A Mimikyu's Journey to Finding Home by Eeveefanalways
The Mimikyu was there in Vien Forest, all alone as per usual by itself. After the Almia region wanted to bring more diverse Pokémon to co-exist together, the Ranger Union sought Pokémon out that would still be able to survive and adapt regardless of what region they're in. Amongst the Pokémon brought, were around two hundred Mimikyu.
This Mimikyu in particular was like the other Mimikyus, it wanted to be loved and given affection, and yet, people and Trainers alike steer clear of these Pokémon. There was something about the rag it was wearing and how it was designed to look like a Pikachu that just didn't sit right with many people. Lingering around on the forest floor and munching on an Oran berry, the Mimikyu thought to itself as another day went on and it began to be nighttime.
'How long…just how long must I wait to find a trainer to love me? I was by myself in that shopping mall in Alola for as long as I can remember. Now, I've been in this forest for months and not a single person has tried to capture me, if anything, they just hurry along once they see me.' Mimikyu thought to itself as it finished off its berry.
Just then, the Pokémon heard the soft rustling of footsteps, but these footsteps didn't belong to just any person, they belonged to a Pokémon Ranger by the name of Kellyn. This Pokémon Ranger, or to be more precise, Top Ranger, named Kellyn was the saviour of Almia after he saved the region along with his friends at the Ranger Union, from the clutches of Team Dim Sun and their leader, Blake Hall. The mid-20s man was out on patrol as per usual for a Pokémon Ranger, though Top Rangers can patrol anywhere they want for as long as they choose to. After he finished paying his girlfriend Luana, an Area Ranger, a visit at Vientown, going for a walk was just what he needed.
'What a nice stroll, definitely need a little break after a day of helping out people in Vientown and spending some alone time with Luana!' Kellyn thought as he affectionally rubbed his Partner Pokémon, Pachirisu's head.
The Top Ranger had five Pokémon with him, including his Pachirisu as he was also a Trainer who enjoyed battling. When it came to wild Pokémon though, he didn't have any Ghost types on his team, though the young man always wanted one as a companion. It was just the Ranger's luck when he saw a Mimikyu by the tree.
"Woah a Mimikyu; I haven't seen one before, only heard about them…time to catch it!" Kellyn exclaimed.
The Mimikyu was shocked from hearing the man's words, in fact, shock was an understatement, Mimikyu was downright flabbergasted, stunned and intrigued all in one.
'A human…let alone a Pokémon Ranger…wants…me?' Mimikyu thought to itself as Kellyn brought his Capture Styler into position.
"Alright, I've wanted to capture one since I was a child, Capture On!" Kellyn eagerly announced as his capture disc began to make loops around the Mimikyu.
Usually, wild Mimikyu were a bit on the tougher side to capture, usually toying around with Pokémon Trainers or Rangers to make the attempt more exciting for both parties. This was mainly due to the Mimikyu as a species wanting to be captured, but also wanted to play around with their soon-to-be new friend firsthand. This Mimikyu, did exactly that, by jumping around the treetops as Kellyn's capture line made a full circular connection. After no time, the little Mimikyu was captured and Kellyn quickly brought the Pokémon into his arms, hugging it affectionately.
"Hey there Mimikyu, it's so cool to finally have such a cool Pokémon like yourself! My name's Kellyn and we're going to go on great adventures together!" Kellyn exclaimed as the Mimikyu began to cry softly with joy, the Ranger gently wiping away the Pokémon's tears.
Kellyn then took out a Friend Ball and lightly tapped Mimikyu on the head. The capture styler being able to make capturing Pokémon much easier then whittling down a Pokémon's health from battle, plus the fact that Mimikyu longed for a companion, made the entire capture of Mimikyu take under a minute.
After three shakes, a bright light enveloped the Friend Ball, signifying the completed capture. Kellyn grinned and then let Mimikyu out from the Pokéball, the Pokémon looked up eagerly at their new friend as the Top Ranger patted the Pokémon on the Pikachu portion of their disguise.
"Welcome to the team, Mimikyu! You'll feel right at home with us! I'm heading back to the Ranger Union, you can sit on my shoulder if you'd like!" Kellyn said as Mimikyu did just that, as if it were natural for the Pokémon, which never thought it'd get a Trainer in its life.
After several minutes of walking, Kellyn was halfway to the Ranger Union, now on his way through Union Road, Kellyn had encountered a Pokémon in his way, a Gengar. This Gengar wasn't like other Gengars; it didn't love to scare Trainers and Rangers whenever it caught them off guard, instead, it attacked the humans traversing down the road with surprisingly fierce aggression, usually making people have to take an alternate path. Mimikyu was unfazed by the bigger Ghost Pokémon, and Kellyn wasn't one to steer away from a battle, though this was the first he encountered the Gengar since he always took the alternate path anyways due to the beautiful river it had to offer.
