Chapter 2: Starting A New Life Is Chaotic and Emotional
[Location: The Yaoyorozu's Personal Residence]
[Time: 5:51am]
It was the early hours of the morning. The sun had just risen above the horizon, beginning a new day for many workers across the country. Somewhere in Japan, the Yaoyorozu's; one of the most influential families in Japan, responsible for many advancements in many fields like assisting UA with its budget, helping build up small buisnesses by intergrating them into the Yaoyorozu's, giving said businesses many benefits and most importantly, creating highly beneficial medical equipment and medicine that had helped both Japan and many countries across the world save millions of lives, and without them, many hospitals; both local and foreign, may not be able to support or help the large influx of patients of today's era.
But instead of focusing on the Yaoyorozu as a brand and buisness, let us go to one of the members of the Yaoyorozu family, specifically the young daughter of Tando and Kotto Yaoyorozu, Momo Yaoyorozu.
She was only 2 years old, yet she already has a whole room to herself, having a queen size bed with some of the most soft and fluffiest pillows money could buy, and a closet that could be seen as a whole room to some. In short, her family was rich and her parents spoiled her.
Everyday at 6:00am on the dot, a maid would come in her room to wake the young lady up, help her get ready and bring her downstairs to have breakfast with her parents, but the clock has yet to strike 6 so there was no maid to wake little Momo up yet. But that didn't stop the toddler from waking up prematurely, rubbing out her eyes and letting out a small, adorably high-pitched yawn.
("mmm, what a strange dream. I must have been so tired last night.") Little Momo thought, remembering the strange dream she just had.
To her, the dream was peculiar. Normally her dreams were nothing more than spending time with friends and having her quirk becoming more viable, but what she actually had was so different. It wasn't scary, but actually quite beautiful. Izuku was there, along with what she believed was a guardian angel of some kind. They were in a place that she could only call heaven, with the beautiful hills, soft yellow clouds and gentle pink skies.
("Wait, why did I call Midoriya by his first name? When do I call him by his first name?") Momo realised she called Izuku by his first name, which she had never done.
Suddenly her brain began to hurt, a flash of memories stabbing at her brain, all rushing in at once, revealing events that weren't supposed to happen, yet they did. Momo couldn't believe them. When the last drops made their way into her brain, Momo was horrified and remembered everything that had happened.
Her dream, it was real. It was all real, and not just her dream, but her death as well. It all happened, and she couldn't believe she didn't want to, but the events were all there. She died. She had died and then brought back to life to have a second chance.
But she had died. She, died! And she died while she was being a hero. Did she die because she wasn't strong enough? Was her plans not good enough? Was she not fit to be a hero? Why did she become a hero if she weren't fit to become one? Would Izuku care for her for not being good enough. Would he even care for her as a friend for being so weak and incompetent.
"Why am I calling him Izuku?! I'm not even close to him to be allowed to call him Izuku!" Momo was having a panic attack, all of the trauma of dying, plus all the small things from her previous life like the expectations of being a great hero, having perfect grades and being the successor of her parent's buisness, all of it hit her like a freight train.
"I'm such a failure! How can I show my face to Izuku?! How can he trust me when I have failed?!" Momo continued to spiral, but to her rescue, a voice suddenly popping in her head helped snap her out of her panic attack, but it didn't stop her from still panicking.
"You are not a failure, Momo. Izuku isn't a person who would hate someone for making a single mistake. Everyone make mistakes, and Izuku had made plenty of them." The voice, sounding like it came from her head, told her.
"W...who's there? Who are you?" Momo was scared, bringing her bed covers up to her face, only allowing her eyes to peak over.
"Who I am is not important. At least for now. For right now, I am here to give you some important information the angel you encounter forgot to give you." The mysterious voice said, catching Momo off guard.
"You know the angel? And what important information? How important can it be if the angel forgot?" Momo asked skeptically.
She didn't know who this person was and them saying they know the angel, either personally or as a coworker, she stayed on guard incase the voice appears in front of her.
"The information you weren't told is very important. Without it, you won't be able to ignite your new powers." The voice said, the information confusing Momo.
