Author's Note: Hey there, guys! Welcome back to yet another episode of Total Danganronpa! This is a non-elimination episode, so nobody's getting voted off, but I can promise you that there will be lots of shenanigans going on.
But, first, reviews:
siramay: I think you're thinking of "Are We There Yeti?", the episode after this. This episode is where they're stranded on a deserted island.
Dunsparce519: Haha, I'm glad I shocked you then.
Onto the chapter! I hope you enjoy!
"Last time on Total Drama Island... In a special episode, we visited the kicked-off campers at their resort of rejects, Playa de Losers. We learned that Leon and Sayaka, as well as Kaede and Kaito are still going strong, Ibuki is still chaotic, and Hiro is still Hiro. In a shocking twist, we let the losers vote off one of the Final Five, and in an even more shocking twist, it was Hiyoko who found herself in Loserville—population: eighteen!"
The camera cut to Chris at the docks, as always. "With only four campers left, it's still anybody's game! Stay tuned for another thrilling episode of...
Total...
Drama...
Island!"
Episode Twenty-Two: Camp Castaways
The episode opened with a massive downpour on the island, with Chris standing on the Dock of Shame with an umbrella and a smile.
"Welcome back to Total Drama Island," he greeted. "This week, we've prepared a bizarre episode full of surprises. For instance, take this weather. Rain is not an easy thing to control, let me tell you. But we figured the remaining four campers were getting off way too easy. So we pulled some strings and, viola!"
A bolt of lightning suddenly struck down in front of Chris, causing him to yelp and jump back.
Meanwhile, the Final Four were lounging around on the steps of their cottages, using the arched roofs as cover from the rain. Maki threw the pebbles she found on the steps into the puddles the rain had formed, Rantaro whittled a block of wood with a pocket knife while humming, while Celestia and Junko sat on Junko's cottage, who looked a bit worse for wear.
"Listen up, campers!" Chris announced from the monitors. "One of the most grueling challenges of any summer camp experience is the dreaded rain day, where all activities with even the remotest possibility of fun are cancelled in favor of the craft tent. The forecast for tomorrow? Rain, rain, and more rain, followed by, rain!"
"Junko." Celestia nudged her with her arm. "We should start discussing what our plan will be, now that there are only four of us left."
Junko groaned, putting her head in her hands. "Can't it wait till later? I'm kinda out of it right now."
Celestia paused. "Does it happen to be related to Hiyoko?" she finally asked.
Junko sat up, leveling her with a glare. "Seriously? Have you been paying attention since, oh, I don't know, the merge?"
"Apologies," Celestia said rather quickly, "I suppose I should have paid attention more."
Junko ran a hand through her hair, abruptly standing up. "I'm going... somewhere."
CONFESSIONAL - CELESTIA:
"Truly, I did not mean to offend Junko," she said. "If she wants to waste her time making friends with these cretins, then that is her problem alone. However, we need to stay focused on the most important goal above all: winning."
CONFESSIONAL - JUNKO:
"Ugh!" She pulled on her ponytail. "Why does everything seem so more annoying now that Hiyoko's gone?!" She sighed. "I really don't want to go back there..." She glanced around the confessional. "Maybe I'll just hole up here for the night..."
The other three campers decided to take shelter at this point, retreating into their respective cottages for the night.
But the rain did not stop. It kept pouring and pouring and pouring until it was morning and a severe flood took over. Several things also got swept up in it, including a wooden chair, Chef's motorcycle, and a family of raccoons perched on a log.
Eventually, it cleared, and Chef rang a cowbell out in front of the restaurant as Chris pulled up in his ATV.
"Hey, Chef," he said. "You seen the campers?"
"No," Chef replied, holding up a bucket of rotten and peeled potatoes. "And I peeled a whole bag of rotten spuds!"
Chris scratched his head. "Huh, I can't find them, either. Come to think of it, I can't even find their cottages!"
Sure enough, the space where the cottages were supposed to be were completely barren, with only puddles taking their place.
In another area where it was still flooded, the cottages were completely at the mercy of the water.
