NOT EDITED

"To expect the unexpected shows a thoroughly modern intellect" - Oscar Wilde

A great quote often shortened to just "Expect the Unexpected", one I really should have had seared into me, after past events. This one quote can be used to describe how my life usually ends up, with the unexpected always happening. I honestly believe I jinxed myself when speaking with Charlie on our last unexpected patrol together. I really should have known better, the life of a supernatural can never be a quiet one. And once more, it seems it will have to revolve around teenagers.

Why did it have to be teenagers? Gerard Way from "My Chemical Romance" definitely had it right when he sang, "Teenagers scare the living shit out of me…" They are nothing but drama and migraines mixed into one giant pot. And don't get me started on what happened the day before, damn me and my big mouth. 'I really did jinx myself.'

~ FLASHBACK ~

Friday, October 15, 2004; Location - Forks' Police Station; after working hours

It was way past clock out hour, but with all the progress made in the seemingly endless archive room, 'I refuse to use any heightened abilities to lighten my work load unless the situation is a dire emergency' I simply lost track of time. Which kept being pointed out to me by one of our Deputy Chiefs, Mark. Who had practically thrown me out of the storage rooms and up to the base floor. 'I know when I'm no longer needed.' By the time I packed my things and wandered into the breakroom to pick up the take out lunch I neglected to eat because of how busy I had been. It was already an hour and half after my off hours. Overlooking Mark's not-so-quiet remarks of "About damn time!" I made my way out as I said a quick goodbye to Marcie, the other receptionist. 'And way better than Judy.'

I know Mark and everyone else mean well, seeing as I am the youngest rookie they have at the station, they tend to treat me as a kid on an internship instead of an actual working officer. A quick glance to my watch for the time, 5:37 pm, yup that would do it. No wonder they wanted me out. They try to keep me from overworking myself.

Making my way to my 2003 Evo 7, I can't help but notice immediately the tanned young man leaning over my car trying to look through the windows. 'Spirits help, what did I do to deserve this.' A quick cough to catch his attention has him jumping high. Clearly startled, the kid spins around, and to no one's surprise it's Jared.

"Heyy," his greeting was awkward and his tone nervous. Definitely wasn't expecting to get caught looking into my car.

"Evening kid." he cringed at the nickname I give everyone younger than me.

"You know, I am 16, almost 17."

"Anyone under the age of 21 is strictly still a kid in my eyes." I told him straight up like how I used to tell Tyler when he pouted about being called a kid. This time though my response made him wince and his eyes shifted to the tree line. I didn't need to turn to know who was hiding in them, but it did make me curious as to why he acted that way.

"May I help you with something? Or did you lose something within my car?" I knew my sarcasm was dripping of my tone but I was a bit peeved at having to deal with whatever this was. No matter how much I wanted answers they clearly weren't ready to give.

"Oh! Uh no, I was uh…" panic shined through his eyes as he once more looked over to the trees. I on the other hand could already tell that his partner in waiting had spirited away. Leaving poor Jared at the mercy of the police, aka me. "I was just admiring your car, it's a very nice color. Great car."

"Thanks, I have three." 'Idiot! I thought we were keeping the part where I am rich, lowkey!'

"Oh," Jared exhales, "so you like rich or something?"

"Or something…" I whispered. "Well! If you excuse me, I just got off shift and am very hungry."

"Oh, yeah. Hey, have you been to the Lodge yet? They have great burgers."

Confused by his insistence to continue speaking with me, I calmly peek down at the cold take out still within my grasp. His eyes also followed and with flushed cheeks he looked away in embarrassment. Proceeding to unlock my doors, I put my things inside on the back seats. Slamming it shut, I make my way around to the driver's seat.

"They have really good fries." Jared tried once more to catch my attention.

It's crystal clear he has something to get off his chest, the question is will he spill or keep his silence? Staring off into the sides to think it through, I sigh. 'I guess if need be I can always compel the answers out of him, and if I don't like it I can always make him forget the entire meeting.'

Tired and very hungry, I entered my car and opened the passenger door. Jared however didn't get the hint until the sound of the engine had him diving into the passenger seat.

"What are you waiting for?" He turned to me.

"Seat belts." I stated.

"Oh, sorry." Quickly buckling in, we were off to the diner I visited only once with the Chief.
