The Curse of the Wolf

It was finally that time of year again. A time that everybody including grumpy ghosts can enjoy. It was Halloween. But night time had not fallen just yet. The bell that ended school had just rung and Molly, Scratch, and Libby were on their way out talking about the holiday.

"So, Libby, did you finally pick a costume for Halloween?" Molly asked.

"Well, it took a while, but yes." Libby said. "I just finished making it yesterday. Tonight I shall be 'Lady Libby the turtle knight'. How about you, Molly?"

"I made mine too. I'm going as a werewolf this year." Molly said. "I'm always something like a princess, a bunny, or a ballerina. I was a sorceror once, but never anything that really fits the holiday."

"Ah the classic werewolf. I think I wore a costume like that once." Libby said. "Will you be joining us, Scratch?"

"I'm mostly gonna spend the night scaring people." Scratch said.

"Wait, you still scare people?" Molly asked.

"Why do you think I chose that after-life threatening job in the first place?" Scratch answered.

Then the snob known as Andrea came along passing envelopes to some of the kids including Molly and left as quickly without saying a word.

"Is this an invitation?" Molly opened the envelope and pulled out what was inside. "Sweet baby corn! It is!"

She read the invitation out loud.

Dear Molly McGee,
as my best friend, you are cordially invited
to my Halloween Costume Party. I'll have music,
food, and all the other good stuff. You may
bring one friend with you if you want. The party
starts at 9 o-clock at my house.
See you then.
Andrea Davenport

*Gasp!* "I love costume parties!" Molly said. "We should definitely go."

"I don't know, Molly." Libby said as she rubbed her arm. "I know Andrea got us all to help you and your family, but I still have issues with her."

"I gotta side with Libby." Scratch said. "Do we really wanna go to a party hosted by Andrea Davenport?"

"I hear you, but come on." Molly said. "It's just a costume party. The worst thing she'll probably do is brag about her own costume."

"I guess you're right." Libby said. "I'll come."

"Fine. But if she tries anything, I'm butting in." Scratch said.

"Then it's settled." Molly said. "Once we finish trick-or-treating, we're off to Andrea's!"

That night, Molly was in her room looking for something. Scratch came out of his doll house and chose to ask what was up.

"What are you looking for?"

"My costume! It's gone!" Molly answered. "I know I put it in here somewhere."

Then the door in the floor opened and up came Sharon with a look on her face that implied bad news.

"Molly, I think you put something in your laundry by mistake." she said, showing Molly her missing costume.

Unfortunately, it was multi-colored from all the clothes, shrunken from the dryer, and torn apart due to not being made sturdy enough.

"Noooo!" Molly said. "I worked so hard on this."

"I am so sorry, Molly." Sharon said.

Molly just sat on her bed holding what was left of her costume and Scratch patted her shoulder. Sharon gave her daughter a hug before leaving the room. Scratch then floated off to his dollhouse. But halfway there, something outside caught his eye. He went to the window and saw the full moon in all it's glory. Thus a solution was found.

"Oh, Molly." Scratch said. "How would you like to be a real werewolf instead?"

"Wait, as in a curse?" Molly asked with big hopeful eyes.

Scratch nodded.

*GASP!* "Do it! Do it! Do it!"

"Okay, one werewolf coming up."

Scratch stretched a little, then made himself and the room disturbingly haunting and cast his curse.

"TONIGHT UNDER THE FULL MOON OF HALLOWEEN, YOU, MOLLY MCGEE SHALL BECOME HALF HUMAN AND HALF WOLF!"

Scratch and the room changed back afterwards. Molly rushed to the mirror to see herself change. At first she looked the same and was confused by it. Then her feet felt funny. She looked down and saw her socks being torn by toe claws. The rest of her legs slowly became covered with brown fur, restoring Molly's excitement. When she looked back at the mirror, her ears transformed next. They were even able to move up and down. As she smiled, she noticed her teeth change next with delight. Then a spot above her butt felt funny like it was getting longer. She turned around to look at her back's reflection just before she heard a rip sound. Out from under her skirt came a long furry tail. Her fingers felt odd next and when she looked at them, they were growing claws. After that her entire arms became furry. She turned back around just in time to see the rest of her visible skin grow fur. And lastly her face stretched out to give her the mouth of a wolf and her nose turned black and wet. Molly was now an actual werewolf.

"I...look...amazing!" she screamed before hugging her ghostly best friend as her tail wagged with excitement. "Thank you, Scratch!"

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. Don't get all mushy." Scratch said.

And that's when the doorbell rang.

