Chapter 2

Tom couldn't figure out what exactly was going on. He found himself standing in a field with a glowing figure flying above him. He looked up at it. He couldn't make out what it was, it was far too bright. Suddenly, it spoke to him.

"Get ready, Link! Somebody is coming out of Hyrule Castle Town!"

He blinked in confusion. Who was this mysterious light? Why did it call him Link? His name was Tom. He looked up at the light.

"What's going on? Where am I? Who are you?"

It didn't reply. He turned his attention to a drawbridge creaking open in the distance. He moved closer to it. When it finally opened, a white horse galloped out. It was carrying an older woman and a young girl. The girl had beautiful blue eyes and she wore a pretty pink dress. The older woman had long, white hair and long pointed ears. He couldn't make out what she was wearing. She looked like she had been in some sort of struggle. There were cuts and bruises all over her arms. Upon seeing Tom, the young girl's eyes were filled with worry. He saw her throw something. He watched the horse gallop away in the distance. Who were those people? Why did they appear to know him?

Before he could think about it further, a second horse galloped out. This one was black as night. It had glowing red eyes and it was a very evil looking horse. It's occupant looked even more sinister. It was a big, muscular looking man wearing black armor. His face and hands were green in color. He had yellow eyes, bright, wavy red hair and an odd object on his forehead that Tom couldn't identify. He stared at Tom and grinned insanely.

"Hey, kid! You've caused me a lot of trouble! Tell me where Princess Zelda and Impa galloped off to or you will be very sorry!"

Tom didn't know what to do or say. He simply backed away. The man grinned even more and held up his hand so it was facing him. A blast of magic shot out and caught him right in the chest and sent him flying backwards. The man just laughed and galloped away, yelling as he went.

"Consider that payback, kid! You've caused me nothing but trouble. I will find those two and I will return to finish you off!"

Tom laid on the ground in pain. What was going on? Was this real? He knew where he was, but it didn't seem possible. He smirked. Just a bad dream! He would likely wake up and find himself in his house with his friends. Maybe it was time to stop playing The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time so much.

Tom's thoughts were once again interrupted as the figure started to speak again.

"Hey! Hello! Wake up! Listen to me. Why won't you wake up? I need to speak to you urgently!"

Tom shook his head. What did it mean? He was awake! At least he thought he was... His chest still hurt and he couldn't move. Suddenly, the world around him began to fade away. All he could hear was an excessive, annoying voice.

"Hello! Come on, lazy bones! Wake up!"

Tom opened his eyes and looked around. This made him gasp in shock. He knew where he was, but that was impossible! He was in Link's house in The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time! He looked over at where the figure was standing. It giggled.

"It's about time you woke up! You looked like you were having quite the nightmare. Are you alright now?"

He got up and looked around the room. This wasn't real, was it? He looked down at himself. He was Link! He had a green tunic on and he was wearing small, brown boots. He looked at the figure.

"I need your help. How did I get here? Where are my friends Charlie and Max?"

It flew around the room very slowly.

"I assume you got here by walking up and into your house. As for your friends, I haven't met anybody with those names. Where are my manners? I haven't even introduced myself yet! I'm..."

Before it could finish, Tom interrupted.

"I know who you are now. You are Navi the fairy, correct?"

She gasped in surprise.

"B-but how do you know my name? We've never met!"

Tom smiled.

"I've played this game before, Navi. I know exactly where I am. But I never expected anything like this to happen. So, this isn't all in my mind? I'm not dreaming right now?"

Navi shook her head.

"Last time I checked this was real, kid. I don't know what you're talking about. This is no game. Now, the Deku Tree asked me to find you. I had trouble finding you, so I asked some of the kokiri and they told me where your house is. They called you Link. That's your name, correct?"

Tom didn't know how to respond. He couldn't figure out what was going on. Everything looked and sounded too real to be a dream. Was he in another reality? He figured that must be the case. That hole must have led into here. He decided to go along with everything. He not about to waste this unique opportunity. Who else could claim to be actually living in Hyrule? He looked up at Navi and nodded.