"Wait, what! I don't understand? Shouldn't I already have access to my destructive powers? How could the angel forget something so important?" Momo asked, looking down at her hands, hoping to feel her new power flowing through her, but she felt nothing, not even her ild quirk.
"Well, I kind of lied before. The angel didn't forget, more like they didn't know such a requirement was needed. But do not worry for I have the power to give you what you need to unlock your new powers." The voice said, their voice sounding more excited at the end of their sentence.
Momo didn't like this person, they were too mysterious for her liking, and how can the angel not know about something they gave her and Izuku.
The voice told Momo that all she needs to do to unlock her powers is to speak a cantrip they will place in her mind after they finished talking, but they said it will be far down into her mind that she needs to actively search for it. Momo asked why they couldn't just tell her the information, but the voice didn't respond, meaning they are ignoring her, or they have left. Even if what the voice said was true, she didn't trust them until they showed themselves and prove they were to be trusted.
("Who even was that? How could they know something the angel didn't? Are they stronger than the angel, or did the angel work for them?") Momo had so many questions that couldn't be answered, but she decided to focus on something else because it started to give her a headache.
Looking to her side she saw the clock on her bedside table read 5:56am, meaning a maid will soon come in and wake her up. So with some time to spare, she figure she could use this extra time to herself to try and unlock her new powers.
Jumping off the bed, being careful to not fall on her face, she looked around the room for something. If she remembered correctly, she new power gave her the ability to destroy anything, but how that works she isn't clear, but what she is clear about is that she knew what she wanted to use as her first test subject.
After only two minutes of looking, she found what she was looking for in her old toy chest. Inside were an assortment of toys from dolls, blocks and even some very old stuffed animals. What Momo was interested in was the russian doll she was given in her last life.
This doll was important to her. In her last life, her mother helped her train her quirk by using the doll as a blueprint of sorts to help her create a copy of it. Ever since she created her first doll, she cherished the original doll for many years, keeping it nice a clean, making sure it was somewhere safe and she even brought it with her to the dorm rooms when she moved. It was that special to her. Now, in her new life, she will be again using it to test ger new powers, but a negative thought came to her mind.
"I want to test my powers using it, but if I did, I won't have it anymore." Momo didn't want to destroy her russian doll, it was too precious to her, but she still wanted this one to become just as important as the one from her previous life.
"Wait, I got an idea?!" Momo's brain took only nanoseconds to come up with an idea around her problem, one that was very simple.
It's a russian doll. Meaning it also has smaller versions of itself tucked inside. She will take each doll out and instead destroying the whole collection, she will only destroy the smallest doll. This made her excited, happy even. 6:00 o'clock was reaching near so she had to find the cantrip the mysterious voice gave her.
Momo was a smart girl. Her parents made it their mission to teach her everything they know, how to study well and how to problem solve. This, along with her drive to become a better hero, helped her find the full cantrip in only minutes. The cantrip was sickening, the words and their meanings made her feel ill, but she told herself she would use her new powers to save people, even if it were similar to a villain's quirk.
After finding the cantrip, she placed the small doll on front of her, then kneeling down she clapped her hands twice then placed them infront of her, palms facing towards the doll and her thumbs pressed together. With everything ready she began to recite the cantrip.
"Oh Momo darling. It's time to wake up." A sing song voice came from her door, but Momo was too focused on reciting the cantrip to notice the person entering her room.
From the now open doorway of her bedroom was the maid that was scheduled to help wake Momo up and get her dressed. Her name was Rei Hana, a young lady with a petite body and fair skin, with warm orange coloured hair, short enough to reach her shoulder that curled at their ends. Her eyes were quite a spectacle too look at, as they were related to her quirk. When it is not activated, they were a vibrant blue, but when she activated her quirk, they turn into what can only be called as rainbow colour gems. Whenever she makes eye contact with someone while her quirk is activated, she can read any thoughts the target had in the last hour.
When she entered the room, expecting Momo to be in her bed sleeping, she instead was met with Momo kneeling on the floor, her hands extended in front of a russian doll, the smallest doll it seems.
"Oh my, Momo sweetheart. Why are you awake? Did you have a nightmare or something?" Miss Hana asked, ready to activate her quirk to see what kind of nightmare Momo had, but the girl didn't look her way, only focusing her eyes on her doll.
