UA Entrance Exam
Estelle was finishing up her shift at The Beanery when the door chimed open. It had been a week since she first walked through the doors of The Beanery and was allowed to work with Nona. Nona and Estelle had gotten closer due to the loneliness they had both experienced, allowing them to bond in a familial way.
Nona had experienced the loss of her husband and son from a tragic car accident. It was a drunk driver, and due to this, she went through a sad stage of depression. When she finally got back on her feet and began her healing, her business and finances took a big hit as she was running things independently. Large industrial coffee companies booming worldwide caused smaller businesses like cafes such as Nona's to be affected as well.
Nona took that in her stride, though and continued pushing through. There were still people that loved small cafes. Since Estelle had started her job, there had been an increase in customers just in the last week. According to Nona, it seemed that having someone young and beautiful made customers come back. Estelle found Nona absurd in that regard. "It's your wonderful coffee that brings them back, not me", Estelle always replied, making Nona laugh.
Due to this, Nona has had extra in her pocket for the first time in a long time. Estelle was delighted for her since it allowed Nona to get by and have the ability to do things with her life. Nona offered to pay Estelle with some of the extra, but Estelle had refused completely. Luckily there was a system called tipping, and Estelle could get by with that alone leaving Nona with the excess. 'She deserves it with all the compassion she has', Estelle thought with a grateful heart.
She turned from the last table she was wiping down and froze when she saw the man at the counter. 'It's the strange man from the other night', she understood with surprise.
He turned his head and tilted back in mild shock as he regarded her. He had the same thought running through his own head. "It's you, that same girl that was passed out. I didn't know you worked here?"
Estelle's shrugged in response and answered, "Nona needed some help, so I volunteered. It's all still a bit new."
The man nodded in understanding. "Estelle, was it? You feel better from before?"
Estelle nodded in affirmation before asking, "I completely forgot to ask for your name when you found me. What is it?"
He smirked and grunted, "I'm Shota Aizawa. My hero name is EraserHead."
Nona had returned from the back with Aizawa's order, and he raised his hand to pay. He thanked Nona for the coffee and turned towards the exit. "You wanting to be a hero kid?" He asked out of curiosity, one hand holding the door open.
Estelle looked down at her tablecloth and bit her lip. "Yeah, but I also want to stay here and help Nona out. She's helped me a lot, and it's unfair of me to just leave her like that."
Aizawa sighed out loud. It seems that this kid was too caring for her own good. "Alright, kid, better make your decision soon. The entrance exams are only a week away. If you make it in, though, I'll see what I can do about making that work."
Estelle's head shot up in disbelief, but before anything could be said, she realised that he was already gone. Nona looked towards Estelle in amazement at her selfless thoughts and smiled to herself. She realised that she really did find a good kid to take in.
Estelle spent the next week helping Nona look after the cafe and finding out more about the world she now inhabits. It would do nobody any good if she went to a school of heroes and had no idea how something mundane worked. She found that this world was a lot more technologically advanced than the previous one. They had mobile phones to communicate freely, and the metal carriages were actually called cars.
Estelle felt a lot more integrated within the society she now resided in, and with Nona by her side, it was starting to feel a lot more comfortable. Granted, she still needed to look for a way back home, and Estelle refuses to attach herself to anybody else besides Nona for the greater good.
Estelle was currently on her way to the UA entrance exams. She hadn't really focused on her abilities while she was here because she didn't really need to. Estelle has trained her body to its peak within her old world, and getting in shouldn't be a problem.
When she walked into UA, Estelle was highly impressed with the building. It seemed like a prestigious place to be, and she understood why it was highly regarded as the best hero school in the country.
Estelle was given a number and test to complete. The paper contained a series of questions for her to answer regarding hero work and morals. She rolled her eyes at the simplicity of it all, 'anybody with a brain would be able to answer these,' she thought.
Estelle and the other potential students were ushered out to a hall with a stage where they all took their seats when the questions were answered. There stood an adult with blond hair and clothing that looked like a hero outfit. The man began to shout out the rules of the practical about to take place. Estelle tuned out the hero rambling on the stage in favour of examining her peers.
She sat next to a broccoli and an angry blond boy that resembled a dog she once saw outside The Beanery. The green-haired male seemed to be muttering out of nervousness, and the blondie seemed to be morphing into a dog, his growling getting louder in aggravation at the green boy.
Estelle's observations were suddenly interrupted by a male with metal sticking out of his legs. "Excuse me, but there are four enemies listed on the form, but you have only discussed three. If this is a misprint, then this is a disgrace to the prestigious UA high school!" He shouted out. The teen turned to the three behind him and continued, "And you, the boy with the unkempt hair. You have been muttering this whole time, and it is a distraction! Don't you have anywhere better to be?"
