Record keeping: In this time line Babylon Five has a different history. With the Minbari defeated (for real) Earth Alliance did think of the idea of creating a station for aliens and humans to meet and come together and discuss their differences. Sinclair was not selected. Sheridan was offered the job and he accepted. Clark grabbed power and within a year, Babylon Five was taken and turned into a fortress of Earth Alliance. All aliens were evicted and now it is a major military base feared by every race in the local sector.
EvilTheLast: I am trying to be consistent with the Colonial. Here, they are trying and haven't even mentioned religion yet. That's because of their original First contact. They learned their lesson and are more interested in formulating good relations with Earth. They know nothing of what is happening at home.
Thor94: Other than what the Colonials have seen so far, the UCW and Earth have no intentions of showing off to in any for. Remember that Earth is being watched by their enemies and have no wish to really tip their hand. The colonials will see soon enough.
Robo Reader: Have faith. I have not abandoned SB but I will not do anything until I get back to ATV. But first I have to get this out of my system. The Colonials know two things Humans and cylons and everything is based off of that. The Race has come as a shock (in both stories). And you are right about someone mentioning that Earth might be the elder tribe not the youngest. That was in 'Contact at Kobol. I had mention that in a review I believe that he incorporated. Also, I believe that Ash might have mentioned that somewhere om 'Reunions are a Deleted'. Daniel's authority? Keep reading please. As with Worldwar, here the Colonials will learn quite a bit that will not jive with their world view.
Watcher123: No, the ambassador and the admiral are smart enough not to try to any UCW under their protection. Doesn't mean that the admiral didn't think about it. But the sheer speed of Terran and UCW ships will be enough for him to get a clue. And earth doesn't have to worry about Clark's war machine yet. They need to worry about the Shadows…
NorJC: I have not forgotten you. I am working on it. And yes, the UCW is a touch more vicious in this part of their history. Too many things have happened and to many threats are around. They'll straighten out but right now they are frightened. Too many people are trying to strangle the UCW in the crib. Update Jack: I got your review today and since I am posting as well, I wanted to include comments about the review. Having visitors during a time of potential wars is a pain in the neck. At the same time, one has to be diplomatic whether we like it or not. How could it. Other than the first contact that went bad, the Colonials aren't trying to boss their way around (well not as much in this time line). They hadn't even mentioned religion yet. The cylons were coming anyway whether or not Earth knew about it or not. Just maybe having their butts kicked might have been the best thing ever to happen to them. There will be recriminations. Simply put, bot the Colonials and the Cylons are in for a shock. Plus, although they don't know it, The Colonies and the cylons are at war with Earth. A very deadly one just not the earth they assumed.
Chapter VIII
Book II
'Earth and Earth Alliance: Collision Course'
"…Well, you can come to Earth, saving your fleet from possible destruction along the way I might add, and talk to my government. They may make a decision in your favor." Jackson really wondered if their mutual governments would come to an agreement with this attitude of theirs.
Doctor Daniel Jackson knew it was certainly possible as people disagreed with one another all the time. The PTSD Tollians were a good example. The UCW even had hopes of making a treaty with Lord Yu, if he hadn't gone senile. The Tollanians with their 'we're better than everyone attitude' came around. On Earth, North Korea still hadn't come to an agreement and tensions were as bad as ever if not worse. But it was possible. With the Ashtorath Goa'uld, not so much.
On another screen he could see their ambassador looking aghast by the Admirals attitude, but she hadn't said anything, and Daniel wondered if there was some tension between the two of them. He hoped it wasn't the case. Division between the two of them would certainly make their mission more difficult for both sides.
"Or, you can turn around and go home and we can try this again in a hundred years or so." The faces of both Colonials reflected horror at that idea. Traveling a year to get here and then turn around and go home within hours of their finish line would be the height of failure in everyone's eyes.
