Chapter 2: Enter the Foundation

Unknow location

The observation room staff stared at their monitors, some occasionally typing on their keyboards. the metal sliding door opened, "Greetings, Director Haddock". a man in a nice suit stepped in, his large seven-foot frame just fit in the doorway.

"Were you able to capture the anomaly?", the director walked to the center of the room.

"Yes, Boss", Eric nods once, "It along with this one". Sergeant Eretson had yet to report to his director, the medical staff recommended a complete physical when his team returned to the site. he was dressed in the standard Foundation BDU, plain white with light grey urban tiger stripe camouflage pattern.

The director walked to the glass wall overlooking the blacked-out room below, the only thing not obscured by the darkness was a table with a light hanging above it. two chairs were at either end, one was occupied by an unconscious small figure. a site security officer stood on either side of the teen, ensuring that their 'guest' wouldn't be a problem for the anticipated staff member.

a door opened on the far side of the vast dark room; a rhythm of foot falls echoed as soon as it closed. both officers stood at attention when a woman in her mid-late twenties was illuminated by the lone light. she was slightly above average height, her blonde hair in a short cut. she set down her satchel, moving aside her open lab coat to sit down. after shuffling her chair closer to the table, she retrieved her laptop from inside her satchel. a handful of manilla folders followed after, then a recording device before she closed her satchel. the woman then set her bag at the table's feet, motioning the officers to begin when she set the recorder on.

one of the security guards pulled a small packet from one of her vest's pouches, breaking it in her fingers. while the other officer held up Hayden's head, the female guard wafted the small packet under his nose. "Ah", the reaction was immediate, "Ugh". the teen took a few breaths and groaned, he managed to raise his hanging head. it took a few moments for his eyes to adjust to the light of the room, "Where... where am I, who are... are you?".

"Welcome, My name is Dr. Aria, allow me to answer any questions I can", Hayden sees the speaker is a blonde woman. "Let us begin, this is one of the sites the foundation operates", he looks around, seeing nothing but darkness.

"The foundation?".

"The SCP foundation is a private organization operating with the highest discretion of the world's governments. we are tasked with Securing anomalies that may upset the stability of human society. Containing said anomies for study to better understand their properties. we do this to Protect the world and all its inhabitants, so that they may live normal lives. where we are now is the underground section of site Meridian, located on south Nunivak Island", she interlocked her hands and rested them on several manilla folders.

"That's impossible, there's only one Nunivak Island!", Hayden knew geography well, scoring well above his grade.

"The foundation operates in secret, our existence is known to very few in the upper echelon of governments", she corrected. "We have many tools and technology at our disposal to ensure our secrecy". "If you are wondering if anyone is going to look for you, that will not happen", Hayden's eyes widen as if she read his mind, "All documentation of you in Norway's records have been erased or redacted, anyone who you may or may not have interacted with has already been administered amnestics".

"I don't understand!", Hayden struggles against the shackles keeping him bound to it, "Why am I here, I'm just a normal teenager!".

"It appears as though you may not know the truth", Aria typed on her laptop before turning it around. she tapped to begin the video recording, "Hayden Hansen, the name given to you on September 20th 1993". the monitor showed the footage of Berk Lower Secondary school's security camera, "On that day, a pair of hikers stumbled upon an abandoned car in Jotunheim park". she read through the files as he watched, "Inside they found a wailing infant and contacted the local authorities. despite their investigation, they could not locate who left you there". Hayden lets out a gasp when he sees himself bifurcated, the two MTF agents open fire on the anomaly, "You were shuffled around Norway between foster home to foster home until ending up in Berk". he felt lightheaded when he sees his body pull itself together, "What you are seeing is not abnormal to those of us in the foundation, however such potent regenerative abilities are rare in anomalies".

"I...".

"I hope you will understand why we must do this", she closed her laptop after filing away the manilla folders.