Laughter could be heard around the room, and the broccoli boy shivered in embarrassment with his hand over his mouth while he muttered his apologies. Estelle scoffed in disgust at the male in front of her and rolled her eyes.
'Typical, you can never get rid of guys with sticks up their asses.'
The male's head turned to Estelle, his glasses glinting up at her. "And you? What do you have to say for yourself? You look like you have no place here."
Estelle's head tilted towards the ground and sneered, her hair covering her eyes as she spoke, "Me? Oh no, nothing at all. Just waiting for this circus to be over with. It seems that broccoli over here isn't the one wasting mine and everyone else's time" She looked up and stared the boy down. "No. That seems to be you."
He gulped in nervousness before sitting back down quietly. The laughter around the hall immediately stilled to a halt. The man standing on stage, who Estelle now realised was actually called Present Mic, coughed to avoid the tense atmosphere before continuing with his speech.
The two boys next to her stared at her in stunned awe. They were amazed they hadn't noticed her at all since her presence seemed commanding and dominating all in one. Her relaxed but uncaring posture didn't hint at how she controlled the conversation and the room with her response.
Estelle remained lost in her thoughts, not noticing the stares she was getting from the people she was previously observing.
Estelle stood with her group of examinees. Her hands were in her pockets, and she was entirely relaxed for the stressful environment of a test. Those around her could feel her presence and stayed away, leaving her with a nice big personal bubble. Estelle liked her bubbles.
The test was based around a large city that was built as a fake. She was impressed by the enormity of it all as it showed the dedication these schools put in to provide realistic situations for future heroes. All the examinees stood at the starting line, waiting for the exam to start, still allowing Estelle to have her personal bubble. Estelle liked her bubbles.
The buzzer sounded off, and the examinees stood in confusion. Estelle immediately set her hands and feet ablaze and shot off into the air and into the fray where the fake enemies resided.
When she landed, Estelle was immediately surrounded by robots she intended to battle with and began using her abilities to take them down. Using fire to melt them down, water to whip them in half, air to rip them apart, and earth to bury them beneath the ground. Estelle was fully aware that she could use metal bending to break them apart. But that was too easy, and Estelle likes a challenge.
Estelle became aware of the fact that within this world, you tend to only have one ability. Others could use two powers within the one quirk. She had found cases where powers had been created through the use of quirk marriage. Estelle spat out her drink in disgust when she read about it online one day.
Estelle's abilities consisted of the four essential elements - fire, air, water and earth. This also included sub-elements that she was still working on before she arrived in this world, such as metal bending and blood bending.
Due to this, Estelle thought it was best to limit her abilities to the four powers she used the most and could be linked as one quirk. If she were to use sub-elements, it would cause mass panic and confusion.
Therefore, she would call it the elemental quirk. 'It's a bit on the nose, but it'll do', she thought.
Estelle hadn't been counting her points. She probably should have been checking so she would know when to slow down, but it was too late for that. Still, the robots kept coming. It was likely that they would filter them in quicker if they were destroyed faster in case a group dominated the field.
Slash. Earth. Cut. Duck. Blaze. Fire. Water. Duck. Block. Air. Cut.
Estelle was back into her warrior mode, completely forgetting the exam and destroying everything in her path in raging excitement. It had been the longest time for her since she last fought that she spent her time thoroughly enjoying the battle before her.
The examiners watched in astonishment at their screens. This girl, who arrived out of nowhere, was now tearing into the robots with fervour and ease. The excited gleam in her eyes was evident while she navigated the battlefield as if she was born for it. She whizzed around as she fought with skilled precision with her quirk like she had done this a million times before.
EraserHead stood stock still in disbelief that the girl passed out when they first met was the same one ruining the scores for anybody within the group. His brows raised up further when Estelle raised her hand to save another from falling with a small air tornado and safely brought them to the ground.
Just who was this girl?
The heroes looked at each other in question and amazement at what they were seeing. This girl was majestic in the way she fought. There was no doubt about it. But how was that possible?
The mouse sitting at the front shivered with excitement mirroring the girl they were all transfixed on. He couldn't wait to know more about her; he could just tell there was more than meets the eye.
The exam bell rang, causing Estelle to force herself to a stop. The other examinees within the group also saw how she fought and stared in wonder at the girl who held so much power. Estelle turned and walked away with her head held high and her heart full.
'That was fun.'