"I understand your need to speak to the prisoners, but you will go through proper channels. Furthermore, diplomatic ties between our people have not been established. Relatives you might be, but we all know that reunions can be difficult at first meetings. Until any agreements can be reached, you have no say so what we do in our own territories. The UCW is interested in the safety of your fleet but we won't be threatened or bullied. As I said, you can accept these terms of yours can leave. I personally suggest that you accept these terms so that we can salvage your mission and secure the safety of your people." He paused for a moment to let his words sink in. "The choice is yours."
"Is this how you treat a diplomatic envoy to your colony world?" Kunningham spat. He was backed into a corner with too many unknowns surrounding him and the weight of command lying heavily on his shoulders. He couldn't turn around and go home with only a 'goodbye and good luck' to show for all of their work. "We came here to find a way to create a peace and unity between our tribes. And you reject our entreaties and requests out of hand."
"Can't we find a way for our two people to at least talk to one another?" asked the Ambassador. "If we must leave then we will hear it from a higher authority, not a diplomat such as yourself. If your superiors tell us to leave then, we will leave."
"Madam Ambassador," said Doctor Daniel Jackson of the UCW Stargate Command, Director of the Diplomatic Corps, "When I am brought in, I have the final say and the authority to back it up."
"You have that much authority?" asked the Admiral, not quite believing that this non-assuming, pencil-pushing individual was given that much power.
"Yes, I do. We are not a colony world. You are a diplomat and should act like such coming to a foreign place," countered Daniel. "In my experience, diplomacy is difficult. Both our nations have preconceived motions about each other. We were worried about your safety and I hope you can see your way to making the right decision." Representative Jackson didn't say it, but the words, "otherwise, go home," was practically written across his face.
Kunningham bristled at the subtle insult. The Colonial ambassador could see her colleague trying his best to calm down. By all accounts at least to him under the laws set forth by the Quorum, he was the one to make final decisions. After a few moments of an intense mental struggle, he spoke. "I need to know who this enemy is you keep speaking about. I need to know their threat potential."
Daniel nodded his head in understanding. The admiral needed to save face and also an excuse to keep the lines of communication open. Jackson had no problem with that. "We don't know that much about them other than the fact that they are completely alien, have large teeth and claws, are every aggressive and like to feed on humans and other aliens by sucking their fluids and eating their organs while tearing their victims apart usually from the inside out. Oh yes, they have the ability to turn invisible and can phase through walls. Several worlds were attacked, the people wiped out." He paused as he thought of the massacre of the people on those planets. So far, the perpetrators hadn't been identified or their base of operations found. Their attacks were growing bolder and everyone was on edge. "You want to come to Earth, then say so and we will allow you to come. But our planet, our rules. If not, we wish you the best of luck on your journey home. What is your decision, Admiral Kunningham of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol, not Thirteen by the way? I did mention that before, didn't I?" Daniel tried not to smirk in the man's throbbing vein, he really tried. By the look on Admiral Kunningham' s face, maybe he hadn't. Jacks' irreverent attitude had rubbed off him.
"We would humbly accept your offer. When we arrive, I will request that I be allowed to interviews our traditional enemies, if it is permitted," Admiral Kunningham, conceded through gritted teeth. "I also offer the support and assistance in in the protection of your threatened worlds and of course, Earth."
Besides him the ambassador nodded with visible sighs of relief. She was just thankful that war hadn't broken out against this UCW. "I understand that there are tensions on Earth. But I request in advance to speak to representatives of your UCW. I need clarification of what I believe is a basic misunderstanding based on what I believe are cultural differences. I want to understand why you believe that you are not one of the Tribes of Kobol. I assume you have some theories as to why you are not?" she struggled to withhold her smile. That would keep the Earthers busy and eventually they would see the truth because of the seeds she'd just planted.
Daniel looked at her for a long moment as his eyes accepted her challenge. "Then, welcome to the UCW, Admiral Kunningham and the delegation of the Tribes of Kobol."
The admiral grunted, while the ambassador thanked the gods that they hadn't created another diplomatic disaster with their cousins.
EarthGov: Earth Alliance
Seat of Power location: Geneva, Switzerland.
