Author's Notes: Hi this is my first time uploading on , I had this idea in mind for a while so I hope you enjoy it. I know that Jason isn't a well liked character in the fandom but this is only way I could think of having this situation be possible and have someone who was kinda neutral tell the story. Please give me any advice in the reviews and I will happily accept it. Enjoy! All characters used and referred are owned by their creators
PS: bit of a warning there's a reference to sucked as a joke at one point so please keep that in mind while reading.
Chapter 1: Bustling Business Deals
Jason didn't like Mitchum Huntzbuger.
Did he have people who he maybe wasn't always on the best terms with, yes, but he never disliked them. Even his father, who he had every right to hate, he still respected him as a businessman and as a son who just wanted love from his dad.
But the media mogul sitting across from him and Richard in the older man's office just rubbed him the wrong way.
Maybe it was because of the years when working at his father's firm Mitchum always treated him like a child even when he graduated college. The sheer condescension that the man radiated towards him always rubbed him the wrong way.
He didn't even want to do this business deal, but Richard brought it up as a way to get more business.
Hell, Jason couldn't even blame Richard it was a smart move. Mitchum and Richard have been friends for decades and Richard was the one to sign Mitchum onto Floyd's firm when he worked there. So when Richard was forced out and started his own insurance company having Mitchum Huntzburger as a client with his many newspapers that needed insurance was a perfect way to bring in some cash. Not to mention that the media mogul was well known in the business world and where he went others followed leading to a myriad of clients for them.
Plus the look on his father's face when he found out about how his top client was leaving the firm for his rival's was one Jason was desperate to see.
So that led him to sit in Richard's office observing as the person in question and Richard laughed over some story he told.
"So where we're we?," Richard asked trying to get back to business.
"You and Jason offer to cover any dangers that happen at one of my many newspapers and I pay a premium of 6.5 million in return with the option of you both handling family insurance, correct?," Mitchum says in response settling back in his chair.
"That about sums it up, but I would like to talk to you about the details for the family plan, how about Friday?" Richard responds getting ready to stand and walk Mitchum out.
"How about we make it a dinner, hell why don't we bring family into it since it's about them anyway," Mitchum says as he stands up and buttons his suit jacket.
"That sounds wonderful, but Mitchum Friday night simply cannot work since that's when Emily and I have our daughter and granddaughter over for dinner, and we would hate to cancel," Richard replies in explanation to appease his hopefully future client as he and Jason stood as well.
"Oh of course Richard I know how much you love when those two visit, so why don't they come along, and we can one big family dinner together while you, Jason, and I discuss the deal. Shira and Emily can talk about China patterns or something or other, and the kids should be fine Logan is a couple years ahead of your granddaughter at Yale, yes?" At Richard's nod he continued, "Marvelous, we'll be there at seven, have Emily call Shira about the details," Mitchum said to the two as they all walked out of the office.
"Thank you Mitchum see you then," Jason says noticing Richard momentarily stunned.
"Eh no problem Digger, see you Friday," the media mogul reply's patting Jason on the shoulder before heading out.
Upon hearing his dreaded childhood nickname Jason shuddered before turning to Richard, who was still silent.
"Well I suppose I should call Emily then," the Gilmore patriarch said.
Jason nodded, "sounds good to me, and I'll start on the offer for the family plan."
"All righty then I'll join you in a bit," Richard replied before heading back into his office.
Jason was then left to himself wondering how bad Friday was going to turn out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As soon as Richard called his wife, The Gilmore household entered a time of panic with both Richard and Emily going in circles figuring out the details for the evening.
Their reaction definitely didn't calm his dread about the evening especially when he brought it up to Lorelai Thursday night.
"Friday night dinners with my parents are barely tolerable on a good day, but with guests mixed in, it's a miracle if only one of us is traumatized," Lorelai said as she sat at the kitchen island in Jason's apartment while he made dinner.
"What do you mean?" Jason asked as he sautéed some vegetable in the pan.
"Back when Rory was in high school and we had barely started these weekly dinners, my parents had her over for dinner at Christmas along with a couple of dad's business partners and my father ended up in the hospital for a heart attack," she explained almost in a nonchalant air.
"Yikes, was he okay," Jason responded before transferring the sautéed vegetables on his plate and not Lorelai's.
"Yeah, but that was one where only the golden child was present I was still in Stars Hollow", she replied before taking a bite of her veggie-less dinner.
"How do they end when you are in attendance?" Jason questioned as he wiped his hands on a kitchen towel.
"Mm, at a thanksgiving a couple years back Rory was applying for colleges and it was like that dinner in the Nutty Professor," Lorelai said eating with her mouth full.
"While I fully believe you and Rory ate like the Klump family I really hope none of you tried committing suicide," Jason said as he sat down with his plate.