"That's gotta be Libby." Molly said. "She's gonna be so surprised when she finds out I'm a real werewolf."

She grabbed her candy bag, left her room, and rushed down the stairs to the front door with Scratch close behind. Pete had already opened the door and was giving Libby some candy. Her knight costume was actually made mostly of taped together metal with a turtle symbol on her chest-plate and a sheathed sword on her side.

"Hi, Libby. Great costume." Molly said.

"Thanks. I used a bunch of metal pieces I found in the trash." Libby said. "Yours is good too."

"Glad you like it. Hey, Dad, where's Darryl?"

"He already left with his friend Otto." Pete said. "Hopefully he won't teepee any houses this time."

Sharon then came into the room from the kitchen.

"Hello, Mrs. McGee." Libby said.

"Hello, Libby. I hope you and Molly have a..." then it dawned on Sharon. "Wait, Molly!? How did you..."

"Oh, look at the time. Gotta get all that candy before everyone runs out. Byyye." Molly pushed out the and Scratch followed, closing said door in case her parents wouldn't allow it.

"Why do you look so confused?" Pete asked.

"Molly's costume was ruined earlier today." Sharon said. "Scratch must've made her a real werewolf."

Pete was shocked for a moment. Then he said "Oh well. Better her than Darryl."

Molly, Libby, and Scratch were heading down the street, looking for the first house they can hit.

"Where did you get that costume, Molly?" Libby asked. "It looks so real."

"Funny you should say that." Molly said with a smirk.

Libby was at first confused. Then she noticed Scratch snickering as well as Molly's tail wag. She gasped and pulled on Molly's face to confirm her thought. Molly didn't mind the face pull.

"You didn't?" Libby asked in shock.

"I did." Molly answered with a sheepish grin.

"Molly! Why would you do something like that!?"

"Because the costume I was going to wear was accidentally ruined in the wash." Molly explained. "This was actually Scratch's idea."

"But what if you bite someone, even by accident?"

"I never said anything about biting." Scratch chimed in. "Therefore it's not contagious. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some scaring to do. And maybe something else. Heh-heh-hehhhhh."

Molly knew what Scratch meant by the look on his face.

"Oh no you don't!" she grabbed Scratch by the bottom just before he could take off. "We've been through this already, Scratch. I promised you half of my candy when we get home, so no stealing."

"Ah, you're no fun. But fine." Scratch responded before he flew off and left the girls alone.

"How'd you get him to agree to that?" Libby asked.

"It wasn't easy." Molly replied.

Shortly afterwards, they approached the first house and knocked. A friendly man opened the door with a bowl of candy in his hand.

"Trick or treat." the girls said.

As one would expect, the man gave them each some candy. Molly and Libby thanked him and left for the next house.

"This is going to be the best Halloween ever!" Molly cheered.

Libby then gasped for some reason.

"What?" Molly asked.

"Your leg changed back." Libby said.

Molly looked down and saw her right leg without any fur. She then looked up at the sky and saw a cloud starting to cover the moon.

"Oh no! I forgot about the moon part!" she said as her left arm changed back.

"Quick! Hide!" Libby said. "Somebody's coming!"

Molly ran into an alley way and hid behind some trash cans just in time for a bunch of kids to pass by unaware of her. By the time those kids were out of sight, the moon was completely blocked by the cloud.

"You can come out now, Molly." Libby said.

Molly came out and was human again.

"Scratch and I obviously didn't think this through." she said.

"Do you think maybe we should cut this short?" Libby asked with concern.

"What? No way." Molly denied. "The sky's going to be mostly clear tonight according to the weatherman, so we don't have much to worry about."

At that moment, she felt her tail return. She then looked at the sky and saw the cloud leaving the moon. In just a couple minutes, Molly had become a werewolf again.

"See? I can trick-or-treat again." Molly said as her tail wagged with joy. "*Sniff-sniff* I can smell all that candy too. AROOOOO!"

"Heheheheh. Oh okay, we'll keep getting candy." Libby said.

As they walked to the next house, Molly thought to herself "Should I be worried that I didn't howl on purpose?"

Later, a random woman was being stingy to some kids just because they thought she had some candy to give and she slammed her door shut. Then shortly afterwards, someone knocked. The woman opened the door to give whomever a good yelling, but saw a ghoulish nightmare roaring at her.

"AAAAAHHHH!" she screamed and passed out.

The very thing that frightened her returned to his true form which was Scratch the ghost.

"This is one of my best scare streaks yet." he chuckled. "And I don't even have a stupid council to worry about anymore."

