Chapter 1
A New World
It was another night at the convenience store. I, Subaru Natsuki, was just idly browsing through some manga. Something that anyone in high school would do. One manga in particular stood out to me. It was called Black Clover. It was about some kid who couldn't use magic in a world where magic was the way of life.
"I see where this is going. This is how they suck you in." I said to myself.
Despite his lack of magic, he still wanted to achieve his dream of becoming the Wizard King. The greatest magic user in the Clover Kingdom.
"How the heck is he going to become the Wizard King when he can't even use magic!?" I said to myself.
'If only I could be in a world full of magic.' I thought to myself.
I looked out the window of the convenience store and saw a couple walking on the sidewalk.
'Two people walking together at night? I hope they enjoy each other's company!' I thought.
I took the manga to the front counter, along with some snacks. After paying for everything, I walked out and went straight home.
Once there, I stayed up all night reading my newly acquired manga. Since it was summer vacation, I could get away with it. I soon became addicted to Black Clover. Before I knew it, I had read almost the whole series in less than a month.
...
I was at the convenience store again. I was buying the most recently published volume of Black Clover.
'No! Why did the author have to end the series so soon! There's so many unanswered questions I have!' I thought in despair.
After paying for the manga, I left the store. I stood outside on the sidewalk underneath the dim streetlights. I was planning on going back home, but something was bothering me.
'What is this strange feeling?' I thought.
I dismissed it and began to cross the street.
"That's what I get for holing up in my room all day reading Black Clover, watching Star Wars, and playing Elden Ring. Guess my eyes are tired." I said while rubbing my eyes.
Despite being Japanese, I was a huge Star Wars fan. When I got bored with gaming or reading Black Clover, I would watch one of the shows or movies. To me, Star Wars was on it's own level in terms of writing, music, and storytelling, which was why I liked it so much.
As I started to open my eyes, I saw a bright light. Then, I saw some figures. Eventually, I found myself in a medieval town. There were humans, demi-humans, and carriages pulled by big lizards everywhere. There were also people at stands selling different things. Bells were ringing, birds were flying, and people were going about their daily lives.
"What's going on? I'd say I was dreaming, but this is obviously really happening. It's totally not fake!" I said to myself.
I then realized what this all meant.
"So, does this mean I've been summoned across the universe to another world!?" I yelled out.
...
'Good thing I put on my trusty, reliable outfit today!' I thought smugly.
Brown boots, light brown cargo pants, brown belt, tan button-up shirt, and a light brown jacket. A strange outfit to wear, but I liked it. After all, it was clothing that I got on sale from various department stores.
"Well, from the looks of things, I'd say this is some kind of fantasy world with medieval style culture. A realm where demi-humans are commonplace, and there's always war and adventure going on. In this magical world, I must have–" I said until I heard yelling.
"Ayah!" yelled a woman.
She was laying on the ground and was about to get run over by a carriage.
"Hey! Watch out!" yelled a man.
"This is it! It's totally happening! This must be when I'll learn to produce magic!" I said while extending my hands.
"Hah!" I yelled out.
Nothing happened, but then a knight in shining armor came and got the woman out of the way in time. He then gave a thumbs up to the people watching. The people cheered for the knight while I stood there, looking like an idiot.
"Guess it's a little too early for me to use magic in this world." I said to myself.
'Wait. Could this world be the setting of Black Clover?' I asked myself.
Having read the entire series, I knew this was definitely not the Clover Kingdom. Nor any of the other main kingdoms in the story.
'The author hasn't done very much world building. This could be some place not mentioned in the story. I'll have to look around to find out.' I thought.
I walked to another part of town when a fruit stand caught my attention. There were a bunch of signs all over it.
'I can't read any of this. Wait. Does that make me illiterate in this world!?' I thought in a panic.
"Hey, boy. Those are some weird looking clothes. You're not from around here, are you?" said the green haired man running the stand.
"What are these?" I asked while pointing at the fruit.
"Appas. Freshest you'll find." said the man.
'Let's see if my money's any good.' I thought while pulling out some money.
"Huh? Where's that money from? You can't use that stuff out here in Lugunica. If that's all you got, then you're flat broke. Don't waste my time freeloader! Get out of here!" said the green haired man.
"That answers that. Guess I'll have to stick to good, old fashioned information gathering." I said to myself.
