Chapter 2

Jessica and Christine were fighting with each other in a wide room in the temple while Xin was watching them, her face was covered by her hood. Christine slashed with the wooden swords that she was holding, only to be stopped by a wooden shield holded by Jessica. The two were fighting for space until Christine won, making Jessica drop her shield. Christine raised the end of the sword to Jessica's neck. "Okay you won." Jessica said while trying to push the weapon aside. "I know you don't like me, but you don't need to be so harsh."

"Really? I liked to have a sword on your throat." Christine said, sarcastically.

"You two need to be more friendly with each other. Now you will have to work side by side." Xin said

"With this goth? never!"

"With the evil queen here? never!" The two answered harshly, scaring Xin, making her flinch. Christine and Jessica went toward Xin.

"Now that you two know how to fight using your weapons, I will explain to you about chi." Xin said as the two girls sighed.

"Another lecture about ancient China story? This is the third one today, and it isn't even ten in the morning." Jessica said, sighing again. "Why the others aren't here, so you could torture them too."

"I hate to agree with Jessica, but why aren't the others here?" Christine asked.

At the Fury cafe, Flynn and Ryan were being punished by leave in the middle of their expedient on the last day. "You two will learn to not leave in your expedient again!" A short and old asian man shouted. "Now, I want this floor shining before we open today!"

"Yes, Mr. Mikata" Ryan and Flynn shouted in unison, answering the asian man. They were mopping the floor with everything they had.

"Now can you say to me why did you leave yesterday?"

The two stopped to think about what to answer him. They couldn't tell the truth, so they needed to lie to him. "We had some problems with the..." Flynn tried to invent a lie but nothing came to mind.

"Apartment." Ryan said, trying to free his friend from the situation. The two men received some suspicious looks from the old man.

"I know you two share the same apartment, so couldn't only one of you go to solve the problem?" The two looked to each other trying to find a plausible excuse.

"To be honest, there were two urgent problems. One was a problem with the rent that Flynn took care of and the other was a problem with the..." Ryan said until his mind became blank.

"Was a leak. A leak in the plumbing." Flynn said, receiving again the same suspicious looks from Mr. Mikata.

"Fine." The old man said suspiciously. "If this happens again at least tell me before you leave or you two won't need to come back." He said the last part in a menacing tone. The two sighed in relief. They were thinking about how the others were going at that moment.

At the Diyu, Siwang was meeting with one of her special yaoguais. "Houdou!" She called.

The yaoguai kneeled toward his mistress. "How can I show my loyalty for you today?" He asked.

"I think at this point all the yaoguais on the Diyu know about my attempt to free us. But there are five little problems in my way."

"Let me guess, you want me to burn the root of the problem." he said

"Right on the money my loyal warrior. I will use my power and give you a chance to open the way to my kingdom. If you triumph in your mission I will guarantee your position right by my side."

"A chance to burn everything in my way and I will have a position right by your side? We have a deal!"

"Perfect! I will open your way to the human world and give you some help."As she said a group of weak yaoguais entered, her hand started to shine, then a fissure appeared in the air and sucked the yaoguais.

"Do you think he will be enough?" The voice in the shadow said.

"If the rangers fight as a team? No. But now, they are weak and don't fight together. And even if they do, with the spell we used Xiezhi as a test subject all the fear he collects will come right to me, even if he fails."

"By the way, what happened to him after the second spell we tried?" The voice said.

"He will be able to fight in some time, maybe a month or three." She said.

"Then I think I will need to find another yaoguai to play bowling" The voice said sadly.

Back at the temple the three girls were in a dark room, Jessica and Christine were sitting looking at a slideshow and Xin was standing next to the slide. "-And then you can canalize the chi to your body or even to your weapons and make your attacks more powerful!" Xin was saying, even though the other two looked bored by the lecture. "Now I want you two to train..." Xin was interruped by a beep coming from the two girls' morphers.

"What is this sound?" Jessica asked as she pulled her morpher from her pocket, she was wearing jeans and a pink t-shirt.

"This mean that yaoguais just came to our world." Christine said, receiving a strange look from Jessica.

"How did you know that?" She asked.

"Xin teold us during the lecture about all the functions of our morphers. you were listening to it, weren't you?"