"That's right. My name's Link. I just...heard your name mentioned around the village before. I was told that you were a sort of advisor to the Great Deku Tree."

She nodded.

"Yes that's right, but I didn't realize I was well known around the village. Well, it's your lucky day. I was also instructed to be your fairy partner from now on. Now, let's get going. I need to report to the Great Deku Tree and you're supposed to come with me."

Link smiled. He was beginning to like her. She wasn't half as annoying as she was in the game so far! She actually sounded like an intelligent and helpful fairy. Link looked at her closely. It was hard to see because of all of the glowing, but Navi looked like a very tiny human with wings. Link walked towards the doorway and walked outside with Navi close behind him.

It was a bright and sunny day outside. He looked around and gasped with awe. Kokiri Village looked amazing! There were houses all over the tiny village and lots of people working on various tasks. From what he could see, there were lots of flowers growing all around the village. Before he could make another move, He looked down and spotted a female kokiri. She was wearing kokirish clothing and she had blue eyes, green hair and a gorgeous smile. She liked to help around the village and often got angry at Mido, the village chief for not helping around the village much. She was running towards his house. He smiled. This had to be Saria. She waved at Link as she smiled.

"Hi, Link! How are you doing on this fine day? "

He waved back.

"I'm doing great. It's good to see you, Saria. Give me a moment while I climb down out of this tree house."

He easily found the ladder and climbed down quickly with ease. He walked over to Saria. She giggled.

"I see Navi managed to found you. She told me that you were summoned by the Great Deku Tree. That's quite the honor. He's the guardian god of this forest. Go see what he needs. We'll speak when you return."

Navi was conversing with Saria's fairy. Valerie glowed a bright green in color. She had a interesting personality. She liked to giggle about most things and very seldom did she take things seriously.

"Hey, Valerie. It's been quite some time. How are you doing?"

Valerie, Saria fairy partner, giggled quietly at the question.

"I'm doing well, Navi. It's good to see you away from the Great Deku Tree for a change. I see you even have a new partner. What's his name?"

Saria shook her head.

"Valerie! They got to get moving. He's been summoned by the Great Deku Tree. Let them go. We'll talk to them later."

She cleared her throat.

"Very well. Sorry for holding you guys up. I'll see you when you return."

Link nodded as he turned right and made his way towards the Great deku Tree's meadow. As he got closer, he could see a kokiri with dark, blonde hair arguing with a group of kokiri. They were mad at him for not helping much around the village. He glared at them.

"Listen to me, you idiots! I'm standing guard to make sure nobody gets into this meadow without my authorization. Do you really want to see the Deku Tree attacked again?"

One of the kokiri stomped their foot down.

"But, boss! You haven't done a single thing to help in a while. We're stuck doing everything to improve this village while you stand here! Can't you help us out a little, Mido?"

Mido shook his head angrily. Mido was a rather strict village leader. He hardly ever helped or listened to any of the other villagers and he followed his own rules and did what he wanted. He liked being the leader. He was the strongest kokiri and he liked to push others around for fun. No one dared to challenge his leadership. Not after he threw a kokiri named Brad in the kokiri jail for trying. After he was released, he promised not to challenge him anymore and listen to him.

After the two kokiris shuffled off grumbling, Link walked up to him. He glared at him and blocked the path.

"Where do you think you're going? You're not going through here!"

Link sighed. He remembered about how annoying this idiot was. He tried reasoning with him.

"Look, I've got to get through. Navi here told me that I've been summoned by the Great Deku Tree, so let me through already!"

Mido was taken aback.

How dare you talk to me like that! I'm the village leader here and I could easily throw you in jail. I can't believe you actually got summoned by the Great Deku Tree instead of me! What was the darn tree thinking?"

Navi was getting impatient.

"Look Mido, are you going to let us through? Or do I have to tell the Great Deku Tree that you were stopping us from fulfilling his task?"

Mido growled angrily. He knew Navi was right.