...
After some investigating, I determined I was not in any of the four main kingdoms in Black Clover. If I was, everybody would be carrying Grimoires. But, not a single person here was.
'That's not a good sign. Either I'm in an unknown location, or this isn't the setting of Black Clover at all. Which makes things even more troublesome. I could maybe be in some RPG or something else like Star Wars.' I thought.
Preoccupied in my thoughts, I suddenly found myself in a dark alleyway.
"Is this how it's supposed to be? Because none of it makes sense!" I yelled out in frustration.
"This is a different world, right? If so, which one is it?" I asked myself.
I kicked a rock down the alleyway.
"Darn it!" I said frustrated.
I pulled out my cell phone and looked at the contacts.
"Looks like my cell phone still works. But there's no point in even having it now!" I said in frustration.
"If this is an RPG, the gear they started me off with is a joke. If you're going to summon kids like me to your world, start them off with a laser sword or a magic cloak or something cool!" I said in more frustration.
I heard footsteps approaching, but I was too busy ranting to notice them.
"Besides, if I were transported all this way, where's the cute girl that supposedly brought me here? Why would she do that and bail on me?" I questioned myself.
Having read a couple isekai series, I was familiar with the overused trope of summoned dude meets cute girl, and they go off on an adventure to save the world. I saw something in the shadows, and thought it was the cute girl.
"Yes! You're finally here! It's nice to meet you cute… girl." I said, until I saw that it was not the cute girl. Instead it was some ugly thugs.
"What are you going on and on about?" said the short thug.
"If you don't want to get hurt, cough up whatever you got!" said the leader while grabbing me by my shirt.
"Ah crap, it's already time to fight some background characters." I said.
"Who are you calling background characters, pal!?" the leader asked me.
I then saw a girl running toward us. She had blond hair, and wore a questionable outfit.
"Move it! Move it! Move it you guys! Hurry! Out of my way!" said a blond girl.
"Yes! I knew you'd find me eventually, cute girl who summoned me!" I said enthusiastically.
"Hm? Summoned? I don't know what you're talking about, but I'm really busy. Sorry! Live strong, okay?" said the blond girl in a hurry.
She then jumped up the walls of the alleyway and left me alone with the thugs.
"So, did seeing that make you feel any less hostile by any chance?" I asked nervously.
"It actually rained on our parade, and made things worse." said the big thug.
"Of course it did." I replied.
'Calm down, Subaru Natsuki. Since ancient times, it's the rule that anyone summoned into a different world displays supernatural powers. If I just believe in myself hard enough, those powers will kick in, and pave my way to victory!' I thought to myself.
I pushed the leader away from me. I then punched the big thug to the ground and kicked the short thug away. It looked like they got hurt from my hits.
"That's the first time I've ever hit somebody. Guess I never expected it to hurt me, too. But it doesn't matter. I prepared myself in my home world to be strong. My blood is pumping! I can do anything!" I said excitedly.
While I was busy monologuing, the leader of the thugs pulled out his knifes. Even though I was unarmed, I stood my ground. With my fists raised, I slowly walked towards him.
"That's enough!" said a woman.
I turned, and saw a woman with silver hair, purple eyes, and pale skin. If I had to guess, I'd say she was a half-elf. She was dressed in a strange outfit. A white jacket with long, flowing sleeves. White leather boots that went above her knees. To top it all off, a white skirt that, in my opinion, was way too short!
'I've watched plenty of anime, so her outfit doesn't really bother me. Still, it's weird seeing an actual girl wear something like that.' I thought.
"And just who in the hell are you?" said the leader of the thugs.
"Stop now, and I'll forgive you. If you would be so kind as to give back what you stole." said the woman.
Taking a closer look at her, I was captivated. I had never seen any woman as beautiful as her before.
"You can't be serious." said the big thug.
"Please. It's very important to me. I'll turn the other cheek concerning the other belongings, but I can't let you have that. So, hand it over." she said.
"You mean you didn't come here to save this kid?" said the big thug.
"What strange clothes he has. If you're asking me if I have any connection to him, I'd have to say no." she said.
The other two thugs stood up from where I had knocked them down.
"Well then you've got no business with us, little girl! If someone stole from you, it was that brat that just ran by." said the thug leader.