"Where Light shine, Darkness shall follow and cause its decline." Momo whispered, quiet enough for Miss Hana to not hear, but she saw Momo's lips moved, so she was questioning what the toddler was saying.
Then all of a sudden, a dark, purple aura enveloped Momo, but it seems Momo didn't notice the change that was happening around her. Miss Hana was surprised, happy to see Momo's quirk activating, but her happiness didn't last long when her body felt heavy. Looking at the aura, she could feel her heart race, her breathing increase, and a sudden wave of fear and dread washing over her. That aura, it was something dark, something horrible, but why was such a quirk coming from such a wonderful and kind girl.
"When Creation brings life. Destruction shall cause it to strife!" Momo continued to chant, now speaking loud enough for Miss Hana to hear.
When Momo finished chanting the second line, the power held inside her aura began to leak out, the aura dancing around her like a fire, causing gusts of winds to burst out from her and violent shaking that shook the entire building, which caused mass panic across the estate.
Miss Hana was thrown to the ground from the wind, her face terrified from the large amount of power coming from Momo. But it was also caused by looking into Momo's purple aura, now more dense and she couldn't move, terried she would be attacked by whatever power the aura holds.
"Give me the power to destroy who I see fit, so I can force the world to submit!" Momo yelled, her body began to change, her eyes turning from their onyx black to a violet purple, a bright glow emminating from them.
Her body also grew in size, her muscels increasing in mass, yet their size didn't grow as much, as her body was still of a toddler's.
Momo's increasing power cause the previously made tremurs and gust of winds to become even stronger, which made everyone inside the Yaoyorozu's estate to panic even more. Tanso was trying to keep everyone to stay calm, but his efforts were all in vein. With everyone being this histerical, he realised his daughter could be in danger, so once he found his wife; Kotto Yaoyorozu, they headed to Momo's bedroom.
"Grant me the power of true destruction!" Momo shouted again, changing her pose, pulling her hand to her head, clencthing it, and spreading her finger of her other hand, keeping her right arm stretched out.
Before Momo could finish the cantrip with the very word she was told by the angel, she watched the doll gain a purple aura, similar to her own, but less like a wild fire and more of a faint glow. But after watching the small spectical, Momo decided to finish the cantrip. Tensing all her muscels, gritting her teeth, and with her hair flowing unnaturally around her, like her hair was snakes, Momo yelled the words she would become accustomed to for the rest of her second life,
"HAKAI!!!" Momo shouted, and with that final word spoken, all the tremurs, all the gust of winds, even her intimidating aura ceased all together, turning the whole estate silent.
Momo and Miss Kana watched the doll, waiting to see what would happen to it. Kana was completely clueless, still reeling from the awful power she felt from the 2 year old child. Momo was expecting the doll to turn to dust, or break apart into millions of pieces, but what she saw was completely different.
From the top of the doll, a small purple ball of light, no bigger than a ladybug in physical size, but the glow it emminated made it look bigger than it actually was, peeled away from the doll, floating in the air and dissapearing. It was then followed by another ball of light, then another, then another, until dozens then hundreds of lights peeled away from the doll. Momo and Miss Hana could see the doll was dissapearing, each piece of it was being taken away by the light. This whole event of the doll being ripped apart only happened in mere seconds, as Momo watched the doll being ripped to pieces, presumably on the atomic level, until there was nothing left.
Momo couldn't believe it. This was her new power. The power of true destruction. It felt incredible. She couldn't help but look at herself, as she finally realised she had put on some muscle, feeling a lot more physically stronger because of the whole ordeal. But her more muscular physique didn't stop her from being a kid, so she began to cheer, jumping up and down on the spot, happy to have such a strong power.
"What is the meaning of this?!" Her cheers was quickly stopped when she turned to the source of the noise, her face paling when she saw the angry yet dissapointed face of her parents, her father being the one to shout.
Momo was frozen on the spot, the glare her parents gave her made her unable to move or speak. Even though she was happy before, she felt scared, small, and vulnarable. All she could do in this situation was to utter a quick sentence.
"Uh-oh."