Presidential suite
Time: 9:00PM
Inside the private office of the President of Earth Alliance, President William Morgan Clark sat behind his desk, looking at a stack of paperwork that he hadn't yet gotten to. As usual, his face was in a perpetual frown. The leadership across the world were looking at him to answer all of their questions and to solve all of the problems. He refused to do their thinking for them. Let them do their jobs. That's what they were being paid for. They were all a bunch of trifling bureaucrats that couldn't see past their noses. Not one of them had true vision and were woefully incompetent in performing the simplest of tasks. He'd given them the power to keep the people under control and all they'd done was prove how stupid they were. They didn't understand how to properly manage the flocks. If he didn't have need of them, he would have gotten rid of them all a long time ago. But, not yet.
Maybe it was their antics, maybe it was because it was late but he began reflecting on how he became President. There were few that he could talk to. He couldn't trust anyone; therefore, he could only reflect to himself. Before he became president more than a decade ago, he dreamed of glory and having absolute power, power over the life and deaths of every citizen of the Earth. But to have power, he required power and he was limited in what he could do. Foolish rules for a weak people. Say things about him, he was never considered weak.
Ironically, his alien associates provided him with more power than he ever dreamed of and he exulted in it. Ex-president Elizabeth Levy had left office in disgrace, courtesy of a few scandals, ones he engineered as senator which caused her entire administration to be removed in disgrace. Even when he was just a senator, he never liked her and her weak-willed policies. When she decided to remove him from office but not kill her enemies, in his opinion, was one of the greatest miscalculations of her political career. Oh, he knew why she did it, the scandal of her senators plotting behind her back during a time of war would have collapsed the entire government and she couldn't have that, could she?
In those days, Levy was one of the targets on his list, but it was one man who had ushered his original fall from grace. All of his years of planning was effectively destroyed by the actions of one man. But before that, there was the Minbari-Earth war. The filthy seemingly unstoppable aliens were the nightmare of every human on Earth. Their intentions of killing all of humanity had terrified him and everyone.
When hope was almost lost, the 'outsider 'ship called Achilles arrived and proved itself a very strong deterrent against those aliens. When he found out about the crew and their fantastic ship, he was just as ecstatic as everyone else. Actually, it was somewhat shocking that a ship from another reality and from the 21st Century no less, was more advanced, and more powerful and had potential than the best Earthforce ship ever made by Earth Alliance. Not only did they effectively defy the Minbari war machine, but they also presented an opportunity to not only survive the war but to actually flourish and achieve victory. Clark also saw them as a pathway to personal power and if done correctly, would have propelled him to the Presidency–after the war was over and Earth had won. But the commander of the Achilles, although human, wouldn't give Earth Alliance their valuable technology. Instead, they gave out trinkets, bubbles enough to keep Earth in the fight but not enough for a decisive victory.
Diplomacy didn't work and he didn't expect it to but for appearances sake EarthDome and Earthforce tried. Never a man to let being told 'no' go, he and a few of his fellow, like-minded associates attempted to find a way to take the technology for themselves. What use was having power if everybody was dead?
His initial orders were to try to acquire that technology quietly, using illegal telepathic intrusion with the help from Psi-Corps, of course. That turned out to be a disaster. The Achilles; crew was telepathic resistant. No, it was more than that, they were like biological telepathic resistors. Any telepath trying to scan them became violently ill, mentally crippled, or even permanently brain damaged. Clark and his supporters as well as elements of Earthforce were constantly frustrated, and increasingly angered with each setback. The lost Achilles was found by their fellow other Earthers.
The ever-increasing pressure that was being exerted on the lost crew to give up their precious technology was about to be lost. Several rescue ships appeared during a critical battle and literally frightened the Minbari away from a from one of the few remaining strategic bases Earth still had, holding against Minbari forces.