"Yeah, what he said. That way. She ran that way." said the short thug.
"Hm. Those three don't appear to be lying. So, I need to go after her." she said.
She ran past us, and the three thugs sighed in relief.
"But, regardless of that! I can't overlook what's going on here!" she said.
She turned to face us. White light appeared from her hand, and icicles struck the three thugs.
'She can use magic. That's so cool!' I thought.
"Mess with us, will you? I don't care if you can use magic, I'm going to kill you! You think you can win when it's two against one, do you?!" said the thug leader.
"Indeed. Two against one may be unfair." she said.
"Alright then. Two against two should even things out." somebody said.
A cat then appeared out of nowhere and landed on the palm of her hand.
"You use the Spirit Arts?" asked the big thug.
"Correct. Retreat now and I won't chase you. Decide quickly, I'm in a hurry!" she said.
"Next time I see you, I won't go easy on you!" said the thug leader.
"Do anything to her, and I'll haunt you and your kin forever. Not that you'll have any kin if I take care of you now." said the cat.
The thugs then ran out of the alleyway.
"You really saved me! Thank you!" I said to the woman.
"Don't move!" she said suddenly.
I stared at the woman, and she stared back. She then approached me. An awkward silence fell between us. I then looked away from her. For a brief second, she gave me the strangest look. But, she quickly regained her stern expression.
"Ah-ha! You avert your eyes due to your guilty conscience. Looks like my judgment is right as always!" she said.
"You sure? I think it was an instinctive male reaction to avoid tension or rudeness. I didn't sense any malice at all." said the cat.
"That's enough out of you, Puck. Now listen, I want you to tell me who stole my insignia." she said.
"I'm really sorry, but I don't have no idea what you're talking about, to be honest with you." I said.
We stared at each other in awkward silence. Until she spoke up.
"Wait. Oh no, it couldn't be! Did I really make a wrong turn, or maybe come around the long way?" she asked herself.
"If I were you, I'd hurry after her before she gets too far. I could help if you want." I said to them.
She declined my help, but she did advise me to not wander into deserted alleys alone. She told me she wasn't concerned about my well-being, but I could tell she was lying. She then left in hurry.
"Sorry. She's so insincere sometimes, but don't think badly of her." said Puck.
"Not sincere? I don't think that's it. She was in such a hurry to find what was stolen from her, but she stopped to help me. She even came up with that lame excuse for her favor so she wouldn't feel I owed her. Even though I'm a total stranger. Anyone who lives like that-" I said while grabbing my stuff.
"Is someone I can totally get behind!" I said running after her.
Even though I was somewhat of a reckless teenager, I considered myself to be a chaotic good character. I cared about other people, and helped them when I could. What this girl did really resonated with me! That was why I chased after her.
...
After catching up to the woman, I told her I wanted to help her. She objected at first, but she eventually agreed to let me help her. We looked all over the city and asked if anybody had seen the blond-haired thief. We eventually stopped to take a break on the staircase of a tall building overlooking the kingdom. We decided to introduce ourselves since we didn't know each other's names.
"My name is Subaru Natsuki. Not only am I clueless, I'm broke beyond compare! Also, I can't use magic. Nice to meet you!" I said to Puck and the woman.
"When you say it like that, you really do sound hopeless. Anyway, I'm Puck! Nice to meet you!" said Puck.
"And what about you? What's your name?" I asked the silver haired woman.
"I'm… Satella. I have no family name. You can just call me Satella." she said.
"I see. Satella. That's a nice name." I said.
She looked at me with a surprised face.
"You have terrible taste." Puck said to her.
For some reason, Puck took a good look at me and mentioned how I was in good shape. I told them that I worked out almost every day back at home. After all, I needed to protect myself from any harm that might come my way.
...
After some more asking around, we ended up in the slums. The thief's name was Felt, and she lived in this area. Before heading any further, we took a break on a bridge over a river. I learned that Satella was a half-elf, and that she was older than she looked. Much older.
"That explains the silver hair." I said jokingly.
She sighed.
"My hair has nothing to do with my age, Subaru." she told me.
"I know. It was just a joke." I replied.
For some reason, she was surprised that I didn't mind her being a half-elf. We continued going around the slums to find Felt. Unfortunately, the sun started setting by this time, which meant that Puck had to go back inside his crystal. This meant that me and Satella were alone.
