Epilogue
If Mercedes had known that forward meant her life shifting into total chaos before finally settling she would've told Sam no thanks that night but alas here she was pushing a stroller, six and half months pregnant again with him jogging ahead. Life had changed drastically after Sam saved her from Quinn's wrath and his mother's manipulation, one of the bigger changes was Sam quitting his job. He told the agency and his mother that he couldn't afford to keep that lifestyle with Mercedes being pregnant and quit on the spot.
She hated that he had to make that decision because she knew deep down he still loved it but also she couldn't think as only Mercedes anymore, she was carrying their child and that made both of their decisions from there on out even easier. Teaching was the best part of her life but she had the opportunity to be present with their child and took it. Had she known being alone with Sam for months on end would result in her being pregnant eight months after giving birth to their first she would've found some job to do but she didn't regret it.
Smiling down at their daughter, who just began to wake from her nap, she couldn't help thinking about how much she favored Sam's mother. Her sharp green eyes , tan skin and light curls was evidence of the love between Sam and her in human form but it was the soft freckles that danced across her little nose that reminded her of Mary. Since Sam quit and vowed to remove anything that would harm his family, Mary hadn't been in their lives.
Dwight frequently stopped by and called but Mary, having to keep away due to Sam's warning, had only seen pictures of their daughter from Dwight. Her parents however, visited almost daily as did her sister and Stevie and Stacey. It felt odd to Mercedes that no one questioned Sam's decision but she also understood that Mary was the reason she was even put in that situation.
"Hey, is she awake?" She heard and smiled when she saw Sam jogging in place in front of the stroller.
"Mhm, she just opened those little eyes of hers." Mercedes replied, pulling the cover down so he could see their daughter, Ivy Rose.
Sam smiled, lightly tapping her on her nose. "Hey there, did you have a good nap?"
Ivy scrunched her nose before yawning and reaching for him. Sam gladly picked her up and peppering her with kisses. "You're the reason why she refuses to sleep in her own bed." Mercedes quipped, loving see him in dad mode.
"Eh, she's safe in our room anyway."
Mercedes rolled her eyes. "Safer in our room yes, but there's a whole crib that's also in there."
Sam smirked. "Is it really about her sleeping in our bed or that you just want me in your bed?" He teased.
Pointing at her stomach. "Absolutely not, we sleep alone and boom, twins." She replied gently rubbing her stomach. "I more so mean she sleeps slideways and kicks me in the face."
Sam looked at their daughter. "You don't kick mommy, do you? No, you don't because you're a perfect little angel." He cooed and Ivy laughed.
"Bullets, assassins and kidnappers couldn't take you down but a baby could, who would've thought?"
Sam lifted Ivy towards Mercedes. "Look at this face, everyone can be taken down by her smile."
Mercedes smiled looking at their daughter, she really was perfect. "She's got you wrapped around her little finger. Here, let me feed her before she starts fussing."
Sam led them over to a bench before he handed her over to Mercedes. After making the bottle, Sam pulled out his phone and smiled. "So how are you feeling? Still think you are gonna pop early?"
Mercedes eyed him as she shifted Ivy in her arms. "I don't know…why?"
Sam shrugged. "No reason at all." He said putting his phone away.
Mercedes side eyed him as Ivy quietly drank. "Spill it Evans."
"It's no big deal. Mike, Stevie…and a few others and I have a bet that you will pop before Tina does."
Mercedes rolled her eyes. "I swear you two are always betting, you lost when you swore Ivy was a boy, and won when you swore I was carrying twins."
"Exactly, we keep trying so this will break it. Winner takes all." Sam's phone beeped again and Sam frowned.
"What's wrong?"
Sam sighed, he learned a long time ago to never keep things from Mercedes. "It's Stevie talking about Mary. It's fine."
Mercedes shifted Ivy. "Sam, between your dad and Stevie I know they respect us not wanting to be around her, but I also see that you still have to hear how much she misses you and wants to meet Ivy."
Sam sighed heavily. "I don't care. What she did, and to show no remorse, Mary isn't going to get her hands on the child she decided to risk. Had anything happened."
Mercedes reached out and took his hand in hers. "We have a pretty great life don't we?"
Sam nodded. "I think we do."
"Then let's continue not dwelling on the past, and prepare for our future. Like how are you gonna be able to handle three kids under three when these two are born, and I go back to work."
"Easy, you could just not go back to work, it's not like you need to." Sam smirked, he knew it wasn't going to fly but he liked trying, just to see her reactions.
Mercedes laughed. "Sam, I love this time with you and Ivy and knowing we have these two coming, but I love teaching. You can admit you are scared."
Sam laughed as he bent down and picked up Ivy, once she was done feeding.
Mercedes placed the burp cloth over his shoulder once he was seated and watched as he burped Ivy. She loved watching him with their daughter, the hardcore pain in the ass Agent she met for the first time in her classroom, didn't seem so hardass with baby drool running down his cheek.
Looking at his wife, he offered her a smile. "What is running through your pretty mind right now?"
"Just thinking about how all this started."
Sam laughed. "Oh you mean you hitting me with your bag and making me chase you down?"
Mercedes shrugged. "I was being attacked, what am I supposed to do?"
Sam leaned into her and kissed her as Ivy babbled on, wanting to be in on the conversation. Sam laughed. "Why yes my Angel, Mommy attacked daddy for no reason, while he was trying to save her."
