The Lookout
"Mr. Popo isn't sure about this." Mr. Popo said.
"It's either let us train in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber or go to Namek yourself," Carri said cheerfully.
"When you put it that way, Mr. Popo would be honored if you use his Hyperbolic Time Chamber for your training needs." Mr. Popo said. His creepy smile never left his face.
"I thought you might be," Carri said. "Goku, Krillin, Diana, and Gohan, you go first. We'll each spent a day training inside which is the equivalent of one year of outside time unless I'm mistaken?" Carri looked to Mr. Popo for confirmation.
"That is the standard time dilation, although it can be set much higher or lower." Mr. Popo explained.
"Tomorrow Gine, Starfire, Waller, and I will take our turn," Carri said.
"Splendid," Waller grumbled.
"Can I go inside with Goku's group?" Bulma asked. Bulma produced a bowling ball-sized sphere from the overalls she wore over her Capsule Corp jumpsuit. "I have a device I want to finish perfecting before we leave for Namek, but there simply isn't enough time left what with having to make sure Kami's old ship is truly space worthy. It'll take me more than a couple of weeks to get all the bugs worked out, even if I could somehow find the spare time."
"If you want to, of course," Carri said.
"There are buggies in your device Bulma Keeper of the Briefs, are they cute?" Starfire asked innocently. "My pet Silkie was the cutest larva ever."
"I didn't mean literal insects Koriand'r, I meant glitches," Bulma answered. 'And here I thought Goku could be naive. Is this girl for real?' Bulma could not help but think.
"Oh, I understand," Starfire said although in truth she did not quite understand.
"Out of curiosity, what is it?" Carri asked eyeing the oddly familiar sphere.
"Something I whipped up to hopefully give you a boost in your upcoming battle against Darkseid. It's based on those moon-light spheres the Saiyans use to artificially induce their great ape transformation. I thought if the Saiyans can artificially generate moonlight to give themselves an unfair advantage, why can't I generate sunlight to give you a pick me up or even possibly trigger a Kryptonian styled transformation." Bulma explained. "Thanks to Yajirobe damaging the one Vegeta used with his sword Capsule Corp obtained a more or less intact one. Vegeta's sphere has set my research ahead literally years."
"Bulma you're the best," Carri said hugging her longtime best friend while being careful not to harm Bulma accidentally.
"Wow, now you might have two techniques to throw at Darkseid, honey: the Kaioken, once I teach it to you, and Bulma's boost. I'm kind of jealous." Goku said to which everyone, save Waller and Mr. Popo, laughed.
"You truly are a genius. I wish I passed half your superb intellect, Bulma." Diana said her voice full of admiration.
"I wish I was half the warrior you are, Diana. You kick ass and take names." Bulma said showing her admiration for the Amazon Princess.
"Not bad," Waller conceded after a not so friendly poke in her ribs from Gine's left elbow.
"I've always been impressed by Bulma's amazing mind from the moment we first met. I remember it like it was yesterday. She came looking for the Dragon Ball that contained Granpa Gohan's spirit and found us along with it." Gine said. She was still trying to make sense of her jumbled memories caused by Dr. Fate's spell. Although she knew she had not spent the past two decades (or more) in this universe one set of memories told her a very different story.
"It was an unforgettable day that's for sure. One that changed all our lives, for the better." Bulma said.
Bulma hugged Gine. Gine was surprised for a moment until she recalled that according to Bulma's altered memories Gine was akin to an aunt in Bulma's eyes. They had grown close during the Dragon Ball Quest. Gine gently patted Bulma on her back as she smiled. This truly was a wonderful life one worth fight for.
Capsule Corp two weeks later, morning
"Be careful everyone," Carri said. "Gohan, keep up with your lessons eventually this series of crises will pass you'll still need a quality education."
"Will do, mom," Gohan said.
"I wish we were going to Namek together," Goku said while he and Carri held hands.
"So do I," Carri said.
Goku and Carri kissed each other passionately then Goku's group departed in Kami's ship following a round of heartfelt goodbyes. Under the direction of Bulma and Dr. Briefs, Capsule Corp personnel had exhaustively overhauled and upgraded Kami's vessel using the remains of Turles' and Raditz's pods. Kami's ship was now much faster than before. Bulma estimated the journey to Namek would take only one month.