"I haven't been alone with a girl since I was in grade school." I said to her.
"I can use magic, you know." said Satella.
'I wonder what kind of magic I'll eventually end up using?' I thought to myself.
She decided to ask the spirits if they had seen where Felt was. They told her that they saw Felt heading in the same direction we were walking in. We kept walking, and saw a man walking towards us. I asked him if he knew where Felt was. He told us she was probably at old man Rom's loot house. We went there, and stood in front of the loot house.
"I'll go in first. You stay outside and keep watch. I won't be back too late, but you can have dinner without me." I said jokingly to Satella.
"Don't say dumb things like that. Be careful!" she said.
"I will! Don't come in until I say it's alright, Satella." I told her.
She didn't respond. I turned to look at her.
"What?" I asked her.
"N-Nothing. Never mind. If you can get my insignia back, I'll apologize." she said.
I headed inside the loot house with a lantern. There were all kinds of weapons and armor hanging on the walls. On the far back wall, something caught my attention. ne of the shelves had an old book. The cover was facing out, and I saw what appeared to be a five-leaf clover covered up by dust and dirt.
'No way! The five-leaf grimoire from Black Clover! It's actually here!?' I thought in disbelief.
As I got closer to the book, I stepped in a puddle. I looked down, and saw it was red. I shone my lantern around, and saw a severed arm laying on the floor. I started freaking out. Next to the arm was the dead body of an old man. I wanted to run away, but I heard a chilling voice behind me.
"Oh dear. You found that? Well, I have no choice then." said a woman.
I knew I was about to be attacked, but I was too slow to react. Kicked to the ground, I tumbled away and lost my lantern in the process.
"Ow, that burns…" I said.
I looked down at my stomach, and saw it was covered in blood.
'Oh, crap! Is all of this my blood? This is bad. Very bad!' I thought.
I heard the door open. It was Satella that came in.
"Subaru? What's wrong? Subaru?" asked Satella.
"No. Run! Hurry!" I said weakly.
I saw Satella fall next to me. The moonlight shone on her left hand.
"Wait there. I'm… going to… save you." I said while reaching for her hand.
Everything went black.
...
"What's the matter, boy? You look like you've seen a ghost." said the green haired man.
Just like that, I was back at the fruit stand.
'Wait. Didn't I just die? How am I back here?' I pondered to myself.
'Oh no! The loot house! Satella! I have to get there!' I quickly thought.
I ran away from the fruit stand, and towards the slums. On the way there, I ran through the familiar alleyway. I met the thugs again and beat them up no problem. I continued until I got to the loot house in record time. I banged on the door until it opened up.
"Shut yer trap! You tryin' to bust down my door when you don't even know the signal or password?!" said the old man.
I looked at the old man. It was the same guy that I saw dead. He eventually invited me inside for some drinks. He told me he was old man Rom. We joked around at first, but then I saw that grimoire again. I decided to ask Rom about it.
"Hey, what do you know about that dirty book on the shelf?" I asked.
"Hm. Oh, that ol' thing over there? Supposedly, the first Master Swordsman used that book over there as a spell book. Think it's called a 'grimoire'? Anyway, it's supposed to be with the Astrea family, but after the first Master Swordsman died, they couldn't use it no more. So, they got rid of it. One day, somebody came here to sell it. Thought it'd make a nice decoration, so I bought it and put it on that there shelf." explained old man Rom.
'That's way different then it's origin story in Black Clover. Anyway, I came here for more important things!' I thought to myself.
I asked old man Rom if he knew about an insignia that belonged to a silver haired girl. He didn't know anything about it, but he knew someone who might be bringing something valuable later. I asked if it was someone named Felt. He was surprised I knew but told me I might not be able to afford it. I then decided to try and trade for it. I showed him the snacks I had with me, but he just ate them all. He then told me to go wait outside until Felt arrived.
After waiting for what seemed like an eternity, I saw Felt. I asked if I could negotiate with her for the insignia. She agreed, and we went back into the loot house. After some joking around, we got to negotiating. I wanted to trade my cell phone for the insignia. I showed them what it could do, and Rom said it was worth at least twenty holy coins. Unfortunately, we couldn't trade until the client got here. Eventually, they showed up. I was surprised to see that this client of Felt was a woman. She was wearing a weird black dress and a black cape. Also, she had purple eyes and black hair. Unsurprisingly, her dress was very revealing.