For Clark, the temptation was too much to ignore. The 'other' were returning home, and with them gone the power for himself and the ability to protect Earth and conquer the Minbari and anyone else that threatened Earth. If they returned, he wouldn't be able to influence the arrogant primitives enough to make a difference for himself. Levy and the others would gain the advantage. That he couldn't allow and he also had a dept to pay. The Achilles crew had defied and insulted him and that was something he would not allow to pass. They were 21st century primitives in possession of technology they didn't deserve and had no idea how to utilize properly.
By then, Clark admittedly made the first of several major miscalculations, one of them being too inpatient. He was so obsessed with gaining the technology that he and others tried to hijack those ships and take what was rightfully belonging the 'real' Earth. Those ships were crewed by humans! They had no right to reject Earth Alliance's demands to give up their technology for the benefit of humanity. What was even more infuriating was the fact they refused to give up their shields and beam weapons and who knows what else, because they made a promise to aliens.
Aliens!
What happened still made him cringe. It all went horribly wrong and he lost many of the resources that had taken decades to cultivate. The fault was all O'Neill's. It was he that gave the orders to tap into his private computer servers and exposed his secrets to Levy!
Clark was not only humiliated but he was also ruined. It took everything that he had, all of his money, all of this influence, to keep from going to prison or worse. The only thing that saved him was Levy's fear of scandal. His friends treated him like a pariah and believed him useless and therefore finished. But he wasn't, not by a long shot. He still had some political influence and a lot of the population still loved him. They were not fully aware of any of his indiscretions because Levy's administration had to keep things quiet for their own survival, but that didn't stop them from making Clark their fall guy.
Angry but undaunted, he clawed his way back up politically, finally having enough popularity to run for President of the Earth Alliance after he got rid of Levy's administration. When he finally ran for president, he ran on a platform of change and unsurprisingly, those sheep actually believed him. Still it wasn't enough for him to win the Office of the President. Because of the number of votes received across the world he was elected Vice-President. Santiago had received more votes. He was not impressed by the man (point in fact he hated the man, the same man who was instrumental along with Levy in nearly crippling his career), and considered him weak. Clark was not satisfied with the- vice presidency. That title was little more than a joke, having the illusion of power but having none of the power itself.
That's when Mister Morden's his associates came to him.
After two years of chaffing at being vice-president almost drove him insane. President Santiago kept him on a tight lease and he hated it. Then, seemingly from out of nowhere, his associates arrived and suggested that things could change if Clark was willing to do certain things for them in return, a favor for a favor so to speak. These unknowns didn't ask for much. In return for helping him ascend to the Presidency, they wanted a favor or two in the future. Clark's instinct for self-preservation went into overdrive, being fully aware of what so-called 'simple' favors could lead to. Owing favors to alien entities was dangerous, however he also believed that he was smarter than any alien creature no matter how powerful they were. These associates were pulling strings but he would soon be pulling theirs once he got the power he craved.
Greed overcame caution. He eagerly is accepted.
With Santiago's assassination. he became the president of Earth alliance and eventually the absolute ruler of earth.
The things that he had done in order to secure his power was somewhat regrettable, but absolutely necessary if mankind was to survive the alien menace. Oh, how he loved that term, those words had solidified the people's support for him. They needed a focal point to rally behind and the aliens surrounding Earth fit the bill perfectly. The Minbari, Narn, Dilgar, the Vree, the Centauri…the list went on and on. He made the people afraid of aliens and he used that fear to gain power.
But in creating this fear, he made enemies. There were too many aliens out there, too many human traitors willing to compromise the safety of Earth for him to allow to continue to exist.
When he was ready to make his move, the biggest political challenge were the officers and crew of Babylon Five. That blasted station was a thorn in the side for almost three years until finally he got the resources sufficient to take that Earth space station. Sheridan and his people managed to get away but they've been running ever since. A small group of Earth ships continued to elude his forces but the noose was getting tighter and places of sanctuary were disappearing. Alien governments were not allowing them to enter their territories for fear of retaliation by Earthforce, the same force that defeated the Minbari and the Dilgar. He did suspect that the Narn had helped supply the ships once or twice but it couldn't be proven. The rebel Earthforce ships had no way to resupply their few ships and if they weren't caught, then they'd wind up dead, drifting in the void. It was only matter of time before the inevitable happened.