"This doesn't matter now. If yaoguais are here we need to stop them. Where they are?" Jessica asked

"Well... I don't know but maybe if I use my magic I can locate them." Xin said as she started to focus. She almost fell but quickly Christine holded her. "They are at the park on the south of the city." Her voice was weaker than before.

"What happened?" Christine asked concerned.

"Som... Sometimes, when I use much of my magic, I feel bad and pass out."

"But yesterday you didn't pass out even with you using your powers to teleport us twice." Jessica said.

"It is because I was working on a project with Xiezhi's horn. I thought it wouldn't drain much energy but I think I was wrong. I will be fine, you need to stop the yaoguais." Xin said. When she finished she extended her arm toward the two girls as it started to shine.

"Don't you dare to teleport us! We will stay here with you." Jessica said as she tried to reach Xin to stop her. She couldn't reach her before a gray light covered her and Christine, making them disappear in the middle air.

Xin fell to the ground. She was trying to stand up, she did it slowly. "I think it is better to call the others."

In a park almost out of town, Mark and Alice were having a picnic near a lake. "I said I would make something you would like, didn't I?" Mark said.

"Okay, I forgive you for yesterday." Alice said. "Only because you found a park with a beautiful sight. But if you leave me alone for your online friends, I will make you regret it."

"Consider me warned." Mark said as he took a bunch of grapes from the basket and gave it to his girlfriend.

"By the way, why did you take so much time to come back? You said you were going to be back at two o'clock but when you came back it was almost five." Alice said, as a worried look covered her face.

"I was..."Mark got surprised by the question, he didn't have any ready answer to this question, he could say he was only a spectator during the rangers fight against the monster but he didn't know if someone had watched the fight or even if the battle was something that the people were aware of. Anything that could reveal his identity would be risky. "Caught in a car accident." He lied.

"Oh my gosh! Why didn't you tell me? Are you okay? You didn't look hurt when you came back" His attempt to not raise suspicion, just raised supicion.

"It was nothing..." He tried to say.

"If it was nothing you would be home earlier!" She said, almost shouting, interrupting her boyfriend.

"It was when I was going back home, some crazy guy crashed into the bus and then I needed to wait for another." He lied again, this time calming her down.

"You almost scared me to death!" She said as she took her hand to her heart.

"Well, now I think we should enjoy this beautiful sunday before we go back to work tomorrow." He said as he took his hand and hugged her. "Nothing can break the harmony here." The two got closer to each other to enjoy the moment. Seconds afterward a fissure appeared in the middle air scaring them.

"What hell is this?" Alice said trying to hide herself behind her boyfriend.

"I think you should..." Mark said, before being interrupted by a group of spirits leaving from the fissure.

One of the spirits landed in front of the two before transforming himself. He had the appearance of a humanoid dog, all his body was covered by black fur except by his neck which had an orange light that shone like fire. "It's time for me to burn this whole place down!" As he said the other spirits landed and transformed into simple yaoguais.

"Run, Alice!" Mark shouted, then Alice started to run trying to search for a safe place while Mark stayed in place looking at the biggest yaoguai. "So you are another servant of Siwang, aren't you?" He said, this time without fear.

"So I suppose you are one of the little problems who are interfering in my mistress' plans. So it's time to reduce you to ashes!" When he finished talking a gray light appeared on Mark's right. As the light vanished, where before was the light were Christine and Jessica. While Jessica was standing, Christine was looking like she had been holding someone in her arms, even though there is nothing in her arms except for her morpher, both girls had a worried face.

"What happened?" Mark said, worried, as he looked at the girls.

"It's nothing you have to worry about, neither us for now." Jessica said, she looked at Christine while saying the last part. She looked back at the yaoguai. "For now we have a bone to pick with this yaoguai."

"It's morphin time!" Mark said. As he drew his morpher, Christine stood up, ready to fight. All the three opened their morphers and inserted their discs.

"Zodiac awaken!" all the three said in unison as they spun their discs.

