Deer Park
Chapter 6
Mike and Hannah were fishing so Christine went in and began dinner. She was looking through the mail when she found a letter from a doctor's office with Mike's name on it. She would never open it but she did put it in their bedroom so the girls didn't see it.
He was in the shower before she remembered the letter, so she sat it on his nightstand and got her own pajamas out. The letter made her nervous but Mike had always been a private person. He would share anything with Christine, as long as he got to read it first. And he did the same with her. He never read her mail until she shared it with him. Finally, he came out of the bathroom and was towel drying his hair.
"Mike, there's a letter from a doctor in Detroit. Its on the nightstand. I moved it in here so the girls didn't see it and forgot to tell you. I'm gonna take my shower." Christine said before giving him a kiss on temple. She grabbed her pajamas and went in, wanting to give Mike privacy.
She wanted to be there for her husband if something was wrong but she also knew he was very private about personal things. She gave him as long as possible; finding various things to do like conditioning her hair and shaving her legs. Christine finally walked out and smiled at Mike, who was laying in bed, reading a book. As soon as she settled next to him, he handed her the letter. Upon reading it, it confirmed that he was completely healthy.
"Well, I am glad. I knew you said it was always protected and I believe you but I was still concerned." Christine answered.
"I was a little too." Mike admitted.
"So, what now?" Christine asked.
"I know that it would be natural for us to…but I really like how things have been going. I would much rather it being natural. Not forced. I think if we did tonight, it would almost seem like an obligation." Mike remarked.
"I want it to be special too. Not just a random Tuesday night." Christine replied.
"Thanks." Mike said as he took his reading glasses off.
"Mike…are you sure you are happy here? I keep thinking you must be getting bored. I suppose I can't figure out how you wouldn't be." Christine asked.
"I can see where you would think that but I love how peaceful it is. The outside world is a mess. Its easy here. I know it won't stay this way, but for now its almost sacred, I suppose." Mike said.
"Alright. I've just been worried. We really love having you here, you know?" Christine asked as she turned her side and put her hand on Mike's chest. He put an arm around her and she cuddled close.
"And I love being here. I'm not going anywhere, I promise." Mike answered. He gave her a kiss before shutting his light off and quickly falling asleep.
Christine still wanted to overthink everything but maybe she just needed to take everything at face value with Mike. He did seem happy and relaxed. He was sleeping good. And now she knew he would remain healthy. That was the most important thing.