Two beds, carrying Maki and Rantaro respectively, floated by a cottage that Celestia stepped out of, yawning and immediately plunging into the water below. Her screams startled Rantaro, who rolled out of his bed and into the water as well. Maki awoke, too, and she fell in afterwards.
"What is going on?!" Celestia demanded.
"How should I know?!" Maki shot back.
"Where are we...?" Rantaro asked no one in particular. "We didn't get drifted off to the middle of the ocean, did we?"
"I am more concerned with—" Celestia paused and gawked at a shark fin that swam by before continuing with, "—getting to dry land!"
All three of them scrambled out of the water and onto the steps of Celestia's cottage, watching helplessly as the shark took a bite out of a nearby chair.
"I hope Junko made it through this," Rantaro said.
CONFESSIONAL - JUNKO:
She laid on the confessional seat, fast asleep. She was soon shaken awake by the shaking of the booth, and she exited the confessional—
—only to realize that she was surrounded by miles of water.
"And of course I'm stranded," she muttered to herself, "because I can't ever get a break on this damn show."
"Well," Maki after the three made it to shore, "that happened."
"Wait..." Rantaro's brows furrowed as he examined their surroundings. "I don't think we're at camp."
Maki looked around as well. "I... think you're right."
"I would agree with you, if this were not clearly one of our favorite host's high-quality sets," Celestia scowled, kicking the nearest rock and stubbing her toe.
CONFESSIONAL - CHRIS:
"Just to set the record straight," he scowled, "my sets are not low-quality! I lost three interns trying to move those rocks into place! And about that search party? Nuh-uh. Those campers are on their own."
"I guess that means Craft Day is cancelled," Chris told Chef with a cross look. He shrugged. "Anyways, let's eat!"
"You actually wanna eat this slop?" Chef stared in horror.
Chris scoffed. "Yeah, right. I meant the buffet back at our camp."
"Cool." Chef chuckled and lightly pushed Chris' chest, who laughed and pushed Chef back. Chef narrowed his eyes at this and shoved Chris so hard he fell.
"So," Maki said, looking out over the water, "what are we going to do?"
"I think we should take the initiative and try to make our way back to the main island," Rantaro suggested. "They probably don't know where we ended up."
Maki looked over at him, raising a brow. "Really? I wouldn't put it past them to have hidden cameras somewhere—assuming we're still on Jabberwock Island."
"Which is why I think we should build a raft and try to find somebody."
"I highly doubt we're lost," Celestia interjected. "This is clearly yet another one of Chris' sadistic challenges."
"Oh, right," Maki responded dryly, "I'm sure Chris used his magical host powers to flood the island. That makes sense."
Celestia scoffed. "Do you hear me, Chris? I will find a way to win this challenge."
CONFESSIONAL - CHRIS:
"Ooh," he mocked, "I'm so scared!"
Maki and Rantaro peeked their heads out from behind a bush, Maki's brows raising when their gazes landed on a large treehouse.
"Nice," Rantaro said, and the two approached it.
CONFESSIONAL - JUNKO:
"Okay..." She let out a breath. "This is no big deal. I'll just wait until this thing hits—" The confessional suddenly jolted, and she gasped. "Please let that be land!"
Junko poked her head out of the confessional, gasping even louder when she saw the shore in front of her.
"Finally!" she cried, running out. "I gotta find the others, and—" She skidded to a stop upon spotting a dinosaur head twice the size of herself and yelped.
CONFESSIONAL - CHRIS:
"The T-Rex skull was my idea," he explained, laughing. "Did you see the look on her face?! That was worth every intern!"
Junko slapped her face. "Okay! You gotta calm down. You're just hungry, so you need to eat. Uh..." She glanced around, then looked up at the abundant palm trees lining the shore. "Score! Coconuts!"
She easily climbed up one of the trees and snatched one of the coconuts. Once on the ground, she prepared to crack it, a second coconut fell on her head.
"Ow!" Junko glared at the offending coconut, and her expression morphed into an amused grin. "Hey, this coconut kinda looks like Hiyoko. Cool."
Indeed, the leaves of the coconut looked like Hiyoko's pigtails, though notably more spiky.