The next several weeks passed uneventfully. Carri's group and their remaining friends began to wonder if the mysterious Supreme Kai of Time Chronoa had been mistaken about her warning. No sooner had those who remained behind received the word that Kami's ship safety reached Namek then Darkseid returned. The dreaded New God was ready to rumble it would seem. Carri's group rushed to confront him in the countryside where he first appeared those many years ago.
Earth, Afternoon
"Darkseid," Carri hissed narrowing her eyes. Around her stood Gine, Starfire, and Waller each ready to assist if the need should arise.
"I heard you and the boy survived. I had my doubts but Turles was quite insistent." Darkseid said his hands clasped behind his back.
"I should have killed that slimeball when I had the chance," Carri said.
"Now, now, Power Girl I can sense it's you, at least in part, killing a defeated foe is far from heroic conduct." Darkseid taunted. "I don't suppose, by any chance, you and your friends are my welcoming committee here to submit to your new ruler?"
"Not a chance," Carri said.
"Good," Darkseid said ominously. "I haven't partaken in a challenging nor satisfying fight since I arrived in this sorry excuse for a universe."
"We'll see if we can change that," Gine said.
"Ah, the boy's mother," Darkseid said. "I do hope you'll prove more powerful than him. From what I could sense of your son's power level when we met it was laughably weak."
"Goku has grown far more powerful since then as have I," Gine said.
"I sincerely hope so, for your sake and more importantly for my amusement," Darkseid said.
"Enough talk let's show him what we've got!" Waller said. Having grown impatient she barreled towards Darkseid who, for his part, continued to stand perfectly still.
"No, wait, Waller, we should take him together!" Carri cried out.
"You do what you want I'll do what I want. Besides, he doesn't look so tough." Waller said.
Waller delivered a flying punch to Darkseid's jaw without effect. She punched and kicked Darkseid multiple times in his torso, still nothing. She was about to punch his face again when she found his hand around her neck. How had he moved so fast?
"Disappointing," Darkseid said before he hoisted Waller above his head then slammed her into the ground face first.
"Take him, girls!" Carri commanded.
Carri unleashed twin concentrate torrents of Heat Vision on Darkseid. Gine threw multiple small non-stop balls of Ki at Darkseid. Starfire blasted Darkseid with a continuous stream of her solar derived energy. They sustained their attack for over a minute by which time a somewhat recovered Waller had joined with Ki blasts. Carri told them to stop. To their horror, Darkseid remained upright and fully conscious. Other than his tattered, smoking garment he had suffered no noticeable damage.
Darkseid yawned he actually yawned. Their combined energy attack meant less than nothing. "You bore me," Darkseid said. "Behold my might." From his fiery red eyes, Darkseid unleashed his feared Omega Beams.
"Scatter," Carri said. "Don't let them hit you!"
Carri, Gine, Starfire, and Waller flew away as fast as they could in different directions. It was no use. The relentless Omega Beams followed wherever they fled, around corners, behind mountains, through forests, it did not matter. The Omega Beams were about to zap Gine when Carri used Kaioken X2. Carri jumped between Gine and the Omega Beams taking their full force. They were so strong their impact took Carri out of Kaioken.
"Are you are alright?" Gine asked her kneeling daughter-in-law. Carri gave Gine a thumbs-up. "Why did you put yourself in harm's way?"
"I'm fine, I think. I protected you because of the Omega Beams. They aren't a normal attack. They can disintegrate most beings with one hit no matter how powerful the being is. Kryptonians can usually survive them, usually. I used Kaioken to be extra safe. They still hurt like hell." Carri said with a weak smile as she got to her feet. "Come on, we have to stop Darkseid."
"Any ideas how?" Gine asked.
"I have one or two," Carri said patting her pants pocket inside of which was Bulma's device. She removed the device passing it to Gine for safekeeping. "Hold onto this should my first idea not work."
A few minutes later Carri, Gine, Starfire, and Waller returned to find Darkseid in the same spot. "I'm slightly impressed you survived my Omega Beams." He said.
"We're full of surprises," Carri said going Kaioken X4.