Then he saw Molly and Libby and decided to reunite with them.

"Hey, gals. How's candy collecting?" he asked after floating to them.

"This is the biggest haul I've ever gotten." Molly said.

"Me too." Libby said.

"How sweet. Just like the candy that I can't wait to eat." Scratch said.

"Ah-ah-ah, Scratch. Control yourself." Molly said. "The candy will still be in the bag when we get home."

"Hey look." Libby pointed down the street. "It's your brother Darryl and his friend."

Molly and Scratch looked in the same direction and Darryl and Otto running and laughing at the same time. Darryl was dressed as Dr. Frankenstein and Otto was dressed as Igor. Molly and her friends were certain that the boys were running from their most recent prank victim, but decided to say hi anyway.

"Hi, Darryl. Hi, Otto." Molly waved.

Darryl and Otto stopped when they heard Molly and were surprised when they saw her "costume".

"Hey, Molly. Hey, Libby." Darryl said.

"Yo." Otto said.

"Hello." Libby said.

"Those costumes are wicked." Darryl said.

"Thank you." Molly said. "I like how you two went with a theme."

"Thanks. It was Otto's idea."

"I went with Igor since Darryl is usually the mastermind." Otto admitted.

"You mean like with whatever you just did?" Libby teased.

Scratch laughed at that.

"Very funny." Darryl responded. "Even if we did something, you can't prove it."

"Relax, Darryl." Molly said. "We're not interested in..." *Sniff-sniff*

She smelled something. For some reason, she followed the scent, leaving the others behind and confused.

"Molly?" Libby and Darryl said.

"Where are you going?" Scratch asked.

Molly didn't answer them, so they followed her instead. It didn't take long for her to reach the source of the smell as she stopped at the park where a little goat was sleeping in the middle of a field. She approached the goat as if she was in a trance. Molly lowered close to the ground on some unfamiliar instinct and...

*Snap-snap-snap* "Molly!" Libby shouted while snapping her fingers.

"Huh?" Molly snapped out of it.

"What was that?" Darryl asked.

"What the heck were you doing?" Scratch asked as well.

"I don't know. The moment I smelled something, it was like I was hypnotized and-*Gasp!* Totes!"

Molly hugged the sleeping goat like a teddy bear.

"Oh I could just eat you up!"

Her poor choice of words started to worry Scratch and Libby.

"Are you okay, Molly?" Libby asked with concern.

"Of course I am, Libby." Molly assured as she then scratched her ear with her foot. "Huh. I didn't know I could do that."

Darryl looked at Scratch and whispered "Did you do what I think you did?"

Scratch nodded.

"If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were a real werewolf." Otto said with a laugh.

"Uh, Molly. Are you sure you're alright?" Darryl asked.

"Don't worry. If I get sick or something, I'm not alone." Molly assured.

"Okay. We've got some more houses to hit anyway. Later."

"Okay, bye."

In a couple minutes, the boys were out of sight.

"So, should we head over to Andrea's now?" Libby asked. "I can't believe I just said that."

"It's pretty close to when we're supposed to arrive, so yes." Molly said.

"I still think this is a bad idea." Scratch commented.

Molly, Libby, and Scratch had arrived at the property of the Davenports and after showing the former's invitation to a bouncer, they entered the mansion. After leaving their candy next to the door and with a little help from a butler, they came to the living room where other costumed middle-schoolers were dancing to Halloween themed music.

"Molly! and libby." Andrea said from the crowd. "Glad you could make it."

"Well before this gets annoying, I'm gonna go find the party food." Scratch flew off, leaving the girls on their own.

Andrea approached Molly and Libby wearing a princess costume.

"Nice costume." Molly said.

"Why thank you." Andrea replied. "I was going to dress as a witch, but I wanted to wear something that really described me."

"No comment." Libby whispered.

"And I like your costumes too." Andrea said. "Even though one of them looks... home made. But let's not just stand here. This is a party."

She then danced away into the crowd of kids who were still dancing.

"Her comments were very rude, but she's right about one thing." Molly said. "Let's party! AROOOOOOOOOO!"

And party they did. There was dancing, eating, complimenting costumes, and more. At some point, Molly and Libby separated and did different things. Molly was on the dance floor when she smelled something again.

"Oops. Excuse me." a boy said while covering his butt.

To some it wasn't that bad, to others it was something to stay away from, and to Molly it smelled worse than a dozen skunks. She covered the lower half of her face and bent forward, almost falling to the floor. Molly felt like she was going to throw up. Another kid came over to check on her.

"You okay?"

"ROAR!" Molly over-reacted.