The Gengar wasted no time in attacking and launched a Shadow Ball at Kellyn. Mimikyu, timid but also loyal to its new friend, wanted to fight. Kellyn on the other hand, wanted to protect Mimikyu, not because he thought his friend was weak, but because he didn't want any harm to happen to his newfound buddy. Mimikyu's tail, which was really a rugged tree branch, batted away the shadowy ball of imbued thoughts, and it went into a nearby tree, destroying the sturdy oak tree. Kellyn, as always, was grateful for his Pokémon, especially his newfound one that acted so quickly.
"Great work Mimikyu, let's go with Play Rough!" Kellyn announced.
Mimikyu nodded and launched forward, its shadowy appendages smacking around the Gengar fiercely while the bigger Ghost-type tried to intimidate the Mimikyu.
"How dare you try attacking my Trainer! What's your deal anyways?" Mimikyu angrily said to the Gengar whilst the latter scoffed.
"You're an adamant Pokémon to defend him so loyally, all humans are the same and will just abandon their Pokémon, or leave their Trainers, like I did." Gengar said.
Gengar used Shadow Punch on Mimikyu, though the disguise took the brunt of the hit, and the Pikachu 'head' had slumped over. Kellyn cried out in surprise and ordered Mimikyu to retreat away from harm. Mimikyu followed its Trainer's orders and hopped away from any attack that Gengar was planning. However, the Gengar had vanished, and Kellyn looked around, wondering where it had gone to, with Mimikyu doing the same.
"Be careful Mimikyu, I don't want you getting hurt; I don't know what that Gengar has planned…" Kellyn said as Mimikyu nodded.
Just then, Gengar reappeared, but not by Mimikyu, instead, right behind Kellyn. The Ghost Pokémon unleashed a Shadow Punch to Kellyn's back, causing the Top Ranger to cry out in pain. Hearing the brief yelp of pain and turning around to see their Trainer on the ground, Mimikyu rushed forward with a Shadow Claw. Gengar dodged it, and unleashed a Shadow Ball once more, this time, the move had hit and damaged some of Mimikyu's costume, tearing it.
'My…my trainer is hurt…so is my costume, but Kellyn's safety is more important!' Mimikyu thought to itself as it used Play Rough again on the Gengar.
"H-hey…what do you think you're doing? Are you trying to make me leave this area?" Gengar exclaimed as Kellyn shook off the surprise attack to get back up.
"You hurt my friend, so you get no mercy from me." Mimikyu said as Kellyn had Mimikyu use Shadow Claw on Gengar.
The move had done massive damage to the Gengar, and it went flying back from Mimikyu's fierce blow, which was even more powerful considering it used the move with the intent to protect Kellyn. Once it recovered, Gengar used Shadow Punch on Mimikyu, though Kellyn rushed to take the blow instead. The move had knocked the wind out of Kellyn, but he was willing to do so to protect Mimikyu at any costs. Mimikyu was stunned, no human had ever shown the Pokémon such kindness, and Kellyn's willingness to get hurt for it was overwhelming. As Kellyn lurched over in pain, Gengar prepared to strike again, only to get struck in the face with a balled-up shadowy fist from Mimikyu.
This time, Gengar reeled back from the hit, and looked at the Mimikyu in fear and shock.
"F-fine, you win…I'm…I'm leaving!" Gengar hissed as it vanished into the shadows.
Mimikyu however, didn't celebrate its victory, after all, its Trainer was hurt and its disguise was torn.
Mimikyu bounced up and down as its Trainer got up slowly, coughing a bit from the pain. Thankfully, no bones were broken, fractured or sprained. After all, any real damage that could have injured Kellyn would have been absorbed by the Styler, which lost fourteen health points of its total amount. After recovering from the hits he received, Kellyn cradled Mimikyu and frowned at the damage that Gengar did to his beloved Pokémon's cloak.
"Mimikyu…I'm sorry for what that Gengar did to you, I didn't intend for your cloak to get damaged!" Kellyn said as Mimikyu hugged its Trainer with two shadowy arms, relieved the Ranger was okay.
'You are okay, my cloak can always be fixed, but if you got hurt, then the only human who cared for me would be gone, and I would be sad.' Mimikyu thought as Kellyn picked up the small Ghost Pokémon with a small smile.
"Don't you worry, I got a good surprise for you!" Kellyn said as Mimikyu became curious.
As the Pokémon wondered what their Trainer had up their sleeve, the duo soon reached the Ranger Union, a sprawling three-story building where Top Rangers, Top Mechanics and Top Operators. Heading inside of his designated room complete with all the amenities needed, Kellyn put Mimikyu down onto his bed. Taking out a sewing kit, Kellyn had a smile on his face as he took out his five Pokéballs.
"Let's have you meet the rest of the team, Mimikyu!" Kellyn said as he released the other five Pokémon.
Mimikyu looked with excitement as a Swampert, Espeon, Umbreon, Hydregion and Pachirisu came out from their Pokéballs and the others looked at the Mimikyu with curiosity, as its Pikachu disguise had been busted.
