Chapter 4

As Ash and his siblings, accompanied by Lillie, approach the house, a sense of urgency hangs in the air. They spot a black-haired man frantically yelling, "Quick! Get in!" His urgency is palpable as the group of seven rushes into the safety of the house. With swift precision, the man presses a button, and a shimmering barrier materializes, encasing the area in protective energy.

"Thank you for helping us, Ray. It wasn't easy getting here all the way from the Pokemon Center," Mark says with relief evident in his voice.

"No problem at all. So, you must be the Chosen Prince, Ash Ketchum," Ray responds, extending a hand in greeting. "It's an honor to meet you. I'm Ray Chiu, an old friend of your father and your ally in this region."

"Really?" Ash's eyes widen with curiosity as he surveys the barrier. "Are you confident that this barrier will shield us from any harm?"

"Don't worry," Ray reassures him. "These barriers are crafted from aura energy. Only those attuned to aura will be able to perceive this place. Luckily, aura users have been targeted, believed to be agents of the Chosen Prince."

Lillie's voice trembles with concern as she poses her question, "So these attacks are because of Ash being the Chosen Prince and the kingdoms' decline, right? How do we proceed with our quest under these circumstances?"

Ray nods solemnly. "You're right, Lillie. The kingdoms have fallen into corruption, and the people have suffered greatly. In secret, they've placed their hopes on the Chosen Prince to free them from this misery. And that's where all of you come in."

Ash's determination shines through as he speaks up, "Ray, could you elaborate on the corruption in each kingdom? We need a strategic plan to counter them effectively."

"Of course, my prince," Ray acknowledges, placing a map before them that reveals the layout of the 18 kingdoms.

Viridale (Grass) - The leaders of Viridale exploit the region's rich natural resources, leading to deforestation and ecological imbalance. Corruption is rooted in the illegal trade of exotic and endangered plant species, profiting off their medicinal and magical properties. This has led to frequent conflicts with environmental factions and neighboring kingdoms over resource exploitation.

Shadehollow (Ghost) - Shadehollow's rulers are known to communicate with the spirits for guidance, but they have begun to manipulate these interactions to justify oppressive policies and suppress dissent. The kingdom uses ghostly apparitions to instill fear and control over its citizens, making them compliant. Corruption has seeped into spiritual rituals, turning sacred practices into tools for political gain.

Harmony (Normal) - Despite its seemingly peaceful facade, Harmony is a hub for underground criminal activities that outwardly appear legitimate. The kingdom's elite manipulate its central economic position to launder money and trade illicit goods across the region. Corruption here involves bribing officials to overlook the illegal activities that fund much of the kingdom's prosperity.

Flamborough (Fire) - Flamborough is plagued by corruption in its energy sector, with power brokers monopolizing control over the kingdom's vast geothermal and volcanic resources. These elites manipulate fire energies to create scarcity, driving up prices while padding their own coffers. Additionally, the kingdom's obsession with strength and power leads to frequent and destructive displays of force, burning bridges both literally and metaphorically with allies.

Bramblethorn (Bug) - Bramblethorn's leadership uses its unique biotechnology to engineer new species of insects for espionage and warfare, violating several ethical norms. The kingdom's research facilities often conduct experiments on living creatures, leading to mutations that escape and wreak havoc on the ecosystem. Corruption here is also marked by a black market for these bio-engineered bugs, sold to the highest bidder regardless of intent.

Frostguard (Ice) - Frostguard's elite control the distribution of ice, which is essential for various purposes in the kingdom. They have monopolized this natural resource, allowing them to manipulate prices and withhold supply to coerce political and economic outcomes. Corruption is further deepened by the kingdom's secretive ice cults, which perform dangerous rituals that threaten the natural cold balance.

Duskmire (Dark) - In Duskmire, corruption manifests through a network of secret societies that manipulate the kingdom's politics from the shadows. The ruling class engages in blackmail and assassination to maintain their power, using the kingdom's naturally dark environment to their advantage. There is also rampant corruption in the judicial system, where justice is often swayed by bribes and threats rather than truth and fairness.

Venombre (Poison) - Venombre's government is corrupted by its involvement in the global poison market, dealing in toxins that are banned in many other regions. Political assassinations using these poisons are not uncommon, and the kingdom's leaders use fear of poisoning to keep their subordinates in line. Moreover, environmental corruption is rampant, as chemical waste from poison manufacturing heavily pollutes the land and water.

Battleforge (Fighting) - Battleforge's arena, where warriors compete for glory, is riddled with corruption, including fixed matches and gambling scandals. The kingdom's leader uses the arena to dispose of political enemies under the guise of honorable combat. Training camps for fighters are often brutal, and those in charge exploit young warriors, pushing them into combat before they are ready.

Voltshield (Electric) - Voltshield experiences corruption through the monopolization and manipulation of its electric grid by a few powerful families. These families have rigged the system to cause blackouts in areas that oppose their rule, using energy as a tool for political leverage. Corruption is further enhanced by the kingdom's experimentation with electric-based weapons, often tested on unsuspecting populations.

Psycadia (Psychic) - In Psycadia, the elite psychics use their abilities to manipulate thoughts and steal secrets, ensuring their continued dominance over the kingdom's governance. Corruption has seeped into every layer of society, with citizens never sure if their thoughts are truly their own. The rulers also engage in psychic espionage, breaking treaties and spying on allies.