Surrounded by the bright red flame-like aura, Carri lashed out at Darkseid. Carri knew she had to go for broke. She would not be able to maintain this taxing state for long. Darkseid did not defend himself from her punches a decision he soon regretted. Carri weakened him with each blow. Before long Darkseid staggered. Seeing her plan had worked Carri went all out she used Kaioken X10 the highest level she dared use. Darkseid attempted to retaliate but Carri was not only nearly his equal in strength now but she was also faster than him. She dodged or deflected his every attack. He attempted to use his Omega Beams again. Carri noticing the buildup of energy in his eyes poured her seriously amped up Heat Vision straight into Darkseid's face temporarily blinding him.
"Agrrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhhh," Darkseid screamed in pain.
Carri's allies could barely keep track of the action even before Carri used her enhanced Heat Vision. Dazzled by the intense light they were lost. The ground beneath their feet rocked from the powerful attacks Carri used against Darkseid.
"Who is winning!?" Waller shouted.
"Carri, I think!" Gine shouted back.
"Who is she?" Starfire asked pointing upwards.
Waller's and Gine's gazes followed Starfire's finger upwards. "No idea, but I have a sinking feeling she isn't a friend," Waller said.
Suddenly a swirling portal of dark purple energy appeared not far away. From the vortex emerged A pale blue-skinned female Demon. She wore a red and black bodysuit with a cape which showed off a tantalizing amount of her torso along with her underboobs. In her right hand, she held a long staff.
The pale blue-skinned female Demon looked down at Carri pummeling Darkseid. "Tsk, this doesn't work for me. I know, I'll do what I do best. I'll flip the time script." She said her expression brightening. She zapped Darkseid with dark purple energy from her staff.
Darkseid roared in triumph. His body quickly became saturated with dark purple energy. His power level increased exponentially. Empowered Darkseid effortlessly swatted Kaioken X10 Carri away. He then beat Carri brutally until a point-blank blast from his Omega Beams knocked her out of her Kaioken state.
"We have to help Carri!" Gine exclaimed.
"I wouldn't if I were you unless you've grown weary of life." The pale blue-skinned female Demon said from where she hovered high above.
"Carri, catch!" Gine shouted throwing Bulma's device to Carri who immediately activated it.
A blinding flash of grey-white light engulfed Carri. When the light emitted diminished to a steady level, Carri stood transformed. Her new form closely resembled a film negative her skin pitch-black while her uniform, hair, and eyes were a stark white. Grey-white energy continuously wafted off her body in a fashion similar to smoke.
"This is unexpected." The pale blue-skinned female Demon said with interest.
Without a word, Carri again joined Darkseid in battle. Around them, the atmosphere grew hot until the very air became red. Massive fissures opened up. The planet began to crumble due to their titanic clash. On they went exchanging attacks that would have destroyed any other foe. Omega Beams, Heat Vision, punches, kicks, tackles, everything they had at their disposal they used. Gine, Starfire, and Waller looked on. They dared not interfere for fear of being destroyed by the crossfire.
"Carri, stop!" Gine yelled in vain. "There won't be an Earth left to save if you soon don't stop!" Carri would not stop. Thankfully, or so Gine thought at the time, the pale blue-skinned female Demon solved the dilemma of to intervene or not to intervene for Gine.
"Darkseid my love I know energy from the Crack of Time can be intoxicating, but you must crush this pitiful planet into dust without delay. You can deal with the female mongrel later." The pale blue-skinned female Demon said.
"You are correct, my dear Towa," Darkseid said.
Darkseid swatted Carri away again. He rose high into the air until he floated next to Towa fending off attacks from Carri while he did so. Darkseid unleashed his Omega Beams but their target was not Carri or her friends rather it was the Earth itself.
"Oh, no," Gine said fearfully.
After once more pushing the enraged, altered Carri away Darkseid escaped with Towa via the vortex. The portal vanished before Carri could fly inside. Carri shot her Heat Vision at the spot the portal had occupied followed by an immense Kamehameha.
Gine knew Carri was out of control. "I hope this works," Gine said destroying Bulma's sphere with a Ki blast. Not long after the sphere was gone Carri reverted to her original form.
"W-What happened?" Carri asked as her normal thought process returned.
"You went berserk there for a bit," Waller said smirking despite the dire situation.
"We have to get to the Look Out! It is our only chance!" Carri screamed a moment later over the building wind. She could see the Earth was disintegrating around them.
"Why there, Mrs. Carri!?" Starfire asked fearfully.