"Woah! I was just asking."

Molly got on all fours and ran through the crowd. Libby saw her odd behavior and due to running near the snack tables, so did Scratch. Molly went for one of the windows and tried to get through. Her fellow students were looking at her like she lost her mind. She turned around and started acting as shy as Libby used to be. Then before things could get worse, Scratch came and possessed her. He made Molly stand up and slap herself a few times. He then left her body and she shook her head like a wet dog.

"What? Huh?" Molly said.

Libby grabbed Molly's hand and dragged her out of the living room and into the hallway as Scratch followed them.

"I knew it!" Libby said. "You've been having trouble controlling your wolf instincts."

"I was hoping it wasn't something like that." Molly moped. "I should've admitted something was wrong sooner. I'm sorry."

"No, Moll, this is my fault." Scratch said. "I goofed up another curse."

"Don't be too hard on yourself. You cheered me up when my costume was ruined and just saved me from whatever happened back there." Molly argued. "I'm glad I have you for a best friend, Scratch."

"As much as I like this type of moment, we should probably leave now before it happens again." Libby suggested.

"Good idea. Let's go." Molly said.

The three of them headed to the front door to leave, but before they were even halfway there, someone called to one of them.

"Molly, wait." Andrea said.

They stopped with cringed faces, but Molly chose to respond.

"Yes, Andrea?"

"I heard you weren't yourself after someone farted. Eww by the way. Is everything alright?"

"Oh yeah. Everything's fine." Molly lied. "I was just too close to it, that's all."

Suddenly she felt her tail disappear. Libby and Scratch noticed it too. They knew at that moment that the moon was being blocked again.

"Say, Andrea, could you tell me about this picture?" Libby pointed to a portrait of some man to help out Molly.

"I'd love to." Andrea gladly focused on the new topic. "This is my Grandpa. He taught my Daddy how to be the businessman he is today just like what he's doing for me now."

Molly and Scratch snuck away to the front door and went to grab the candy bags. But alas, all of the candy bags were gone.

"Where's all the candy?" Molly said.

"You lost it all!?" Scratch shouted.

"No, it was here. Somebody must've taken it."

Then she felt her ears change back followed by bad timing.

"Molly?" Andrea called.

Molly quickly undid her ponytail and let her hair fall down, covering her ears.

"What is it?" she turned around with a nervous smile.

"Are you leaving already?" Andrea asked.

"Afraid so. I have a curfew after all. By the way, do you know what happened to all the candy bags?"

"Huh? No I don't. I'll check with the servants." Andrea went to find a servant.

Libby ran up to Molly and Scratch.

"Sorry. I kept her as busy as I could and it's hard to keep up with someone while covered with metal." she said. "Is the candy really gone?"

"See for yourself." Molly gestured to where the candy was.

At that moment, her right arm was next to change back.

"Quick! She's coming back!" Scratch said.

Molly faced Andrea with her arm behind her back.

"None of the servants know what happened." Andrea said.

"Then how do we find the candy?" Molly asked.

"Does it even matter? Most of us stopped trick-or-treating this year now that we're thirteen."

"What about the few who didn't?" Libby asked with her arms crossed.

While Andrea thought about it and looked at her phone, Molly felt her own legs change back and quickly hid behind Libby before she could see them.

"We really should go home now before we're grounded." she said.

"Y-Yes. Goodbye, Andrea. Let us know if you find our candy." Libby and Molly backed up to the door.

"Uh, okay?" Andrea said.

Molly opened the door just as her head changed back with Libby and Scratch close behind. Libby closed the door and all three of them went "Phew."

"That was too close." Scratch said.

"Hey look. Not all of me changed back." Molly said, holding up her furry left arm.

Then the last of the moon was blocked again and her arm joined the rest of her.

"Nevermind."

"But what about the candy?" Libby asked.

"I'm gonna go back in and find it." Scratch said with determination.

"Alright, but remember not to eat any of it." Molly reminded her ghost buddy while redoing her ponytail.

"I didn't forget. Sheesh." Scratch went back inside and the girls started walking away from the doors.

"You know, despite your risky curse, this is actually the best Halloween I've ever celebrated too." Libby said.

"I know, right?." Molly said. "I may have almost blown a big secret, but I had more fun this year than ever before."

"Good thing there wasn't a costume contest or you'd really be in trouble." Libby joked.

While they were laughing over what thankfully didn't happen, they heard something unexpected.

"Hey! Those aren't yours!"

"That was Darryl!" Molly rushed to the gate to see what was going on.