'How does she not get cold wearing that? I know I would!' I thought to myself.
The woman in the cape only had twenty holy coins on her. My metia was worth at least twenty according to Rom. That meant, victory was mine! I did a little celebratory dance until the woman asked a weird question.
"What do you intend to do with that insignia?" she asked.
"Oh, I'm going to find its owner and return it to her." I honestly said.
She said coldly,"I see. So, you're with them."
Felt then tackled me to the ground. If she had been any slower, I would've been mincemeat because the woman in the cape had pulled out a knife and swung it at me. Rom charged at the woman with a club in hand and started swinging at her. This soon turned into a duel between them.
"This is bad!" I said.
"Don't worry. There's no way old man Rom will lose." Felt said confidently.
Old man Rom then went for a powerful swing at her, but she sliced off his arm with ease. His arm and the club fell to the floor. He then charged at her, but she was too quick. She cut into his throat with a broken glass cup. Old man Rom spat out some blood before he fell to the floor with a thud.
Seeing this, Felt became angry. She charged at the woman with her own knife. She was too fast for me to keep track of. Unfortunately, she was too slow. The woman sliced her with ease. She fell to the floor as well.
That left me and the deadly woman. I took a deep breath and ran towards her. I readied my right arm for a punch, but it was no use. She dodged my punch and kicked me away with ease. She then started walking towards me. I readied myself in a fighting stance. She jumped forward and swung her knife. I barely dodged it, but I was able to kick her away. She flew into the wall, and a small crater formed from the impact.
'Dang! I'm way stronger than I remember!' I thought in amazement.
"Ah, I certainly felt that one." she said.
As she said that, I felt something burning with pain. I looked down at my stomach. It was all red. I fell to the floor.
"Are you surprised? I opened up your belly when we passed by one another. This is the one thing I excel at." she said while getting herself off the wall.
'It hurts. It hurts. It hurts. It hurts.' I thought over and over.
I crumpled to the ground. As my vision faded, the last thing I saw was the grimoire sitting on the shelf.
...
I found myself at the fruit stand again.
"I have no idea what's going on anymore." I said before passing out.
I felt water being splashed on my face. The man from the fruit stand asked if I was alright. He offered me some water and food, but I saw someone familiar. Satella. I chased after her and called out her name. She stopped in the middle of the street, and turned to look at me. I tried talking to her, but she only asked me one thing.
"Are you crazy?" she asked me.
She stared at me. From her face, I could tell she was angry.
"I don't know who you are, but don't you dare call me by the name of the Witch of Envy!" she said.
We stared at each other in silence.
'What's going on? She knows who I am! Why is she saying this?' I thought to myself.
"I'll ask you again. Why did you call me by the name of the Witch of Envy?" she asked.
"Because you told me to." I said.
"Whoever told you that has bad taste! The Witch of Envy is the symbol of taboo! Most dare not to say her name!" she said.
"If you have nothing else to say, I'm leaving. I have things to do." she said while walking away.
As she was walking away, I saw Felt running towards her. She swiped something from her and ran off to who knows where. The silver haired woman ran after Felt. I followed them.
'What was that about? Why did she say all that?' I asked myself silently.
She went into the familiar dark alleyway. I went after her, but I had to stop to catch my breath. As I was standing in the alleyway, the three stooges decided to make their appearance once again. I decided to ignore them and keep on walking. Unfortunately, the leader pulled out a knife and literally stabbed me in the back. As I fell to the ground, I saw my snacks again.
'Wait. I thought old man Rom ate all my snacks.' I thought before I died.
...
I was at the fruit stand again. I decided to try something. I asked the man if he had seen me before.
"What do you mean? I've never seen you before now." he said.
'So that's what's going on.' I thought.
I then walked away. I sat down on a set of stairs in front of a building. I looked at what I had with me. I had my phone, wallet, and snacks. I looked to see if I still had that stab wound on my back, but it wasn't there.
'This has to be time travel. Every time I die, I return to a specific point in the past.' I thought.
"I'll call it Return By Death." I said.
As soon as I said that, I had an ominous feeling. But, it vanished instantly.