"no... No!", Hayden thrashed in the chair, the bindings keeping him firmly secured. "NO, this isn't happening-", security held his radio's neck fastener, then nodded. the security officers each grabbed Hayden's arms, a buzzer sounded out to unlock the shackles. the two officers dragged the flailing teen away into the darkness.

The director waited patiently in the observation room, not reacting when the door slid open, "What is your assessment, Analyst Aria?".

"His temperament seems to match a normal human adolescent", she handed the director a file. "This file contains complete blood work performed on him while sedated", Stephen paused on a section, "I have yet to read into it". his gaze doesn't move from the pages, "I would like to recommend redesignating his threat level to 'safe', Director".

"I'll take it under advisement", he closed the folder with a slight scowl. "In the meantime, the higher-ups have requested your presence", Aria tucked her hands into her coat's pockets, "Your performance is being reassessed, it could be a promotion for you".

The analyst tried to remain neutral, but a slight smile crept on her face, "Understood, Director".

"Your flight is already prepped on the airfield", Stephan looked through the glass wall with his back to her, "Best be on your way".

"Thank you, Sir, if you'll excuse me", she left the room, the director's reflection showing a deep scowl.

Elsewhere in the facility

A science officer led the pair of security holding up the whimpering teen, dragging him through the halls.

The staff manning SCP-682's containment cell discussed his lack of activity, recording his abnormal state. a few monitors beep and chimed, drawing the attention of the staff, "Wait, something is happening". the seated members typed quickly on their computers, bring up the views of cameras observing the acid pit below. the leviathan stirred, his massive body shifting the dangerous liquid to create waves that lapped at outcroppings on the edges of his enclosure.

"Bring up that camera", the team did so, the large monitors displaying the giant rearing up from the acidic pool.

"Why is he so interested?", the titanic reptile gazed intently at the south wall, slowly panning his head across the blank reinforced wall.

"Are you recording this?", a member nods while keeping watch on his computer's monitor.

Foundation testing chamber

The director looked down from the observation wall, watching as the two officers drag Hayden into the room. "Director, we are ready to begin", while one held the teen to the immobilizing chair, the other moved his hands to the armrest binds. Hayden tried to resist but the female officer was stronger, the metal contraption spun around to lock his wrist to the armrest with a firm click.

"Proceed", Stephen's voice sounded out from the PA system.

"You called, Boss?", Eric stepped through the door.

"Beginning termination attempt #1", the science officer spoke into his recording device. "Subject, designation 'Zero'", a wide doorway opened on the far end of the room. a group wearing HAZMAT suits rolled in a medical cart, one wearing a different colored suit approached the science officer with a clipboard. she signed and handed it back to the HAZMAT member.

"Sir, what are you doing?", Eretson questioned what was going on below.

"Following my orders", the cart's top whirled and clicked, opening and raising a device cradling a broken glass tube. The staff gasped, shocked at the reveal of the compromised viral container. the alarms went off, "Warning, contamination detected!", the lights in the testing chamber turned red.

the Science officer started coughing violently, "Medic!", the security officer rushed to her, leaving Hayden's left wrist free.

"Traces of SCP-008 detected, initiating emergency lockdown", the center hubs of the doors spun to seal the room's entryways, metal shudders slid over the observation rooms windows.

"008, Boss, what were you thinking!", Eric rushed out of room to gather his team, the monitors above Stephen displayed the cameras looking into the testing chamber.

"I'm not getting any vitals!", the science officer was limp in his arms, one of the HAZMATs examined her. she sprung to life, sinking her teeth into his neck, "Agh!". the HAZMAT pulled off the infected officer while his team rushed to the wounded security's side, blood was streaming out her mouth as she thrashed in his hold.

She broke free and tore off the HAZMAT's mask, shoving him down to the ground and biting his face, "Help me!".

Hayden frantically pressed buttons and switches, trying to free himself while the staff was quickly succumbing to the infection. he unlocked himself, scurrying to the door to desperately try to open it. the remaining security shot two of the infected staff, killing one with a headshot but the rest overwhelmed her. Hayden could only whimper in the corner, watching as they descended on her like animals. his heartbeat thumped between his ears, the horror he was witnessing shattering his mind. his vison gradually fading to red as started losing consciousness.

