Tabitha texts Roman out of the blue, asking to meet for drinks. Roman suspects that she saw the wedding announcement that Gerri's daughters quaintly put in The New York Times and wants the gossip.
"Had a message from Tabs," he informs Gerri as she stands in front of her wardrobe, choosing an outfit. "She wants to meet for drinks… just me," he clarifies.
"That's nice," says Gerri, picking a blue ensemble. "You should go."
"You don't mind?"
"Why would I mind?" She brushes past him. "It'll be good for the two of you to catch up."
Her lack of reaction needles at Roman as he replies to Tabitha, suggesting they meet tonight at the cocktail bar where he and Gerri had their first date. He pockets his phone and strolls into the lounge to tell Gerri of his plans. She doesn't bat an eyelid at the location.
"Aren't you even a little jealous?" he asks petulantly. "Me seeing my ex?"
"Not really." She shrugs. "I trust you."
Roman tries to take that as a compliment as he gets ready to go out that night, but all he can hear is I don't care. He remembers plucking up the courage to tell his mother that he had decided to stay with Dad when she went back to England permanently, and her reply of that's probably for the best, darling.
"I'm going to meet Tabs then," he informs Gerri, who is still in front of her laptop.
"Give her my best wishes," says Gerri.
"Don't wait up. You know how wild Tabs is, we might end up at an orgy."
"Make sure you use protection." Gerri doesn't take her eyes off the screen.
"See you later, then."
It is actually nice to see Tabitha again. She tells him over drinks that she's sorry about Logan and Roman admits that it's been rough. It feels like they can finally be honest with each other, now that they're not together.
"I'm sorry we never actually, you know," he says, toying with his martini glass. "It wasn't about you. It was my stuff."
"Yeah, I kind of figured," she says. "You're doing okay with Gerri, though?"
He can't help the smile that curves across his face at the mention of Gerri, momentarily forgetting that he's mad at her. "Yeah, we're doing okay."
"That's good," says Tabitha. "I totally ship you guys. I'm actually back with Naomi, so it all worked out."
"Does that mean you'll come to the wedding?" he asks.
"That might be a little too much," she concedes. "It's weird enough that I'm in your sister's wedding photos after blowing the groom."
"Yeah, and that you're banging Kendall's ex," he says. "You know she had a thing with Tom too?"
They spend another hour talking and laughing and getting pleasantly drunk, until it's time for Roman to go home. Gerri is still up, sipping a drink, having changed into her silk pyjamas that he loves the feel of.
"How was the orgy?" she asks.
"Hardy har." He slides down next to her on the couch and lets his head fall into her lap. "You could at least pretend to be jealous."
"Okay," she says, putting her drink down and running her fingers through his hair. "Maybe I was feeling a little insecure about you meeting your gorgeous ex."
"You were?" He smiles up at her.
"Just a little," she stresses.
He pulls himself up to kiss her. "Well, there's no need. Besides the fact that I'm completely in love with you, she's back with Naomi Pierce and says that she totally ships us. That means—"
"I know what it means," she interrupts. "I do occasionally surf the web."
"Good for you, boomer." He resumes his position with his head in her lap.
"I really do trust you, Rome," she says softly.
"Good," he says. "I trust you, too."