"Alright fine! But first, you need a sword and shield ready before I let you through. You'll be useless to the Deku Tree without them. Now, get out of my sight and find those things!"

Link smirked.

"Okay. Where do I find a sword?"

Mido glared at him.

"That's not my problem. Maybe that fool Brad will have something you can use. Now, get going!"

Link walked away to find a sword and shield. He was shaking. Navi noticed this and voiced her concerns.

"Are you alright? Why are you shaking? Is something wrong?"

He shook his head.

"Nothing's wrong, I just really hate that guy. I feel like punching him in the nose. What do we do now?"

Navi smiled.

"I know what you mean. I've heard other people say the same about him. I suggest we talk to Saria."

Link walked over near his house with Navi in tow. Saria was still in the same spot. She ran up to Link.

"So, what happened? Why are you not seeing the Deku Tree?"

He sighed.

"That idiot Mido won't let me through without a sword and shield. Do you know where I can find those?"

Saria frowned at the thought of Mido denying him entry.

"That jerk! I don't know why he's so mean to everyone. It's a good idea to be prepared though. There is a shield in the village shop for forty rupees. Hold out your hand."

He did as he was instructed and Saria reached into her pocket and counted out forty rupees and handed them to Link.

Rupees were used as currency throughout Hyrule. They came in various colors. Green rupees were worth one, blue were worth five, red were worth twenty and purple were worth fifty. There were rumors that there were even silver and gold rupees. Silver were apparently worth one hundred and gold were apparently worth two hundred.

Link smiled broadly.

"Thanks a lot, Saria. I'll go and get one right away. Before I go, do you know where I can find a sword? Mido mentioned something about a kokiri named Brad that might be able to help."

Saria scratched her chin in thought.

"Yes. He might be able to help, but I'm afraid he doesn't have any real swords. He only trains with staves. Go and get your shield. Inside the shop, you should be able to find Fado. She's hard to miss. She's the only one in the village who has such bright blonde hair. She can introduce you to Brad. Those two are close friends. I don't think you ever met Brad before. Good luck, Link. I hope you can somehow find a sword."

Link grinned and waved farewell to Saria as she pointed in the direction of the shop with the red roof. He was eager to meet Brad. He sounded like quite the character. The shop was relatively easy to find. He had to dodge a lot of kokiris doing random tasks around the village. When he walked into the shop, he saw the blonde haired girl standing in one corner of the shop. That was obviously Fado. He walked up to the counter. There were various items stacked on the shelves on the back wall. One of the items was a small shield with a small design painted on it. The shopkeeper walked up to the counter.

"Hi, Link. What can I get you today?"

He pointed at the shield on the wall.

"Can I get a shield please?"

He nodded.

"Sure thing, pal. That'll be forty rupees."

Link reached into his pocket and handed him the money. The shopkeeper took it and counted it quickly and nodded with approval.

"Nice. Thanks for giving me exact change. That makes things easier for me. I'll get you your shield now."

He turned around, put the rupees in a small box and bent down and grabbed a small crate. He moved it over below the shields hanging on the wall and stood on it and lifted a shield off of the wall carefully. He handed it to Link and smiled.

"Have a good day. I hope it serves you well."

He thanked the shopkeeper and walked over to Fado. Like all kokiris, she wore a green kokiri tunic. She had beautiful blonde hair and green eyes. She was a very helpful and thoughtful kokiri, but she hated Mido's rule of the village and hoped that one day, somebody better would take over.

She smiled at Link.

"What I help you with, Link? That's a nice shield you got."

He smiled. It was better than nothing, but it was nothing special.

"Thanks. I was told to find you. I need you to introduce me to Brad."

She cocked her head to one side.

"What for? Oh, I get it! You want a weapon to go along with your shield. I didn't know you never met Brad before. Unfortunately, he only trains with staves. Is that alright with you?"

He frowned.

"I don't know if Mido will let me through with just a staff or not. I was summoned by the Great Deku Tree you see."

Her green eyes widened with surprise.