'Now I know one thing for certain. This is not Black Clover, Star Wars, or Elden Ring!' I thought seriously.
I then got up and wasted no time.
'In order to keep that woman from killing everyone at the loot house, I have to buy the insignia from Felt before she gets there. I then have to return it to Satella.' I thought.
'Wait. Satella isn't her real name. I'm going to have to ask her for her real name this time.' I also thought.
As I was walking, I somehow ended up in the familiar dark alleyway again. I also saw the three stooges again. This time, instead of fighting them or ignoring them, I decided to do something smart.
"Guards! Help! I'm being robbed!" I yelled out as loud as I could.
The thugs got scared, but after a while they realized nobody was coming. They pulled out their weapons.
'Crap. Is nobody coming?' I thought to myself.
"That's enough!" said a man.
A red-haired man with blue eyes was standing at the entrance of the alleyway. He was dressed in white and carried a sword on his hip. The thugs called him Reinhard, the Master Swordsman. They then ran away when he reached for his sword.
"I'm glad we're both safe. Are you alright?" asked Reinhard.
"Allow me to thank you from the bottom of my heart for saving my life. I, Natsuki Subaru, admire your selflessness!" I said formally.
"There's no need for formalities. After it became three against two, they lost their advantage." said Reinhard.
"Well, if you don't mind, I'll be on my way." he said.
"Oh yeah. I'd appreciate it if you could deliver a message." I said to Reinhard.
"Of course, I'd be glad to." he replied.
"What should I say, and to whom?" he asked.
"If you see a girl with white robes and silver hair, tell her not to come near the loot house, no matter what. I'll find what she's looking for and bring it to her myself." I said.
He was silent for a moment before he spoke again.
"Very well. If I see her, I will tell her your message." said Reinhard.
"Thanks. I'll repay you one day!" I said while walking away.
"All right. Take care." he said.
...
I went to the slums and asked around where Felt lived. After I learned where it was, I headed there. Along the way, I bumped into a woman. As you would expect, my face ended up buried in her chest. I pushed myself off of her.
"Are you alright?" asked the woman.
"Yeah. I'm fine. I don't look it, but being tough is one quality I… have..." I said before realizing who it was.
The woman in the black dress and black cape that killed me twice already. Between then and now, I learned that her name was Elsa.
"What's wrong? You don't have to be scared. I won't do anything to you." she said.
"I'm not scared. Who told you that?" I said nervously while keeping a straight face.
"Your smell. When people are scared, I can smell their fear." she said while licking her lips.
'Why did she have to make this so weird?' I thought.
"Well, I'll be going now. I have a feeling we'll meet again soon." she said while walking away.
After she left, I breathed a sigh of relief.
'Well that was anticlimactic. I thought for sure she would've killed me right here.' I thought to myself.
...
I arrived at the place where Felt lived. It was a little shack with a blanket over it. I looked inside to see if Felt was there. She wasn't there. I was just about to leave when I heard a voice behind me. It was Felt. She thought I was a thief and told me to go away. I told her I had business with her, but she started attacking me. Her little shack got destroyed while she was attacking me.
She held her knife to my face and told me to go away. I told her I wanted to buy the insignia off of her. She put down her knife and listened to me. After telling her I wanted to trade my metia for the insignia, she said we should go to the loot house to get it appraised. She didn't trust some stranger putting a price on it.
We went to the loot house. Old man Rom appraised it, and said it was worth at least twenty holy coins. It looked like the trade was complete but Felt still wanted to wait for Elsa. I tried to convince her otherwise, but she wouldn't budge. Eventually, I heard knocking at the door. Felt went to go open the door.
"Don't open that door! She's going to kill us all!" I said to everyone.
The door opened. A woman with purple eyes stepped through.
"Kill you? I would never do something so terrible!" she said.
It was the half-elf woman whose name I still didn't know.
'Why is she here so early? Is this how soon she would've got here if I wasn't involved?' I pondered.
She walked inside the loot house, and told Felt to give up the insignia. Felt refused, and they got ready to fight. She created several floating icicles and aimed them at Felt. Felt took a fighting stance. I tried to convince Felt to give up the insignia. I also told the woman to leave, and that I would give her the insignia later. Suddenly, a shadowy figure holding a knife appeared behind the woman.
"Puck! Shield!" I yelled.