"Finally realized that this is all a challenge?" Celestia asked, noticing Maki and Rantaro standing on the treehouse's porch.
"Nope, just scoping out the area and seeing what we can do," Rantaro answered before looking back at Maki, who was about to open the door. "Be careful."
Maki nodded, deciding to open it a bit more slowly. This worked in her favor, as the skeleton waiting for them dropped down slower than it would have. She poked at it.
"It's a prop," she said.
Rantaro sweatdropped. "Not gonna question how you'd know that, but yeah, that's pretty odd, actually. We might still on Jabberwock, if that's really a prop."
"Let's keep looking," Maki decided, easily picking up the skeleton and heaving it off the treehouse, and the duo entered the treehouse.
"Okay, time to think of a game plan," Junko said to coconut Hiyoko.
Before she could react, an arrow suddenly pierced the coconut, and Junko yelped (again), snapping her head in the direction it came from, and all she could see was forest. Collecting herself, she realized something.
"Wait... Is there somebody else here?"
She looked back at the shore, then back again at the forest. She glanced down at coconut Hiyoko. "Alright, I'm goin' in!" she finally decided.
Still holding onto the coconut, Junko yelled and charged into the forest. She quickly reached the other side, only to be met with the confused trio of Maki, Rantaro, and Celestia, all staring at her in disbelief.
"Huh. That was easier than I thought," Junko said to the coconut.
CONFESSIONAL - JUNKO:
"Thanks, Hiyoko," she told the coconut. "We make a good team."
Maki gave her a look. "...Are you talking to that coconut?"
"No," Junko immediately replied, tossing said coconut aside. "So... What happened? Why are we not at camp?"
"Flood," Rantaro said.
"And a possible challenge," Celestia added.
Maki rolled her eyes. "This isn't a challenge. We are stranded on a deserted island."
"The raft is still an option," Rantaro added.
"Uh..." Junko scratched her head, seemingly at a loss for words.
"Perhaps it would be a good idea to split up," Celestia suggested. "Maki and Rantaro could build a raft and swim off to see if they can find someone. Junko and I can stay here and set up camp."
"About that..." Junko just barely made eye contact with her, fake-coughing. "Celes? Can I talk to you real quick? It's important."
Celestia looked surprised by her question, but nodded anyway. "Of course."
The girls stepped off to the side, behind a bunch of shrubs, and Celestia spoke again. "I presume you have some sort of plan?"
Junko shook her head. "Actually, I need to tell you... I think we should break our alliance."
Celeste's smile immediately faltered. "...Pardon?"
"I-I just think it would be better for the both of us if we went our separate ways," Junko explained, growing uncharacteristically nervous. "I'm feeling kinda out of it in general, anyways."
"What about the game?" Celestia countered. "If we were to break our alliance now, the other two might be able to boot us off."
Junko pressed her lips into a hard line. "Is that all that matters to you?! Just the game?! What about literally anything else?!" She didn't even give Celestia the chance to respond, as she immediately followed up with, "You know what? Don't bother. I already know what you're gonna say."
Huffing, Junko turned on her heel and rejoined the other two. Celestia stepped out a few seconds later, fuming, much to Maki and Rantaro's confusion.
"What happened—" Rantaro started, but a loud and deep noise beat him to it, shaking the entire ground.
The sound was revealed to be coming from Chef blowing into a conch shell.
"Brunch is served," he announced.
"Ah, bunch," Chris sighed contentedly at the food laid out on the table before him. "Such a civilized meal, don't you think? You've already digested your breakie, but you're not quite ready for lunch."
His face lit up at a bowl of sauce, swiping a glob of it and tasting it. "You've outdone yourself, Chef."
Chef blew the conch again, and Junko put her hands up in defense.
"Okay, let's just put any personal matters aside for now. Whether or not this is actually a challenge, I think we can at least agree we should do something. We need a plan."
"Well, you aren't wrong," Maki said, and Rantaro nodded.
She stretched her arms out. "Group huddle!" She looked over at a scowling Celestia. "You too, Celes."
After getting a begrudging Celestia joined them, they all huddled together, and Junko put her arms around them.