Jessica was standing inside a chinese temple with her zodiac spirit. Her zodiac spirit flew up before turning down and collided with her. A pink light covered her body except her head. The head of her zodiac spirit, this time with the height of a human, appeared behind her with an open mouth, when the head reached her it closed its mouth with her inside before it shone and vanished. Jessica now was with her suit except for the helmet. The same boar head appeared again this time smaller, with the height of a head. It opened its mouth before closing it in her head. It shone as it transformed into her helmet

Christine was standing inside in the same temple with her zodiac spirit. Her zodiac spirit flew up before turning down and collided with her. A blue light covered her body except her head. The head of her spirit, this time with the height of a human, appeared behind her with an open mouth, when the head reached her it closed its mouth with her inside before it shone and vanished. Christine now was with her suit except for the helmet. The same wolf head appeared again this time smaller, with the height of a head. It opened its mouth before closing it in her head. It shone as it transformed into her helmet.

Mark was standing inside the same temple with her zodiac spirit. Her zodiac spirit flew up before turning down and collided with him. A red light covered his body except his head. The head of his spirit, this time with the height of a human, appeared behind him with an open mouth, when the head reached him it closed its mouth with him inside, before it shone and vanished. It shone as it transformed into her helmet.

The three were standing in front of the yaoguais. "End with them!" The biggest yaoguai ordered the other yaoguais. They did as he said.

Jessica went toward the ordinary yaoguais. She kicked one in the chest, punched another where it face would be. When one tried to stab her with its spear, she turned her body in a way that the spear didn't hit her. She then held the spear by the handle and pulled the yaoguai which was holding it and then summoned her morpher and a pink disc, she opened the morpher and inserted the disc. "Zodiac weapon boar shield!" She said as she spun the disc. Her morpher vanished as her weapon appeared in her hand. She then stabbed the yaoguai she pulled, throwing it into another one.

Christine hadn't moved, worried about Xin situation, and then got surronded by a group of yaoguais. One tried to swing it spear, Christine jumped, avoiding the spear, and the did a flying kick in the yaoguai which swung the spear, then kicked the spear of another making it hit a third before punching the second in the chest. She then summoned her morpher and a blue disc, opened the morpher and inserted the disc. "Zodiac weapon wolf saber!" She said as her morpher vanished and her weapon appeared in her hand. A yaoguai rised its spear trying to hit Christine from above, she used her weapon to block the attack, then used her weapon to remove the spear from yaoguai hand, allowing her to slash a line of yaoguais in the chest.

Mark went toward the special yaoguai. He tried to punch him only to be blocked by his hand. The yaoguai used the chance and punched him in the chest, throwing him some meters away. Mark got up again then summoned his morpher and a red disc, he opened the morpher then inserted the disc. "Zodiac weapon monkey staff!" He said as his morpher vanished and his weapon appeared in his hand. "Let's see if you can hold a stronger attack." As he said he ran toward the yaoguai. The yaoguai held the staff, Mark used the opportunity to drive a kick in the yaoguai chest, but he was still holding Mark's staff.

"So you want to play with fire." The yaoguai said as his throat shone brighter, he opened his mouth, as the light started to decrease a fire sphere appeared in his mouth then he fired it at Mark, making him fly meters away.

"So... You are a houdun, aren't you?" Mark asked as he got up with the help of his staff.

"Well, we have someone who did their homework. Unfortunately this won't be enough to save you."

"For now your bark seems worse than your bite to me." He joked

"So you shall see how my bite is the worst you will ever see. Not that you will see any other after our fight." Houdun said as he went toward the ranger. He used his claws and slashed Mark across the chest, he tried to do it again but Mark blocked the attack using his staff. Mark tried to attack with his staff but before he could hit Houdun, he opened his mouth and fired another fire sphere at Mark. He flew some meters away.

The yaoguai prepared another fire sphere but before he could fire it, he got hit in the back by Christine making sparks fly from him. He turned to face Christine and fired the sphere at her. She dodged it. He slashed her with his claws from the two hands forming a trail in the form of an 'X' in her chest. He used the opportunity to fire another sphere, this time hitting her. She flew meters away.

He prepared another sphere and fired it. It was mere inches from Christine when something blocked it. The smoke of the sphere explosion was making it hard to see what or who blocked it. As the smoke vanished was clear who had blocked the attack, Jessica was in front of Christine with her shield raised. "I think you forget someone." She said.

Christine sighed. "Why from all the world that could have saved me, was just you." She muttered to herself.

Jessica advanced toward the yaoguai, when she reached close enough she tried to stab him. The yaoguai used a slash from his right hand to block the shield and put it aside before slash her with his free hand.

