Chapter 4: A New Beginning
It's been a rather hectic time for Peter Parker, considering all that he's gone through recently. Just when you think it couldn't get any crazier, he and his Aunt May now find themselves moving in with the X-Men of all people. Peter and Aunt May were about to lose their home since they couldn't keep up with all the bills, but thanks to Rogue telling Charles Xavier about the situation, they won't have to worry about being homeless.
Currently, they were all flying on the X-Men Blackbird, and they were soon arriving to the X-Mansion which was coming into their sights. For Aunt May, she couldn't believe how fast her life was changing. She's known for quite a while that Peter was Spider-Man, something that was even unknown on Peter's side, but what she didn't know was she would be going from her own house to a state of the art mansion.
She looked out the windows of the Blackbird, seeing the X-Mansion and saying, "You all have a lovely home." she complimented, making Jubilee grin.
"Just wait until you see the inside," replied Jubilee. "You're gonna love it!"
Moments later, the Blackbird would land, as everyone would make their exits. Once they entered the mansion, the only one who looked absolutely lost was Aunt May, but that's to be expected. Peter has been here a couple of times as Spider-Man, so he mostly knows his way around already.
"Would you like for us to give you a tour, May?" Charles asked, as May would nod.
"Yes, please." said Aunt May. "A tour would definitely help myself in getting used to this."
Charles fully understood what Aunt May was trying to say. "Very well. Hank, Jean, Storm, and Scott, please assist me in showing May around."
"It's the least we could do," Jean responded.
"Won't be a problem at all." Hank added, but Scott showed some unwillingness. It had nothing to do with Aunt May, but it did have something to do with another person in their group.
"What about Deadpool? You trust him enough to let him wander around by himself?" Scott asked Charles.
"I'd have to agree with Scott here," added Storm. "Deadpool is quite erratic, to say the least." she finished.
"Logan will keep an eye on him. Also, if Wade does decide to try to do something, I'm sure Logan would take great pleasure in beating him up." Charles explained, making Logan smirk.
"You're giving me permission to slice and dice him? Best news I've heard all day." said Logan, as Deadpool would roll his eyes.
"Sheesh, you people really have no faith in me to not blow something up, huh?" Deadpool pointed out, acting like he was hurt by how everyone felt about him. "I now see what my family truly thinks of me."
Logan let out a snort at Deadpool's comment, trying to hold it in since he found it utterly ridiculous. "Family? Really?"
"Don't act like we're not!" Deadpool shouted, dramatically pointing at Logan.
"In your dreams maybe…" Jubilee muttered, but Deadpool caught what she said.
"I heard that!"
As the three were beginning to argue, Charles started to rub his forehead, letting out a deep, deep sigh of embarrassment. "May, I apologize for the ruckus. I think it's best if we go on this tour now."
"You read my mind," replied May, as she, Charles, Hank, Storm, and Jean would get away from the craziness. Logan, Deadpool, and Jubilee would continue to argue, which left, Peter, Rogue, and Gambit alone.
"Yeeaaah, I'm not staying around to listen to this." Peter spoke, clearly not wanting to hear this argument anymore.
"Ah'm with ya." Rogue agreed, the two now walking away together, leaving Gambit to watch.
As Peter and Rogue began to walk through the hallways, the two would decide to chat for a little bit. "Soooo, uh, Peter. Ah can call ya Peter, right?" asked Rogue, making Peter shrug.
"Yeah, you can call me Peter. It's not like my secret identity matters here anyway." he told her, since he knew the secret identity thing for him was pretty much dead, just concerning the X-Men, of course.
"Well, how are ya feelin' so far?" inquired Rogue, clearly being curious. "Even if you are in a mansion now, Ah imagine leaving your childhood home still ain't easy."
Peter gave Rogue a slow nod. "I'm not gonna lie, you'd be correct on that part. My childhood home will always be a part of me, but sooner or later, I had to make myself come to the conclusion that trying to pay for it simply wasn't going to work anymore." he admitted. "It's a tough pill to swallow, but beyond that, I should be thanking you, though."
Rogue tilted her head in confusion. "Thanking me? For what?"
"You're the one who told the professor about my living situation. If it wasn't for that, then I honestly have no idea where my Aunt May and I would be right now. So, because of this, I'm saying thank you." Peter told Rogue, making the girl smile.