"Wow! What an honor! I'll take you to Brad. At least you can get some weapon training. He can help you with Mido later. He's had some experiences with him before."

She led him and Navi to the far right of the village. She then proceeded to climb a small hill. There was a large fenced off area and there was a brown haired kokiri training with a staff inside. Fado called over to him.

"Brad! Put that staff down for a minute and come here. I want to talk to you."

Brad looked up from his training and smiled. He had brown wavy hair and blue eyes. He was always a weapon fanatic. Whenever anybody needed him, he could be found training with his staff. He always thought it was a good idea to be prepared just in case after what happened with the stranger from outside the forest. He was an aggressive character and he hated how bossy and lazy Mido was all of the time. He was confident that he could challenge Mido to leadership and win one day with enough training. But until that day dawned, he continued to train with his staff and a scarecrow target. He set his staff down and walked over to where Fado and Link were standing.

"What do you need, Fado? Can't you see I'm training?"

He looked over at Link oddly.

"Who's this guy you have with you?"

Fado introduced him.

"This is Link. He's come here to get some weapon training."

Brad nodded slowly.

"I see. Thanks, Fado. I'll train him right away."

She nodded.

Thanks, Brad. I guess I should get back to work in the shop. Tarsius is going to be furious if I take too long!"

She made her way back to the shop leaving Link and Navi alone with Brad. The staff trainer pointed at Navi.

"I see you've got a fairy as well. What's her name?

Link introduced her.

"This is Navi, my fairy partner. We just met not long ago."

Brad smiled.

"Well met, Navi! This is my fairy partner, Isabel."

The fairy growled angrily.

"That's Izzy to you, Brad!"

He rubbed the back of his head.

"Sorry, Izzy. She's a little sensitive about her name. She hates Isabel. Just a momentary lapse. Won't happen again, Izzy. I promise. Now, you want some of my training with staves. Before I teach you, I have one thing to ask, why do you need my training? Nobody else is even interested in training with me."

Link told him about the Great Deku Tree. He gasped aloud.

"Well, that's a very good reason to need training, buddy. Just listen to me and I'm sure you'll do just fine."

Link nodded as Brad handed him a staff. He grabbed his own staff and pointed at the scarecrow.

"Okay. The first technique is a thrust. It's very simple. Just jab the scarecrow quickly. Like this. Watch!"

He walked up to the scarecrow and jabbed it with his staff quickly. He turned to Link.

"Now you try!"

Link copied Brad's attack and stabbed the scarecrow quickly. He stabbed it so hard, the staff went right through! Brad nodded in approval.

"Nice job, but I'm not done yet. Next is the spin attack. Now, I need you to stand back a fair distance. I don't want to end up hurting you."

Link walked over and stood behind the fence. Brad nodded and held out his staff in front of him and started to spin his body, slowly at first, but gradually getting faster. He started to move towards the scarecrow. When he made contact, there was an ear splitting crash. When Brad stopped spinning, the dust cleared. Brad was stumbling around, feeling very dizzy. The scarecrow was now nothing more than a pile of straw and wood. He looked at link and grinned.

"Wow, Link. Since when was there three of you?"

Navi laughed.

"I think you're still really dizzy, Brad. There's only one Link. Try to sit down and let your mind straighten things out for you again."

He smiled as Link helped him sit down on the ground.

"Thanks, pal. Now, give me about five minutes and I want you to try that spin attack next."

Link nodded and sat down beside him. He looked around the village, still feeling quite dizzy.

"Everything's still moving, but I can still feel how peaceful it is here. We had a stranger come here that disturbed that peace momentarily. He entered the Great Deku Tree's meadow and he used some sort of magic to throw people who tried to stop him. I couldn't even get close enough to swing at him. He wasn't in there long. We went to see what he was doing and he was gone. The deku Tree wouldn't tell us what happened. I hope he shares that with you. We just want to know if he's okay. We don't want to lose him. Now, enough about that. I'm starting to feel better. I'll move out of the way. Show me that spin attack, pal."