An icicle shield appeared behind the woman. The knife glanced off of it. The shadowy figure then stepped into the light. It was Elsa! Felt asked her what she was doing. Elsa said that the deal was off since the owner of the insignia was here. She also insulted Felt and called her another slum dweller. I decided to step in.
"Hey! Cut it out! Just because you plan was ruined, you start flipping tables? Are you a little kid?! You should be more mature!" I lectured Elsa.
"What are you talking about?" she asked.
"There! All done buying time. Get her, Puck!" I said.
Puck then launched a volley of icicles at Elsa. They hit her, and a big dust cloud appeared. After the dust settled, we saw that Elsa was trapped in a giant chunk of ice. We thought it was over, but the ice broke and Elsa stood there unharmed. She then dashed towards the woman with her knife. The woman created an ice shield to protect herself from Elsa's knife, and she launched some more icicles at Elsa. Elsa dodged all the icicles.
Me, Felt, and old man Rom were huddled against the wall next to the shelf with the five-leaf grimoire. We were watching to see how the battle would turn out. It was almost dusk which meant Puck barely had time before he had to go to sleep. Puck and the woman then decided to try and finish off Elsa. They managed to freeze one of Elsa's feet to the floor. They created a giant ice spike and sent it towards Elsa. Unfortunately, Elsa dodged it at the last second. However, she didn't escape unscathed. Her foot that had been frozen was now bleeding badly.
'That looks like it might slow her down!' I thought to myself.
It didn't slow down Elsa at all. She dashed around the woman, slashing her knife against her ice shields. I started to remember the first time I had come to the loot house, and how we were all killed. I was about to act, but old man Rom beat me to it. While this was going on, Elsa had broken through the woman's ice shield and had kicked her over the counter of the bar. She slashed at her, and the woman barely dodged it.
Old man Rom then charged at her with his club. He started attacking her. It looked like he had a chance of beating her. He then went for a wide swing that broke an ice spike that was in the middle of the room. However, the woman simply jumped out of the way. She then landed on top of Rom's club, and cut it in half. She also tried to slash at his neck but Felt threw her knife. This caused her knife to change course, and instead cut into the side of his head. Old man Rom went down, but he was still alive.
'How did she cut through that club? That thing is made of solid wood!' I thought.
Elsa then turned her attention to Felt. She was annoyed that Felt got in her way. She started to approach me and Felt. I had to do something, or else we would die. I did the only thing I could think of.
"Felt! Run! I'm going to buy us time!" I yelled out.
"What?! You're telling me to run away?!" she said.
"Yes! Now! Go, Felt!" I told her.
Felt then started to run away. Of course, Elsa wouldn't let her go that easily.
"You think I'll just let her go?" she asked me.
She was about to throw a knife, but the silver haired woman launched an icicle at her. She dodged it, and by the time she threw the knife, Felt was already out the door. This just left me, Elsa, and the woman.
'Damn, we're done for! There's really nothing I can do. I have nothing to attack her with! I guess I'll have to Return By Death and start over again.' I thought.
Flashbacks of the first night replayed in my head again.
'No! I don't want to feel that pain ever again. I don't want to die! As long as I'm alive, all I can do is fight with all my might! I will find a way out of this!' I thought with all the determination I could muster.
In the blink of an eye, the grimoire from the shelf was now floating in front of me with a familiar red glow.
"What's going on here?" I asked myself.
"My, my. This is starting to get interesting." said Elsa.
"What is that strange book?" asked the silver haired woman warily.
Author Note: I'm back, and I'm here to revive this fanfiction! Sorry for the absence!
For this fanfiction, I changed Subaru's personality. Instead of being self-centered, he's selfless and wants to help others. Reason why I did this is it's easier for me to write. Being selfish is the opposite of my personality, and I would have a very hard time writing a character like that. I also decided to give him full knowledge of what happens in Black Clover. That being said, don't expect him to be overpowered!
Also, because I'm a turbo-virgin, there will be little, if any, romance in this fanfiction. :(
Expect there to be a title for every chapter. They don't have any major significance, but they are basically the theme for the chapter. For example, in this chapter, Subaru got teleported to a new world.
I already wrote another five chapters ahead of this one, so I'll get those uploaded soon. After that, I have no idea how often I'll update this story. But, I will continue to work on it! :)