"Ah couldn't just let you and your aunt be homeless. That would go against all of my values along with the X-Men's values." she responded, playfully punching Peter's arm. "Hearing your story made me realize how much you go through on a daily basis, so me helping you is the least Ah could do."
This time, Rogue's comment would make Peter smile, which would make him say, "I knew there was a reason why you're my favorite person in the X-Men." he joked, making Rogue laugh a little bit.
"Well, Ah'm truly flattered, and just to let ya know, Ah'll never get tired of hearing you say that." Rogue told Peter, giving him a wink. This would end their conversation, as Rogue would leave to see if Charles needed any additional help in giving Aunt May a tour around the mansion. This left Peter to himself.
Or, at least, that's what it seemed like.
Suddenly, somebody would clear their throat, beginning to sing a song since he saw how the conversation between Peter and Rogue went.
Ladies and gentlemen, Deadpool would start to sing.
"I can see what's happening." Deadpool began, which made Peter turn around in confusion.
"What?" replied Peter.
"And they don't have a clue," Deadpool continued.
Peter raised an eyebrow. "Who?"
"They'll fall in love and here's the bottom line, our trio's down to two." Deadpool added, holding up two fingers.
"What in the world are you talking about?" Peter questioned. He was trying to follow along, but the whole trio line when there was no trio in sight was really making him become perplexed.
On the other side, Deadpool wouldn't stop his reign of terror. "The sweet caress of twilight, there's magic everywhere, and with all this romantic atmosphere… DISASTER'S IN THE AIIIIRRRRRRRRR!" He wasn't stopping. Deadpool was singing his heart out, and now Peter was becoming annoyed.
"HUH?!" Peter shouted, still not able to follow anything Deadpool was trying to say.
But that didn't matter.
Bring it home, Deadpool!
"CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE TOOOONIIIIIIGHT?! THE PEACE THE EVENING BRRRIIIINGSSS!"
"DEADPOOL!" Peter exclaimed at the top of his lungs, finally causing Deadpool to stop his live performance. "What are you trying to say?!"
That's when Deadpool put an arm on Peter's shoulder, wanting to paint the whole picture for him. "Peter, my boy, what I'm trying to say is you and Rogue are in love."
Peter's eyes widened immediately at this accusation, taking a few steps back and looked at Deadpool like he was crazy. "Are you insane?!"
Deadpool thought about it, putting his hand on his own chin, as he looked like he began to ponder Peter's question. "Well, yes, I am actually insane, but-"
"First of all," Peter interrupted, "Rogue and I are just friends, so this whole thing about you saying we love each other... it's simply crazy!"
Deadpool acted like he understood where Peter was coming from. "You know what, Pete? You're right. I'm jumping the gun on this right now. A more logical thing to say would be that you and Rogue will eventually grow to love each other. And if I were in your shoes, I wouldn't turn that down!"
"For his sake, he better turn it down."
Another person would come into this conversation, and this person would be Gambit. He saw all the recent events by staying close by. Peter and Deadpool would turn around to look at Gambit, who had a very serious look on his face.
"Ahhhh, yes. Hey, Pete, remember when I said disaster's in the air? Well, this is the disaster." Deadpool honestly told him, since Gambit had a thing for Rogue.
Peter looked at Gambit, then back at Deadpool. "Are you saying Gambit and Rogue are dating?"
"Nope, but they don't have to be dating for something to turn into a disaster." Deadpool pointed out, and in all seriousness, he was only trying to help Peter in this case.
"Let's make one thing clear," Gambit spoke, his intense look on Peter never wavering. "If you try to make any moves on Chere, then your experience here at this mansion ain't gonna be pleasant."
Hearing Gambit's statement, Deadpool had to put in his two cents, now looking directly at Peter. "You see, me personally, I wouldn't take this level of disrespect."
Was Deadpool instigating? You better believe it!
Peter sighed loudly at this whole situation. "Gambit, I'm only gonna say this one more time. Rogue and I are just friends." he told him, having a small pause. "But with that being said, you're not in the right to tell me what to do if you guys aren't dating, nor are you in the right to act like you own Rogue." Clearly, Peter was not in the mood for this nonsense. By this time, Deadpool had found a random chair and was eating a bag of popcorn due to watching all this drama. It seems like his instigation techniques worked.
Gambit wouldn't take too kindly to Peter's words. "What did you say to me?" he asked, coming closer to Peter and got right in front of his face.
