'You did what?'

Ada inspected the plastic lilac iridescent egg and shook it gently. Hecate expected it to make a sound.

'There was a tiny chocolate egg in there. It's a lovely idea.'

Hecate was not impressed. Scavenging for trinkets in the grass was not her idea of time well spent. Sometimes Ada had the most outlandish ideas picked up from the ordinary people.

'I don't see why we can't organise an egg hunt for the pupils' said Ada looking hopeful. 'Maybe a tiny chocolate egg. And put a spell in each one that they have to learn over the Easter half term. They can have the chance to swap with their peers if they want.'

Hecate perked up at the idea of a modicum of education.

'And they can spend their P.E. lesson searching. Dimity and Geraldine can supervise. We'll make some in reserve for anyone who doesn't find one.'

Hecate tapped her fingers on the table, considered it.

'We'll put it to the motion at the meeting.'

Hecate liked the sound of that. She'd never been part of a team before. To be a 'we' in life. Ada included Hecate in everything she could. To the point of sharing her bed. That was the best part. If Hecate would ever think of considering any other occupation in the world, she knew that Ada's bed was always reserved for her.

'I saved the other one for you.'

The pale green egg had a satisfying weight to it that pleased Hecate. She opened it and secreted the chocolate into a pocket. She would have it after dinner. Ada took the eggs back with the intention of working some magic. It wasn't until midnight that Hecate could see the result. A flickering light stood on each bedside table, glowing warmly within the egg. Ada had bewitched them to switch on and off with a tap of the finger. Hecate had to admit it was quite enchanting, for something that had come out of the ordinary world.