The five Pokémon spoke with the newest member of the team with warmth and acceptance, mainly due Kellyn being so accepting of them as Pokémon from various backgrounds, they knew to be accepting of one another, with Pachirisu being the oldest member of his team. Considering that the personality of a Trainer, no matter what their career is, would rub off on the Pokémon, it makes sense all of Kellyn's other Pokémon would be so friendly to Mimikyu, giving it an outstanding amount of affection.
While the other team members were talking to Mimikyu, Kellyn was deciding on which color cloak to use, but ultimately wanted Mimikyu to decide.
"Hrm…say, Mimikyu, what color would you like for your new cloak?" Kellyn asked as Mimikyu politely excused itself and sauntered over.
There was every color imaginable for materials to make the cloak, along with markers of every color as well. Mimikyu decided to not go with yellow, and instead, went with a light brown. Kellyn smiled at Mimikyu's choice, thinking exactly of what his new partner had come up with.
"Brown hm? Do you want to be disguised as an Eevee?" Kellyn asked as Mimikyu nodded, the thought of being a fluffy, brown Eevee was something that captivated the small Ghost Pokémon.
What Kellyn did afterwards was heartwarming to all of his Pokémon watching, as Kellyn had stitched together some cream colored cotton balls made from Altaria wings, which the latter had to have shed constantly. Once the cotton balls were all stitched together, Kellyn attached it to the brown cloth, which was twice the thickness of Mimikyu's cloak, and used a black marker to make the eyes and mouth. After that, Kellyn carefully made a tail and ears out of the same brown cloth and stuffed it with cotton balls before stitching them together. Aside from the funnily drawn face, which made every Pokémon chuckle, it looked almost identical to an actual Eevee.
All of the Pokémon and Kellyn didn't avert their eyes as Mimikyu took off the Pikachu disguise and was just a shadowy blob, considering that a newly caught Mimikyu, even caught without a Friend Ball, wouldn't make a Trainer or Pokémon end up getting ill or dying, considering those were inaccurate statements that were previously reported. The team and Kellyn looked with anticipation and celebrated with joy when Mimikyu had donned the Eevee disguise.
'This is amazing…I cannot believe Kellyn took the time to make the effort just for a Pokémon like me…' Mimikyu said as Pachirisu spoke up.
'Kellyn truly is outstanding, he gives all of us love and adoration no matter what. When I was an newly hatched Pachirisu, he saved me from a burning building and when I had scars all over my body, my so-called loving previous Trainer, cast me aside. Kellyn though, took me in, I will always stand by him.' Pachirisu proudly said.
'So Kellyn has this care and concern for all his Pokémon…what a great human being he is!' Mimikyu said as Kellyn knelt down to Mimikyu.
"Well Mimikyu, I hope that you like your new disguise!" Kellyn said, a hint of nervousness in his voice.
Mimikyu happily nodded and rubbed its Eevee head against Kellyn's knee, and the Ranger happily patted Mimikyu on its head while the other Pokémon smiled. Wondering what to do with the old disguise, Kellyn turned to Mimikyu and sought the Pokémon's opinion.
"Want me to keep it, or toss it?" Kellyn asked as Mimikyu pointed a shadowy hand to the nearby trashcan.
Kellyn thought for a moment and remembered a shadowbox he had gotten a while back, remembering that he never got around to using it to display anything. Going into one of his drawers and taking it out, he placed the old disguise in, propping it up appropriately while Mimikyu looked in astonishment as the other Pokémon watched, not surprised their Trainer would do something so touching.
"Heh, I know you wanted me to toss it, but I remembered about this shadow box and figured showing the old disguise would be great to show the day you came to your new home." Kellyn said, with the last part being said proudly as Mimikyu looked up at him in wonderment.
'Kellyn wants to keep my old disguise because it signifies me coming into him and the rest of the team's life? I never thought of something like that…' Mimikyu said as Espeon gently nudged him.
'Kellyn's quite the intelligent and emotional Ranger, it makes sense he'd keep it; I'm glad to have been brought onto Kellyn's team.' Espeon said as the other Pokémon nodded in affirmation.
Kellyn proudly mounted the shadow box containing Mimikyu's costume right next to his Pokémon Ranger and Top Ranger certifications. The Ranger's Pokémon looked at it with equal appreciation and they played amongst each other until it was time for bed. Kellyn's Pokémon all hopped onto bed with him, with Mimikyu also joining them happily, as Kellyn was more than happy to emphasize to Mimikyu that the Pokémon was now a part of the rest of the team.
Mimikyu happily snuggled up next to Kellyn as the Trainer was surrounded by his Pokémon, with there being more than enough space for all of them.
"Welcome home Mimikyu." Kellyn happily said as the Pokémon and Top Ranger promptly fell asleep.
Mimikyu slept soundly that night, for the first time in a long time, as it now had a real home, with a caring Pokémon Ranger and considerate Pokémon as well. It no longer felt alone or abandoned, as Kellyn knew of Mimikyu's value and gave it the affection it deserved and wanted for so long.