"Is this everything you have?"

Meanwhile Flynn and Ryan were doing their work at the cafe. Flynn was taking the order of a customer while Ryan was serving a table. Ryan's phone rang. Ryan was going to take it but was stopped by Mr. Mikata who took the phone from his hand, but not before Ryan could see who was calling. "You know the rules about cell phones at work." The old man said

"I know, but it is something important." Ryan replied. Hearing his friend, Flynn, looked to the two that were having an argument.

"Then what is so important, that you cannot wait until the end of your office hours?" Ryan didn't know what to say. He already used all his excuses that day. He was trying to create one when the old man looked to the number at the phone in his hand. He answered the phone. "Hello. Why are you calling my employee now?" He said, the person on the other side said something that made his face change from curiosity to understanding. He gave the phone to Ryan. "You two can take your break now." He said, calm.

"Seriously?" Ryan asked then took the phone from his boss' hands. He put the phone on his ear.

"Ryan?" The voice on the other side said, it was Xin.

"What did happen?"

"The others are fighting a yaoguai in the park in the South of the city. " Xin said worried.

"Flynn, we need to hurry!" he said as the two started running.

Mr. Mikata was watching them run with a happy face. "You grew well... Xin"

Back at the park the three rangers were on the ground, the yaoguai was ready to fire another fireball. "Any last wor..." He was hit in the back by a Ryan's hammer. and then hit by Flynn's nunchaku in the chest.

"Sorry for being late for the party" Ryan said as he rested his hammer on his shoulder.

"We were stuck in our work, but now we are here." Flynn said. The others got up and went side by side with the two.

"Better late than never." Christine said. "He was able to block against each of ours attacks." A idea came to Mark's mind.

"Wait. I have an idea. He was able to block our attacks separately, but when Flynn and Ryan attacked together he didn't show any resistance. Maybe if we attack together he won't be able to block our attacks." He looked at each ranger. "Flynn and Ryan attack by the right, Christine and I attack by the left."

"What do I do?" Jessica inquired.

"Jessica, you use your shield to keep those fire balls away from the rest." Mark answered.

"Do you know I am hearing all your plan?" Houdun questioned, ironic.

"Doesn't matter if you hear us if you don't have a way of block it." Mark said as the rangers started to circulate the yaoguai. The yaoguai didn't step back. Flynn swung his nunchaku to hit Houdun. He holded the weapon with his hand. Flynn spun to open space and Ryan hit the yaoguai on the chest. As Houdun released his grip from Flynn's weapon he used the opportunity to hit him with the nunchaku. The yaoguai release some sparks from his body after each attack. He steped back by the power of the attacks.

The yaoguai fired a fire ball at them. Jessica jumped in the way of the fireball, with her shield raised. As the fire ball hit the shield, a few meters from the yaoguai. A dense smoke covered Jessica's body. Houdun rushed toward the smoke only to hit nothing, he stopped when the smoke had faded away, he looked to each of his sides searching for the girl. He was stabbed in the back by Jessica, who had used the smoke to go behind him.

Christine ran toward him and slashed across his chest. He was wielded by the series of attacks he received. Mark used the monster distraction, swung his staff hitting the yaoguai head. The yaoguai stepped back, he was panting. "Okay... I will... Admit... You are stronger than I thought... But I still have energy to fight."

"How do we take him down for good?" Jessica questioned. "He isn't going even with our normal attacks."

"I have an idea." Christine focused, holded her blade horizontally, with the blade facing the yaoguai, and passed his right hand on the saber. When she had done it her blade shone in a light blue. She rushed toward him. As she reached close enough to slash him, her zodiac spirit head appreared on his hand, it looked like the head was holding the sword. "Zodiac final strike: Wolf Slash! She slashed the yaoguai leaving a blue trail of energy behind her blade. As sparks started to cover his body he fell and Christine turned his back toward the yaoguai. He exploded. Christine fell to her knees.

"Christine!" Flynn yelled in horror before helping her stand. He supported the body on his shoulder.

"What was that?" Mark asked, amazed by what happened.

"I..." Christine tried to answer the question but she hadn't the strength to say much without needing to take air. "Only... Used my chi." She received question looks from the other rangers.

"Your what?" Flynn questioned.