Aquarine (Water) - Aquarine's leaders hoard and control water supplies, creating artificial shortages to increase prices and solidify their control. The kingdom's famed water purification technology is often withheld from the poorer regions, exacerbating inequality. Corruption here also involves sabotaging neighboring kingdoms' water sources to make them dependent on Aquarine's water exports.

Terralith (Rock) - Terralith suffers from corruption in its mining industries, where unsafe working conditions and exploitation are common. The kingdom's leaders grant mining rights based on bribes and personal connections, disregarding environmental and safety regulations. This has led to several disasters, with mines collapsing and causing loss of life, yet those responsible face no consequences.

Dracodawn (Dragon) - Dracodawn's rulers have formed pacts with dragon lords, using their fearsome power to enforce their will beyond their borders. This power is often abused to extract tributes from smaller kingdoms under the threat of dragon attacks. Inside the kingdom, dragon handlers bribe officials to obtain the most powerful dragons, skewing the balance of power and leading to frequent and fiery disputes.

Faerun (Fairy) - Faerun is corrupted by its deceptive appearance of innocence and charm, hiding a cutthroat political environment. The kingdom's leaders use enchantments to sway public opinion and silence opposition. Secret fairy circles exert undue influence, trading magical favors for political or financial gain.

Stoneheart (Ground) - Stoneheart is deeply corrupt, with its leaders exploiting the kingdom's geological resources, causing severe environmental degradation. Construction magnates build unsafe structures with cheap materials while paying off inspectors to ignore the risks. The frequent earthquakes and landslides are a direct result of this corruption, yet the kingdom's leaders deflect blame and avoid accountability.

Steelhaven (Steel) - Steelhaven is dominated by a few powerful industrial magnates who control the steel production and supply, fixing prices and stifling competition. Workers in the steel mills labor in dangerous conditions for minimal pay, with union leaders often being bribed or threatened into silence. The smog from steel factories blankets the kingdom, causing health issues that are ignored by the authorities.

Galecrest (Flying) - Galecrest's airship industry is plagued by corruption, with officials certifying unsafe vessels in exchange for bribes. The kingdom's airspace is controlled by a corrupt cartel that charges exorbitant fees for air travel routes. Smuggling via airships is rampant, facilitated by bribed officials who turn a blind eye to illegal cargo.

Ray's explanation lingers in the air, a heavy silence following his words as the weight of the situation sinks in for Ash and the others. Lillie's question echoes their collective confusion and frustration.

"I don't understand... why would the king divide the United Region into 18 kingdoms in the first place?" Lillie's voice trembles with a mix of curiosity and disbelief.

Ray sighs, a hint of sorrow coloring his tone. "In ancient times, the development of this land was a monumental task. The king sought out family members to aid in this endeavor, but they weren't chosen at random. They were selected based on their noble deeds and heroic actions, their stories becoming legendary fairy tales known throughout the world."

He continues, "The initial kings and queens of these regions indeed accomplished great things, earning admiration and respect. However, as time passed, corruption seeped in like a poison, tarnishing the once-glorious legacy they had built."

The sense of betrayal and disappointment is palpable among the group as they grapple with the harsh reality of their fractured region, once united in purpose and prosperity but now divided by greed and malice.

Ash's words carry a weight of caution and pragmatism as he addresses the group's predicament. "Walking into the government and demanding change isn't feasible, especially with wanted signs plastered around town. And let's not forget, not all our challenges can be overcome with Pokémon battles alone, especially with the threat of assassins resorting to deceit to eliminate us."

Mark interjects, seeking a glimmer of hope amidst the grim reality. "But we do have an advantage with Legendary Pokémon, Mythical Pokémon, Ultra Beasts, and Paradox Pokémon on our side. These extraordinary creatures, with their base stat totals exceeding 550, owe their allegiance to us due to our brother's past deeds."

Ray's attention shifts to Ash, curiosity coloring his tone. "So, Ash, how many Pokémon do you currently have in your possession?"

"I have 179 Pokémon in my team at the moment," Ash responds. "But I'm considering sharing some with Lillie for added protection."

Lillie, taken aback by Ash's offer, blushes before voicing her surprise, "Are you sure about that?"

"Absolutely," Ash affirms. "Since you've been pulled into this family's affairs, it's only fair that I lend you some Pokémon for your safety."

Golly chimes in with gratitude, "That's incredibly kind of you, Brother. However, we primarily rely on our own Pokémon, so there's no need for you to lend us yours."

Ray's suggestion hangs in the air, a glimmer of hope amidst the challenges they face. "How about inheriting the organization? Your father established Team Alpha, a collective of volunteers from the 9 regions offering aid."

"Team Alpha..." Ash murmurs, a flicker of recognition in his eyes. "That might just be our best bet. We'll need every ally we can muster."

"Brother is right, and it will be also great to gather more followers if we want to succeed." Trenor adds.

The idea of stepping into his father's footsteps and leading a group dedicated to restoring peace and order resonates with Ash. It signifies not just a personal journey but a chance to honor his father's legacy and fulfill the hopes of those who once believed in the unity and prosperity of the United Region.

Okay, so here we have the explanation of each region and the corruption. It is not easy to come up with them, and it is also not easy to write the following chpaters. I just hope that you like the names of the region and the next chapter will begin with the Viridale Kingdom's conquest.