[Location: Midoriya's Residence]
[Time: 6:01am]
While Momo was going to be scolded for nearly destroying everything, somewhere else in Japan, in the city of Musutafu, a young boy called Izuku was sleeping in his own All-Might themed bed.
Izuku was sound asleep, dreaming of something that, for someone who is able to vividly remember their dreams, was unique compared to his usual ones. Normally, he dreams of being a hero like All-Might, or being All-Might's sidekick or just having fun with whatever quirk his brain decided to be the focus of his dreams. But this dream, he was in a place where the ground was yellow clouds, having a pink sky and grassy hills with cherry blossum trees. Momo was there and some giant angel.
"HAKAI!!!"
"AAAAHHHHH!!!"
Izuku jumped awake, awoken by a sudden power that felt very powerful. Destructive even. When he was jolted awake, he was left in a cold sweat, his breath heavy, his eyes wide and his hand clutching at his chest, allowing him to feel his heart rate quicken.
Izuku didn't know what he felt, but when he looked around, nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary, except his baby hands. Before he could fully process why or how his hands were those of a toddler's, he was flooded with memories and events he hadn't had before. Memories of his friends, memories of All-Might, those of his fights, the war, and his death. All leading into the dream he just had.
Izuku, after the flood of memories stopped, realised everything. Why his hands, no his whole body was that of a 2 year olds, his strange dream and even more, that strange power that knocked him awake. It was Momo, it was her unlocking and using her new powers for the first time.
"You're quite a fast learner, aren't you Izuku?" A strange voice appeared in his head, which made him jump in fright.
"W...w...who's t...there?" Izuku asked, looking around his room, now on his toddler feet, fists held up to his face.
"Who I am is not important, as I already said this to Momo." The voice said, getting Izuku's attention.
"Momo? What did you do to her?!" Izuku demanded, treating this voice as a threat, and hearing this voice had communicated with Momo, plus her using her powers concerned the boy she was in danger.
"Calm down, I didn't do anything to her. I can guess you sensed Momo using her destruction powers, correct?" The voice asked, and Izuku nodded, still weary of the person behind the voice.
"Well, you see, I was the one who allowed her to do so." The voice proclaimed, then went on to tell Izuku what he told Momo about how he needs a cantrip to unlock and use his powers.
Izuku asked why the voice couldn't just tell him the cantrip, but the voice was already gone, leaving Izuku alone with his thoughts. Now with his mind racing at rapid speeds, he to calm down by focusing on something, which was to find the cantrip that was apparently deep in his mind. Momo was able to do it, so why couldn't he.
Izuku jumped off the bed, but forgetting he was now two years old again, he landed face first into the ground, making a loud thud sound, along with him groaning from the pain.
Once he picked himself up, he decided to sit on the ground and search through his mind, hoping to come across the cantrip as fast as Momo did, but not even a minute into his searching, his mother, Inko Midoriya, burst through the door of his bedroom, her face filled with worry and fear.
"Izuku baby! Are you alright, did you fall?! Are you hurt?! If yes, where?!" Inko saw her son on the ground and rushed to him, picking him up and checking him up and down.
Izuku couldn't help but smile seeing how his mother was worried for him, as it reminded him that she was just as protective and worried for him years ago as she was during the end of his first life.
Izuku was then about to reply, but realised he needed to be careful with how he speaks, because he was two, and having knowledge of the full Japanese language at the ripe age of two would be both suspicious and frightening, so he made sure to dumb down his response, so he wouldn't freak out his mother.
"Yes, mama, I am fine. I just fell." Izuku said, almost cringing at how simplified his words were.
"Are you sure baby? You aren't hurt or anything?" Inko asked again, still worried and Izuku just nodded, letting Inko sigh in relief.
"Is everything okay in here?" A deep male voice spoke from the doorway, gaining Izuku's attention, scared if someone broke in, but his mother didn't seem worried.
"Yes honey, everything is fine. Izuku just fell off the bed." Inko said, giving the person who stood in the doorway a smile, even if it wasn't visable due to how dark it was.
Izuku looked to see who this person was, but his facial features were obscured by the light from the hallway, which put the man's face in a dark shadow. That was until he walked closer, revealing his tired and relieved face to Izuku.