"Did I stutter?" Peter replied, not backing down from Gambit.
One sound would make all of this end, though.
SNIKT!
"I advise for you two boneheads to be done with your little soap opera before things get really ugly." Logan told them, as his claws were fully revealed. Peter and Gambit heard Logan's words, but the two were still in an intense stare down. This would last for a few more moments, before Gambit would finally end it.
"Tsk. Whatever." Gambit said, now walking away from the whole situation, as Peter, Deadpool, and Logan could only watch. Eventually, Logan would shake his head.
"If this is a sign of things to come, then it might've been better for you to be homeless, Bub." Logan told Peter, retracting his claws.
"Okay, Wolvie," Deadpool said, raising his index finger in the air, "That's a bit harsh to say, don't ya think?" As crazy as he was, Deadpool did have a heart.
Kinda.
"Hmph." That was all Logan could say, before officially walking away. Peter looked down at the floor, feeling all kinds of emotions right now. This would make Deadpool come near Peter and pat him on the back.
"Don't let him get to ya, Pete. Having a way with words isn't Logan's strong suit." Deadpool explained. Obviously, Peter knew that already, but the comment still hurts nonetheless. He didn't say anything back to Deadpool, so now, the merc with a mouth was trying to cheer him up.
"Ooh! I know what'll make you feel better! How about getting some tickets to the new Lion King movie? Fun fact, that's where I got my song from!"
(Author's Note: Since both of these series are set in the 90's, The Lion King would be considered a new movie around this time, lol)
"I'm gonna have to pass. Thanks for the invite, though." Peter told him, and he genuinely meant his thanks, but recent events have made him mentally tired. Finally, Peter would walk away, leaving Deadpool on his own.
"B-but The Lion King is a great movie! It would definitely cheer you up! Peter! Peter!" Deadpool continued to call out Peter's name, but his shouts would fall on deaf ears.
Nighttime
Peter and Aunt May were shown to their new rooms. In Peter's case, he hasn't gotten out of his room since he's been introduced to it. He was lying on his bed, having his hands behind his head while looking up at the ceiling. It would remain this way for a few more moments, before hearing a knock on his door.
"Who is it?" Peter asked, now sitting up on his bed.
"Your favorite person in the X-Men!" responded Rogue. Honestly, Peter would prefer to be left alone, but he wasn't going to say no to Rogue coming in. He felt like that would be rude.
"Come in," Peter told her, with Rogue soon opening the door and entering his room. "What's up?" Peter asked.
"Ya feel like doing somethin'? Like, explorin' the city or goin' to the mall?" Rogue suggested. "Figured it would be best for ya to not only get used to the mansion, but what's outside the mansion too."
Peter didn't reply immediately. On one hand, he could definitely get some fresh air, but on the other hand, he didn't really feel like doing anything right now. "I don't know, Rogue… I'm not sure if I really feel like it right now."
Rogue noticed Peter's mood wasn't the greatest, but she didn't exactly know why. "Everything okay?"
"I'm fine," Peter assured, although, he was indeed not fine. "Just have a lot on my mind, that's all."
While it was clear to Rogue that Peter didn't want to talk about what was bothering him, she would try to tackle this situation with a different approach. "Well, in my opinion, it's better to get your mind off some things instead of bein' in your room all day." Rogue said, offering her gloved hand to Peter, showing a smile. "You know Ah'm right."
Peter looked at Rogue's hand, and in this moment, all he could think about was what Gambit said to him. But this was nothing, right? Once again, Peter and Rogue were only friends. It's not weird for friends to hang out.
After going through multiple debates in his mind, Peter accepted Rogue's hand and stood up. "Okay, you win." he said, acknowledging his defeat and showed a small smile. "Let's have some fun."
Rogue was happy to see Peter having a change of heart. "That's the spirit, sugah!"

Author's Note: I can't believe it myself, guys. Chapter 4 is finally done, and now, I can move on to chapter 5, which WON'T take over two years to make like this chapter did. Once again, I'm sorry. By the way, I'm sure you guys have heard X-Men TAS is coming back as X-Men '97 on Disney Plus. I'm hyped! I have high expectations for the show, since it's said that it'll pick up right where the original series left off. Let's hope the new show still has the same magic the old one had.
Anyway, this wasn't necessarily the longest chapter, but I do think a decent amount of things happened here. It's a lead up to the next chapter where Peter and Rogue will continue to bond.