As soon as Brad was out of the way, Link spotted another scarecrow. He moved closer to it and he held out his staff in front of him and he began to spin his body. Slowly at first, but gradually getting faster. He moved towards the scarecrow and made contact. It ended up giving the same result. After Link was done spinning, all that was left of the scarecrow was nothing more than a pile of straw and wood. He held his head and stumbled around and fell over.

Brad laughed as he got up and moved to another scarecrow.

"Now you know how I felt. Well, I'm starting to feel better, so I want to show you one more technique. I got two more scarecrows to practice on. This one's very easy. I know you're feeling dizzy, but try to pay attention. This is called a chop. First, you hold your weapon behind your head. Then, you bring it crashing down on your victim, like this!"

He had his weapon behind his head and brought it crashing down onto the head of the scarecrow. It collapsed in a pile of grass and wood. He sighed.

"You know, I've really got to make these out of stronger wood. They don't hold up to anything. This other scarecrow seems a little stronger. Let's see you chop him!"

Link was finally feeling better. He got up, walked over to the scarecrow, and put his weapon behind his head and then brought it crashing down. It cleaved the scarecrow in two. He kicked at the remains of the scarecrow.

"Yeah, these aren't made of much. That's okay. When I find a real sword, those techniques will come in handy against real enemies."

Brad got up and patted him on the back.

"That's the spirit, but I don't know where you're going to find a real sword. All I have is staves. I don't think that will get you into the meadow if I know that idiot Mido."

Link flopped down onto the ground.

"You're probably right, but what do I do? I need to get in there. Do you have any suggestions, Navi?"

She started to fly around in deep thought.

"I'm not too sure, but we can't give up. The Great Deku Tree is counting on me to return with you."

Suddenly, Navi looked down at the ground at the far left of the training area and she discovered something odd. There was a small pile of rocks and debris piled against the wall. Navi called Brad and Link over.

"Hey guys! I found something."

They both came rushing over to see what she had found. Brad scratched his head.

"You know, I've never noticed this before. I never go this far over in the training area. If I did notice it, I likely ignored it."

Link was getting excited.

"I bet this is what we've been looking for. Let's get rid of these rocks and see what's underneath."

They began moving rocks clear from the wall and about ten minutes later, the rocks were moved and they revealed a small hole in the wall. Link couldn't believe his eyes. Where did this odd hole lead? He crouched down and peered inside. Whatever was in there, there was light in the room. He turned to the others.

"I'm going to enter this hole."

Brad nodded.

"Alright. I'll be right behind you. Lead the way, pal."

Izzy sighed.

"I think I might sit this one out, Brad. I'm going to go see how Valerie is doing."

She flew off to see her friend. Brad didn't hear what she said though.

Link pushed his way through the hole. It was a very tight fit. An adult wouldn't be able to fit After a few agonizing moments, he made it to the other side. Brad was right behind him. He sighed with relief.

"Well, that was a tight fit. Hey, look up. We got no ceiling, so the sunlight will help us out in here."

Link and Navi looked up. Brad grinned at them.

"Convenient isn't it?"

They looked forward. There was a long, narrow passageway ahead of them. Link and Brad made their way forward carefully, trying to see if there were any traps. Navi gave them some sensible advice.

"Be careful where you step as well. There might be switches on the ground that are pressure activated."

Just as the words left her mouth, they all heard a loud Click! Link looked down and to his horror, he realized that he had stepped on a pressure activated switch! They looked around, but they didn't see anything. Suddenly, they all heard rumbling. None of them were prepared for what happened next. That's when they saw it. A huge boulder was rolling towards them. Brad screamed in panic.

"Oh crap! What are we going to do now?"

Staying calm and thinking quickly, Link looked around and noticed a side passage. He grabbed Brad's arm and yelled out at Navi.

"This way, Navi, quickly!"

He ran over to the side passage with Brad. Navi made it just in time as the boulder rolled by and crashed into the far wall next to where they entered. Brad sighed with relief, as did Navi. He shook Link's hand vigorously.