Izuku's eyes widen from recognising the man's face. It had a similar structure to his own, his face covered in freckles, yet his eyes were tired, like he worked for over 12 hours, his hair was just as messy as his, but instead of a forest green, it was a firery red. His eyes were a blazing yellow and he wore minimal clothing, only wearing a shirt and pajama trousers. It was his father, Hisashi Midoriya.
"Here honey, pass me Izuku. I'll tuck him back into bed. You can head back to bed and I'll join you shortly." Hisashi said, but Inko protested, saying she doesn't want to leave Izuku, still worried he is hurt somehow.
"Oh come on Inko, he looks fine. He doesn't look in pain, and I want to relief you so you don't have to stress too much." Hisashi tried to reason with his wife, which made her submit, passing Izuku to him and heading out, saying she'll be waiting.
Once the patriarchs were left alone, Hisashi took Izuku back to his bed and tucked him under his coveres, though his mind was on something Inko seemingly was more worried about than Izuku falling down.
"Seriously kid, did you have a nightmare or something? I sware I heard you screaming before." Hisashi asked, hoping the screaming he heard was all in his head.
Izuku didn't answer, his mind enthralled by his father's face. This was the first time seeing his father since he left to work in america in his first life. He didn't know why he did. All his mum told him about his father is that he did it so he could help provide both him and his mother a more stable life. He couldn't argue against that as his mother did allow him to buy a lot of All-Might merch, but he still felt awkward whenever his father was brought up in conversation.
"Hey, Izuku, are you okay?" His father asked, a little worried with Izuku just staring at him with his beedy toddler eyes.
Izuku realised his father asked him a question and, with the best imitation of a toddler again, said he was, saying he just had a nightmare.
"I'd see. We get nightmares from now and then, so it isn't something too serious." His father sighed, which is when Izuku saw his father's tired face more closely, seeing bags under his eyes, properly from stress at work or not getting enough sleep.
Hisashi ruffled his son's hair, telling his son both he and his mother will get some shut eye for a few more hours, then they'll make him some breakfast.
"How does pancakes sound. I don't think Inko will be able to make homemade ones, but I'm certain they'll be delicious." Hisashi said, a smile similar to Izuku's own smile plastered on the tired father's face.
Izuku never hated many people in his life. The ones who made it to his list of people he would never forgive for the things they have done are mostly villains he encountered like Chisiki for his crimes of experimenting on Eri, All for One for his 200 years long campaign to create a world of chaos and especially Shigiraki, who he hates the most for causing so much pain and destruction in his own life.
Would he put his dad in the list as those villains, obviously not. But he certainly would have his father somewhere he rather forget about, but seeing his father's smile, his appreciation for his mother's cooking and the effort he puts in that makes him look as tires as he looks, he can no longer hate or ignore his father. Maybe in this timeline, in this second life, he could convince his father to stay, even if it would mean his family would be less off, but he'd rather have his father than have all the All-Might merch in the world. All-Might was the father he didn't have and now he could have his actual father as the man he looked up to, to make proud and to have a relationship he needed for most of his first life.
"D...dad?" Izuku spoke, his voice quiet but his father was still able to hear him.
"What is it son?" Hisashi asked, curious with what his son wanted to say.
Izuku hesitated to ask his father to not leave him, to not leave his mother. He wanted his father to stay so they can be a family. He knew his father loved him in his last life when he was providing them, but if his father would leave again, he would be upset, upset he couldn't get to know his father more as the person who helped gave him life, but as the person who his mother loves, the man who provide for his family, the person he wanted to call his dad.
"I...I love you, dad." Izuku said, wanting to ask his father to stay, but was too hard to come out.
"Heh, love you too, my little broccoli." Hisashi said, ruffling his son's hair again and giving him that same smile that had the same effect his own smile had.
Hisashi stood up from the floor and walked to the door, turning back and saying he'll see Izuku in a few hours, then closing the door and leaving Izuku alone again.
Izuku knew his father was a good man and now he has this erge to unlock his powers and show his father he can help his parents as much as he can help him and his mother. When his drive to unlock his power came full force, he decided to continue looking through his mind to find the cantrip, to both unlock his new powers and how it worked, and to let Momo know he is with her, working as hard as she is.
