely satisfying to write. Also the flashback is one of my favorites because I've always loved the relationship between Addison and Amelia, this is based in a conversation Addison had with Sheldon during the Intervention Episode in Private Practice, where she says that she took Amelia to get her ears pierced, did her hair to Prom and talked about Birth Control when she didn't know who to turn to (I think this episode was 5x08 but you can correct me if I'm wrong)

There are still a couple of chapters left for this story and hopefully I won't make you wait another year for them, so if you're still interested you'll probably see the rest sooner than later. Besides, Addison and Derek still have some (a lot of) work to do.

I will also keep resubmitting my other story "Only yesterday was the time of our lives" though AO3, so if you've been following that story, you can also expect a new chapter this week.

And lastly, please I would like to hear your thoughts on you do you think that things will turn out for Addison and Derek!