"Unless I'm wrong the interior of the Lookout, such as the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, which is akin to a pocket dimension, should be able to survive this," Carri explained.
"And if you're wrong!?" Waller asked.
"We're toast," Carri said. She was about to lead the others there when a thought occurred to her. "What about my father, Master Roshi, and our other friends still on Earth!? We can't leave them behind, they'll die!"
From out of nowhere Chronoa appeared in a flash of light. Chronoa glanced around an expression of disdain clouding he features. "Go to the Lookout!" She urged. I'll save your loved ones!"
"Hey, I thought you said Carri and the rest of us would defeat Darkseid!? Why should we listen to you now if you were wrong then!?" Waller said.
"You would have indeed vanquished Darkseid if not for the interference of Towa! This event was not supposed to happen in the manner it did! Towa is a powerful Demon sorceress/scientist who serves the Demon God Demigra! There is no time to say more! The Earth will be gone soon and you as well unless you take action! I will meet you on Lookout in three Earth minutes after your arrival! Don't wait any longer than three minutes to enter the Time Chamber!" Chronoa said. "Do you trust me, Carri!?"
Chronoa's eyes locked with Carri's. Something unspoken passed between them at that moment, a deep understanding. Carri implicitly knew she could trust the Kai despite her previous prediction not exactly coming true.
"I trust you!" Carri said above the howling wind after only a moment of hesitation.
The Lookout, a short time later
Below the Earth had become a blackened cinder its surface crisscrossed by rivers of molten lava. "Three minutes are up. We need to move." Waller said.
"Just a moment longer. Chronoa will be here, I know she will." Carri said.
"Mr. Popo has removed the time dilation on the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. One day outside now equals one day inside." Mr. Popo said. His demeanor remained unflappable as if he did not have a care. In his hands, he carried Kami's statue of Shenron.
"What good is that thing? Kami is dead." Carri pointed out.
"If the model is destroyed Shenron will fail to revive upon glorious god Kami's return." Mr. Popo said.
"Sorry I was late," Chronoa said appearing in a flash of light. She was surrounded by Carri's loved ones. "Sadly, I was able to bring everyone here but one person needed to ensure the future, more or less, unfolds accordingly."
"Who would that be?" Gine asked. "Everyone who we know is here." It was true from Master Roshi and the Ox King to Bulma's parents to arguably less important individuals including Oolong and Launch were present.
"I failed to save a future acquaintance of great importance named Videl. She perished during one of the many earthquakes ravaging this world in its death-throes before I could intervene." Chronoa said. The name meant nothing to those gathered. "Fortunately, I have who I believe to be a suitable substitute for her role in mind. Unlike poor Videl, she is presently safe from Towa's and Darkseid's machinations. I'll do everything within my power to make certain she remains protected."
'Who was or would have been this "Videl"?' Carri thought. While Chronoa's words meant nothing to Carri, Mr. Popo or her Carri's loved ones Carri could not help but wonder about Videl.
"We have lingered for too long. The end of this world is nigh." Chronoa herded the group inside the Time Chamber.
"What about food, will there be enough in here for all of us?" Oolong who was always concerned with culinary matters asked.
"Don't worry. I'll see to your needs. This is a Time Chamber and Time is my specialty." Chronoa said with a wink before she sealed the door. Carri was going to ask Chronoa what to do about Goku and the others on Namek but she never got the chance.
"Did anyone bring a deck of cards?" Master Roshi asked staring out at the endless white expanse. "I think we'll need a way to kill time. Who is up for a friendly game of strip poker?" Roshi leered at the women. His sister Fortuneteller Baba slapped the back of Master Roshi's head from where she floated on her crystal ball. "What did I do?" Roshi moaned rubbing his sore head. Several people laughed Carri was not one of them.
"I'm sorry I failed to protect our home. Please stay safe on Namek, Goku, Gohan, everyone," Carri whispered.
Outside
Earth blew apart. A million tiny pieces flew in every direction. The planet our heroes fought so hard and long to preserve was no more.
Beerus' Planet, evening
"Oh, dear," The Angel Whis fretted sensing the unscheduled destruction of a distant planet, Earth. "Lord Beerus will be most displeased some party has usurped his duties in his absence. No doubt he should remain in his slumber until I can investigate this matter."
To Be Continued
Next – The odyssey of Goku's group on Namek begins.
