Hidden Warnings
Estelle worked on hero duties most of the day when she decided to head back to Height's Alliance. Storming up the stairs for some alone time, she could hear the faint voices of the students behind her as they voiced their greetings.
Hoping to sleep the rest of the day away, Estelle recognised that she was highly annoyed with the civilians and new's reporters. They were beginning to get more aggressive towards her when she was seen in public. They demanded answers that she could not give, and quite frankly, wouldn't if she could.
She did not appreciate their side comments about her and her world, but she knew that she would need to suck it up if she was going to complete her mission. There was no other choice for her. It's not like they hurt her in a personal and emotional way, but it was exhausting having to navigate the public as she just tried to do her fucking job.
"Hey, Estelle!"
She could hear their grumbles of curiosity and concern as she stomped her way upstairs. Collapsing onto her bed, Estelle stared at the ceiling. Her heart sank when her moment of reprieve was halted by a phone ringing; Estelle didn't look at the screen when she answered.
"Hey, kitten."
"Oh, it's you. What do you want?" Estelle grumbled.
"I was expecting to hear you a little more happy than that! We haven't trained in a while; I wanted to check up on you."
"We still text."
"One-word responses isn't enough, Estelle." Shinsou reprimanded, clear disapproval in his voice.
Rolling her eyes, Estelle muttered, "I've kept you updated, have I not? It's been busy."
"I know. I saw what happened with Endeavour. Anyways, that's not why I'm calling you. I'm outside your dorms."
"Hah? What? Why?" Estelle voiced as she shot up from the bed.
"Can you just let me in?"
Sighing in despair, Estelle asked for a minute to change before going down. Shinsou agreed with her request and hung up the phone to do just that. Strolling back downstairs to the entrance, Estelle continued to ignore the classmates in the living room as she opened the door.
Not even giving Estelle a moment to focus her eyesight on the male, she was enveloped in a deep hug from Shinsou. Raising her hands awkwardly, Estelle eventually gave up again before patting his back a few times. Finally letting go, Shinsou leaned forward with a small smile.
"It's good to see you again."
Rolling her eyes, Estelle raised her hand to point to the living room. "Yeah yeah, do you wanna tell me what made you come all the way here?"
Blushing slightly, Shinsou rubbed the back of his neck as he monotoned, "I just wanted to check up on you after everything that's happened. Unfortunately, I can't trust a word you say, so I had to see for myself."
Sputtering in disagreement, Estelle failed to voice a word as Shinsou lifted his hand and placed it on her chin to tilt her head to the side. Giving a light tut and a shake of his head, Estelle inwardly scowled at the look on his face.
"Hm, turns out I was right."
Sighing from mental exhaustion, Estelle turned her head away from the male to avoid his knowing eyes. The class's curious and wonderstruck expressions stared back at her as they watched the scene. The students tried to understand how Shinsou seemed so close to Estelle without knowing her as much.
"Well, you've seen that I'm fine. Off you trot."
"Psh, hell no. You got snacks?"
Scowling, Estelle glared at Ashido, who raised her hand and offered some of her food to the floofy haired male. Her glower only deepened when Shinsou sat on the couch, his hand raised to pull her down next to him. Too surprised to turn him down, Estelle flopped at his side with her eyes death staring at his soul. Inwardly wincing at Estelle's look, Shinsou offered a silent apology with his smile.
"So, how are you both such good friends!?" Ochako asked jovially.
"We aren't friends."
"At the sports festival-"
"Shinsou-"
"Blah blah," the purple-haired male continued, taking Estelle's warning with a pinch of salt.
Shaking her head in brief defeat, Estelle felt a dip on the couch next to her. Raising her head to face the new arrival, Estelle found ruby eyes staring down at her. Feeling slightly uncomfortable being smushed between two males, Estelle was relieved that Bakugo had a heated plate in his hands. Shoving the dish in Estelle's grasp, the blonde muttered, "You need to eat. So do it."
Grumbling, Estelle put the plate on the table and slanted over to eat. She didn't see the glare between the two behind her.
The class noted it.
"Have you eaten, Shinsou?" Izuku asked as he watched the male eye Estelle's plate of food.
"No."
"Maybe Bakugo could heat some food up!" Kaminari yelled out.