"Alright! Now that everybody's here..."
Before she could finish her sentence, a large, purple snake dropped down on them, and their eyes widened in horror.
"I meant every human!" Junko clarified, and the four bolted up to the safety of the treehouse.
Back with Chris and Chef, the hosts were sipping coffee and sitting on log stumps.
"So, Chef," Chris said, breaking the silence, "how do you think our campers are doing on their "deserted island?"
"Anything coulda happened to them by now," Chef replied. "Mauled by bears, fell off a cliff, starved to death..."
Chris stared off to the side with a thoughtful look. "Hmm... Maybe I should go and check the monitors and see what kind of footage we've got."
"You are one dedicated host," Chef said, pulling Chris into his lap and rocking him like a baby. "You're an inspiration."
"Thanks, dude. It's what I do."
The Final Four were lounging on the beds inside the surprisingly furnished treehouse, except for Celestia, who opted to lean against the wall with a scowl.
"You really slept in the confessional all night?" Rantaro asked Junko with a chuckle. "How did you manage to do that?"
Junko shrugged. "I've slept in worse conditions. My sister and I moved around a lot."
"You have a sister?" Maki asked.
"Yeah," Junko replied. "Twin."
"And she didn't sign up for the show with you?"
"She... went to do her own thing." Junko glanced off to the side with a forlorn look.
"At least you have your sister," Rantaro muttered so low that it was barely audible.
Celestia stood up straight. "And I am officially done here. I think I will take my chances and find a way off of this island myself."
"Good luck with that," Junko snorted. "You're just gonna get yourself more lost."
"I have no doubt that it will be better than being here with you all." Celestia started to the treehouse's door, but paused. "Hm. How peculiar."
A dark plume of smoke could be seen outside, rising from behind the trees.
"What?" Junko looked out as well. "Looks like we've got company, guys."
"What are we waiting for?" Maki asked, looking out as well. "Let's go check it out."
Rantaro was the last one to look outside. "We should take something for self-defense, just in case."
"True," Junko agreed. She looked around, her gaze landing on the bunk beds—or, rather, the wood holding them up. She ripped all of the logs off one bed and tossed one to the other three and kept one for herself. "Let's head out."
The Final Four ran through the forest with logs in hand until they reached the source of the smoke, brandishing their weapons.
Chef yelped, jumping into Chris' arms, who grinned casually at them. "Hey, guys," he greeted. "It's about time you showed up."
"What is this?" Maki asked, warily eyeing the area they were in—a tent and an RV took up most of the clearing's space, with a few other employees loitering around.
"This is our production crews secret location," Chris explained, adding, "or was a secret, until now," in an annoyed voice.
"But—but the dinosaur skull!" Junko stuttered.
"And the skeleton," a bewildered Rantaro added.
"Oh, those were just leftover props from a dinosaur movie that was filmed—" Chris started, but was cut off.
"You mean while we were shipwrecked," Celestia fumed, "you all were just living it up over here?!"
Suddenly, a downpour took over, and Chris opened the RV's door and stepped in. "Yes, Celeste, that would be accurate. Sorry, I'd invite you in, but there's only room for six. See at the campfire tonight."
He shut the door, leaving the four campers to stare up at the sky in disbelief.
Like always, the elimination ceremony began after nightfall, and the four campers took their spots before Chris. The rain had stopped, and he stretched while grinning at them.
"It's been a grueling day, campers. Frankly, Chef and I are worn out. I hope you've learned two valuable lessons. First, always make sure your cottages are securely fastened to the ground. Second, any sort of splitting up sucks. Four heads are always better than one."
He held up the plate of marshmallows, and strangely enough, there were four of them.
"Uh, you do know there's four marshmallows on that plate, right?" Rantaro asked.
"Well aware, dude," Chris replied. "Surprise! No one's going home tonight!" He handed out the sweet treats. "Rantaro and Maki, Junko and Celestia. Enjoy your free night tonight on the island."
As Chris walked off, the four teens eyed each other.
"Well, then," Celestia said, eyeing Junko in particular. "It appears that the line has been drawn. May the best man—or woman—win."