A dark void

Hayden woke up, the floor of the infinite darkness covered in a thin film of liquid. the vast emptiness was dark and cold, yet he could look himself over just fine. a thump in the obscured distance echoed, followed by a ripple passing through his feet. one after another, the low thuds began to grow nearer. Hayden stood frozen in fear as a looming shadow approached, knowing that he couldn't escape. the massive form seemed to slip through the dark veil, finally revealing its titanic reptilian body. the giant creature looked down at the teen, piercing eyes hidden in the orbits of its long snout skull-like face. it slowly circled the shaking teen, examining his tiny thin frame.

Hayden could only shrink under the gaze of the leviathan, its aura smothering him like the dragons of european myth. after circling Hayden twice, the creature sat on its haunches and locked its eyes at the quivering teen, "Hmm, never doubted... you would return... here".

"Huh?", hearing the creature speak made Hayden slip, landing on his rear.

"The worms... have told you... nothing?", he heard the raspy growl tone voice inside his mind.

"Wh-what are y-you?", he asked, not knowing if the monster would kill him.

"Soon... all will be... revealed...", the creature rose up, "However, our time... is short... but we will... speak again".

"Wait!".

"A warning... do not trust them... the worms... are our wardens", the titan lumbered back into the dark veil, leaving Hayden alone in the void.

Foundation testing chamber

"Timed override denied", the engineer agent kept trying to open the sealed door, "Standby... Override accepted, beginning decontamination procedure". vents in the ceiling opened, spewing out thick vapor into the testing chamber, "Decontamination in progress". Eric stood over the engineer, "Hurry, we still have people in there!".

"I'm trying!", his device's screen displayed text gradually changing from red to green. "Procedure at... fifty percent complete", the sergeant motioned his team to mask up. "Decontamination... complete", the security agents shouldered their firearms, "Opening doors".

"Go, go!", Eric's voice was muffled by the gasmask. the agents rushed inside the room, expecting to engage the infect staff. However, when they formed a firing line, the infected were already dead. they moved carefully, examining the mangled remains of the former foundation staff. despite bite and claw marks, the team came to the conclusion that blunt force trauma was the cause of their demise. most infected had their skulls caved in, a few of them had their limbs broken or severed but connected by just flesh.

"Damn, what a mess", one agent holding a Benelli M4 shotgun, she followed the blood trail further into the room. the rest of the team was close behind, each member covering a different angle. they stopped when their lights reveal a pair of legs still standing, they panned up to see a young figure standing with their back to them. before the teen, more infected staff bodies lay mutilated, "Turn around!".

The teen wobblily turned to face them, a pipe wrench covered in bits of gore held in his hand, "Drop it!". Eric hand motioned his team to hold their fire, giving Hayden a chance. the sergeant looks at the teen, seeing his eyes void of emotion.

A few moments later, they fade back to life, "What... what happen?". he looks around and sees the security team, dropping the wrench in his hand. then he sees the remains of the infected, "Oh... m-my-". he looks at his hands, covered in blood and bits of flesh, "Urgh". he tries to hold his mouth, but that only causes him to vomit. he coughs out the last of his sick, hyperventilating trying to comprehend what happen. the team kept their firearms pointed at Hayden, until the teen fainted.

The medic on Eretson's team rushed to his body, "Well?".

"Nothing sir", the agent checked him over, "He just lost consciousness".

"Eric", the director's voice came from his earpiece. "Yes, sir", he motioned the rest of the team to clear the room. "Collect the anomaly, 682-0", Eric looked back to the medic cleaning Hayden, "Place it in a temporary containment cell". "Director?", two members of his team ushered in the cleanup crew. "We'll attempt a new termination as soon as another chamber is prepped", Eric stood still as the crew began to bag up the bodies and hose away the blood from the floor, "Understood?". the sergeant took a deep breath, "Yes, sir", reluctantly responds.

(A/N: Until next time.)