Libby followed her, but was once again slowed down by her armor. They both reached the gate and found Darryl and Otto tackling the bouncer who was trying to carry a bunch of bags. One of those bags dropped and some candy spilled out.

*Gasp!* "It was you!" Molly pointed. "You stole all the candy!"

"Halt, foul enemy!" Libby drew her sword as a bluff. "I have a weapon."

"Nice try, but it's Halloween." the bouncer said while still trying to shake the boys off.

"Don't just stand there! Use your phones!" Darryl shouted.

The bouncer then dropped all the bags and wrapped his arm around Darryl's throat. He then kicked Otto away, knocking him out.

"Alright, here's what's gonna happen." he said. "I'm gonna take all of this, you're gonna throw away your phones and walk away like nothing happened, and maybe I'll let this brat go."

Just as the bouncer finished his threat, Molly froze with a thousand mile stare. Someone was holding her brother hostage over nothing more than some bags of candy. Molly was slowly losing her temper at the same time the clouds were leaving the moon.

"Get..." her legs changed. "...away..." her ears changed and her tail came out. "...from..." her arms changed. "...my..." the rest of her changed. "BROTHER!"

Molly got on all fours and charged at the bouncer like a mad dog. The bouncer freaked out, dropped Darryl, and tried to run. Molly tackled him before he could get away. She started clawing at his face, but suddenly calmed down when she realized something was off. His face didn't feel like a face. Molly then pulled off his head which was really a mask.

"Hey, you're not a bouncer. You're just a greedy high-schooler."

The high-schooler pushed her off and ran for the mansion. All of the kids were confused when they saw him enter the living room in his panicky state. Then he turned and saw that Molly had already caught up with him.

"AAAAHHHH! Stay away from that girl!" he screamed. "She's a real werewolf!"

Everyone stared at Molly, then laughed at the high-schooler.

"And I suppose next you're going to say there's a ghost right next to her." Andrea joked.

Little did she know that Scratch was floating right next to Molly.

"Sorry I didn't come sooner." Scratch said. "But I did show up in time to see you let him have it. Way to go, Moll."

"This guy stole all of our candy, but it's just outside the gate." Molly said. "Andrea, you never had a bouncer, did you?"

"Why would we have one of those when we've got a security system?" Andrea then realized something and facepalmed herself. "Which I turned off so the guests could come in."

After some of the kids left to get what was rightfully theirs, Molly took a few steps toward the still frightened high-schooler and said "I'd leave and never steal again if I were you."

The high-schooler took her advice and scrammed.

"Now I really need to leave. Thanks for inviting me." Molly said as she and Scratch left again.

"Bye, Molly." Andrea said.

Molly and Scratch got outside past the gate and assisted Libby and Darryl in helping Otto. They then grabbed their own bags of candy and went home.

Scratch, Molly, and Darryl were all home in the living room, admiring the candy they collected.

"Yes! I got all the good candy bars, a couple popcorn balls, caramel apples, lots of candy corn, some peanut butter cups, a few lollipops-ooh! I even got some rock candy!" Molly said.

"Just remember half of that is mine." Scratch said.

"I still can't believe you were a real werewolf." Darryl said.

"Yeah, but it's only for tonight." Molly pointed out.

"Hey, Scratch. Any chance you could give me a curse like that some time?" Darryl asked.

"Ehhh, no." Scratch deadpanned. "After everything Molly went through tonight, you would make something worse happen."

"Dang."

Molly laughed a little while dividing her candy.

"Annnnd done." she said. "There's your half, Scratch. I'm gonna go upstairs with mine."

"Finally!" Scratch chowed down on his share.

Molly went up to her room and put her bag next to her bed. She then went to the window and opened it. She looked up at the night sky, admiring it's beauty as her tail wagged again. Since the curse was only temporary, she decided to stay awake and enjoy it for the time that remained starting with one particular action.

"AROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" this time she howled on purpose.

Author's Note: If there's any curse that should be in the show, it's this classic one. Now some of you might be thinking "That's one of the oldest curses in the book.", but guess what? So is bad luck, which they covered. The funny thing is I didn't plan to finish this chapter in this month. I was just doing what I could and I got lucky. I would've been done sooner, but I changed my mind about certain parts of the story. I do wonder though what the official Halloween episode of this show will be like. We all know it's gonna happen, but still. It'll definitely be way better than what I wrote. If I had to guess, then besides a werewolf curse, I'd say it would bring back Wraith-Molly and/or reveal a new ghost that out-scares all others in the show. I hope you all have a Happy Halloween. Next time, Molly will not be cursed.