"Sam!" Mercedes laughed. "Don't you go telling her that lie."
"She's your daughter, I am pretty sure she will get it when I tell her the story of how her father saved the day and protected her mother."
"You gonna tell her how he seduced her mother too?" Mercedes teased.
"Oh no we aren't doing that. She is not having sex til she's married. And even then it's just to give us grandkids, isn't that right, my angel."
Mercedes snorted, shaking her head. "Even the twins don't believe that, they are kicking up a storm."
"You two aren't doing it either, unless you are boys then more power to you," Sam said smiling.
Mercedes playfully shoved him. "Way to be misogynistic, if she can't then they can't. Fair is fair."
Sam chuckled. "Come on, I think Stacey's coming over to get Ivy for a few so we can go to your check up."
"I absolutely hate going to the doctors… this is the last one." Mercedes said, standing up. "Two is more than enough."
He smiled, placing Ivy into her stroller. "We'll just see about that. I want four, we can have twins next time."
She looked at him like he had two heads. "What makes you think twins are just going to magically appear?"
Sam laughed, pulling her close. "I was right about getting you pregnant both times and it happened when I said it would. So when I say next time will be twins, I mean it." He replied before kissing her and she had to force herself not to moan.
Pulling away, she rolled her eyes at his smug smirk. "Like I said, this is the last one!"
He shrugged, lightly smacking her on the ass. "I'll meet y'all at the truck, I'm going to finish my lap." He said before running off.
Mercedes smiled looking down at Ivy. "That's your daddy…we gotta be on our toes with him."
Ivy babbled and Mercedes laughed sitting her in the stroller. "I know, that's why we love him."
Mercedes smiled seeing Stacey tickling Ivy as she and Sam walked into the house. "How is my girl doing?"
Stacey smiled. "She is doing great, had a bath, and ate. Now we are just enjoying some Auntie/Niece time. How was the appointment?"
Mercedes beamed. "It was good, the babies are doing great, growing very fast. And your brother is an idiot." She teased.
Sam's jaw dropped. "In my defense, when she showed us the outline of the babies, it looked like they had two heads. Not my fault."
Stacey looked at them confused. "Okay I feel like I am missing something."
Mercedes laughed. "The babies were so close together that it looked to your brother like they were conjoined and he decided to ask the doctor all sorts of questions."
"All I did was show I was a concerned father. Anyways they want her to take it easy as she will pop any day now." Sam said softly.
Stacey nodded. "Well then you need to make sure you relax. And I guess I should warn you that mom is desperately trying to convince Stevie and I to have you talk to her."
Sam shook his head. "No. I told you, Stevie and Dad that you three can be here but the moment you let the women in here, then you are out. She made her choice and I made mine."
Stacy sighed. "Sam I-"
"Stace I love you, and having you so close, it's been so much fun, and you've been such a great help. But this is something I will not budge on. Because of her I could have lost Mercedes…Ivy…the answer is no. Mary Evans chose her career over her family. I am choosing my family. Can you respect that or not?"
Stacey nodded. "Yeah, I can."
Mercedes leaned into Sam, knowing the thought of losing them still haunted him. She wasn't fond of Mary Evans either, but had Sam wanted to forgive her, she would have tried too, because she loved him that much.
Her life had definitely changed in the last few years, and she was excited about what her future held with Sam and the babies.
After saying goodnight to Stacey, Mercedes and Ivy made her way into the room, laying on the bed. She knew had she put Ivy to bed, Sam was just going to grab her and bring her to bed.
After locking up the house, Sam walked to the room and smiled, seeing his girl's on the bed. It was everything he had wanted in life. Crawling into the bed, he kissed Mercedes forehead, then kissed Ivy's. His hand wrapped around her, resting on her stomach.
"How are my girl's feeling?"
Mercedes looked to Ivy then to Sam. "I think we are doing pretty good. How are you feeling daddy?"
"Nervous, once these two come, we will be outnumbered, it's why we need to get this one on our side! She will help lead the troops."
Mercedes giggled. "I swear you keep talking like we are gonna have a whole basketball team."
"Just you wait." Sam winked. After a few moments of blissful silence Sam lifted his head to meet her eyes."Who would've thought that fiery woman I had to kidnap would be my wife and the mother of my kids?"
She giggled. "Well according to you Mr. Know-it-all, you had this planned out."
"I knew you would be mine. I just didn't know in what capacity… but I'm happy you said yes."
"Yeah… me too." She said, turning so that Ivy was in between them. "Can you believe she's gonna be a big sister soon?
Sam let out a sigh. "Are you sure we are doing the right thing not finding out what we are having?" he asked. "I mean she does have the right to know."
"It's killing you isn't it?" She asked, giving him a knowing smile.
"I am just saying, are we sure that was a foot we saw?"
Mercedes snorted. "Stop! No baby has a thing that big Sam!"
"Are we sure? He is my son." Sam teased back.
Mercedes chewed her bottom lip looking at him. "Well…there is an envelope in my purse, for if we just can't wait. You can get it any time."
Sam looked at her for a long moment and leaned in to kiss her softly. "We will find out tomorrow. Tonight, let's just keep talking like this about our future. It's pretty damn bright isn't it?"
Mercedes laid back with a smile. "Yeah, it really is."