"Chi, Xin taught us how to use it earlier." Christine replaied, weak. "But I think I was the only one learning something." All the looks turned to Jessica. She tried to look like she knew about that. She failed.

"Well I think we need to see Xin, when we have time." Ryan said as he exchanged looks with Flynn.

Where Houdun's body had exploded a green smoke formed.

"What is happening?!" Siwang inquired. "Why do I received so little energy? Before he died I could feel much more energy than I received. You told me that with that spell even if my yaoguais get destroyed I would receieve the fear energy from them!" She had been watching all the fight in an energy sphere that was in the middle of the room.

"Well, as I already told you I was a estimating..." The voice in the shadows replied before being interrupted by a vision on the sphere. "Look!" She turned her gaze to the sphere and was surprised by the vision. "I think this isn't finished yet"

Back at the park, while the rangers were celebrating, the smoke started to expand. "Guys." Christine called the attention of the others. They looked to where the monster had been, only to see that the smoke was now big enough to cover a building. The smoke took the form of Houdun's shadow. The shadow transformed into a giant version of Houdun.

"Now I really the have power to burn all this world." The rangers got scared by the size of their enemy.

"How we will defeat him." Mark questioned. The rangers' zodiac spirits materialized in front of them. Christine's got near her. The spirit shone and transformed into a disc.

"What is this?" She asked as she took the disc. The yaoguai raised his foot. to smash the rangers. They crouched in fear, except by Jessica, who stood still and raised her shield. The yaoguai tried to smash the rangers, but Jessica used her shield and all her strength to stop the yaoguai's foot from smash them.

"I don't know how much time I can hold it." Jessica warned the others. Christine looked at the disc on her hand, she had only one option remaining. She called her morpher, opened it, inserted the disc, spun it. The morpher shone. A light left the morpher then it shone brighter. The light transformed into Christine's zodiac spirit before it started to expand. As The spirit expanded it forced the yaouai to step back. The spirit stopped expanding. The spirit shone again. As the light faded away the spirit now was in a solid form. Now it had enough size to fight against the yaoguai.

"A zord?!" Christine said, amazed. Her morpher started to shine. She opened it again, the keys '0' and '3' were shining. She pressed the keys, in order '03' . She became a light that went toward the zord.

Inside the zord the light transformed back to Christine. She was standing in a room that looked like the inside of a ancient chinese temple. "I am in a zord!" She was even more amazed. "Now it's time to make this a big fight". Outside the zord, it was face to face with the yaoguai. It rushed toward him. The zord tackled the yaoguai, and he stepped back. The zord bit his arm. He shook his arm to throw the zord away.

"Is this all that you have?" Houdun questioned, ironic.

"Well, if you want more is time to bring more." Mark's zodiac spirit appeared as well as the other rangers' spirits. They shone and transformed in disc from their respective color. Each ranger took the disc and called their morpher. Each opened their morpher, inserted the disc. Four lights left the morphers and then each ranger's spirit apeared in their zord form, all of them had similar size. The zord roared as the rangers' morphers shone, Mark's morpher was with the key '0' and '5' shinnying, in Jessica's was with the '0' and '1', Flynn's keys was only '1' but it was shining brighter, Ryan's were '1' and '2'. Each pressed the shining keys of their morpher, Mark pressed '05', Jessica '02', Flynn '11' and Ryan '12'. All of them became a light with the same color as their suit, and went toward their respective zord.

"I am in a zord" Mark said amazed when he entered his red monkey zord, Jessica went toward the pink boar zord, Flynn to the yellow tiger zord, Ryan to the green ox zord.

"Now this is a good fight." Flynn said as he made his zord rush toward the yaoguai. His zord slashed him with its claws. The yaoguai stepped back. He prepared a fireball and fired it at the tiger zord. Ryan's ox zord and Jessica's boar zord charged toward the yaoguai, he holded the zords by the horns and threw them at the tiger zord. He started to walk toward the zords. He got hit by a kick from monkey zord on the back. He turned to face the zord who was jumping from one side to another to evade the yaoguai's attacks.

"Guys I don't know how much time I can keep him busy." Mark warned. Houdun was about to hit the zord with his claws when the wolf zord bit his neck. He started shaking his neck to free himself from the zord. He threw it at the monkey zord.

