A/N: Happy Weekend, everyone! The next chapter is all ready to go, so let's get right into it! I am not sure how many chapters this story will have, but I am trying to make it as long as I can. I have a lot of ideas for how the story will progress, so I hope you are enjoying it.
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
Chapter 6
Kingdom of Darkness, 6 months earlier
Shan Yu had been right about one thing: Finn was punished dearly for his actions.
The morning after his failed escape attempt, at least a dozen Green Army Men pulled him from his cell. Finn allowed himself to be shackled and blindfolded, (as he was being held at gunpoint, he didn't have much say in the matter), and calmly followed his captors to the Dark Castle. He remained silent as they walked, but his mind was already coming up with another plan.
It wasn't long before they arrived at their destination. From the smell of things and the fact that they had walked down a long staircase, Finn guessed that he was once again in the dungeons beneath the castle. His suspicions were confirmed when he heard an iron door being opened and he was forced inside.
The guards quickly removed his shirt and secured his shackled wrists to the ceiling. Additional chains were attached to his ankles. Finn's heart was beating rapidly now.
When the blindfold was finally removed, it took a minute for his eyes to adjust. The dungeon was dimly lit by the torches that lined the circular room. There were no windows and the door in which they had entered was the only way out of the room. Six of the army men stood facing him at gunpoint. The others left the room just as Hades and the Coachman entered.
The Coachman had a whip in his hand.
Sensing what was about to happen, Finn struggled to free himself. But Hades grabbed him by face as the guards raised their weapons higher.
"Save your strength kid. You're going to need it. Besides, I just want to talk! Cooperate, and this will all be over soon enough."
"I don't know anything," Finn growled, "Even if I did, I would die before I told you!"
Hades shook his head in disappointment and released Finn's face.
"You don't seem to understand the situation you are in, Boy! Let me break it down in a way that even your small brain can comprehend. I won! The world and everything in it belong to me! Game over!"
"I will never stop fighting you, Hades! I will escape and break the curse if it is the last thing I will ever do! As long as I have breath in my body, you will never win."
The dark lord gave him an evil smile.
"That's the juicy part: the Beacon of Darkness is still connected to you. You are powering it even as we speak! Finn Whitman, you are a living battery!"
So, Finn's suspicions had been correct. The Overtakers were keeping him alive so that the curse remained active.
"I won't be alive forever. Everyone dies eventually."
"Ah, but after the Red Moon, even that will be impossible. You see, in a few months, a very special phenomenon will take place. One that occurs only once in a million lifetimes. The Beacon will be charged by the moon's special powers, and we will rule for all eternity! All of us- including you, my young Kingdom Keeper- will live forever."
Hades paused to relish in the look of horror on Finn's face. The teen relaxed in his chains and stared at the floor as he realized that not even his death could stop the Overtakers.
Silence hung in the dungeon air until Hades finally spoke again.
"But that's not the reason why I had you brought here today, my dear child! It doesn't all have to be doom and gloom for you! I am here to offer you a choice: you can either spend all of eternity in chains, or you can spend it at my side. Rule with us and become a part of the new world order! Which is it going to be?"
Finn looked his enemy dead in the eye.
"Go to Hell."
Crack!
Finn let out a scream as his body reacted to the whip.
"Wrong answer, Kid. Care to try again?"
"NEVER! AGHH!"
The whip made contact a second time.
"I can do this all day, Finn."
"I..WILL…NEVER…JOIN…YOU!", panted Finn.
"Then eternity is going to be a lot of fun for you…"
Kingdom of Darkness, Present Day
`ZAP!
Finn let out a yelp as the cattle prod pierced his side.
"Get back to work, Keeper Scum!"
The guard walked away as Finn picked up the scrub brush he had been using. His knees and back ached from kneeling on the stone floor.
Three weeks had passed since he had been tortured and branded with the mark of the Overtakers. Since that dreadful day, he had yet to attempt another escape. Hades' warning still lingered in the back of his mind.
This had not gone unnoticed, however. The OTs still weren't completely convinced that he had accepted his fate at last.
Which was how he had ended up in his present situation. Instead of returning him back to his cell at the fort, Hades had decided to keep an even closer eye on him. So, Finn had been moved back to the dungeons beneath the castle. Every morning, the guards removed him from his cell and put him to work. A chain attached to a peg on the floor gave him enough freedom to move around the room while keeping his ankle secured. The guards were stationed at every doorway to the room. Their swords hung at their belts, but the cattle prod they held provided a non-lethal threat. Finn had lost count of how many times they had used it this morning alone.
Despite the way things currently looked, Finn had still not given up on breaking the curse. Recent developments in the Kingdom of Darkness had provided much needed information.
For the past few months, there had been rumors about a resistance movement. The Overtakers had dismissed them as nonsense at first. But then, one of the civilians was arrested for trying to start a riot in the streets. The young woman had managed to attract a small crowd before the guards arrived. She hadn't been seen since.
Finn had first heard whispers about the resistance after one of his punishments in the cells. About a week after his nightly swim from the island, he had tried once again to escape the guards. He had managed to make it all the way to a backstage area in what had once been Tomorrowland, only to come face to face with Darth Vader and a squadron of stormtroopers. He had been captured immediately and taken to the torture chamber where he screamed in pain for several hours. After Hades had determined that he had been whipped enough for one day, the guards had returned him to his cell. As he fell into an excruciating painfilled sleep, he heard them talking about the attempted riot.
Finn fell asleep that night with a newfound hope in his heart as well as an even more determined mind to break the curse.
Once he had been brought to the castle, he began to pay close attention to every conversation. The signs of rebellion continued to grow over the past few weeks, leading to more arrests, more laws, and an even stricter curfew.
He desperately needed something that he could use in his plan. There wasn't much time left. Only three days remained before the Red Moon now. The planets had almost completely aligned, and soon the moon would be full.
He had to break the curse no matter what the cost.
As he scrubbed a stubborn stain near one corner of the room, he heard voices just outside the door of the room.
"Lord Hades, we have received reports of a resistance attack on the castle," Gaston announced.
"When will the attack take place?"
"Tonight, My Lord! At midnight."
"I want the guard tripled and anyone outdoors arrested immediately. The rebellion will not deny me my victory."
"It will be done, Dark One!"
The pair left the area, leaving Finn to think about what he had just heard.
An attack was being planned for tonight! Now was his chance! Hades would have the guards so focused on the resistance attack that no one would pay any attention to Finn. It was just the distraction he needed to make his escape!
ZAP!
"AHH," Finn shrieked as he was once again shocked by the cattle prod.
"I said get back to work," growled the guard.
A/N: You know what to do! See you in the next chapter!
See ya real soon!