He considered them a minor concern these days because he had other things to worry about, namely the aliens surrounding Earth. They were all jealous of humanity, especially the Centauri. As he was continually told, they were busy finishing conquering the last elements of the Narn and looking towards the Non-Aligned League of Worlds as their next victims.
All except the Vree.
There was no way he would allow the Centauri to acquire Vree hyperdrive tech before he could.
The Centauri were cowed for the time being, and the league was disorganized and fearful of his power and terrified of what the Centauri would likely do to them. Those mad aliens were still to wary of Earth's power and Catagia, as insane as he was, wasn't ready to tangle with Earth for now.
The Alliance was stronger than it had ever been and no one dared to attack or even antagonize them. Earth was stronger than The Minbari at the height of their power. It was that power and that fear that allowed him to turn his eye on this other foreign world called Earth.
He spat. Just thinking about it. How dare they! They weren't even allowed to use that name. He hadn't forgotten what they did to him, never would. The desire for retaliation burned against his need for their technology.
Because of his foresight and initiatives, his Earth was a premier world in possession of some of the most advanced technology and science in his sector of the galaxy. But he wouldn't feel complete, feel satisfied until he had theirs. It wasn't enough that O'Neill and his faux Earth had to die. They had to die knowing that their secrets, their sciences and their technology was his!
Then, he would feel safe.
Getting his ships safely through the dimensional barrier was only one of the many challenges that he had to overcome. It took more than a decade of preparation to build the ships and incorporate the Minbari offensive and defensive systems into the Earthforce and to prepare. The stolen Abbai shield technology was magnificent. Although not as strong as the Achilles, they were a close match. IPX and the science division had improved upon the technology and had vastly increased the strength, approximating an estimated seventy-five percent of what was believed the Faux Earthship to be. It wasn't good enough but he had accumulated the numbers to overcome their superior shielding. However, Clark didn't consider himself a fool. He needed intelligence to see how much the faux Earth had advanced in terms of ships and numbers. Speculation was next to useless. O'Neill's world's advanced technology was simply stunning, but not even they could withstand the armada he was sending at them. The last piece I the puzzle was his need to find out where was located and that's where alien friends came in.
It was a fortuitous event that they stumbled over the Colonials of Kobol. They had a few technologies that were also very valuable and Clark wanted that as well. The Colonials weren't as advanced as the faux Earth had but he'd take what he wanted and discard the rest. Their gravity systems were different than what they were given by the Achilles and the gravity system that was taken from the Minbari. Therefore, it was useful as another system that Earth could use. According to the reports, their ships were huge and robust and easily updated to EF standard with little difficulty. Their jump drive was fascinating and those robot creations of theirs were of interest to him. And if the other technologies in the report were true…
He placed the tablet on his desk after reading the report perhaps for the seventh time in the past hour. Clark would never show it but He was giddy with excitement. Imagine the possibilities of being able to live forever! Oh, what he could accomplish living ten, maybe twenty lifetimes. That in and of itself was worth the entire expenditure and the billions of credits the government had spent. The news had made his day, literally. Everything else that happened recently failed in comparison.
This new discovery was so important that he ordered the Third Fleet to escort the package to Area Twenty-Four. The super-secret research space station run by
The WTH section of the Interplanetary Expeditions, or IPX, and the specialist Division of Bureau Thirteen would make sure every secret would be discovered, analyzed, and back-engineered, and made available for his use. They were used to decoding alien technology and making it available for use by Earth Alliance. Once they did that, he might even give them a raise once they secured the technology for his own personal use. If the report about this resurrection technology was even half as accurate as he was led to believe, then President-For-Life would take on a whole new meaning. If it wasn't viable then creating perfect clones for body parts would be more than useful as well.
But he wanted immortality!