"Eh, I still wanted to," she commented before eating off Jason's plate.
Jason kept this conversation in mind when he showed up to the Gilmore mansion an hour early to go over the family plan with Richard. Only to find him and Emily running around like headless chickens in anticipation of their guests.
They had barely calmed down when Lorelai showed up surprisingly early and looking especially nice.
"I knew this was an important night for you guys I thought I would dress up a little," Lorelai said when questioned by Emily.
Before Emily could respond the door bell rang and Rory came into the room.
"Hi grandma, sorry I couldn't be hear sooner I just had to wrap up some things," Rory said as she gave her coat to the maid.
"Oh your still early, and you look wonderful," Emily said as she hugged her granddaughter.
"Thank you, hey mom," Rory said, having broken the hug from her grandmother before sitting with her mom.
"Hi, you okay? You have that Dr. Cox look about you when Ben died," Lorelai asked touching her daughter's arm.
"I'm fine and I just don't want to talk about it right now," Rory replied taking her arm out of her mother's grasp.
At that moment Richard walked in from his office, "Oh Rory! When did you get hear?" He asked before reaching out to hug his granddaughter.
"Just now, how are you grandpa, nervous?" Rory inquired as she returned her grandfather's embrace.
"Oh it's nothing Jason and I can't handle, in fact I was just looking over our notes for the offer," Richard replied as he gestured to his business partner.
Suddenly the door rang and Emily's voice rang out, "Richard! There here!"
"Coming Emily!" The elder man called out before excusing himself to greet their impending guests.
"So who's coming over exactly? My parents are acting as if the Bush family is coming over," Lorelai asked, with Rory nodding in agreement of the question.
"Just some clients me and Richard are trying to snag, Mitchum practically invited himself and his family over for dinner," Jason explained as he settled himself on the other side of Lorelai on the couch, one already occupied by Rory.
"Wait, Mitchum as in Mitchum Huntzburger ?" Rory asked.
However, before Jason could confirm her notion they were interrupted.
"Digger! How are you, ya son of a bitch?" Mitchum's voice rang out as he and his family walked into the living room.
This was probably the first time Jason had seen all of the Huntzburgers together, having only met Mitchum through his father's company and even then only really talking with him through this business deal. Nonetheless, due to his status as "Floyd's son" for a good 36 years of his life people often forgot he was there and it led to him knowing a disturbing amount of information concerning Hartford socialites.
How else would he know the infamous stress smoking habits of Shira, who was picked up right off of Hicksville before surprisingly marrying Mitchum. The reason for their shocking marriage standing right next to her mother.
Honor was the eldest child of the Huntzburgers and while her status of arriving only six months after her parent's wedding, sealing the deal as to why the media mogul, and obvious playboy at the time but clandestine one now, married a cocktail waitress, she hasn't raised too many brows over her activities unlike the rest of the family.
Except for dating a man from new money who was trembling next to her.
On the other side of Honor's nervous boyfriend, his name started with a J or something like that, was the youngest, and biggest gossip, Huntzburger, Logan.
The current Eli stood bored to be here, and Jason couldn't blame him. After hearing of the many stunts the kid pulled over the years from sinking the car of the headmaster at River's boarding school to the infamous New Year's blow out he threw when his parents were out of town Jason would be bored too if he had to be at a society dinner to discuss a business deal.
Although, it wasn't as if the perfect haired blond had a choice. The only reason the prankster was here in the first place was because he sank his father's yacht in Fiji and was promptly dragged back home by his raging father at the time to try and cram a year's worth of classes at Yale within a period of a few months. Which wouldn't even be possible if he was even a dedicated student.
Jason was taken out of his thoughts when Richard began the introductions.
The elder Gilmore gestured to his daughter and granddaughter as he presented the two, "Lorelai, Rory, I don't believe you've met the Huntzburgers. This is Mitchum and his wife, Shira, along with their eldest Honor and her boyfriend Josh, and their son-"
"Logan?!" Rory exclaimed, surprised.
"A-Rory! hi," the boy in question replied, taken out of his exhaust spell.
As Jason observed the two colligates staring at each other with mixed emotions, he guessed that nothing good can come from this.
Well shit, he was really hoping this wouldn't end in too bad a disaster.
Author's Notes: So that was the first chapter of this multi-chapter fic to explained the references made when Lorelai is referring to the Nutty Professor Eddie Murphy attempts to slit his wrists in embarrassment of the dinner. Later on when she brings up doctor Cox and Ben she's referring to the season 3 episode 14 episode of scrubs. And somewhat obviously the bush family is in reference to president bush at the time this fic takes place. Please give me any advice and I hope you enjoyed this first chapter :).