"Hell no, he can make his own damn food!" Ruby barked back.
Estelle enjoyed her food in peace, ignoring the back and forth around her. Her light hum of joy could be heard as she continued to shuffle food into her mouth.
"So, why make it for Kitten here?"
"Tch. Because the shitty girl can barely take care of herself."
Affronted, Estelle turned her gaze to Bakugo in annoyance. Her light glare could be seen as her hand continued to feed herself. Her eyes grew more assertive as Shinsou chuckled back to the blonde with a hum of agreement.
"Assholes."
Before they could even blink, Bakugo faced a fork, and Shinsou neck was millimetres away from her knife. "I'll stab you both," Estelle muttered.
Raising their hands to the girl, they both chuckled as a spoon raised into the air with her abilities. The students watched as she started spoon-feeding herself since her hands were occupied with her weapons of choice.
Humour rang out of the room as they all viewed the scene in front of them; small grins on their faces as they watched Estelle put the two males in their places. Accepting their defeat, Estelle moved back to continue feasting. Her eyes were still laced with spirit as she focused back on her meal.
"You always know how to impress, kitten," Shinsou retorted with a smirk as he ignored the glare from the other male.
Shrugging off his words, Estelle changed the conversation to her original question. "There must be a reason you visited. Out with it."
"Hm, I can never get anything past you."
"Of course, you can't. So?" Estelle prodded.
"Do you mind if I say it here?" Shinsou muttered a little quieter, his eyes flicking up the curious students around the room.
Perplexed, Estelle mutely nodded, unsure why he would even need to ask. She observed as the male dug into his pockets only to take out a piece of thick paper. "Open it", Shinsou muttered as he handed the parchment to her. Still perplexed, Estelle slowly opened up the folds.
"Oh," she muttered once her eyes scanned the drawing.
"Yeah, I remembered you talking about symbols and art; how they have hidden meanings. This showed up at my window last night.
"Why didn't you call me straight away?"
"I didn't want to seem paranoid, especially if I was wrong," Shinsou muttered back bashfully, his hand rubbing the back of his neck.
Standing up, Estelle ignored people's curious eyes as she nodded towards the exit, silently asking Shinsou to follow.
Unfortunately, before she could take a step. Estelle's hand was held back, which stopped her movement. She could immediately tell it was Bakugo's by the sweatiness of his palm. Turning her head back to face him, the blonde glared at the paper in her hand with a scowl.
Before the blonde could even blink, her right hand automatically stopped his, which was quickly reaching for the folded piece of paper. Holding his head back by the hair with her right hand, Estelle and Bakugo shared a deep glare as she forced his head upwards to look into her eyes. Their glower continued as the other refused to back down. A profound warning showed in Estelle's eyes as she forced his head up, a frown on her lips as she felt disappointment in her bones from his abrupt action.
Frowning, Estelle eventually let go with a sigh and straightened back up. Her glare was still on her face as she muttered, "You could have just asked, asshole."
Grumbling, Bakugo kept the scowl on his face as the class watched the exchange with surprise. Why wasn't he blowing up at her? Before they could continue their thoughts, Bakugo asked, "Well, what is it?"
Shaking her head, Estelle held up the paper for all to see. Their brows furrowed in confusion as they viewed the art on the sheet. Why was she acting like this drawing was in any way significant?
Seeing the looks on their faces, Estelle shook her head once again. "And you wonder why I didn't show it? My world loves symbolism. It isn't the drawing itself; it's the meaning behind it."
"Oh! Like the one on the blackboard in Mr Aizawa's class!" Ashido yelled out in understanding. Estelle flickered her eyes to the girl with suspicion; how did she know that?
"Yes."
"So, what does it mean?"
Estelle sat down with a sigh and felt the dip next to her, indicating that Shinsou had followed. Gazing at the art, Estelle viewed the intricacies of the drawing that looked printed out. She knew it wasn't; Someone had spent a lot of time on this.
"This one is a bit different; it has a story behind it."
"A story about a dragon?"
Estelle nodded in agreement, looking at the horned dragon drawing with a keen eye. She recognised it, and she wasn't happy about it.
"The legend was about a tribe of light spirit dragons residing in the south. They were a pretty peaceful bunch, like all light spirits. But, one day, the leader had mysteriously disappeared. After many years of searching, the dragons could not find their ruler and begrudgingly appointed a new one.