"Thanks so much, Link. That was quick thinking. I owe you my life."

Navi giggled.

"Same goes for me. I'm proud to be your fairy partner."

They continued down the passage and it headed left. They finally reached their destination. There was a very fancy treasure chest sitting on top of a stump. It had gold trimmings all over it. Navi smiled.

"I bet this is what we're looking for, Link. Why else would it be guarded by a trap?"

He nodded as he tried to open the chest. It wouldn't budge. Brad reached behind his back and brought forth a staff and handed it to Link.

"Here. Try prying it open with this, Link."

He took the stick and pried on the chest. After a few attempts, it finally opened. Link looked inside and cried in delight.

"Yes! You were right, Navi. Look what's in here!"

He brought out a beautiful sword from the chest. It had a polished, golden hilt and it had a ruby set into the center of the hilt. It had a light but balanced feel to the blade. The blade itself was about twenty inches in length. All in all, it was an amazing blade. He was surprised. The sword in the original game didn't compare to this beauty! He was starting to like it here more and more with every passing minute. Brad gasped in awe.

"Wow. That is quite the amazing blade. I heard rumors before about a sword being hidden somewhere in the forest. This must be it. It was definitely worth coming in here."

Link, Brad and Navi made their way out of the passage and back into the training area. They waved at Brad as they made their way towards the Great Deku Tree's meadow. Link expressed his thanks as he went.

"Thanks for all your help, Brad. I couldn't have got this sword without your help. I really appreciate your training as well!"

He grinned and waved back.

"No problem, bud. I was glad to help. Give Mido a punch in the shoulder for me, will you? Hahaha!"

Link and Navi made their way back to the meadow and once again, Mido stepped in front of them. He pointed at Link.

"Hey loser! What did I tell you about not coming back here without a..."

He paused and looked at Link's back.

"Hrmph! You got a sword and shield do you? Let me see that sword."

Link held out the blade. Mido was fascinated by the ruby in the center of the hilt. He shook his head in wonder.

"Amazing! Where did you find a blade like that? Never mind. Fine! You can pass. I don't want to know where you found the sword because I probably wouldn't believe you anyway. Hrmph!"

He moved to one side as Link and Navi entered the meadow. As they entered, Link heard Mido mumble something about Link being the favorite of saria and the great Deku Tree.

Link approached the Great Deku Tree. He looked to be a great age. What leaves he had left were wilting and he had a lot of missing branches and bark that had fallen off. Navi flew over to him.

"Great Deku tree. I'm back and I brought Link with me!"

The Great Deku Tree replied in almost an annoyed tone.

"Why hast thou taketh so long? It should have only taken thou ten minutes!"

Link answered for Navi.

"Well Great Deku tree, it was like this. Me and Navi were heading right over here when that guy Mido stopped us and said I needed a sword and shield. Saria gave me money for a shield, but I had no idea where to find a sword. Navi here helped me and Brad to find a strange rock pile and underneath was a small hole that lead to the sword. I also went through some training as well before I arrived."

The Great Deku Tree smiled.

"Well it sounds like thou had quite the adventure already! But I'm afraid thy adventures art just beginning. A man in black armor came here a few days ago and demanded the sacred treasure of the Kokiri and when I refused, he laid a terrible curse on me. Thy past moons have been full of nightmares. I need you to go inside and eliminate the curse with your wisdom and courage. Have ye what it takes to complete this task for me?"

Link nodded.

"Yes. I will do my very best to help you."

The Great Deku Tree started to groan. All of a sudden, the bark at the front of the Deku Tree started to break apart revealing a doorway.

"Enter brave Link and thou too, Navi. Help to guide Link through the unknown. I know you two have just met, but try your best to work together."

Link nodded.

"Will do, great Deku tree!"

And with that being said, Link and Navi entered the Great Deku Tree.

Author's notes.

Well, this revised chapter was a lot longer than I wanted it to be, but it's still a lot better than the original!