"How will we defeat him?" Christine asked. Her morpher as well as the others started to shine, the morphers were on a pedestal on the center of the zord cockpit. Mark opened his morpher and some keys were shining.

"If this is what I think I have an idea. Everyone onpened their morpher and pressed the shining keys" He stated as he pressed '201' on the morpher. The others did the same.

All the zord went side by side. The monkey zord jumped, its legs bent, its knees facing the ground, its arms folded on its shoulders. The ox zord and tiger zord's legs bent and their bodies flipped upright. The tiger zord's tail detached from it body. The back from the zord attached to the monkey zord's knees, forming the right and left leg, ox and tiger respectively. The hind and front legs from the wolf zord and the tiger zord connected. The wolf zord tail detached. They connected to the monkey zord forming the right and left arm. The monkey zord's mouth opened revealing a humanoid face. The monkey and tiger zord's tail attached one to another forming a handle, the height of half the megazord, since the monkey zord's tail was the same leght as it height, then the wolf zord's tail atached to the end of the tiger zord's tail forming a spear. The megazord was holding the spear with its right hand.

"Zodiac Megazord ready!" All the five exclaimed as they appeared in the same cockpit in a formation of 'V' with Mark on the center, the girls on his right, and the guys on his left.

"Do you think that this will be enough?" Houdun mocked. The yaoguai charged toward the megazord. When he was near enough the megazord hit him with the tusk from it left arm. Sparks flew from the yaoguai. "Okay, maybe this will be a little hard."

"We are just starting." Mark stated. The megazor stabbed him with the spear, raised it closer to the yaoguai and kicked him with the right leg, sending the yaoguai to the ground. He was getting up.

"Let's see if you can pass through my flamed." He challenged. The megazord raised its spear while the yaoguai charged a fireball with all his strength

"What do you think of finishing this?" Mark said, as the others nodded, he turned to Christine. "Do you think you can do that again?"

"I guess I can try."

"So let's go." The magazord charged, holding the spear with the two 'hands'. The spear end shone in a blue light. The yaoguai fired. In the end of the spear a translucid wolf head appeared. As the fireball reached near the megazord raised the spear to the sky and slashed, diagonally from the right to the left. The slash collided with the fireball, they were fighting for space. The megazord won, cutting through the fire, making it dissipate. When the megazord finished the slash a blue cut moved through the sky. It slashed the yaoguai. Sparks flew from him. As he started to fall the megazord turned it back to him. The yaoguai exploded.

"We did it!" Flynn cheerfully hit his hand with Ryan's.

"This is what I call a big dog fight." Mark celebrated. They leave the megazord then the zords separeted before returning to their spirits forms, back to their owner's morpher.

"I..." Christine said weakly, making everyone turn to her. She fell. Mark holded her before she could hit the ground.

"Are you okay?" He asked, worried.

"Yeah, I am only tired. She replied.

"Even if you were okay, what you aren't, you should at least see Xin to see if it has some relation to that chi." He advised her.

"Okay, I will go back to the temple." She said upset.

"Cool, but me and Ryan need to go back to work." Flynn said as he and Ryan started to walk away.

At the temple Xin had been looking at the forest near the temple, with her hood, when Christine reached. "So what happened?" Xin asked without taking her look out of the forest.

"We won and all, I even used my chi, but I am not feeling good..." She said as she almost fell. Xin holded her.

"This is what happens when you use chi without proper train, or use much of it. Judging your case must be the first case, you only need to relax a little." Xin said.

"So can I go back home?" Christine said getting up. She was interrupted by Xin hand holding her leather jacket.

"Before you go I want to know one thing."

"What it is?"

"What did happen between you and Jessica? I have known you two only for two days but it is crystal clear that there is something wrong. So what did happen." Christine got upset, she didn't wanted to answer, then an idea came to her mind.

"I will say everything if you let me see your face." Xin sighed.

" I wouldn't want to show so fast my face but know what is between you and Jessica is more important." She removed her hood. Christine's eyes widened by the sight of the burned face of Xin, she took some more seconds before noting that Xin looked younger than her.

"What happened to your face?!" She asked. Xin looked down, almost crying.

"Was just an accident. My face got burned when I was five." She said holding the tears. "But now that I showed my face I want to know what happened to you and Jessica."