His name was Aite, a fire dragon. He was rougher around the edges than ordinary light spirits, but they figured he was strong enough to oppose dark forces when the time came. Unfortunately, they were wrong.
Years passed, and Aite ruled the clan with an iron fist. He was ruthless against dark spirits, and they eventually cast him out when they realised he was also opposing the innocent.
Aite grew resentful; he hated them for their choice. He wanted the pride to be robust and strong, and they discarded him for that. With his increasing darkened heart, he started changing."
"What do you mean?"
"He became a dark spirit."
"Is that even possible?"
"We don't know how spirits came to be. But, they reflect their heart's. In theory, yes."
"What happened next?"
"With his newfound power, Aite became incredibly strong. He had immense power of dark spirit magic, and he was even more dangerous as he somehow kept his sanity in the process. He wasn't like the rest of them; he was intelligent, cunning and completely ruthless.
Now a dark spirit himself, Aite gathered his kind in flocks, building an army to take over the ruling he had once lost; but this time, he decided he deserved everything."
"Tch, what an asshole."
Snorting, Estelle continued, "The light, fully aware of the brewing plans - raised their own army. Cambion's. Because of their peaceful nature, they relied on our kind for support. They could fight, but most of them weren't as strong.
Aite and his army ravaged the lands, humans and spirit. He did manage to take revenge on his tribe; Only a few dragons survived. They won't reform for a long time.
The Cambion's fought them back with a leader at the forefront. A long battle waged on, and finally - the light won. Unfortunately, it was at a cost.
Aite was too strong for them. The only way for them to win was by putting him into a temporary slumber, but the cost was the leader's life force. The resulting aftermath of the war led to the two planes, human and spirit, hating each other. Because of this, a barrier was raised to keep both sides separated forever.
The legend used to say that Aite would wake up one day to fight to rule once again. And this time, he wouldn't back down."
"Woah."
"So what does this mean? Why would you get this as a symbol? Does this mean Aite is back again?"
Estelle shook her head, "No, I think it's more convoluted than that. Aite cannot be back."
"How can you be so sure?!"
Estelle gave the class a small but knowing smile; they had gotten so invested in the story. "Because it wasn't a legend."
"Hah? The hell do you mean?!" Bakugo shouted in confusion.
"Aite already woke up, and I defeated him. He was my enemy in the war."
Everyone sat stunned, disbelieving of the words that had just left Estelle's mouth.
"What?!" Hagakure yelled out, laying on the ground as if someone had shot her.
Estelle shook her head, finding the whole situation comical to watch.
"I thought you were going to say that you were the leader, but it didn't make sense because then you would have been dead", Kaminari inputted idiotically.
Estelle let out a laugh and gave the group around her a small smile. She was somewhat soothed by the fact they weren't jumping for more information but just respecting what she said and just going with it. Another wave of fondness flowed out towards her classmates. Her smile was still on her lips as the class talked over each other in excitement about the story Estelle had just voiced.
Feeling a hand holding her own slowly, as if warning her of the action. Estelle's dark eyes met with soft rubies. Feeling a strange flip in her stomach, Estelle let out a gentle smile of her own in response. The moment was cut short by a short cough to her side; moving her head to face Shinsou, he awkwardly spoke up. "So, what do you think it means?"
Thinking deeply about his question, her smile slowly slipped from her face as the class quietened around her. "I'm not sure. It's not a simple one. It's almost as if someone wants me to know they're there, but they don't want to give enough details to accidentally reveal themselves. What better way to do that than give a vague symbol of my past that not many know about?"
Her observations slowly sobered the class up, which caused Estelle to wince. She probably should have waited to discuss this further. Hoping to lighten the mood, Estelle grunted, "Doesn't matter though; I'll still kick their ass."
Bursting out into laughter, Estelle slowly grinned at the students, the heavy load on her shoulders lifting for the moment.
"You sound like you're spending too much time with Bakugo!" Kirishima yelled out between his cackles.
"Tch, too right," The aggressive male grunted back with a grin.
"I never thought I'd hear you talk like that!" Kaminari joined in.
"Honestly, it's a vibe," Hagakure sassed.
