I started writing a story about Susan's great-grandchildren being brought to Narnia not long after the events of The Silver Chair. I've had the story in mind for a while, and a challenge was started to write a story in the Narnia universe, set in 2024. I hope to finish the story, but as the deadline for the challenge is approaching faster than the end of chapter 1, I realized the most important part of the story is the final few paragraphs...~~~~~~~~~ "Aslan," asked Sullivan, "hasn't Nan passed yet? We've been in Narnia an awfully long time." "Children, I will always send you to the time I need you. You will be a last reminder to someone who has long forgotten me." The Lion breathed on them one-by-one, and each felt something that forever changed them. The world swirled gold and green, melted away, and they found themselves on the plane, the attendants just starting their trolleys down the aisle. "Oh bother," said Fiona, "I still hate flying, even after everything."~~~~~~~ Susan opened her eyes when the nurse came into her room. "Hi, Dearie, the rest of your family is here to see you!" Because of her dementia, she didn't remember having seen any family for a long time. However, her mind became crystal clear in a moment, when two Sons of Adam and two Daughters of Eve from Narnia entered. As she hugged her great-grandchildren, a tear streamed down her face. "I'm sorry, Aslan. I've missed you so much. I'm ready to go home." As she lay back in bed, the picture of a lion above the window became a familiar figure. She stepped through into Narnia, wearing a crown, into the welcoming embrace of her brothers and sister.
